D400 2TB hard "drive" model has 2x1TB "drives"

Lenvo's order page for the 2TB model of the D400 says the "hard drive", singular, is 2TB and the sticker on the box says the "hard drive", singular, is 2TB, but the packing slip?  No, it confesses that it is really a pair of 1TB drives.  So what does Lenovo support have to say?  Well, I should have called to confirm that "hard drive", really meant just one, the order page doesn't really say "hard drive" even though it does; check out on the left side of the "customize and buy" page.
And what about the "up to 8TB"?  How am I supposed to make it up to 8TB with two slots filled with 1TB drives?  Oh, no problem, says the support person; just remove the 1TB drives and replace them with 2TB models.  What???  Why would I order the 2TB model just to yank out 2 of the drives???
And as for calling their support - it was the worst.  First, the number on the yellow sheet in the box for tech support, but no, an incorrectly configured system is "post sales" support, not tech support.  But the post sales person can't do anything without a case number, please call tech support.  Tech support here, what?  Let me forward your call to post sales.  Post sales here, what? Let me put you to tech support.  I talked to tech support 3 times and post sales 3 times.  What a runaround!  Finally, I got a "specialist" who offered to take the unit back for a 15% restocking fee!!!  As if their advertising and order page and the STICKER ON THE BOX didn't say HARD DRIVE 2TB!  How dare I actually want that!
Now I either get to pay a restocking fee on a spare 2TB hard drive that is my stupid fault for trusting Lenovo's product order or pay a restocking fee on all of it because Lenovo is hoping to I'd rather put up being scammed by them than pay the restocking.  I am going to return the thing anyway and I bet American Express will see things my way as I've taken a screen shot of their web page selling a 2TB "hard drive" and I took a picture of the sticker on the bax that says 2TB "hard drive" as proof against the packing slip that pulls a fast one.  Also I'm filing a complaint with the BBB and letting them deal with these jerks at Lenovo too because it's getting really bad for my blood pressure!

If you are replaceing only one drive then you will want to keep it the same as the other or replace both.
IMPORTANT: All disks within a single storage pool must meet the following requirements:
Same manufacturer
Same rotational speed
Same capacity
Mixed disk configurations may result in unpredictable device behavior and will not be supported. If you need technical assistance, please be prepared to backup your data and remove any unsupported drives or configurations.
Here is a list of approved drives in the newer ix2's however if you keep them 2TB or less you should be fine.

  • ITunes saying -  The song "XYZ" could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it? I have my songs all located on a 2TB hard drive and it still says it has 150GB on it but can't find them and they are there???

    Help!
Opened iTunes to play some music on the computer tonight and its coming up that the songs cannot be located for virtually all of my iTunes library??? I store my iTunes library on a 2TB hard drive and its always worked fine but I ran iBoostup software earlier today and its hasn't worked since then although I have to admit I haven't tried it for a week. It was a free app to clean up files on the apps store.
When I click on the 2TB hard drive under the iTunes link it still comes up 150GB is in the file but it just can't find the songs???
    Can anyone help?
    Cheers!

The links below illustrate how your iTunes should look if you use default settings in preferences.  If you don't use those settings then you have to know what you're doing.

The above links also illustrate the Media folder and its subfolders.  Look for a file in there in the logical structure by folder artist and album.  If you're lucky, linking one file will get an offer to link others and it iwll all come together again.
I see you are running OSX 10.5.8  it would help to know which version of iTunes you use now and which one you used before.

  • Quitting Disk Utility in middle of an operation erasing a 2TB hard drive

    Hello,
I have bought a 2TB external hard drive for backing up my files. I noticed when i plugged it in on my iMac that the files can be copied off the device but nothing can be altered and put on. So after a lot of research I heard that I should make a single pass erase on Disk Utility to reformat the hard drive to be used in both systems. So I did.
The problem is that I saw it would take about 10 hours for this to happen and it has been many hours more. I saw on some other sites that some people had problems where it took days. If I quit in the middle of a erase operation it warns me that quitting in the middle may render the drive non-operational. I don't want to lose it as I spent a considerable amount on it.
Shall I risk it and quit the process? If not, how long intuitively would it take for the 2TB hard drive to finish?
    Thanks!

    Hello azrael2010
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
A single or multiple pass erase +(writing 0's)+ is not necessary before reformatting a new drive, it is meant to write over and secure data from recovery.
To reformat a drive from NTSF to MS-DOS/FAT-32 all one needs to do is:
    1. Select the External HDs first icon in the Disk Utility list of drives
    2. Select the Partition tab
    3. Select the number of desired partitions under Volume Scheme:
    4. Select Options...
    5. Select Master Boot Record and click OK (+setting the Partition scheme)+
    6. Select MS-DOS (FAT) +(setting the format)+
    7. Select the Apply button +(which should quick erase and format the drive in a few minutes)+
    Also see > http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/partitioningtiger.html
Personally I have stopped a Secure Erase on many occasions and always opted for the quick erase when formatting a new drive from MS-DOS/FAT-32 to GUID Partition Table/Mac OS Extended and never had a problem...
Also note MS-DOS/FAT-32 has a single file size limitation of 4GB.

  • I have a Mac PC and bought a 2Tb hard drive to use by both my HP PC and my Apple PC by putting on my wifi network but I do not know how to do it? I thought I did but was very wrong.

I have a Macbook Pro laptop running MAC OS X 10.6.8, an WD external 2Tb hard drive, and an HP Laptop running Windows 7. I want to use the hard drive on my wi-fi network so that I can use the same file on either laptop? I thought I knew how to configure this but I was very wrong. Help?

    VLB3,
what ports are on the WD external disk?

  • Can my macbook 4, 1 handle a 2tb hard drive if it fits into the hard drive bay?

Can my macbook 4, 1 handle a 2tb hard drive if it fits into the hard drive bay?
Does the hard drive brand matter as lon as the har drive fits in the slot?
I want to put a 2tb hard drive in my macbook 4, 1 but I am not sure if the hard drive will work.
Can my computer handle that big of a hard drive?

"If it fits" will be the limiting factor. The largest capacity that I know of that will fit is 1.5 TB.
OWC sold this 1 TB 12.5 mm WD hard disk a while ago that allegedly fit your MacBook4,1 so it stands to reason you won't be limited to a 9.5 mm dimension. The only 2 TB drives that I know of are 15 mm thick and will definitely not fit your MacBook. If and when you can find a 2 TB HDD in the required form factor it will work.

  • Best 2TB hard drive for FCP???

I'm upconverting dozens of mini-DV tapes of old WWII footage and will need at least 2TB of storage.
What is the best, most reliable mac pro desktop internal hard drive I can get for storing video and editing with FCP7? Or should I get one of those external cases where you can house multiple drives?
I was initially thinking of going with Western Digital's Caviar Black 2TB or perhaps Seagate's 2TB Barracuda, but I noticed on Apple store a 2TB with 3GB/s serial ATA. But much more expensive of course ($549).
Thanks in advance for any advice,
    - Nick

I think you will need a fast firewire drive for an external hard drive.
You may look at istoragepro dock 2TB, they offer impressive speed and high capacity: http://www.macworld.com/reviews/product/412562/review/istorageproit1_dock2tb.html

  • Bought new iMac 20.5", jumped the gun purchasing a 2TB Hard Drive

Ok I bought this Hard Drive without really investing anything about the new iMacs. This is my fault. I bought a new Barracuda XT from Seagate. The performance on this Hard Drive is suppose to be pretty fast with a 6Gb/s & 64MB cache, how could I resist? From later reading on the web I found out that the temperature sensor is off the Hard Drive and depending on what drive is in your original computer. Well the computer is suppose to arrive tomorrow. Should I bravely tread and replace the hard drive? Do you think apple support would help me in this venture? Or should I call Seagate before I explore my new jewel of a computer? Any information would be greatly appreciated. My idea is in case I have a Western Digital Hard Drive that I could find out from someone who has a Seagate Hard Drive if they know the temperature terminals on the drive itself with a picture of how it is connected.
I will post my finding later in this thread with pictures, if I can figure that out.
    Thanks in advance.

you are going to crack open your brand new iMac (voiding the warrantee)
It's not an easy job to do. You can't just pop the back off to get at the drive. You need to remove the glass screen from the front with a pair of suction cups to get at the chassis. Then when you get the drive installed, you have to worry about getting everything back together just right. If you run into problems, you will need to pay to get it fixed. Also as stated, your warranty will be shot at that point.
If you want to create a speed demon, I suggest getting a Mac Pro and set up a RAID 0 configuration with 2 fast drives.

  • Use of 256GB SSD with 2TB hard drive

What is the best way to do this?  Everything just gets saved to the SSD.  How san I set it up to save things to the 2 TB hard drive automatically.  I think that I want Documents, iTunes files and iPhoto files on the 2 TB.  Need advice

What you do is move your Home folder to the HDD, then open Accounts (Snow Leopard) or Users & Groups (Lion), click on the lock icon to authenticate, select your admin account, CTRL- or RIGHT-click on your account and select Advanced Options from the contextual menu.
You will see a field labeled, "Home directory," that has a Choose button on the right. Click on that button and navigate to the Home folder on your HDD, select it, and click on the Open button. Click on the OK button and immediately restart the computer.
After the restart your computer will be using the Home folder on the HDD instead of the one on the SSD. You can now delete the contents of the Documents, Downloads, Movies, Music, Pictures, and Sites folders in the old Home folder on the SSD. This will free up that space.

  • 2tb hard drive is not working in HP Pavilion a6614f

Does anyone have similar issue when you add a secondary hard drive, and the Windows Vista (64-bits home) can only see 1.5TB?  I did partition, and still not able to format the rest 500GB.
I did SATA driver update from HP web site as well.  Please help if anyone has solution.
    Thanks.

Please see if this NVIDIA Windows Vista/Win7 64-bit Driver Chipset Driver helps. Select "NO" for installing the GPU driver unless you are still running the original driver.

  • Solid State Drive .vs. 2TB Hard Drive (Finder Sidebar)

    Hello all,
I just purchased a new 27-inch iMac, which comes with a 256 GB Solid State Drive and a 2 TB SATA Hard Drive.  Before purchasing the iMac, I had read that the Solid State Drive was designed to be used for the System and Applications, while the SATA Hard Drive would be used to store all application data files (Pictures, Movies, Music, etc.).
However, the Finder Sidebar icons (Documents, Pictures, Movies, Music, etc.) are linked to the associated folders on the Solid State Drive.  So when I click on any of the Sidebar icons, I am directed to the folder contens on the Solid State Drive.
How do I set up my iMac so that the 2 TB SATA drive is the default storage drive.  I'm guessing that there has to be a way to configure the Sidebar such that when I click on one of the icons (Documents), I'm directed to the Documents folder on the 2 TB Hard Drive and not the Solid State Drive.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

  • Airport time capsule (spring 2014-2TB)  hard drive is spinning but the LED is off and it will not connect to my MBA (mid 2013)

My airport time capsule 2TB accidentally got unplugged from the awl while in use. now you can hear and feel internal hard drive of my 2 TB spinning but all LED's won't turn on.  it will not connect to my 2013 MBA or be recognized my my iPhone 5 etc. when i plug it in airport utility senses something but will not connect. please help! my entire life is on this thing.
    trouble shooting thus far:
    unplugged APTC 2TB & MBA
    reset MBA
currently unplugged the Airport time capsule hoping to cool it off? ...

In this case the TC should be in bridge mode.
Win8 is still problematic. Try using ethernet instead of wireless. I think the drivers are poor still and it is well worth having a try via ethernet if you haven't already.
Otherwise you will need to wait for apple to release bonjour for windows 8 and airport utility.. which is not out yet.
Also make sure the windows is set to home, not work or public.. even turn off the firewall.
Open windows explorer and type the TC ip address into the address bar.. (none of which is perhaps the same.. I gave away windows at vista.. shudder)

  • Using airport extreme with WD 2tb hard drive

So I dont want to pay someone to do this so I hope someone can help me out here. I have an IMAC with two macbook pro's in my house. I use the airport extreme and just bought a Mybook for the mac WD 2 TB hard drive. I have attach the hard drive to my extreme and it seems that the backup thru time machine work find but I cannot see the back up on the hard drive at all and sometimes I cannot access the drive and also I get an error that tiem machine couldn't back up. The intial backup did work though.
Now I want to be able to take all my movies, music, pictures and files off my imac and macbook pro's and keep on the hard drive. I than would like to be able to access the files at anytime with any computer in the house and to also be able to stream my music and movies to my apple tv. Yes I know that I must have itunes running to stream my music and movies to my apple tv.
I am clueless on how to do this. I  bought the HDD to be able to free up the space on my IMAC and macbook pro's. I also would like to be able to manually tell the HDD when I want to backup the files and not on a time. So how can I do all this stuff. I have over 200gb of pictures and 200gb of movies and music that need to get off my computer onto the HDD soon before the wife get mad at me. We bought this to do this and we are goign crazy on how to do it.

I have attach the hard drive to my extreme and it seems that the backup thru time machine work find but I cannot see the back up on the hard drive at all and sometimes I cannot access the drive and also I get an error that tiem machine couldn't back up. The intial backup did work though.
Apple does not support Time Machine backups to a drive at the USB port of the AirPort Extreme. However, this does seem to work for some users while some users have some success and some have no success.
The bottom line is that this is not a reliable method to protect your important data, so if you want to continue to try this, it might be a good idea to have a secondary backup plan in place in case you cannot access your Time Machine backups when you need them most.
Now I want to be able to take all my movies, music, pictures and files off my imac and macbook pro's and keep on the hard drive.
If you do this, you are moving the "original" media libraries to the drive at the AirPort Extreme....and you will have no backups when...not if...the hard drive has a problem.
Surely, you plan to have backups of the media libraries, correct?  Where will the additional drive needed for the backups reside on your network?

  • USB Support For 2TB+ Hard Drives

Can anyone tell me if the T-61 supports (access the drives full capacity) multi-terabyte hard drives?
    Under XP?
    Win7?
I.e. 3 TB Sata drives in a USB 2.0 external enclosure..
    Thaniks in advance,
    C.

There are no (realistic) limitations as of now for how big an USB-drive can be, that I know of. I admit, I haven't tested anything larger than 2TB, but that works fine, single partition, no problems whatsoever.
The only "problem" being, of course, that the T61 only supports USB 2.0, which isn't really the quickest - unless you have a FW-port, of course.
EDIT: This is valid for Vista (and I assume Windows 7) - dunno about XP, but I have a feeling it might be a bit more picky...

  • I needed a 2tb hard drive for my new iMac whats the best to work with time machine for around £100

Any suggestions about the best 2 tb hard drive to work with my imac, compatible with time machine for around £100

There is no such thing as "best" and "inexpensive", you either want one or the other but you cannot get both. IMHO I'd recommend OWC's Mercury Elite Pro (www.macsales.com) however because  you are on the other side of the pond you may want to consider a Lacie product. High quality, not cheap but good stuff for the most part.

  • The default location for iTunes is the ssd drive? How can I run iTunes from my 2tb hard drive?

I have recently purchased an iMac 27 i7 ssd256 2tbhd. I can not find a way to run iTunes from my 2TB HD. Can someone walk me through it ?  I have tried youtube and google but nothing has worked so far.
I would like to sync my ipad and iphone to my new iMac.

I assume you mean to have your library on the external HD?
If so then you would go to iTunes -> Preferences -> Advanced -> "iTunes Media Folder Location" change it to somewhere on the external HD
Then after that do File -> Library -> Organize Library -> Check "Consolidate Files" and click Ok
