D70 NEF won't open in CS5

I just broke out my D70 I haven't used in forever to test it before I sell it, and my raw files will not open in CS5. I'm getting the "could not complete request because the file is from an unssupported camera" message.  I have already updated the camera raw plug in to 6.5, and attempted the dng converter. Nothing will work. I would really appreciate anyone's help!

Can you please email me the file so I can verify? [email protected] - Thanks!

D600 raw files only open in CS6/ACR7.3.  You need to upgrade your Photoshop.   http://www.adobe.com/photoshop/
An alternative is to use the free DNG Converter to convert your NEFs to DNGs and those will open in older ACR versions.  Another alternative is to get Lightroom 4.3.

Please do not post questions more than once. It makes it difficult for you as well as those who will try to answer. I don't have an answer for you. However:
    What operating system?
    What version of Lightroom?
    How much RAM?
    Did you install anything new?
What version of Camera Raw are using in Photoshop CS5?
If you can provide more details, it might make it easier for someone to provide you with an answer.

  • Raw files saved to jpeg via bridge but now some jpegs won't open in CS5

I saved Raw files to jpeg via bridge but now some of the jpegs won't open in CS5, they only open in bridge?  How do I get them to open up in photoshop instead?

I'm not quite sure of your workflow, but here's a couple of things to try:
    1. Make sure the folder to be batch processed contains only JPEGs.
    2. In Bridge, go to Camera Raw Preferences (not Bridge Preferences) and change JPEG and TIFF Handling to Disable JPEG support. This should ensure that all JPEGs open directly in Photoshop.

  • Flash CS4 file won't open in CS5

I have tried Adobe support with this but their response was as helpful as a hole in the head. I am hoping someone here might be able to help or seen this problem before.
I have a fla file which opens, save and compiles perfectly in Flash CS4 but when I open it in CS5 it crashes Flash with the below error report. I have tried this on multiple machines all resulting in the same error message.
I have also tried saving the file in CS4 under a new name, did a compact and save and a magic spell. Neither of which had any effect.
Any help or pointers would be appreciated.

PS: If anyone from Adobe is reading this... given you are charging a premium for Master Collection here in Australia I would have expected a little bit of help when your software doesn't work as expected. I am sorry, but that's just not good customer service.

  • .ai won't open in CS5

Yesterday i received a .ai file and when i tried to open it in CS5 it would not open and gave me the message "Can't open the illustration. Could not complete the requested operation." On a whim I decided to try it in CS3 on another computer and it opened fine and I resaved it as a .eps file and transferred it back to the machine with CS5 after which it opened fine.
I also had problems opening a PDF in Illustrator CS5 and it too opened fine in CS3.
For what it's worth I'm running CS5 on a Macbook Pro with OS 10.6.3 with 4GB of memory. Processor speed is a 2.66GHz Intel Core i7.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks.

The file did not appear to be a damaged email attachment as it opened fine on other machines in previous CS versions as I've clearly noted. I'm not sure what you mean by 'How was it stored?' nor even the relevance considering it can be opened by previous versions of Illustrator which leads me to believe, perhaps naively, that it's not damaged or corrupted.
I would think that knowing that other versions of Illustrator open it without issue and this one doesn't would constitute something rather nothing as you're suggesting.

This kind of crash at that location often means a bad font, or so I've been told.
This is actually an incredibly common failure, and it is much much more generic than bad fonts. It could be caused by bad fonts, but it could be caused by almost anything.
This indicaets a program has tried to defeference a pointer whose value is zero. That is, some function was passed a reference to some part of the program's memory (typically pointing to some data structure. It could be a number, a string, an TexttFrame, another function, a file, really anyting), and instead of that reference being an address, it was zero. And the function didn't check to see if thie address was valid, it just tried to read from address zero. Which, under many operating systems, including OSX, generates a trap and causes a crash.
So it's necessary to look at the stack trace to see what function generated the error. And that function was probably called be some other function by anothre function etc., and the fault is probably further upstream. If, e.g., the IDML export code calls the system's fprintf() function with a null pointer, the crash might be in fprintf(), but it would be the fault of the IDML export code.
Sometimes the faulting address might be more unique. Like if the pointer not zero but say, 3. There probably aren't too many cases where a pointer gets initialized to 3 by accident, so it might usually be the same thing. But address zero is incredibly common. (So are fun ones like 0xdeadbeef and 0xfafababe and 0xcafecafe).
Cheers. I wonder what happened with bizcomm...

  • Projects won't open, pp cs5.5 crashes

I have a new iMac (i5, 8 gb ram, 2 gb video card) and pp5.5, using avchd video footage. I create a project, works great...close the file and when I try to open the project again pp crashes. Every project I have created since I bought the computer and pp back in Feb of this year gets corrupted. I've reinstalled pp and have installed the latest OS update. Backups dont work either. Please someone help! I installed the trial of CS6 and all the projects that cause 5.5 to quit are opening so the files are not corrupt. I can't really afford to buy the upgrade and am nervous to fork out additional money for a program that has yet to work for me. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why 5.5 doesn't work?

I agree with Wil, try to import the project into an existing CS6 project.
    Maybe try reinstalling CS6?
I know you replaced CS5.5, but if you really get in a pickle, you can try to reinstall 5.5 and do the following:
Copy clips from timeline to a new timeline and save as new project.  Then try to open in CS6.
You could also try to export an XML from PP5.5 and open in CS6.
Maybe you've already thought of those ideas, but worth sayin i reckon...

  • Added new file but type still won't open in CS5

I would like CS5 to be able to open .m3u files as text files. I have added M3U into the Extensions.txt in my C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Applications Data\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS5\en_US\Configuration\Extensions.txt, and the C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS5\configuration\Extensions.txt files. I've also added it to the C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS5\configuration\DocumentTypes\MMDocumentTypes.xml file.  I have tried this two different ways: one by adding M3U as an addition TXT file, and the other as a completely new type.
In both cases, I can do File\Open and it lists my type (either Text Files (*.txt; *.m3u) or M3U Files (*.m3u)), but when I try to open a file with .m3u extension I get "Dreamweaver can't open .m3u files. Please choose an HTML, XML, or other compatible file."
Is there some other location I need to change this? Or is there somewhere to tell CS5 to open unrecgonized file types as text (the way Dreamweaver 8 used to work)?

    Robert,
I would like CS5 to be able to open .m3u files as text files.
You should never edit files in the *Application* Configuration folder (i.e.C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS5\configuration). You should only edit files in the *User* Configuration fodler (i.e. C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Applications Data\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS5\en_US\Configuration). The reason is that you can always delete your User Configuration folder to reset to your original installation files.
You said that you edited "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS5\configuration\DocumentTypes\MMDocumentTypes.xml" but you should have edited the one in your User Configuration folder instead. If it doesn't exist in the User Configuration folder, then copy it there first, then edit it. You should just need to add it to the winfileextension and/or macfileextension attribute(s) as a comma-separated value.
You'll need to shutdown and restart DW.
    HTH,
    Randy

  • Leica .raw won't open in CS5

Cannot open Leica .raw documents in Photoshop CS5, but CS2 would open them fine. Does anyone have any ideas? I don't want to have to open everything as .jpg!

The default install of CS5 would include ACR 6.0…
Just as a matter of interest, I got my copy of the CS5 Mac Upgrade DVD in the box direct from Adobe via FedEx today, Friday, April 6.  It's labeled just plain ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CS5, and it installed Ps 12.1 with ACR 6.0.3 right off the DVD.
Just needed to update ACR to 6.6 through the Adobe Auto Updater.
I had never bought a Ps release so late in the release cycle, and my previous experience had always been as Jeff Schewe indicates above.  The recent offer to get CS6 for free motivated me to get CS5 this week, a version I had otherwise fully intended to skip.

  • Indesign file won't open native CS5 file, gives me "missing plug-in or being used?

I've tried to open both a CS4 and CS5 file from another designer, and it gives me a message "InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file may be missing, or the file may be open in another application." (which it is not) I've downloaded the update, but still no luck. Any ideas?

Are you sure it's an InDesign file? How did you get the file?

  • The "Data Browser" window won't open in CS5

    Hello,
Choosing View->Data Browser from ExtendScript Toolkit CS5 doesn't make the window or panel visible. All of the others work except in my mind the most useful one. It works fine in the CS4 version on the same computer. I'm running Windows Vista 64 with latest updates to both the OS and to the CS5 Master Collection.
Please let me know if what I can do to get it to show up.
    Thanks,
    Yasin Linder

Sort of. As part of the next update we'll make Muse ignore the 125% scale setting. This will make it easier for you to use that setting with all your other applications, but even when your Display is set to scale 125% the Muse UI will be presented at 100%. Unfortunately the current transition architecture of Muse (part native 64-bit app and part Adobe AIR app internally) combined with how Windows 8 and 8.1 achieve 125% scaling means it will be quite some time before Muse will be able to correctly support 125% Display scaling. Sorry for the inconvenience.

  • HELP ps file won't open in CS5

this is a file that I have really worked a lot, with about 20 layers. Says There was a problem reading the layer data, read the composite data instead?
When I say yes, it says Could not complete your request becasuse the file is not compatible with this version of PS.
I tried opening in preview, bridge, update PS, no success.

Have you tried to use the open command in the application?

  • LR3 Won't Open Images in CS5!

    Hello!
I've been running both LR3 and CS5 for months and months, and now suddenly, when I go to "Edit in Photoshop CS5..." an image, it won't open in CS5! It always worked great before. Now, instead, CS5 does nothing, or throws up an open dialogue box of its own. What gives? And, sometimes, after trying to open images to edit them in CS5, I'll notice that CS5 now has, in its "Open Recent..." drop down menu under the File menu, some strange file names with an .ini suffix, or long strings of letters and numbers that mean nothing to me. I'm running Mac OS 10.5.8 Help! This is very strange!
    Tom

My issue is resolved! I simply updated LR from 3.4 to 3.5, and also updated to the latest CS5, and everything is working fine now. My problem does have one similarity to yours, though: I recently added an external hard drive, where my LR catalogs and images are now being stored. I don't know if adding the external hard drive caused LR3 (or CS5) to somehow lose track of where the image was that needed to be opened!
Anyway, all is working fine now, and I'm a happy camper.
