D7000 raw presets

Hello everyone, Long time reader first time poster.
I have a d7000 upgraded from a sony a350.
Any tips on how to get the best out of my Raw files.  Any change I seam to make just increases noise.  If I shoot JPEG and RAW (with the JPEG set to 7 on sharpening) I get the kind of image I want.
If I try and crank the sharpens up in Aperture 3 I just seam to get a lot of noise.
I want to shoot Raw I love the detail it gives but am really finding it hard to match the hardware to the software I have.
All of the other forums I visit say I need to buy more software Capture NX2, I downloaded the trial and its really, really slow and £60.00 more than I want to spend. I want to be able to use Aperture.
Any one help me ??

Lr. Bob.
Thanks for your reply.  Sorry I was not specific enough.
My workflow is :- Raw (Nikon NEF) + Fine Jpeg.  I use the fine JPEG as a guide to see if the RAW file is any good. (This is new to me coming from the A350).
The RAW files look really washed out.  THe RAW FINE TUNE setting in aperture are all set at 1 for Boost and Hue Boost. .5 for sharpening and .64 for edges. Morie is set to  .5 radius 4 and de-noise 0.5.
The RAW image looks washed out and flat (not sharp at all) the JPEG is pin sharp and bright.
If I use the edge sharpen tool I get a lot of noise coming through on the image (looks plastic).
I used to have a preset that I would import all my A350 Raw files to and they would all sharpen up nicely with limited noise.
I think I have exposure down o.k (in the histogram I have little highlights blown out)
Any suggestions would be gladly acepted.
Carl.

  • Opening nikon d7000 raw files in pse8

I have downloades camera raw 6 plug in but I am still getting the wrong file type error when I try to open my nikon d7000 raw files in elements 8.
    any suggestions??

You need to update to PSE9 as your camera model is not supported in earlier versions
N.B. If you are not wishing to upgrade to PSE9 - you can use the freely available DNG converter 6.3 and then use Elements to open and edit the DNG files. It’s recommended you keep your original raw files as back-up as they can always be read by your camera software.

  • Opening Nikon D7000 raw files in Elements 8

I am unable to open Nikon D7000 NEF files in Elements 8. I have been unsuccessfull in downloading the version 5.7 update from the web site. After downloading several times the files are still not recognized in Elements 8.

I am using Windows 7. I tried selecting the folder that contained the folder holding the pictures to be converted. I then single-clicked the folder holding the pictures and hit select. A message came up stating that the source folder did not contain any supported camera raw files.I have spoken with my Elements software supplier and this is his response:
"I've done some digging and it turns out the Nikon D7000 wasn't supported in elements until the release of version 6.4 Adobe Camera Reader. So to make sure you have the latest ACR update installed. You can check which one you have by going into elements and clicking Help>About Plug-In>Camera Raw. And if it's not 6.7 then Help>Updates will find it and let you install the latest version. You could also try saving your camera files as .RAW instead of .NEF, and then opening them in elements. Adobe lightroom 4 should already have these plugins available right outside the box, but if you can save the money and run updates instead that would work just fine." I have checked for Elements updates for the Camera Raw plug-in and the message appears stating no updates are available. The camer raw plug-in version is currently 6.1.0.250.

What operating system are you using?
The most common cause is pointing the dng converter to the actual files and not just to the folder that the camera raw files are in.
There is an example of how on a windows system in this thread:

  • Need help installing Camera Raw Presets from DVD

I got the NAPP Goodies DVD and I am attempting to install the Camera Raw Presets.  It says to put them into Library-Application Support-Adobe-CameraRaw-Settings...  When I get to CameraRaw the ONLY folder in there is CameraProfiles.  I have searched everywhere looking for a CameraRaw-Settings folder and cannot find one.  I updated CameraRaw and still no settings folder.  I even attempted to find it by looking in camera raw where it has saved the custom settings I made as presets and it shows that they are saved but will not show me where.  I am using CS3 specifically Photoshop and Bridge. I do not have Lightroom.
Do I need to reinstall Camera Raw and how do you do that? Will I then lose my presets that I made in CameraRaw?
    Thanks for your help

The correct location (on Mac–since you don't bother to spec your OS) is:
    User Name/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/Settings
All user level stuff will always be in the User folder. Root level stuff goes in the root level/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CameraRaw folder.

  • Can I convert a Camera Raw preset to a Lightroom preset?

I have number of presets in Camera Raw that I use in PS compositing. However, I'd like to use some of them in Lightroom now for my photography. Is there a way to convert them? The Camera Raw presets are saved in an .xmp file, while the Lightroom preset have a .lrpreset extension. They have similar information, but the formatting is a bit different (the .xmp looks more like an XML file). Any ideas?

Thanks David, that worked. I had been using Save Image in Camera Raw and didn't know why the .xmp sidecar wasn't being saved. I do wish there was a more automated way to do this, but my searches have come up empty. Lightroom puts a, presumably, unique ID at the beginning of each preset that the Camera Raw versions don't have, and who knows where it's generated from.

Hi Jeff.   I agree completely. I emailed her and she said someone else was having problems and this other persone figured it out on her own..with that being said..I know how to locate them(pc)..when I go into the file and then try to import it into raw that is when the box pops up saying raw conversion setting file invalid. I have searched and searched for what this means and amazingly I cannot find a thing. I appreciate the help. • D7000 raw files not seen in my iMac OS 10.7.5; Bridge and Photoshop CS4 Extended

Please help!!! I just bought a Nikon D7000 and my iMac OS 10.7.5 does not recognize it, I cannot see the D7000 on the Desktop, Bridge, Photoshop CS4 Extended, etc Please assist.

ACR 6.x only works with Photoshop CS5, not CS4.  The latest Camera Raw you can install into Photoshop CS4 is 5.7.
You have two choices, one free, one not:
    1.  Use the latest version of the free downloadable Adobe DNG converter to convert all your raw D7000 images to .DNG files each time you shoot, then open the .DNG files into Photoshop CS4, which it knows how to read with Camera Raw 5.x.
    2.  Upgrade to Photoshop CS6, which will give you maximum convenience and integration to be able to just open the D7000 raw .NEF files directly through Camera Raw.

  • How to open D7000 RAW file in elements 9

how to open D7000 Raw file in elements 9

    Barbara B.
Your suggestion to try another file resolved the Converter  issue.  I found that I can open any jpg or tif file in any album that appears in the
Windows Explorer.  So the problem was not with the RAW Converter.  Instead, I found another problem.  The ENTIRE Album
containing the file I had been trying to open  is missing from the Windows Explorer (and I cannot open the file from the Album
showing in the Organizer --  while I'm in the Editor!).
So -- can you give me any help with this new problem of an Album that shows in the Organizer but not the Windows Explorer?

  • Where are my Photoshop Raw presets stored?

I need to format my HDD and dont wanna lose all my raw presets, where do I find them physically, or how do I export all of them?
    THANK YOU!
P.S. In case you dont know which presets do I mean here's a screenshot:

That's right. In general, not only are the presets stored there, but
also camera-specific defaults, lens profiles, and color profiles
created by the user. It's a good folder to backup.

  • Nikon D7000 RAW not recognized-invalid file ?

I loaded Aperture 3 Upgrade Disc. Checked for updates-ran those.Loaded RAW Files- Not valid files.
I then ran Up Date 3.5 Plug in for D7000.Loaded RAW Files- Still not valid files.
I then ran Up Date 3.11.Loaded RAW Files- Still not valid files.
I then tried to run Up Date 3.0 Alert you must have 3.0 or Later.
What is going on here ?
I am a working pro and I am very disappointed what Aperture 3 is doing.
I have written positive articles about Aperture. Looks like I will now have egg on my face.
I need some response from Apple -now.

    Hi Frank,
I have a D7000 and experienced the same issue in the beginning with regards to unreadable RAW files, downloaded and patched the Update 3.5 (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1339) and everything now works fine... Sorry that I don't have a solution for you, but I just wanted to let you know that the patch does work and D7000 RAW files are fully readable by Aperture. If you are indeed all updated with regards to your system OS and Aperture, then I would try and directly contact Customer Support. Good luck.

  • Aperture 2 and Nikon D7000 RAW files. Do I need to upgrade to Aperture 3?

I currently have a Nikon D70 with a Nikon D7000 on its way. I want to know if Aperture 2 will process Nikon D7000 RAW files. I searched Apple support and these discussions. I only could find confirmation that Aperture 3 now handles it. But I have not found anything that confirms that Aperture 2 indeed did NOT get an update to handle the D7000 RAW files.
    Can someone confirm this?
    Thanks.

For future reference, all the cameras listed on the Aperture RAW Support web page that have the double asterisk "**" require Aperture 3.

I am unable to open Nikon D7000 raw files(NEF) using PSE 11
When I use the program's "Update "function I just get an error message.
    Can anyone advise?
