D7100 and Adobe Bridge

I have a new Nikon D7100 and shot in camera raw as I used to with my D3000.  I transferred the photos and they showed up in adobe bridge as usual, however,  I can't see any of the photos and received this message:
"Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw.
Please visit the Camera Raw help documentation for additional information."
I then updated everything by going to updates in Photoshop and Adobe Bridge.  It said that it updated everything successfully, but I still can't see my photos in adobe bridge even though I reuploaded them from the SD card.  I still get the same message.   AFter the updates, I went and checked my versions for your information.  They are as follows:
Photoshop is CS5 extended V.12.0.4; Adobe Bridge V 4.0.5.11 (this is after all the updates I just ran)
Can someone please help me?  I'm dying to see my new pictures!   Oh, and btw....I tried changing the camera settings to shooting in jpeg (fine) and they did upload to bridge and I can see them.  This only seems to be affecting raw files.

Preliminary support for CS5?  Even if that's so, eventually I will need to upgrade to CS6 if the camera is not supported in CS5 in the end.  As long as I don't have to cloud it, I'm fine.  LOL!   I love my apple cloud for music, documents, etc.  But I really don't want to pay a monthly cost for a program I already have.
Although I can imagine your feelings I would like to explain a bit of my thoughts about these issues.
As long as the Raw problem for new dSLR is going on (way back to the start of this millennium…) there has been a lot of strong opinions about it. Some correct, some not.
However beside there are enough points to criticize Adobe, when it comes to ACR policy there is not much to get angry about to my opinion
1- they have started the open format called DNG and everyone is free to to use its converter. So in theory you could use a brand new dSLR (in your case with a bit of extra patience) and download the latest free DNG converter that supports your raw format and use the converted DNG file in say ACR in PSCS 2. In other words, this get's you the option to use brand new digital format in almost pre historic software
2- They provide a free update for ACR with the newest dSLR every 3 to 4 months a year for their latest version of PS, sometimes when your lucky in between transition to new PS version they also update both ACR for latest PS and provide a final update for PS one version back.
Given the fact that it is a lot of work ( check also this site with the long list of supported camera's : http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html ) to get hold of every new camera and create the correct profiles for it to work in ACR it still is a free update for owners of the latest PS version.
If we put aside a lot of reasonable/unreasonable discussions about big companies making big money you honestly can't blame them for not putting that effort in their older software, everyone has to earn a living.
Photoshop is also a profesional set of tools with many, many options to get your work done. They do provide Adobe Elements (around $ 100) with a similar but not the same ACR option and also Adobe Lightroom (around $ 150) that has the same ACR engine in a slightly different interface.
Most dSLR that are being used for pro / semi pro and serious amateur use start at about 1000 to 1500 dollar and run to very high amounts (I recently bought the Canon 1Dx) so one would expect that a photographer serious about getting a very good dSLR should also be keen on the best options for software to get the most out of it.
Again personally I was not keen on the changing upgrade policy for Adobe to change the upgrade policy. First you where able to change to CS1 from PS 1, meaning once bought a version of PS you could upgrade always to the latest version no matter what prior version you owned.
Then around CS2 I believe they changed it to only upgrade from 3 version back (which for me is reasonable)
Last year they changed it to only one version back. Running a small business myself I always used PS upgrades (I skipped CS5.5 but that was more a luxury update) and I also did profit from more stability, speed and some options as well as ever improved ACR process. But for some it might be a bit to much with only 1 version update.
On the other hand an update for PS was not all that much money, compared to complete Suite Updates PS was already an exception with same upgrade price for 3 versions, most Suites had different (higher) pricing for older versions.
And now we have the Creative Cloud. Whether we like it or not, it seems Adobe is heading to this direction and already 500.000 subscribers have joined permanent:
http://blogs.adobe.com/jnack/2013/03/half-a-million-people-now-subscribing-to-creative-clo ud.html
And it also seems not only a new profit model has been at the base of this, also the ever increasing market of software piracy was a big reason to change to this new way of working.
Again personally I'm still a bit ambivalent about the CC depending on future planning for it. But currently I have a subscription to the CC (the first year offer was unbelievable low priced) and have access to the latest versions of almost all Adobe products for 35 dollar a month and when continuing for only 50 dollar a month.
I say 'only' knowing that not everyone will be agreeing with this but for me having predictable monthly cost and access to the complete Master Collection (including LightRoom, Premiere Pro, InDesign and Illustrator). I primarily use PS and Bridge but have some need for ID and Illustrator. By far not enough to buy a whole Suite or the individual application so for me this is a perfect solution to have access for a fair price.
There seems to be a route (search for educational) to subscribe to only PS in the CC and that seems around 20 dollar a month. I know the idea of hire software is a bit strange but according to the legal agreements we all click on for granted upon install also state you do not own the software your self but bought the right to use it
And to end this very long story, be aware that once CS7 is available on the market you loose your right to upgrade from CS5 and need to buy a full version, and as for CS6, the new 2012 ACR process that came with CS6 is worth alone the upgrade price to my opinion

When you re-installed Photoshop, you also re-installed the version of Camera Raw which shipped with Photoshop - in other words you reverted to an older version of Camera Raw which does not support the D5100.

I just installed adobe creative cloud and Adobe Bridge. When I try to open a image in camera raw I get an error "Bridges parent application is not active" "Bridge requires that a qualifying product has been launched atleast once to enable this feature"

Have you opened Photoshop? (I think that is a "parent" application)

You can't. Any version before Creative Cloud does not support high-DPI displays and that is just that. If you cannot adjust the system's screen resolution and so on, then there is nothing you can do.

  • Audio won't play in Premiere, but plays in QT, FCP, and Adobe Bridge.

    Hi everyone,
I'm normally pretty good at troubleshooting, but this audio issue has me scratching my head.  A cameraman had DVCPro tapes transferred to QT movies.  All the clips playback fine if opened with QT, FCP, and Adobe Bridge.  Import these clips into Premiere and there's no audio.  Nothing shows up on waveform- there's nothing there.
I would switch to FCP, but I already started the project in Premiere (CS 5.5) with earlier footage- which were mxf files right off the P2 card.  That works fantastic.  The footage I'm having an issue with was footage that was just shot recently on DVCPro tapes- so switching to FCP isn't the most time efficient.  But I'll do it if I have to.
What confuses me the most is that the clips play back fine in Adobe Bridge, so I don't think it's a codec issue.
Thanks in advance for any help or advice getting to the bottom of this.
    Erik

I had a similar problem, I'll tell you how I solved it.  Understand that I am a newbie at video editing and Premiere Pro.  I shot videos on a DSLR (.mov) and then transferred them to my computer.  I then imported them into Premiere CS6.  The videos played fine, and the sound bars indicated that audio was playing, but there was no sound.  The clips I imported played fine in Windows Media Player.  I did everything suggested on the forums, but to no avail.  Then I thought of something no one else had suggested, and it worked!
I ordered my Rain Stratus computer already set up with Premiere CS6 installed.  When I opened a new project, it by default chose Black Magic Design presets, since that is the video card I have.  Being a newbie, I just went with that.  But since the video I was importing was not captured by my Black Magic video card, it was the wrong choice.  It took awhile to figure out, but I finally realized I needed to choose Digital SLR as the sequence preset when I created a new project.  Then the audio worked!
One more thing I had to do, though, before it worked: in PremierePro, go to Edit/Preferences/Audio Hardware.  I had to change the hardware from Black Magic Audio to Premiere Pro WDM Sound, click ASIO settings, choose my speakers, and then check the box marked "device 32-bit playback" (even thought I have a 64-bit computer.)
I hope that helps someone else from going through the same frustration.

  • IPhoto with Adobe Photoshop Elements 4 and Adobe Bridge

I have not used iPhoto before now as I have been downloading photos from my Canon and Nikon cameras using their software. I have now moved everything into iPhoto but cannot find iPhoto using Adobe Bridge so I am unable to do any editing using Elements 4. Previously I could find the Canon and Nikon photos using Adobe Bridge. With a simple click on the relevant photo it opened up in Adobe Photoshop Elements 4 and I was able to edit it. Now using Bridge I simply cannot find iPhoto thus I cannot use PSE4. Can someone help before I go crazy ? I havde called Apple support but they have been unable to help me and suggested using Discussions@Apple

Many thanks for your quick response although, as a new iMac user, the mere mention of the word "corrupt" scares me ! I previously used a PC with Windows XP and PSE3 and loved being able to sort all my photos into albums with PSE3. Unfortunately the PSE4 which I have installed on my iMac doesn't let users sort their photos into albums and the only alternative is Adobe Bridge. I only recently started to use iPhoto after a visit to an Apple Store and it's great being able to catalog my photos so easily. Unfortunately PSE is far and away superior to any editing software that iPhoto has to offer. Anyway, I'll cross my fingers and try your suggestion first thing tomorrow morning.

  • Elements 8.0 and Adobe Bridge CS4 problem

I have two problems that appeared in Elemens 8.0 and Adobe Brigde CS4 recently.  I'm using the Mac version and a Macbook Pro (4 months old).
I don't really know where to address the problem, but I hope someone in this forum would be able to advice me.
    Problem 1
When I browse a RAW-file in Bridge and click the photo to view a 100% zoom and then go back to a normal view, after a few seconds the photo turns alot darker.  I've got alot of macro photos of flower and they really loose structure in this process and I would say they get damaged.
On the attached file the left photo is the photo I've viewed and closed and the right one is the original file.  Does anyone have an explanation to this problem?  I do like to review my files and do a 100% zoom before I choose the best one, but this is not possible in Bridge due to this problem.
    Problem 2
After postprocessing my photos in Elements some of them cannot be viewed through Brigde anymore, they get sort of unclear and some show pixels.  If I use Finder or other programmes to view the files they look perfectly allright. See examples below, the left one is a screendump from Bridge and the second one is the processed file.

I think this solved the problem, at least some of it.
I deleted the bridge plist file and also ran an update of Bridge CS4.  I wasn't sure how to update ACR in bridge, so I didn't do that.
But when I start Bridge now, only some of the files changes color slightly in the thumbnails view.  The zoom (loading 100%) also looks different, it zoomed to 800% earlier even though it said 100%, it sort of never ended.
Thank you Barbara, I'm ever so grateful.  Now I know where to go if I have more problems

  • HPX-370 P2 Metadata Support and Adobe Bridge

I'm having some trouble getting Adobe Bridge to write metadata to files generated with a Panasonic HPX-370 P2 camera.
The company I work for recently requested that I come up with a digital asset management plan for new video. Let me preface this by saying, I'm a shooter/editor, not a data manager.  Since we were already buying the HPX370, all my research pointed to Adobe Bridge being a perfect solution for adding metadata in the form of keywords to our videos to make our video database searchable.
Now that the camera is in-hand, I have been unable to alter the metadata through Adobe Bridge.  Here is my issue.  Every time I go to add a keyword or change the metadata on one of the mxf video files within bridge, the stock response is: The file "filename" cannot store XMP metadata.  No changes will occur.
I thought this would be fairly easy to find a fix to, but not a ton out on the net about this specific problem.  What am I doing wrong here?
If this can't be fixed easily on my end, could it be an added feature?  How do you request a feature addition?

A view problems here, first of all not many regulars (me amongst them) are very familiar with movie files.
Bridge does not seem to support MFX files in the Bridge preferences File type associations.
And in general, not all file types are able to write XMP data (keywords, IPTC etc) to, some just don't accept it.
Another possibility seems that you don't have read and write permissions to the files, folders or disk the files are on. The files also might been locked (but then they should show a small lock icon above the thumb.
    Also try this page:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/premierepro/cs/using/WSE2397406-3FEB-43df-868D-68EB20BBC021.ht ml#WSCEE5677A-075C-40bb-99D9-D8EE08FC68B4
and maybe even better, drop this question in the dedicated Premiere Pro forum:
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere
And while Bridge is a perfect application for the workflow needed for pre process and process it really is not all that good in dedicated DAM functions, maybe you also try to look at third party applications that can handle movie files better then Bridge can.

  • Keywords iphoto 6 and adobe bridge

So I've used adobe bridge to tag a bunch of photos. I then imported these photos into iphoto 6. For some reason a bunch of my keywords weren't imported with the images into iphoto. How can I get the keywords I used in bridge to show up in iphoto?

I don't know about any syncing in Bridge. I tagged all the photos in question at the same time, but for some reason iPhoto choses which keywords it wants to apply to the images. When I check my keywords in iPhoto all of the ones I created in Bridge are there--if they are checked when I select info on a certain image, well that's another story.

  • IPhoto and Adobe Bridge Workflow

I finally picked up Photoshop CS3 and am curious as to the best method of integrating the applications in the most effective manner.
I do like iPhoto, and I've used it extensively for some time now, but I wonder if it's better suited as simply a program to show and share my completed photos.
Would it be best to use Bridge to organize and work with the photos directly out of my camera (including RAW files) and then merely use iPhoto as the last means of displaying them?
It should be noted that the only Adobe application I use is Photoshop, so there is no need for thorough integration with other Adobe products.
I suppose I'm curious as to how people might make use of Photoshop, Bridge and iPhoto in the most useful way possible.
    Thanks in advance.

Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Can I upgrade my Photoshop CS to CS5 and adobe bridge?

I have an old photoshop cs version and want to upgrade to cs5 and bridge, how do I do this?

You are long beyond any upgrade eligibility. The last time a CS licenses was good for anything was when CS3 came out. Your only option would be to buy a completely new license of CS6 or join Creative Cloud, since Adobe only sells current versions.
