D7460 Photosmart cuts off borders on 4x6 paper in tray

Photosmart D7460 with 4x6 paper tray.  Windows Vista.  Printing from the Microsoft Photo Gallery.
Have tried phone support and live chat to no avail.
This printer comes with a 4x6 paper tray and when I print to it, all photos are cut off at the borders so most heads look flat.  Have found no solution except to use 8.5x11 paper and print two 4x6 photos and then cut them out.
Can anyone help with proper settings specifics or is this not possible?  'would like to know that also.
Thanks

Hi there,
Unfortunately, the printer doesn't know exactly where the page is.  That is, it doesn't knwo the exact position and skew of the page, so overspray is necessary to create a borderless image.  You can print images with borders, or you can get some chopping of the image.  Add to that, the aspect ratio of the original picture and the paper may not even be the same.  For example, a 4x6 is not the same aspect ratio as 5x7, and neither of these are the same as an 8x10.
I think (can't verify right now) that if you print your pictures from the front pane, you can actually control where the cropping occurs, so you don't end up with tops of heads being removed.
Again, apologies, but I hope this helps somewhat.

  • Hp printer cuts off right side of paper

    Hello,
I am new to this but I have a problem that needs to be answered pretty quickly please, when I try to print out an email the right side of the email gets cut off, I checked the printer setting and even the preferences but everything is alright, nothing wrong there, but every time I print I happens. Also when I go to print out a picture the picture turns out yellow, please I tried everything I could think of.
    This question was solved.

Hi - Can you provide the model of printer you're using?  That will help determine what steps to take to troubleshoot.  Typically though, when the print out is being clipped or cut off, it has to do with a paper size mismatch between the printer driver software and the settings in the software you're using (i.e. MS Word).  Make sure that the paper size settings in the sw (typically under page setup) match those of the printer (typically under printer setup).
As for the color issue, the first step will be to run a self test page on the printer to determine whether it is an issue with the ink cartridges.  How to run the test page from the printer is dependant on the printer model.
    Hope that helps.

  • Photosmart C310a - photo print cut off

I print 4x6 borderless pics from PC to the printer in the highest resoltion. The preview screen
always cuts off some of the edges when in borderless mode, but none when previewing with border.
Is there a way to directly fit the photo to the size of the photo paper without leaving out any part of the pic?

The edges of your image will be cut off by a printer that can’t print all the way to the edges of the paper. In order to prevent this, go to the Image Size menu again and decrease the height by 1 inch (thus also reducing the width). When printed, the image will be centered on the paper. You can also choose “Scale to Fit Media” In Page Setup.

Running on OSx 10.6.8 using a new HP Officejet 6000 printer. How can I get to within 1/8" on all sides of an 8.5x11 sheet of paper. Images and copy cuts off at 5/8" at bottom. HP says it's a mac problem, not an HP problem. I tried every combination of print settings. Nothing has solved the problem. Have I missed something?

Yes you are unfortunately you as the consumer are caught in the middle. I totally disagree with what HP told you, they supply the print drivers to Apple, Apple doesn't write printer drivers that I know of. Look in the print settings to see if you can go below 5/8", I know I can with my HP printers (Laserjet 1012, Color Laserjet 2600N, OfficeJet 7410 & OfficeJet 7700 series) so I'm sure the issue is specific to the OJ6000 series.

Hello there, Welcome to the Forums! I hope you enjoy your experience
I noticed your post about the printing problems you are having and would like to offer you my suggestion. First of all, print using a different program to see if the issue is only within one program. If you see the issue happening no matter where you print from, run the HP Print and Scan Doctor if you're running a Windows OS.
Also, try a copy to see if there are cut offs with them as well!
Please let me know what happened and include your OS and programs you have tried printing from.

This is a new printer for me.  It is connected to my laptop with a USB cord.  I am attempting to print an e-mailed PDF document .  When I preview, I see that the right-hand side of the document is cut off  by more than an inch.  How do I get the printer to format the document to fit on letter-sized paper? • When I print a selected area of web page, it doesn't fit to the paper. The end of each page are cut off. Is there any solution?

When I print a selected area of web page, it doesn't fit to the paper. The end of each page are cut off.
I'm very sure my printer is set cirrectly.
Can't Firefox shrink to fit when I want to print a selected area of web pages?
This has never occurred in IE.

File >Page Setup -- check your margins, I have set size to 85% which is probably left over from some problem. Also check your printer that it is correctly set to the size of the paper.

  • Adobe 9.0 - Recognizing Paper Size - Scans cut off early B4 end of PG

    Hello,
I am having a problem with Adobe standard 9.0.
We use adobe to scan various important documents.
We have several preset scanning profiles.   One is color and one is black and white, no other settings should be different.
When we scan with the B&W a 8x14 document will get cut off early, for example just after a signature.  The resulting scan is neither 8x11 or 8x14 it just seems to be cut off early at a random point.  We have tried reseting the preset to default without luck.
When we scan with color.....  and the same document that contains no color.....   No problem.
We do not have this problem with another scan program (Kofax).
    What is going on?   Updates?
Please help & Thank you for your assistance!
    Tony H.

Actually, a quick test today shows neither color nor BW would scan the page to the correct size.
    Please help,
    Tony.

  • Printing cuts off top of heads

I use PSE4 on a WIN XP with all updates. I have a photo (originally 5x7) that I resized to 4x6. WHen I try printing it on my HP PHOTOSMART 7960 on 4x6 HP photo paper with tab the printer always cuts off the top of one head. I have tried sizing down the picture to 3.95 inches and then printing on 4x6 paper. I have tried everything else I can think of and it ALWAYS cuts off the top of their heads. WHen I print the photo with a different photo software the print comes out O.K.
What Am I not selecting, etc. to print the photo as what-you-see-is-is-what-you-get in PSE4?

I'm beginning to suspect the aspect ratio of this image isn't correct. Do this experiment and see what happens:
First, make a copy of the image file you're working on so you don't experiment on an original.
Have the copy open on your desktop (in Editor), then go to Image>Resize>Image Size. Make sure there is no checkmark next to Resample, and then start increasing (or decreasing) just the number in the resolution box until the dimensions of the image are just slightly over 4 X 6. Make sure it is 4.something by 6.something, though. Once you get to that point, click OK and accept the change.
With the resized image open on your desktop, select the Rectangular Marquee tool. Once you've selected it, choose "Fixed Size" in the tool's option bar and set the dimensions to 4 X 6. Use the tool and select a perfect 4 X 6 portion of the image, then do Image>Crop. Now try printing.
Most cameras do not produce an image file that can be reduced to a perfect sized print, so a little bit of cropping is usually required. I know that the images from my camera wind up coming closest to 6 X 4.5, so I always have to take off at least 1/2 inch on that dimension that has to be 4 inches.
I don't promise this will work, but I did notice that you said you did no cropping, and that could be the reason why you're not getting the print size you want.

  • Bottom half of text cut off

My printer: Photosmart C6280 All-in-one. The printer connects to my wireless router via Ethernet cable. Two computers use this printer on a wireless home network. The problem has occurred with both computers. Both computers (an HP desktop and a Gateway laptop) run Windows Vista Home Premium. The problem I describe occurs when printing text from Microsoft Word 2007.
From time to time, the last line of text in a document or a label comes out with the lower half of the entire bottom line cut off. The odd thing is that sometimes (but not always), I can resend the print job and get good results. For example, on one occasion after encountering this problem two consecutive times with a particular document, I re-sent the print job and used the back side of a used sheet. It printed correctly, so I put a new sheet of paper into the tray and tried a fourth time. This time, I got the same unacceptable result! Tried a fifth time and got a good print.
One important point: The problem has never once occurred when I print photos. The problem seems to occur only when printing text.

We were also having this problem but after researching around on the net and finding some other people with the same issue, we found the following fix worked (based on a Windows 7/Vista Machine):
Click Start > Devices and Printers
Right click 'HP Photosmart C7200 series' and click Printer Properties
    Click the Ports tab
    Uncheck Enable Bidirectional Support
For XP users, you can get to the same thing by finding your printer in the "Printers" area of Control Panel. Following this, opening the properties for your printer from there either by right clicking directly on the printer, or by double clicking the printer and then in that window selecting Printer > Properties.
We found that the above worked for us so I hope it works for some of you too.

  • Top of image cut off when printed

I used Aperture to print a borderless 4x6 on borderless paper. In the print preview, the entire image was there (a close-up of Detroit Tiger Verlander with his hat on). Then I printed and the top 10-20% of his hat was cut off.
But then I ordered an online print through Aperture of the same photo just as I set up to print from my printer. The print was sent to me without being clipped at the top.
Anyone know why this clipping happens when I print the picture? I quadruple checked all the settings.

You may want to check on the printer driver and paper size selected

  • Not able to print to custom 4x6 paper size with Pages 5

I'm having a lot of trouble printing to a custom 4" x 6" paper size with pages 5.  I create my custom size, switch the page setup to use that size in landscape orientation, and everything looks fine.  Then when I go to print the document the destination paper size is set to "Suggested Paper: US Letter" instead of "Custom" as it used to be.  If I do print on US Letter paper then its properly lined up at the top left corner, but if I print on 4x6 it is all cut off.  I've tried scaling it to fit on my 4x6 size in the destination paper size menu, but that just shrinks the whole thing to fit in the center of the 4x6 in portrait orientation.
I am able to do this fine in pages '09, however I've already converted over 40 recipe cards to work with pages 5 and they don't export back to pages '09 properly.
If anyone has any suggestions on how to get this to work I would really appreciate them!
