D7560 misreports ink level

The "Print Quality Report" shows that the Yellow cartridge is empty.  However, I can see through the window that there's still plenty of ink left.
Why is there a disparity between the report and what the state of the cartridge really is?

Answering my own question.
The printer needed some serious cleaning, especially concerning the ink well area to the right where it does its housekeeping.  This area was so saturated with dried, sticky ink that I doubt the routine maintenance such as moving ink thru the ports to keep them from drying closed was doing anything.  I also cleaned the print head.
On cleaning the ink well - it's not the easiest thing to get in there.  I didn't spend the time figuring out how to remove the outer shell.  There's a small rectangular black plastic well that seems to be there for collecting the ink that gets spent doing its self maintenance.
Two things to look out for with this ink well.
(1) There's a thin spongy filter that sits at the top and is held in place by tension.  Take a pair of tweezers and fish it out.  Wash it and let it dry while you're doing the rest.
(2)  There's a rather fragile frame/collar that lightly snaps against this well from the left.  You can see the hole in the collar piece and the matching notch on the well.  While you're cleaning all the gunk off, this will separate from the well, and I'm pretty sure it's there for the spongy filter.  Treat it gently and replace at the end since the printer probably won't work without it in place.
I cleaned out the ink well with lots of Q-Tips, thin rags, paper towels, and a household cleaner made for cutting thru grease.  What a mess.  But it makes sense that this needs to be done because there's obviously a limit to how much ink can be squirted thru the print heads into this area.  Perhaps HP simply expects its customers to either (a) junk the printer when the ashtrays get full or (b) pay more than the original cost of the printer to have it serviced.  Clearly, HP should design their printers so that this cleaning can be done by the owner.
Also, the print head and the area that contacts with it needed cleaning.  Google this and you'll find some good suggestions on the specific techniques.  The goal is to get all the dried ink cleaned away without damaging the contacts.
Once I had this all cleaned (and you won't get everything without a complete disassembly) and put back together, the printer now doesn't spend tons of time doing its prep before printing.  I surmise that this is because it can do it successfully now that all that globbed up ink has been removed instead of repeatedly trying and failing.
Finally, to solve this specific problem with the Yellow cartridge, I lightly moistened the corner of a rag and pressed it against where the ink comes out.  Because of all the globbed up ink in the well, I imagine the printer wasn't able to keep this cartridge flowing correctly and it dried closed.  Between priming the cartridge with a little moisture and cleaning the printer, all is well now.

    Hi @HnnhSmth95,
I see by your post that you are unable to view the ink levels by a USB connection. I can help you with this, but I will need some more information.

  • Wireless All-in One receives scan and ink level but does not print

My wireless printer was working fine, now it can scan and send scan to my computer, my computer receives ink levels in the utility. Now it will not print from Word or other programs that I was able to print. When I restart the computer with a document  in the printer queue, when it gets to my desktop screen, it prints. But still will not print from Word unless I do the restart again. I have restarted the printer(which works with other computers in the house) and even deleted and reloaded the HP program. My computer receives but does not print. I even tried direct usb connection

  • HP 6500A - Can't get into printer "control panel software" to check ink level, etc.

First let me apologize... I don't know what the correct name is for the software that starts up when you use the printer icon that was installed on my computer's desktop when I installed the printer.  I am calling it the "control panel software" for want of a better name.
My printer was setup to work wirelessly on my wireless network and was working fine.  The "control panel software" worked fine when I click on the icon on my desktop and I was able to check the ink levels, etc.
I just got a new router and so I had to reconfigure my printer to use my new wireless network settings.  It wasn't working properly, so I decided to uninstall and reinstall the HP software for the printer.  As part of this it put a new icon on my computer's desktop for accessing the printer "control panel software", another new icon for the scan function, and another for the ePrint Service.
The printer works fine... I can print and scan properly.  It successfully connected to my new wireless network and I thought all was well.  However, this is not the case.
What is weird is that the "control panel software" icon doesn't take me to the control panel functions any more.  When I click on it it takes me back through the process of setting up the printer connection (wireless, wired, USB) again.  If I go through that again it tells me everything is installed and lets me set the default printer again and then asks me to register again.  So... I think I'm done, but then if I click on the icon again, it goes through this same process again.
Is there any way to stop this endless connection setup and just get to the "control panel software"?
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Bill

What operating system?  I recommend not using the software CD as it may be out of date.  Get the latest software for your printer from the "Support & Drivers" link at the top of this page.

  • Wireless printer offline/ink levels

Whenever I try to print to my printer wirelessly the printer always is offline. It is shown as the default printer but offline. I can print to it via USB.
I recently reinstalled the software  and it worked ok (online).  When I next go to print the printer is offline again. Done this twice so far.  Apart from reinstalling the softwareevery time  is there any thing else I can do or do I just use a usb cable?
I am using a HP desktop computer and two ASUS laptops, and the blue wireless light on the printer is glowing steadily. It is offline to all computers. I have run the HP print and scan doctor a couple of times but it still remains offline
Is there any method/program to view the ink levels of the printer? I could not find any on the installation CD.
    Any help would be appreciated,
    John

Wow, I am overwhelmed by the number of responses received to my question. By reading these forums it seems trying to connect HP printers wirelessly is fraught with problems.
As for knowing the ink levels, I do not get any onscreen messages saying the ink is low or has run out, the control panel on the printer reports an ink catridge as half full when it is actually empty. The only way I know an ink cartridge is empty is when a colour stops printing.
I can not use the printer's copy or scan functions unless the computer is turned on and aconnection has been established by a usb cable. I am sick of having to update the printers IP address if I have to restart my modem because the 'Updat IP address' software does not work, and the HP printer diagnostic software, when run reports that the software for the wireless setup is incomplete, and gives me the option of downloading the needed software but the download always fails to complete.
Well lesson learnt, time to dump the HP printer and purchase a more up to date printer that will connect by wireless and has basic functions such as a way to determine ink levels. Epsom printers seem to be capable of these functions and have a good reputation.
    So good bye HP.

  • To check ink levels I am told to print self test. page from cpu or printer.

There is no way to print a test page on my" psc 2410 all in one" connected to a HP cpu with Win 7, 64 bit. Is there a workaround/

The page here shows how to print a self-test report from the front panel, but it does not appear to have ink level information.  I have not used a PSC 2410 for years, but the following may give you what you need:  press the # and * buttons together on the printer.  The screen will say "Enter special key combination".  Press 1 2 3.  This should bring up a service menu.  Use the right arrow button repeatedly to bring up a "Special Reports" screen, OK, then right arrow to select "Cartridges" or some similar, then press OK. A page will print with ink level information shown about the middle of the page.

  • Can you see ink levels from Eprint center for the OfficeJet 7500A/E910

Can You monitor ink levels from eprint center for the OfficeJet 7500A/E910?

    Hello Raimonds,
To answer your question, you are not able to check your ink levels from ePrint Center. The only thing that you can do in ePrint Center is monitor the status of your recent print jobs that you send via ePrint and monitor the status of connection of your printer to the ePrint Servers.

  • PSC 1210 Mac OS 10.6 Scan multiple pages into one pdf., and ink levels

Now that I upgraded my Mac OS to Snow Leopard (10.6.8), I have needed to scan on my HP all-in-one psc 1210 either from Preview or from Scan & Fax in System Preferences. Once I scan a page and that page opens up, I AM able to scan additional pages, but each becomes a separate document. The only system driver available from HP is print only and also doesn't include a utility to check ink levels. Can someone help me with these two issues? (1) how to scan multiple pages into a single pdf. doc with my configuration, and (2) how can I check ink levels
    This question was solved.

    Hi C_Maier,
I can not see the available options when it is disconnected. A screenshot when it is connected would be best. I have done some research though, and believe the option to select 'save all pages to a single file' may only be available if your printer has a document feeder, and of course as you know, yours does not
I know with 10.7 and higher the option is there even with flat bed only printers. You might consider upgrading the OS.

  • HP Photosmart Premium c 309g will not print black, all other colors fine. Shows ink levels fine,

Have photosmart premium c309 g connected wirelessly to I Mac and Mac book pro.  The unit suddenly will not print black.  Ink levels show all good.  All other colors print fine.  When check HP utility and go to print quality diagnostics, a box appears that states cannot print PQ page--make sure printer is turned on.  If I tell it to print a page, it immediatly connects and prints all colors but not black.  How can it print regular page but not receive message to print PQ page?  "make sure printer is on" ??

I have this exact same problem with the same printer.  Printer will not print black. My macbook pro is connecting to the printer but shoots out a blank page.  I just put in a new ink cartridge even though it was not low on ink.  Please help.

  • Unable to check HP printer ink levels via Supply Levels

I've got an HP Photosmart 8450 printer, and so far no printing problems with 10.5.1. However, I can't check ink levels in the printer via the "Supply Levels" window, and I can't find another way to see this information. I'm using the printer driver supplied with 10.5.1.
This information was available under 10.4.11 - is there a way to obtain printer ink levels in 10.5.1?

I loaded mine from the 10.5.1 disk, but it's a separate operation from the main install. There's an optional install folder on the 10.5.1 disk with the info.
Load the system disk for your iMac and look at it in the Finder to see if there's a similar optional install folder. Then, there's always the HP website if you can find the driver there . . .
Regarding how you've got the 8450 printer set up, why not put the printer directly on the (ethernet?) hub rather than hanging it off the Vista laptop? There's an Ethernet port on that printer, and that's one of the reasons I picked that model. Your iMac probably can't see the printer the way you've configured things. Bonjour will be able to find the printer and get you hooked up with the printer directly on the hub.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909g new ink levels drop to less than half after few pages.

Installed all new HP940 ink cartridges and the levels dropped to half after only printing less 12 ink defective pages. Quality Diagnostics Page shows colors but black ink does not show up at all.  Self Test Diagnostic page shows printhead status is good. Checked the ink tubes and they are still neatly bundled and no signs of leakage.

    Hello TV60,
I see that the Officjet 8500 a909g is not displaying the correct ink levels and will not print black. You have done a great job trying to resolve the issue already, some steps I will suggest you have already done but it wont hurt to go over them again.
This HP link: Ink Usage in Inkjet Printers may help explain why the inks are not showing as full as you think they should be after just installing them.
These HP documents: Printer Does Not Print Black Ink or Color Ink, or Prints Blank Pages & Troubleshooting Print Quality Issues are going to help you figure out if the print heads need to be replaced even though your Printer Status Report shows the health as "Good".
    I hope this helps.
