Had in cupboard for a month. On power-up got to HP welcome screen quickly and thereafter whether you select f9 or f10   it will go to black screen and show flashing cursor  and  selection f9/f10 but takes maybe 2 minutes to do selected task. The same occurs if letting it boot to O/S (Win 7 Pro)--2 or 3 minutes. It will not recognize the optical drive and HDD activity light is constant.I have swapped out Hard-drive,CPU(Core2Duo),Memory,CMOS  battery and reset all to no effect. All that remains is the PSU and the motherboard.Has anyone any experience of this symptom.Experienced PC builder but this is a new one----Help !!!!!

I agree with you bvdg43.  Replacing the motherboard seems like the most logical thing to do in your case.  Make sure to update the thread if you perform the repair!

  • Windows 7 Hangs After Welcome Screen

About five months ago the workstations in our network started stalling at the Welcome Screen. Our fix is to restore back to the most recent restore point. This has worked (KOW) without incident. After reading many posts about the subject, and implementing
others fixes, we are still without resolution. A bit of background info, (more at the end of this post) the network has five W7ProSP1 64bit workstations. There is a 2003 R2 server used for file sharing only. This network has been running without issue for
almost two years. We've turned off MS updates. Ensured MS Defender is not installed. A new switch was installed to test the problem without success. And the most "thrilling" part of this problem is that it is intermittent amongst the workstations.
All are shutdown every night. Yet only a few will encounter the Welcome Screen Stall at the start of any day. Sometimes a week will go by without event for a few. There has been no changes to the PC's or their software. Users have been practicing safe-internet
    browsing habits.
Using Dell Optiplex workstations and Poweredge T410 server on a wired network. Avast Pro anti-virus as local installation.
    Any suggestions are gratefully accepted.

    Hi,
This is an intermittent situation, in this case, there will be error log generated at the event log, First I suggest to check the event log with the event viewer in this way
and post the error log for troubleshooting:
Open Event Viewer by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Security, clicking Administrative Tools, and then double-clicking
Event Viewer the go to the Windows logs, then systems.
    Details can be found at:

  • APE  crashes after welcome screen

My Adobe Premiere Elements 12 crashes as soon as I try to open a new project.  Here is the error message.
Unhandled exception at 0x08A98B6 (dvacore.dll) in Adobe Premiere
    Elements.exe 0xC00000FD: Stack overflow (parameters: 0x00000001,
    0x16C83FE0).

    Okay I'll try to clarify.
I opened my Adobe Creative Cloud and there was a message for me.  I can't remember exactly what it said but it indicated there was a service package for me to download (it said bug fixes in small font below the title).  It was not labled Premiere Elements exactly but did have the word "Pro" somewhere in the name.  I assumed I was supposed to download it so I did and it took 20 or 30 minutes to download and install.
I've been trying to run this program for over a week now and every time I try to run it it crashes after a few seconds.  So I cannot use the Add Media/Files and Folders/Project Assets because the program never opens, it just crashes so I never even see the menu options or the timeline.
I read somewhere in the forum that there is a bug in dvacore.dll that sometimes puts a double slash "//" in the default path which causes it to crash.  I thought perhaps if I loaded a file from a path other than the default path that I could get around this bug which is why I tried opening the raw video file using the "Open With" route.  When I did Premiere Elements opened properly and I was able to view the video as the cursor moved along the timeline so I assumed everything was working.  I even opened a new project which opened properly even though this had never worked before.
But now I it is crashing again whenever I try to open my previous project or start a new project or if I use the "Open With" menu options.
    Please help.

  • Slow to wake up; "Welcome" screen after archive & install

Thanks for the ongoing help. This board has been a lifesaver many times.
I've had numerous problems with my Rev. B iMac that usually require DiskWarrior to fix. It gets worse every time.
Anytime it shuts down unexpectedly, either because of a power outage or force shutdown, the files are so scrambled that it never gets past the gray screen without the fans running and then shutting down. I have to boot up in target disk mode and fix it with DW from my G3 iMac.
The problems start when I try to open a file or program immediately (less than five minutes) after it wakes up; I get the spinning beach ball for at least ten minutes, and then the computer seems to catch up.
This latest time, though, the files were so screwed that it gave me the "Welcome" screen and wants me to set the computer up from the beginning. I can tell that my files are still there when I boot up in target disk mode, but if I go through with the setup, will they be erased, and what's causing all these problems to begin with? The hardware test didn't show any problems, and both my RAM sticks appear to be OK.
    Thanks again for any help.
    G5 iMac 2.0 G   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   1 G additional RAM

Power outages can cause disk corruption just like a forced shutdown. With a UPS, you can eliminate the frustrations associated with a power loss. Get one.
Even though it passed the hardware test, I would still say that it sounds like a hard drive problem. Take the time to run the extended test and see what it finds.
If it still finds nothing, then I would try creating a new user account. There is no reason that starting up from sleep should give you any problems at all, but by creating a new user account, you can eliminate some possibilities like corrupted plist files and such.
Take a look at Dr. Smoke's <a href"http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/faqs.html"A>FAQs and see if you can find anything that works there.
If you create that new account and there are no further problems, I would either keep using that or do an archive and install of the OS.

  • After enabling the Built-in Administrator account, it is not shown on Welcome screen

    Hello,
    I have Windows 7 Starter SP1.
I have previously successfully enabled and then logged on, to the built-in administrator account,  and then when I had finished using it, disabled it again.
Unfortunately today, I found that when I enabled the built-in administrator account, it no longer appears on the Welcome screen.
I went through the process of enabling it by doing:
    Start/Search "CMD"/right-click CMD/Run as administrator.
    net user administrator active:yes
It confirms: "The command completed successfully."
However, when I log off and log back on (or do shut down and restart), the Welcome screen does not display any option for the Built-in Administrator account.
I have also tried doing the above in Safe mode, and also using Command Prompt from a Rescue disk.
    As background information:
The reason why I wanted to access this account today, was because I attempted to defrag a partition listed as "(1% fragmented)" and after Defrag appeared to complete while at "Pass 2",  the partition is still shown as 1% fragmented.
I would appreciate advice how to resolve the issue with the built-in administrator account.
    Regards,
    Robert339

    Hello Niki Han,
Thank you for your response. I have not yet had an opportunity to look into what you have written  but wish to thank you for that information.
Meanwhile, I would like to discuss the possible cause for this issue. I know the date when I last successfully accessed the built-in Administrator account, which was April 18, 2012.
Since I was last able to use that account on April 18, 2012, I have made no changes to the system other than install all Important Microsoft Updates through Windows Update.
A full scan with Windows Defender finds no threats.
A full scan with Avast finds no threats.
I beleive Microsoft may wish to ensure that this issue has not been caused by any of the following  30 updates. If it has been caused by one of these updates, then Microsoft should consider issuing a further update to correct this.

  • Welcome screen simply closes after clicking Photo Editor

And now after numerous click-banging attempts to open my previously working Photoshop Elements 13 trial version, I don't even get the welcome screen.
I downloaded the 30-day trial program yesterday, after a day's worth of download & install efforts, and I was able to successfully use the program last night.
I somewhat reluctantly closed Photoshop late last night after finishing working with some images, with a tiny little voice in my head saying it may not reopen again given the super crappy behavior of Adobe.
I didn't listen, and now I can't use the 30-day trial version anymore ... after one day.
I hate Adobe.  What a bunch of @#$%s.
Guess I'm doing something else today, and will save the ******** days of troubleshooting and wasted phone & sessions with Adobe for another day. Heaven forbid they demonstrate the courtesy and professionalism to provide functional trial software.

Fortunately I saved a psd file last night, and by double-clicking that file the program opened.
Too bad things don't work from the start menu.  I'll keep my psd "start" file on my desktop, never move it, cross my fingers, and offer nightly sacrifices to Mr. Narayen for the duration of this 30-day trial.
Eventually I expect I'll buy the program, and I can't wait to see all the ways in which that won't work.

  • Satellite A100-590 PSAA9E freezes on Toshiba welcome screen after BIOS update

    Hi.
Yesterday I did a BIOS update on my Satellite A100-590 PSAA9E-03Z00QGR with the appropriate flash:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_driver_details.jsp?service=EU&selCategory =2&selFamily=2&selSeries=153&selProduct=624&langua ge=17&selOS=10&selType=all&yearupload=&monthupload =&dayupload=&useDate=null&mode=userMachines&search =&action=search&macId=&country=all&selectedLanguag e=17&type=all&page=1&ID=58477&OSID=-1&driverLanguage=42
    bios-20070709111839.zip
After the flashing procedure the machine rebooted automatically, but unfortunately it now keeps hanging at the Thoshiba welcome screen. Also pressing F2 or F12 won't change anything. It seems like the BIOS is corrupt.
I saw, that in the BIOS package are delivered two flash files (s10gm590.rom and s10pm590.rom). But just executing the SanAntonion10 BIOS590MP.exe a .vbs script is started that decides automatically chooses and loads a flash file. Maybe it chose the wrong one?
What shall I do now? Is there a way to restore the BIOS, or do I have to send my notebook in?
    Thanks in advance

    > Satellite A100-590 PSAA9E freezes on Toshiba welcome screen after BIOS update
What to say Marc. It looks like you have used a wrong BIOS version or you have updated the BIOS in wrong way.
You could try to access the BIOS and try to set the settings to default.
Dont forget to save the settings if you will exit the BIOS.
But if this procedure does not help, you will have to contact the ASP in your country.
Possibly the guys will try to flash the BIOS again with other special version.
    Good luck
    Greetings

  • Welcome screen after reboot

Something very strang appen to me.
After using my MBP 15" normaly I rebooted, and now is showing me the welcome screen in lion, asking to choose the language etc.
Is my stuff gone? This can't be normal.

I will see that later today. Thanks
But I'm wondering how is that possible without entering in preferences and without hitting the alt key on boot.
I will see that and then report.
    Thanks again

  • After installing updates-Removing user-opens to Welcome screen

As the title says, I am setting up a computer for a relative and since the time I worked for Apple, I have forgotton the terminal commands to remove the test user I set up and reverting back to the welcome screen so the new user can set up the machine from scratch. I looked around here and could't locate anything pertaining to this specific issue using 10.7.X.   I am not sure if the process changed since 10.4 or 10.5 but hope someone on here can assist me.
    Thanks Much!

"Anyone ever heard of anything like this???"
Yes, mine did the same thing but not after a software update. I called and Apple is sending a technician to my house today to replace the hard drive. I could not boot from the system CD, a retail CD, in safe mode,in target disk mode or even from my backup drive. Thank goodness I have Applecare cause it isn't costing me anything but some time.
If you cannot get it to start up in any manner that generally means a hard drive problem. When the drive goes bad, the computer will not do anything. At least that is my experience. The same thing happed to me about 5 years ago with a brand new G-5 iMac. In that case I could not boot up from any media or in any way. Apple sent me a new drive and I put it in myself. It was under warranty also.
This is why it is so important to have a backup. With hard drives it is not a matter of if they will fail but rather when they will fail.
    Good Luck!!

  • Satellite M35X-S109: Toshiba welcome screen comes after 13mins

    Hello,
My toshiba laptop starts up in 15mins and i am very unhappy for that reason. Problem is when i try to open my laptop power button gets blue and fan is working but Toshiba welcome screen comes in 13mins. and windows opens normally in 1.5mins and after that computer works very fine. Has anyone know the reason why Toshiba welcome screen comes very late. In my opinion it is not a hardware problem could be something else.
Please help me. I really need a support.
    Model: M35X-S109
    OS: Windows XP Prof. SP2
    Thanks...

    Hi
I agree with Lucky. Before Toshiba screen will pass the notebook checks the hardware functionality.
This is not a software issue. As mentioned you can try to update the BIOS but please be careful. If the BIOS update will nothing change then I would recommend checking the memory modules. Please remove one module for checking the second module.
