D900iUSBFileenabler.kext Issue

When I upgraded to iTunes 10.5 I got an error saying that the extension "D900iUSBFileenabler.kext" did not install properly.
Since then I have been unable to add music to my iTunes Library (presumably because it is located on an external HDD)
I have tried reinstalling iTunes to the same end, any suggestions?

I just tried that; ran the repair permissions in Disk Utility, then ran the itunes.dmg again with the same result.
The System Extension Cannot Be Used
The system extension “/System/Library/Extensions/D900iUSBFileEnabler.kext” was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product’s vendor for an update.
I have also run disk repair on my external HDD just in case... this issue has only come up since I upgraded to the new iTunes 10.5
Any other possibilities?

  • IOStorageFamily.kext issue

    Hi all,
I recently attempted to change the icon for my hard drive. Instead of doing the copy and paste in the get info window, I had thought it would be a more thorough change if I modified the Internal.icns file within IOStorageFamily.kext (/System/Library/Extensions/IOStorageFamily.kext/Contents/Resources/Internal.ic ns I think). It all went fine replacing that icon until I tried plugging in a USB stick. I got an error message:
After two reboots, I got the same error message two more times when I plugged in a USB device. The USB doesn't show up in Finder or Disk Utility but it does register in system profiler when it is connected.
Luckily I had a backup of the original Internal.icns file so I replaced that, rebooted and now everything works fine. I have since just done the copy and paste in the get info window.
So can anyone tell me what was wrong with what I did to cause the error? Many places on the internet advised that replacing the Internal.icns file was the way to go for changing the icon, although I know they aren't always right? What should I have done differently and what actually screwed things up?
    Cheers.

    Hi,
(At first I want to say that my English is not that good, so there may be some faults in this anser.)
I had the same problem when i did the same thing as you did.
I changed some icons (so it would change all the drive's icons instead of one "via get info..."), and got the same issue.
After I searched for the solution on how to reinstall the .kext, I came up with this site.
    http://ihackintosh.blogspot.be/2008/09/how-to-install-kext-file-on-osx86.html
after following the steps, it fixed my problem, but the only down thing about this is that you need to have a backup (eg. a Time Machine Backup) to get the "IOStorageFamily.kext" file from before you made the change.
I provide you with my .kext file. (I do not know if this will work for other machines yes or no, but I think is is the same for all Macs.)    I would first try with your own backed up file.
I have a rMBP 15" with OSX 10.8.3 in case.

I hope this will fix your problem.

  • IOUSBFamily.kext issue

I updated my late 2006 iMac to 10.6.8 and after rebooting I encountered start up errors. It turned out if I had any mouse connected a kernel panic would occur. After scanning the log and skimming some forums I figured the best course of action would to be to install a previous version of the IOUSBFamily.kext. My keyboard was still working and I was able to use my machine using a Wacom tablet. The older package I downloaded would not install since I had a newer version already installed. I am afraid I did something rather foolish and deleted the existing kext, hoping I could install an older version after reboot.
After rebooting I found that my keyboard, mouse and Wacom tablet were not being detected. After booting into safe mode the keyboard is still unresponsive.
    Any ideas?

    Reinstall Snow Leopard.

Also, I unchecked updates so new versions of software wont upload,If it works why fix it,  If you purchase new software make sure its compatible  with your OS system. I had to reload my printer drivers as well. The new yosemite OS wont work on my 2007 macpro intel quad duo.  I have 4 gig of memory and 1 tb hard drive. The only problem I ever had was a hard drive crashing and since I didnt have the os system disk I had to purchase the leopard os. But since I fixed  the Appleusbethernethost.kext file. my  10 usb port hub works better, I mean now my android shows up and my card reader. Go figure

  • AMDRadeonAccelerator issue

    Hi everyone
Current i have an issue with my macbook pro 2011 early - MC721
This model packed a discret card:AMD Radeon HD 6490M
I live with a problem long time, dont know if it cause by a RAM corrupted issue, because one of my RAM is failure and i replaced it, now 2 rams is fine
At first, some month ago, it starting to random freeze when i run a program which need to switch to discrete card like Movie or iOS Simulator ...
After that, very difficult to able to boot into my Macbook pro, it seems freeze at the point it read AMD kext, i dont know just after DMOS arrived a little.
It boot into safe mode fine, so i try to remove AMDRadeonAccelerator kext. after remove it and reboot, it now boot normally, and no any problem within 4 month already.
Yesterday, i tried to use internet Apple Hardware Test it says my macbook has no any issue.
So i tried to reinstall Mountain Lion, hopefully it will boot fine.
But it still not fine, still freeze at same point, and i again need to boot to safe mode to remove AMDRadeonAccelerator kext, so i can boot normal again without discrete card
So i dont understand if my discrete card actually issue or AMDRadeonAccelerator kext issue or other problem. because apple hardware test yield no issue.
Any solution, because i want my discrete card so i can do many thing like play game which a Nvidia or AMD is required
Lastly, because discrete card problem i also can't boot into my windows via bootcamp seems windows also auto check discrete card and i dont know how to prevent it check.

This issue was resolved after applying latest patch from Oracle.

  • Does someone know "AppleDallasDriver.kext"?

    Hello,
I recently connect Apple Pro Speakers to my Digital Audio PowerMac via the Apple speaker mini jack connector.
After that, I got problems during run up of MacOS X (10.4.10), where the AppleDallasDriver.kext issues lots of messages like this:
    Aug 2 21:01:09 AppleG4 kernel[0]: ^PSound assertion "++errorCount > 10" failed in "AppleLegacyAudio/AppleDallasDriver/AppleDallasDriver.cpp" at line 152 goto exit
The run up takes several minutes and after that, I finally got a messages, that the speaker hasn't been detected.
But everything worked fine, like audio, volume, balance etc.
As a solution, I removed the AppleDallasDriver.kext from the system, which solved the run up problems. I also didn't experience any problems regarding sound, functionality in audio midi setup tool etc.
So, for what is this driver needed? In the source code, I've only seen that it should work as something like a bus master for some device.
I'd like to know, if removing can lead to problems in some way?

  • USB Serial CDMA Mobile WWAN CCL PPP PL2303

    Hello all,
I have an internet connection issue or issues. It seems this is a complicated issue because there are so many layers involved.
    Hardware:
    iMac9,1
2, IOGear USB Extension cables (powered)
Mobile phone manufacturer supplied USB-Serial Cable.
Huawei branded CDMA 2000 1x RTT mobile phone with Qualcomm modem and Prolific PL2303 USB-Serial Bridge.
R-UIM card for local ISP in Nepal (United Telecom Limited)
    Software:
    Mac OS 10.6.8
I have tried a few different ways to make the connection and getting a connection isn't necessarily the issue.
First I tried to use the Prolific PL2303 kext. It's widely known you have to add the devices Vendor ID and Product ID to the info.plist file for the driver to load the device at boot time. But, apparently we don't need that third-party kext because Apple has built in support for Huawei as evidenced in three existing kext files: WWANSupport, WWANSupport1, and AppleUSBMergeNub (that lives as a plugin inside IOUSBFamily.kext). Problem was that the phone was not being recognized by the system even though the Vendor ID was a match. Any guesses why?
I figured a way for the device to be recognized via the CellPhoneHelper.kext. Huawei is not listed but duplicating the 'Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM (KPC680)' IOKitPersonality and then reconfiguring it to match my Huawei device by changing the Vendor and Product IDs worked perfectly. Once I cleared the system cache files and rebooted the phone was recognized immediately as a WWAN device and I could set it up in Network Preferences. Using the Generic and CDMA settings for the modem script I am able to connect. That's where the fun bit ends.
The connection gets wonky. It randomly leaves me in limbo, seemingly connected but not able to receive any data. If I 'disconnect' using the WWAN menu, it shows me as being disconnected but actually I am not, the phone is still be connected to the tower. If I open up a serial program I can see that the phone is still sending data. The only way for me to end the connection is to unplug the USB cable. Then I can 'Connect' again and everything pretty much repeats. I will have a decent connection and then at some random point I will loose it and be unable to disconnect from the tower. This is a stationary setup; not roaming.
One thing I have noticed is that the tower will give me a different WAN address randomly. Maybe this is the issue! While connected I will see in 'ppp log' that I am being logged out and logged in again and then I am given a different LAN address and WAN address. Sometimes I will get an error, 'Could Not Authenticate" and I will be disconnected. Sometimes it appears to work seamlessly. This all happens automatically. I am not sure from which side this is being initiated, my modem or software or the ISP's?
I have poked around but don't really know what I am looking for. Is this an issue with the CDMA.ccl, or an issue with PPP, or is it a USB IOKit issue, or a kext issue? Who knows.
When typing 'sudo dmesg' in Terminal I get something that seems odd to me, but might be completely normal.
    AppleWWANSupport1: Version number - 2.0, Input buffers 16, Output buffers 4
    AppleWWANSupport1: Version number - 2.0, Input buffers 4, Output buffers 2
I took note of the Input and Output buffers in the CellPhoneHelper.kext info.plist and they are 16 and 4 for my device. I don't know why 4 and 2 immediately override those. I don't see anything in AppleWWANSupport1 that has 4 and 2 set for buffers. Could this be the issue, i.e. the connection freezing because the buffers get full? Or could it be because the mobile phone is using two channels for the modem, /dev/cu.wwan and /dev/cu.wwanCNTL and that is normal??
I took a look at the CDMA.ccl modem script. I am not a modem script designer but I noticed that 'C' is set twice in the same init, &C1&C2. I am not exactly sure why that would be, any ideas?? Track remote DCD (&C1); Unix compatible DCD control (&C2). What about 'hsreset'? Not sure but I guess the Prolific PL2303 chip handles the serial port flow control options? The literature is a bit out of date on this.
So, lots of questions and no answer so far. A bit too complicated as there are so many layers working together and this is not a supported configuration. I do see a lot of people asking similar questions but mostly it's on different systems, like Linux, etc.. and with different hardware.
Would love to hear from someone with experience, a programmer or someone familiar with Apple's IOKit and modem inits.
    Regards,
    John

  • MacBook Air mid 2013 built-in keyboard trackpad

I need help! Upon a fresh install of osx 10.8.5 on my MBA mid 2013 my built-in keyboard and trackpad do not work. If I boot into recovery they work! But once I boot to my desktop at the login screen I can't control anything.  I've tried repairing permissions several times, also a clean install and still nothing. For awhile the backlight was working but now that is off. If Ieave the lid open and put the computer to sleep I can press the space bar and the screen will wake up. So I'm not sure what's going on here. I'm thinking it might be a "kext" issue and when I look into the console app there is a repeated error "kernal: Error: AppleHSSPIControler: :_handelEnumerationFailureGated Giving up on device"

That's a much more useful description of your issue.
Check you last complete backup and manually update any valuable PITA to recreate replace data folders, files only (FWIW you should have TWO backups of any VIP data - apps can always be reinstalled.)
Best troubleshoot / solutions to try source I found was this. Unfortunately you have another one of those "problems" with no surefire cause or fix. Again - you may not have to complete all steps... start at the beginning and go slowly. Try a couple things and wait and see if the error reoccurs.
Second discussion - if the steps from the link can't solve the issue you may have to start over with configuration of TC.
    Added second link and advice.

  • Upgraded Mini: Link speed = 130Mbps, Transmit rate = 65Mbps

It was a long night last night.  I finally upgraded my old Mini (Late 2006) with a compatible Atheros AR9280 wifi card.  It's already been upgraded years ago to 2GHz C2D, SSD, 2GB RAM - running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.  So wireless-N is really the last thing to do here.
Installed easy enough.  Recognized and connected to my AEBS (2nd gen.) - but only at 65Mbps transmit rate.  No matter what - apparently.  Network Utility reports Link Speed at 130Mbps possible.
    My network:
    AEBS (2nd gen): 2.4GHz N-only, WPA2, Can't go to 5GHz - my tablets/phones not compatible, and AEBS (2nd gen) is not dual-band.
LAN-connected: Mac Mini Server (2010), Windows 8 laptop, and my NAS.
WLAN:  Windows 7 laptop, above Windows 8 laptop occasionally, 2 pads, 2 phones, and the old Mini in question.
All of the above achieve transmit rates at 117-130Mbps depending on where I'm positioned (except the weaker phones and pads).
Here's what I tried and discovered last night:
    [thinking it's interference/distance/signal problem]
    1. Positioned the mini 6 inches from AEBS - increased signal to -22, but still 65Mbps.
[thinking it's single vs multiple data stream problem, so then...]
    2. Connected the bluetooth antenna as secondary antenna on the card - increased signal, but still 65Mbps.
[thinking it's antenna problems, so then...]
    3. Used 2 antennas from parted laptop.  No change.
[thinking it's a problem with the wifi card, so then...]
    4. Installed the card in an old Windows 7 laptop, installed drivers - Transmits at 130Mbps!!!
[thinking it's a router issue with Macs only, so then...]
    5. Turned on wifi at the newer Mac Mini Server (2010) - Also transmits at 130Mbps!!!
[thinking it's Mac OS "registering" my card capabilities as the old 54g card somehow, so then...]
    6. Installed fresh 10.6.8.  No change.
[thinking it's driver compatibility issue with "IO80211family.kext" version 3.2 (in 10.6.8), so...]
    7. Tried the Lion and Mountain Lion versions of kext above (edited as they don't natively see the AR9280) - Not compatible - No card found.
[thinking that a beer would be really good to clear my head, so...]
    8. Beer, followed by sleep.
So the card is fine, antennas are fine, router setup is fine (at least for all other machines).  It must be one of two things:
A: MacMini (Late 2006) hardware limitation of some kind - Although I have seen others with this upgrade online.
    B: Driver/kext issue.
Anybody brave enough to take a stab at this?
    Respect -

Thanks for the effort guys -
Tried these two suggestions at the same time, by disconnecting all wireless devices, and setting the AEBS to 11n 5GHz only, and rebooting AEBS and the Mini.  Auto channel is the only option in 5GHz - and it chooses channel 100.
    Same story: 65Mbps
I'm onto another theory now - The card is not an Apple branded Atheros card, although System Profiler accepts that it is (see above screencaps).  It has the same chip, but not the same branding.  Note the "Card type" is reported Airport Extreme (0x168c, 0x1c71).  In other reports I have seen the second half should be 0x8f for the AR9280 card.
What also bothers me is that "Locale" is "Unknown".  On the original 54g card it was "FCC".  Perhaps this prevents the card from using its full capabilities?
But the main issue I can't get my head around is that in other failed upgrade efforts I have seen while searching - their card is just not recognized or unsupported, etc.  My card works - but not full speed.

  • Can't remove Hamachi from Menu Bar (icon)

I own a second hand 17" 2006 MacBook Pro, today and yesterday I have had to reboot the system because it just quits on me. After getting back onto it by resetting the PRAM, I went on a deleting mission getting rid of photos and games and their relevant files to make sure this wasn't blocking it up with unessential items.
However, I've tried to delete Hamachi, used for game servers, and I can't delete it because it lives in the Menu Bar, so logically I went to see how to remove it but Command+click/drag just doesn't work, it just opens the drop down menu. I searched further and found that if this didn't work I could simply just click 'Quit' on the drop down menu, but that does nothing either!
I haven't got a clue how to get it out of my menu bar and until I do, I can't delete the supporting files also, help anyone?

    Uninstalling Hamachi on Mac
Follow the instructions to remove LogMeIn Hamachi from your Mac:
In Finder, go to the Applications folder and double-click HamachiUninstaller.
Choose if you want to Remove all settings and Hamachi configurations.
If you select this option, all your networks and membership information will be lost.
If you leave the option unselected, you will have all your networks
on the Hamachi user interface when you reinstall LogMeIn Hamachi.
              Click Yes.
Enter your Mac user password and click OK.
    http://help.logmein.com/SelfServiceKnowledgeRenderer?type=FAQ&id=kA0a0000000sbju CAA&search=1&kw=uninstall%20OS%20X
LogMeIn installs a at boot kernel extension file into OS X itself to operate, it can only be uninstalled using their uninstaller.
If it has a problem uninstalling, install it again to return all files, then uninstall it.
If that doesn't work, you can hold Shift key upon booting and head to Macintosh HD/System/Library/Extensions  and find the LogMeIn kext file and move it to the Desktop. Then reboot to get out of Safe Mode.
If that doesn't work, then perform a #8 Reinstall Just OS X, Software Update fully and reinstall from original sources any other programs that fail to function correctly, however you might not be able to get 10.6 compatible copies of those programs again. Thus the manual method.

  • How do i install the speedit Kernel extension?

I'm not used to using terminal, and i can't understand the text read me that came with the speedit .kext. I have Ministat 2 installed in my dashboard, it was just updated to show intel mac processor temperatures if you have this extension installed, but i have no idea how to do it... i found a few posts on here about how to have it load at start-up, i'm pretty sure i want that too. Please help me! thank you
    -Ted

Place the kext in the /Users/Shared/ folder on your hard disk, and then open the Terminal in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder. Copy and paste the following into the Terminal:
    sudo chown -R root:wheel /Users/Shared/speedit.kext
Press the Enter key and then type in your administrator password; nothing will appear onscreen while you are typing it. This will prepare the kext for loading. To actually load the kext, issue the following command:
    sudo kextload /Users/Shared/speedit.kext
If the time elapsed between the first and second commands is five minutes or less, you will not be asked to type in your password the second time. The kext is now loaded, and you can use Ministat.
To load the kext on startup, open the Script Editor in the /Applications/AppleScript/ folder and paste in the following:
do shell script "kextload /Users/Shared/speedit.kext" password "" with administrator privileges
Enter your administrator password where indicated, and then save the script as an application. You can now double-click it to load the kext, or put it in the list of login items for your account in the Accounts pane of System Preferences to have it run on login.

  • IMac 3rd Party SSD -- No Trim -- What Now?

After Yosemite, I had the dreaded kext issue due to having a 3rd Party SSD and using SSD Chameleion.  After I got that all sorted out, I ended up not enabling Trim on OS X.  And I'm fine with that.  However, since it has been a month or two since it has been turned off, I am definitely noticing a slow down in my computer on day to day tasks.  Is there anything I can do to force a "trim" to get it back into shape, but without editing kext to do so.  Anyway around it?

I'm hoping for a new version of Trim Enabler from Cindori that works with kext signing in February http://www.cindori.org
SOme folks are enabling trim and letting it clean up their ssd and then disabling it again.

  • Intel Core 2 Duo, OS X 10.5.1 and D-Link DIR665 = Connection Timeout

Have just acquired a new D-Link DIR-655 wireless N router to use at home, after the old Airport Extreme UFO decided to leave us.
We have several ibooks intel and G4's (running 10.4 and 10.5), a Dual G5 and a Sony Vaio notebook. I fixed the "Appleairport2.kext" issue when installing Leopard on the G4's and all were working acceptably (concrete walls are not friendly to high frequencies) under WEP and the Airport Extreme.
After installing the D-Link router a few hours ago, everyone is working fine under WPA Personal and the D-Link, except for the iMac. It did function for about 10 minutes (what makes the whole thing even weirder). We have BootCamp installed and neither OS X 10.5.1 nor Windows XP can connect to the network now. Under OS X 10.5.1, after you ask to join the network and give the information (SSID, type and key) it instantly (a second or two at the most) will say that "Connection timeout" on the lower left corner of the dialog. They do find other open networks not safe and connect just fine to the. Running our network without WPA or WEP is out of the question.
It does seem to be a Leopard WPA issue - but then it should not have worked at all the beginning as it did - blazing through some trailers from the Apple site like never before.
I've read the forums for a while now and found a lot of people that never got the connection to work at all. This case seems a bit different therefore the post.
    Your help is very appreciated.

I think we're all awaiting an update to resolve this issue. Mine does the same thing, i think you'll find other similar posts in both the imac and leopard forums.
My temporary fix attempt is going to be using an old wireless ethernet bridge connected to the ethernet port of my imac.
For what its worth you can keep attempting to connect via the airport, and it may eventually connect, mine does, but once you wake from sleep you'll likely have the same issue.
Not what you were hoping to hear i'm sure.
    Hopefully an update soon?

  • Hard drive full, can't reboot after permissions fix interrupt

I was repairing permissions, and killed the process because it was taking too long with all the ACL kext issues. I decided to restart, now it's taken over 12 hours to boot in safe mode and still a spinning progress ball. I know I need to clear free space for the os, although I never saw a waring,, and only incidentally realized know full it was. Only 10 gb free space.
I have a time machine back up but am not sure it's recent at all. I have successfully booted from the snow leopard  install disk and verified that the disk is ok. My question is this. Should I continue to let it boot up? Will it ever? Is there a way to delete files when booted from the install disk? Or anywhere else?
    Ideas? Thanks, joe

Yes, I would backup your data immediately before the drive has a complete failure.

my mackbook air starts up with a persistent grey screen, apple logo and a spinning gear. It will not show the login window

Press and hold the power button down to force a hardware shutdown (emergency use only!)
Next find the Shift key and hold it and press the power button, the machine will boot into Safe Mode.
Next backup your files to a external drive just in case.
    Emergency backup procedure
Drag and drop copy your users file folders (music, pictures, documents etc) to a regular external powered drive as soon as possible.
Do not use, setup or trust only TimeMachine at this troubled time as it will copy corrupted data and we need just your users files safe just in case. TimeMachine cannot be used with a Windows PC.
Unmount and Disconnect all external drives once the backup process is completed.
    Note:
If you have any over 4GB sized files, those won't copy to a standard formatted FAT32/MSDOS drive from the factory, if you need to save these 4GB+ files use another blank/empty drive and use Disk Utility to format it 1 Partition, Option: GUID,  Format: OS X Extended Journaled (or the standard default one for older Mac's).
Mac's cannot copy to nor format a NTFS  drive. ExFAT format to be used with a Windows machine must be right click formatted by Windows, not OS X (does it wrong) XP macines can install a free exFAT update from Microsoft. Vista-Win 8 can format exFAT.
Formatting a drive will erase all data on it.
    Most commonly used backup methods
Your problem is likely due to a incompatible third part at boot kernel extension file that some program installed into OS X at some time.
If you can recall which programs you installed using your Admin password then that's a good place to start and update or uninstall those programs.
The next solution is a #8 Reinstall Just OS X + Software Update fully,  this will replace OS X with a new copy, fix OS X if it's the cause and kick out ALL third party kext files out of OS X.
You also can manually drag and drop the third party kext files (if you know what they are) out of of the System/Library/Extensions folder and reboot.
