DAC 200 to iMOVIE Connection Problem

I know this came up in 2005, but those solutions did not work for me, so far. I want to convert VHS from my VCR to DV and edit. I do not see the DAC200 on my iMOVIE "DV" screen. Screen just says "camera not connected". iSIGHT works fine, I tried the GarageBand trick after shutting down the MAC and removing the iMOVIE plist, and the DAC200 dip swithes are set at 4 & 5 per the manual. Any new fix ideas in the last year? Do I need to get iLIFE (or maybe a-LIFE?) I have iMOVIE HD 5.

three places to locate the origin to this:
- DAC 200 - try it on another Mac/Computer - ONLY FW-connection (there
are converters with USB - no good with iMovie)
- FW cable - test another one
- Your Mac - here there are lot's of posible origins:
∆ Do you have FCE/P on this Mac too - some versions interferes
∆ Version miss match of: Mac OS + iMovie + QuickTime
◊ Mac OS X.4.8 + iMovie 5.0.2 + QT 7.0.3 or 4 should may be work
◊ iLife 6: OS X.4.8 + iM 6.0.3 + QT 7.1.5 should also work OK
∆ Re-setting the FW-port can sometimes help. Un-plugg the Mains for about
10 - 30 minutes. Really manual un-plugging !! Not just turning off.

WRV 200 with QuickVPn connection problem.

We are using a WRV200 VPN router to VPN to a Windows 2003 server. Three remote clients connect. One of the client machines has never had difficulty connecting. The other two can connect sometimes; sometimes not. Rebooting the router usually corrects the issue, but is not an acceptible long term solution.
A few weeks ago I ran Norton Removal Tool on the "problem" client machines to clear up any remnants of the Norton firewall and things worked well for two weeks (thought that we were over the hump). Now the problem has started again.
Can anyone help?

first off , ensure that the router has the latest firmware version ... also , try changing the MTU settings on the wrv200 to 1458 ..

Dac-200 Converter VS. Using Video Cam Corder

I am considering purchasing the DAC-200 for connecting my DVD player up to my MAC for copying clips to use in my Imovie program. Does anyone have any suggestions or comments on the best approach?
Specifically, is this approach better than using the camcorder convertor?
Are there any problems I should be aware of before starting this? (I don't believe in "reinventing the wheel")

Don't really know what DAC-200 is so I guessed.
Yes there is a copy-protection signal on most commersial DVD AND VHS.
Canopus ADVC-300 sence this and destruct the video signal so it will not work.
Regarding Cameras You have to try.
Violating the Copyright is illegal in many countries. Info on how to do it
is also forbidden in many countries.
You will most probably not get any usable info on that in this forum.

Troubles w/ Analog video transfer DAC-200

Setup - S-Video out from VCR (RCA DRC8320N) to in on Datavideo DAC-200
- red/white audio out from VCR to in on converter.
- white/yellow out from converter to white/yellow on monitor
- Firewire out from converter to Mac
- converter settings - "AV" and "16-bit"; DIP switches - 4 and 5 on and
the rest are off
Results - "Camera Connected" on iMovie screen. I play video from VCR. I press "Import" Nothing but bluescreen (counter stays at zero), but message says "camera playing". When I press the stop button on iMovie the converter switches from AV to DV.
PLEASE HELP!

Here is an alternate solution:
If you have a digital video camera, attach it to your VCR or other analog device. Set it up to record from the analog device - see your owner's manual. Record the VCR material onto dv tape. Then, connect the camera to your computer using firewire or USB. Import into iMovie as if you had shot the footage yourself on your camera.
I have been successful using this method for old VCR home movies, laser disks, etc.
It is time consuming and takes many steps, but it works!

DataVideo DAC-200: anyone using this?

I've been researching the various methods of getting my old analog Hi8 tapes into iMovie and I've come down to getting a external converter over using a DV camcorder with pass-through. There seem to be 2 converter in the price range I'm in, the DAC-200 from Datavideo and the ADVC-110 from Canopus. I've read a few negative things about the 110 so I'm leaning towards the DAC-200. A search here doesn't seem to turn up anything on that so I'm wondering if anyone uses it or has heard any good or bad things.
BTW, I assume it would be compatible with intel iMac's and iMovie 6 HD but the Datavideo site doesn't say so. Does anyone know if it will work with this setup?

I don't know anything about the DAC-200, but I have used the Canopus ADVC110 to convert/import about 25 three-hour VHS family tapes to iMovie (not all at once!) with no problems whatever.
I can thoroughly recommend it.

Unable to capture video from VHS through DAC-200

(Running Final Cut Pro 5.1.4)
I have a DAC-200 to hook up my VCR to my G5 in order to capture video from VHS tapes into Final Cut. I had this set-up working a few months ago, but it was disconnected to rearrange equipment and now I can't get it working again. I have followed the advice from the DAC-200 installation instructions and advice from other forum topics but can't seem to get it to work. I finally was able to get something in the log and capture window besides "preview disabled" and "cannot capture because there is no video." I now can get Final Cut to capture video, however it only captures a blank black screen (and this is all I can see in the preview window).
I've triple-checked every cable hook-up, the G5 recognizes the converter box, the video tape plays fine to a tv. I've even had our IT-guy here at work come check out my set-up for help and he can't figure out what is wrong either. (He did get my log&capture window to get white fuzz in the black screen at one point though. Does that mean anything?)

I had difficullty with the X.4.10 plus QT7.2 and put my info on the Forum as well as sending feedback to Apple. Shortly afterwards, Apple brought out a short security update which I downloaded and, hey presto, I was then able to use QT7.2 with OSX.4.10. It may be that you missed out on the later small update to QT7.2..... ? Another factor I found was that some little while later I again had a problem so I again installed QT7.2 and over-installed FCP5.1.4 which has resolved my problems for the time being. Worth a try if you still can't get through on the DAC.

New iMovie '08 problems -- FireWire or new device issues?

Not sure if this is an iMovie '08 problem or an OS X problem. Here's the story --
Prior camcorder was a Panasonic, MiniDV format. Hooks up nicely with iMovie, via FireWire (400). I also have a WD My Book (500 GB) device to store the raw data (Event Library), which connects via FireWire (800). In the past, all three devices (Panasonic, My Book and MacBook Pro) all played nicely together.
Fast forward to now. Bought a new camcorder (problems with the Panasonic). It's a Canon ZR950 (MiniDV). With iMovie running, I first connect the WD device which is successfully mounted. I then hookup the new Canon and within a few seconds I get an error about a "device not cleanly shut down" (or words to that effect). Odd .... and when I try to connect to my new camcorder, I get a "no camera connected" error.
Rebooted, retried .... same issues. Another time I first connected the Canon and this time, iMovie successfully sees it. I go to connect the My Book and then the camcorder drops out.
So, it seems I can have only one FireWire device connected at a time, which is odd since I didn't have this issue with the old Panasonic.

Interesting that you based your purchase on CR magazine because I too use it like a bible. However, when it comes to video cameras, I think they are way off base when not considering the editing side of video making that goes along with any camcorder. Who shoots video simply to plug it into a TV for playback?? If they were doing responsible reporting on this particular subject, they would also include computer capture and editing details in the reviews. Lots of the new format cams don't even work with Macs and the ones that do generally give lesser quality after conversion than what you can still get with tape. At least you made the right decision there!

Quality of VHS/8MM imported through DAC 200 anolog converter

I purchssed a data vision DAC-200 to convert my VHS and 8MM tapes and import into iMovie. However, when I import there are breaks in the import and the quality of the import is poor, even though the quality on the TV (VHS) and camcorder is good.
Mac OS X (10.4.8)

To tell you the truth I've read complaints/questions about configuring this and several other datavideo units but none about quality.
Any other suggustions
No, other than double checking other selectable features on the converter.

Sure, that's a possibility. Or maybe the best quality this unit can produce doesn't meet your expectations.
If either is true I would suggest purchasing an inexpensive Mini DV camcoder w/passthru feature (HD Camcorders will drop in price soon and become the defato, no since in spending a lot of money), then you could record, convert, play etc. (more features than purchasing another converter)
Note:
If you setup your converter on another computer using the same VHS player/8mm camcorder and input source, you'd have a comparison to base your next decision on.

Having connection problems with Mail after installing 10.9.4

I upgraded to 10.9.4 a few days ago, and ever since, I've been having connection problems with Mail. First, it stops downloading new mail automatically and second, it won't send any of my messages. When I try to send, I get a message that it is unable to connect.
Quitting Mail and restarting it seems to clear the problem, but then it happens again, maybe an hour or two later.

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start Time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
12. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

RAC Datawarehouse connection problem

Hi:
I'm trying the initial load, and I'm running into a connection problem. The data warehouse is a 2-node RAC database. The error from the Informatica workflow is: ORA-12154: TNS: could not resolve the connection identifier specified. In the DAC the DataWarehouse data source is set and the test connection is successful. In the Informatica workflow manager the data warehouse connection is identical to the DAC data source. As I researched in Metalink note 604305.1, these setups need to be identical.
My question: does the host holding the Informatica server need a full Oracle client, including a TNSNames file? Currently we have installed Instant Client only. My suspicion is that this is causing problems for the Informatica server.

Solution:
Even though I'm using Instant Client, I created a tnsnames.ora file with the database information. I then created a TNS_ADMIN environment variable pointing to the instant client directory, and Informatica can now make the connection.

Imported footage from dac-200: audio muted

hey, i'm capturing footage from vcr and tivo using a dac-200 analog to digital conveter and once ive captured my footage in imovie the audio is silent. I can hear it while importing through the mac but when i come to play it back there is no audio.
is there something i'm missing here ? apart from sound !

WLC 2504 Connectivity Problems

This is a tricky one.
I installed a 2504 WLC with three AP's. Two SSID’s were configured, one with WPA2/AES-TIKIP and the other with Web Auth.
After installation, customers could connect to WLAN without problem and .
The problem that is occurring is that since the beginning of week, customers PDA's, cell phones and iPad and cannot access Internet with any of the two WLAN but clients who used laptop have no connection problems. Also the DHCP Server is assigning IP's correctly.
This problem also occurs with test SSID I created which is Open Auth. I see associated Cell phones and IPAD to the WLC but none of these answers ping from the WLC.
This is a WLC 2504 with IOS 7.4.100.

Today I did a test with my Cell phone Samsung Note 2 and I have the same conectivity problem.
I have installed the APK ipconfig from the Play Store for Android in my cell phone and y see that I getting IP Address, Mask and Gateway.
This is what I´ve got from the APK:

Timeouts and connection problems after 5.1(2) upgrade

AIM/chat and some other programs are having timeout/connection problems after upgrade to 5.1(2). I am using S241 also. The connection problems stopped when the IPS was set to bypass. Rebuilt IPS and left sigs at default settings and problem is still happening. I am not seeing any of the IPs that are having the problem in the Event Viewer or on the Events in the IDM.
Any known issues with the 5.1(2) that would cause this type of problem?

I don't know specifically, but I did notice that 5.1(3) was released today.

I have an iPad 3, iPad Mini and iPhone 5S and they are all sluggish on capitalisation using shift keys. I hope that Apple will solve the problem because it is driving me crazy.
I find using a Microsoft Surface and Windows 8 phone, which I also have, work as well as all the ios devices before the ios 7 upgrade.
It has something to do with the length of time that you need to hold the shift key down. The shift key needs to be held longer than the letter key for the capitalisation to work. For some reason, this is a major change in the way we have learnt to touch type on computers. I am having to relearn how to type!

RFC Receiver adpater Connection problem , Help us to solve ?

 Our scenarilo is Mail to RFC. It was running fine. In RFC Receiver adapter i have given Maximium connection property to 1 .
 While multiple set data passed to rfc will connection problem will come ?
 Most data not uploaded . I am getting the following error.
 If i set max connection to 5 . It is 5 times or more than that it is pusing the data .
 i am getting the following error while i set the Max connection to 1 . . Any other place i need to change configuration ?
