DAG member, PF database host, and hub maintenance (6hr power-off)
Hello,
We have an EPO test coming up in one of our data centers that requires me to power off 2 of our 4 DAG members. In preparation for this I’ve been reading up on DAG member maintenance best practice as well as deconstructing the Start[Stop]DagServerMaintenance.ps1
script. After testing in my lab I noticed that the iteration of Suspend-MailboxDatabaseCopy is followed by the parameter -ActivationOnly and sets ActivationSuspended to True. Why only suspend copy activation and not database copy processes? Does the script
assume that DAG member maintenance does not include server shutdown or is suspending database copy processes not actually necessary?
Also, one of the DAG members I have to power off serves 1 of 3 of our PF databases. I’ve noticed that the Start[Stop]DagServerMaintenance.ps1 scripts do nothing for PF databases. Should I just unmount it and rely on standard PF replication to update it when
I mount it back? Do I need to change my databases over to use a different PF database?
The power-off duration is 6 hours so I'm not too worried about log build up. Our CAS servers are VMs and will be “motioned” to our other data center. We have two Hub Transport servers, I plan to simply power one of them off. Am I missing anything?
Thanks!
Belinda,
Your understanding and the article you provided on Managing Database Availability Groups seems to be inline with what I've described. However,
just our of curiosity can you or anyone else explain why the script StartDagServerMaintenance.ps1
only runs Suspend-MailboxDatabaseCopy -ActivationOnly? In other words, why does the script only suspend copy activation and not the copy process?
"Did the two Hub Transport servers locate in the same AD site?", yes they are in the same
AD site but different physical locations. The article on HSS helped explain HT HA.
Thanks again!

I have lost my iphone and it was in power off mode
i lost my iphone just this evening ,and it was in power off mode.i believe its still not found by anyone since its still not ringing when i dial that number. i have filed a police complaint and ii logged in icloud to activate the find my iphone feature.keeping my fingers croosed. does anybody else know how to track it with the IMEI no.?
You cannot track an iPhone by IMEI. If someone finds it and turns it on where it
has access to WiFi or cellular service, it should show up on iCloud. You may wish
to put it into Lost Mode and display your contact information on the screen. -
My ipod keeps flashing on and off by itself and goes to the power off slide screen. How can I fix this problem?
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Optimize Hosts and Start Maintenance Mode Not working with warning (23756)
I have a new 2012 Hyper-V3 cluster, with SCVMM 2012 SP1.
Putting a Server into maintenance mode used to work, it would live migrate all the virtual servers off the host and pause in the cluster.
Also the new Optimise Host Feature also used to work.
Now all I get is this :-
Warning (23756)
Changes have been made which should be verified by running placement again.
Recommended Action
Use the Refresh Preview action to run placement again.
you can manually live migrate all the VM's of the host then put it into maintenance mode and all works fine !.
I do not understand what this "use the Refresh Preview Action" is. I cannot find any reference to this anywhere.
hope someone can help
many thanks
Mark GreenHi Mark
Firstly, the error text for this event is wrong, which is why it has a confusing recommended action. This error indicates that while planning an evacuation, something unexpected occurred when reading the underlying hosts and VMs. It may be something
transient, in which case you can attempt to manually the VMs off the host, and then see if this error resolves itself.
If there is something more fundamentally wrong, you can find what the underlying error is by collecting traces. Search the traces for the error text, and you should see the underlying problem embedded in the trace right next to this error.
Details of how to collect traces: http://blogs.technet.com/b/chengw/archive/2008/05/08/how-to-collect-scvmm.traces.aspx
Apologies, this error is very confusing and does indicate an unanticipated problem in our product. We are working to improve this experience in future versions.
I hope this helps!

Time Capsule wifi access very poor. it keeps disconnecting and i need to power on and off thr router to get the wifi connection back again. When it works its so slow, it works only in the roms nearby and not even upstairs in my home!
I cannot work from the serial number.. I need the model number. A1xxx in the rubber .. in the rubber.. for Gen1-3.. 2010 is probably Gen3 but can be early Gen4.
Follow up questions:
How do i take the firmware back to 7.6.1 or 7.5.2
wireless names are Room of requirement and Leaky Cauldron - Is that too long a name?
How do I set fixed wireless channels?
Can relocate. Its in the main level of the house to give me access upstairs in the bedrooms and down in the basement,
Change firmware.. hold down option whilst clicking version.
Wireless names.. short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. yes.. your names are wrong.. from my point of view.. more they do not obey the rules.. no spaces.
Check C9 here why this is important.
http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
Fix wireless channels.. option page in wireless are of utility.. you need to spend more time in the utility so you know what is there.
Location is everything.. sometimes you simply need more than one device.. wireless has limited range. Use ethernet or EOP - homeplug adapters to place another AP in area closer to your position. -

My iphone is frozen and i can't power off
please i want repair my iphone if is possible send me email at [email protected], give a steps for repair, its frozen and i can't power off
Hold down on the sleep button and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen. Let go of the buttons. Ignore the red slider if it appears.
-
Screen flashes and says slide to power off
My screen flashes from black to slide to power off its like the button on the top is sticking but it isnt
Try the standard fixes:
- Reset. Nothing wil be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory defaults/new iPod -
my ipod touch makes a shutter sound ( no camera on this ipod ) and then goes to the power off slider screen. It will do this several times and then screen goes blank have restored several times with no change is it terminal or can it be repaired this was purchased as a refurb
If you press and hold the home button and click on the sleep button once, the iPod will make a screenshot of your home screen and add it to the photos on your device.
If you don't press the home button or the sleep button during to do this, one of your buttons might be stuck.
Try to reset the iPod by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again, ignore the "slide to turn off" message when you press and hold the buttons.
If this does not work, wet it up as new device:
How to back up your data and set up as a new device -
My power button is stuck and I can't power off my phone. What do I do?
One day I went to use my power off button on my iPhone 4 and it stuck inside. I can't power off my phone now because I won't be able to turn it back on. Had anyone else had this problem? If do, what did you do to fix it? I've only had this phone for 6 months.
Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)
-
Screen dims and window says to power off. Is this serious?
This is the second time this has happened in the past month. I had a detailed description of the the first event, but since Apple decided to completely rejigger the support forum, delete all of my previous questions and replace it all with this far more confusing format, that conversation is gone.
I copied the malfunction report, but it means nothing to me. I'm hoping someone might be able to tell me if I have an issue for which I need to be concerned.
I thank you in advance.
Peter
