Daily backup for a certain folder on my desktop using Ipod - Possible?

I would like to use my iPod as a memory media to perform a daily backup (at a certain given time, every day) for a folder in my computer. How do I do that?
Do I need to have some sort of a software that will be directed to the iPod as its media? Is such a thing possible?
Thanks a lot...
R.

Hmmm... I've never done something like that myself... I would imagine you would need a dedicated application for backing up.
Maybe someone will come along who knows more. Otherwise, you might try Google.
Cheers!

Is there a possibility to define a certain identity for a certain folder so that when answering a mail in that folder this identity will be choosen automatically?
    Thanks, Manfred

Yes, they are assoiated to an account. But imagine my account's default from address is manfred@mydomain. Now I have some more identities, say manfred@myotherdomain, aso.
Now I want to make sure, whenever I answer a mail in folder f the from address should be manfred@myotherdomain.

do i have to charge my replacement macbook pro batter for a certain amount of time before using the computer?

First, if you have a Late 2008 or older MacBook Pro, you should calibrate the battery, as the battery for these MacBooks don't come precalibrated > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1490?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Then, the battery should come charged, so use it until the battery percentage is low, and then, charge it. You can use your Mac while your battery is being charged, and your MacBook will stop charging the battery when your battery is full, so you can unplug it at any moment

  • How to look for a certain value in a database using sql

Hello everyone. How do you do this in SQL? Or, is there a way to look for a certain value in a database? What I'm trying to do is this:
I want to look for the exact value "abcdefg" in the database so that oracle will return me details on the following that contains the said value:
    1. the name of the table(s)
    2. the column/field name(s)
Note: "abcdefg" could exist in different tables with different column names with different data types.
Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.
UPDATE: What about if I just want to check those fields/columns with string data types?

  • Daily Backup for Boot Camp partition

I'm looking for a Windows software to perform daily incremental backups from my Boot Camp partition to an external USB drive. It should also be possible to restore the COMPLETE Boot Camp partition from that backup in case of a hard drive failure. (It's NOT necessary that various versions of files are kept around-the-clock like Time Machine does. It's also not necessary that the backup itself is bootable.)
I've tried Genie TimelIne, but unfortunately it wasn't able to manage a complete restore. The taskbar was missing, no applications were installed (only present), settings were missing after the restore..., so I had to manually install nearly everything.
I've heard "Macrium Reflect" should be better. Is this true or does anyone have another good tip?
BTW I'm not looking for a solution to backup from the Boot Camp partition to the OS X partition and I don't want to create a complete clone every day.
    Thanks for your help!

A bit difficult to test such a software including worst case recovery if you can't dispense with the concerned computer temporarily. And VERY time-consuming!! Hence I asked for personal experiences.
Well,  Anyone elses personal experience won't mean much to you unless they have the same setup as you, so asking others for personal experience is as much of a crap shoot for you as doing it yourself.  I went through lots of testing several years ago on my first MacBook Pro, but almost none of that testing is valid for my current machine.  With the variations in machines, and machine configurations, what works for someone else might not work for you, and what might work for you might not work for someone else.  I learned this when I was testing Colnexzilla as a possible backup/cloning tool.  It worked fine on my MacBook Pro, but wouldn't work properly for a number of other users.
    coxorange wrote:
What do you mean I'm confusing?
I always wrote about the Boot Camp partition.
I agree that what you are asking for seems rather confusing.  You talk about backing up your data on your Windows partition, and you talk about performing incremental backups.  The WIndows 7 Data backup utility it perfect for tasks like that.  It's when you start wanting to perform disk image backups, and then ontop of that perform incremental image backups of your Windows partition that things get challenging and confusing.  Since you aren't clear about what scheme you want to use, it is hard to answer with a "clear answer" and not get confused by what you seem to be asking.
    coxorange wrote:
As far as I know that's not enough to perform incremental backups including EVERYTHING on the Boot Camp partition.
If you use the Windows 7 data backup and perform incremental backups, you will have a backiup of all your data from the Windows partition.  Isn't that want you want?  If you want to perform a restore, it will not restore you back to a bootable drive, but it will have all your data and files backed up.  If you want to perform a partition backup image, and make those backups incremental nightly, it might be possible.  Since you are talking about a Boot Camp partition on a Mac here, you also need to clarify if you want this backup to run when teh system is booted into Windows, or when teh system is runnign MacOS, or ifit is acceptable to boot from yet another media for the backup purposes.
At this time, I'm not sure that any software exists which can make backup image of your Boot Camp/Windows partition when runnign MacOS that will make a backup image that cna restore to a bootable volume and can do incremental backups.  There are few, if any backup tools that will run runder native Windows on your Boot Camp partition that will make an image file backup that can do incremental backups, and also allow you to restore to a bootable partition.  I beleive that the Paragon software is one of the very few that can do this.  I have tried and successfully made backupns and restores from backup disk images using custom boot drives for CloneZilla, and the Paragon Drive Backup tool.  I don't believe that CloneZilla will do inremental backups, and I'm not sure about the Paragon software as I stopped using Boot Camp about 1.5 years ago when I upgraded to my current MacBook Pro.  Now with this system, I don't run native Windows, I only run it virtualized using Parallels Desktop and VMWare Fusion.  For both of those, I get a full system backup with each MacOS backup I take, since the Windows File System is virtualized and stored entirely in files on my MacOS partition.

  • Daily Backup (Of one specific folder, changes daily)

I have a folder which records and saves some new audio files everyday automatically and it is eating up my onboard hard drive. I bought a Time Capsule and want it to update that specific file everyday so that it is not stored locally but on the server. Any ideas on how to do this?

Use the Finder to locate and then mount the Time Capsule drive on your desktop. Unless you have changed the name of the drive, it will be called "Data". Post back if you are not sure how to do this.
Drag/drop or copy/paste the file on the "Data" icon that is on the desktop.
I don't know what appliction you are using, but I'm sure that you will have to "point" the application to the new location of the files so that they can be found. I would suggest that you get a clear understanding of....
    1) Whether the application you are using will allow files to be stored in a separate location on another drive.
    2) How to tell the applicaton where to find the files in their new location.
I guess I am wondering if you move the file from your computer to the Time Capsule drive.....when...not if....the Time Capsule drive has a problem, do you have another backup copy of the file on another drive?  If you don't, when the Time Capsule drive has a problem....you lose everything since you do not have a backup of this file.
You might want to consider a different plan. Use an external drive connected directly to your computer for your file. Then, Time Machine will automatically backup your computer and the external drive so your "originals" in one location and "backups" in another. That would be the safe approach.

  • How do I remove a TM backup for a drive that is no longer used

Since starting using TM I have transferred all the files from one drive to another and removed the original drive from the machine.
Will TM realise this and remove the back up data from the TM drive or do I have to identify the specific part of the backup and delete.
Please do not say clear off all the data on the TM drive and restart - it takes over 24 hours to run the first back up to the Time Capsule.
THe redundant backup is taking over a third of the TM drive and so is a resource hog.
    Thanks for any answers.

As Thomas says, Time Machine will, eventually, delete them. You can do it manually but it will take quite a while, so connect via Ethernet cable. That will still be slow, but 2-3 times faster than WIFI.
You'll need to use the procedure in #E3 of [Time Machine - Troubleshooting|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Troubleshooting.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum) to see the backups of that drive.
Then use the procedure in #12 of [Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum) to delete all backups of the drive. That will take quite a while, and won't immediately get the space back. To do that, you'll need to manually "compact" the sparse bundle, per the pink box in #12.

  • How do I backup bookmarks to a folder on my desktop & NOT just an unreadable .json file before trying to recover lost bookmarks?

Previously whenever upgrading to a new browser my Bookmarks stayed the same. So I went into the library to backup what little I have left & was told to 'save to folder on my hard drive' & did so. There's NO FOLDER, just an unreadable file with the extension of .json
Maybe I should ask a better question: When restoring the bookmarks from a prior date will I get back EVERYTHING from that day (which would include the ones I was told to backup & can't, or am I faced with losing what I have left to get back what I lost? I have Windows XP home ed. version 3 & I'm afraid to do anything at all.
I know it's not life & death, just webpages I visit often, but some ARE very important & I don't have the greatest memory to remember them all.
PLEASE HELP ME!! Thanks in advance.

You can restore a JSON backup in Firefox if you have such a backup.<br />
    * Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Restore > Choose File
Restoring a JSON will however replace all the current bookmarks.<br />
If you have any that you want to preserve then you need to export the bookmarks to an HTML file and re-import that HTML backup after you have restored the JSON backup.<br />
Make sure that a JSON backup has .json file extension and that an HTML backup has a .html fle extension to avoid problems (nothing happens or you get an error like can't process the backup file).

  • Time machine makes 30 backups for the last two days, no backups for any earlier times: is there a way to control it?

I've been running Time Machine in the background for as long as I've owned my current Mac--- a few months.  It is a completely generic set-up: it's a desktop (rarely shut off or asleep) connected to an external hard drive that is much larger (1 TB) than my internal hard drive (0.5 TB), and Time Machine is configured to save backups of my whole internal drive to the external drive.  The external is half-full, and the internal is a little more than half-full.  I often hear my external crunching away, working on something.
I recently needed to access an old file, so I went into Time Machine mode on the folder where it had been deleted a few weeks ago.  While I'm not upset that it isn't available (it's my own fault for deleting it), I didn't expect the Time Machine to have such a bad distribution of saved backups.  There are 30 backup snapshots of the past two days, and nothing earlier.  I was expecting something more like a few from today, a few from this week, a few from this month, and a few going all the way back in time--- a broader distribution.
I don't see any way to control this in the Time Machine Preferences (in fact, very little control at all).  Is there a secret way to control it, or some tip to ensure a more useful distribution of saved snapshots?
    Thanks,
    -- Jim

Thanks, but it doesn't exactly address my question.  TimeMachineEditor allows me to set the intervals or times when backups occur, but it doesn't control the algorithm that decides which snapshots should be deleted.  My problem was that Time Machine chose to delete all of the old snapshots and keep only the most recent ones: I'd like it to keep more of the recent ones than the old ones, but still keep some old ones.
In fact, the (unmodifyable) text on the Time Machine control panel says that it keeps:
hourly backups for the past 24 hours
daily backups for the past month
weekly backups for all previous months
That would be perfect if it were true.
Perhaps the algorithm did the wrong thing because the size of my internal hard drive varied quite a lot a few days ago: a process got out of control and used up all of my internal disk space.  I killed the process and deleted its output (several times), so my internal disk eventually went back down to normal.  Perhaps in the intervening hours, Time Machine made a backup, once an hour, and used up all of the external drive space.  When it had to choose between keeping "weekly backups of previous months" and "hourly backups of the past 24 hours", it chose to keep hourly backups of the past 24 hours.  This was the wrong choice in my case (it was the unwanted output) and is probably the wrong choice in most cases.
Is there a way to control the algorithm that decides which backups to keep and which to delete?  I would have it delete the hourly, daily, and weekly backups in a way that preserves their relative distribution.
By the way, while I have made it sound like my problem was a runaway log file (something that would be easy to put in an excluded directory with Time Machine's "Options" button), it was a VirtualBox snapshot merge.  The data in question are precious, but were unnecessarily copied many times while VirtualBox failed to merge them properly.  I can't simply exclude a directory: I'm talking about a more general problem.
    Thanks!

  • How do TM daily backups transition to weekly backups ?

How do TM daily backups transition to weekly backups is something I'm trying to figure out.
As of Saturday Dec 1 at 0000 hrs I had daily backups for
    Oct 28
    I had none for Oct 29, 30 and 31
    Nov 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6
I had none for Nov 7 thru 14
    Nov 15 thru 30
I've been tracking this info on an hourly basis via a crontab entry setup using CronniX.
When TM did its hourly backup on Sat Dec 1 at around 0030 hours the Nov 1 daily backup was removed with TM reporting it had expired.
When TM did its hourly backup on Sun Dec 2 at 0032 hours the Nov 2 daily backup was removed with TM reporting it had expired.
Note that the Oct 28 backup is not being deleted/expired.
At this rate from now on I'm wondering just how many of my November daily backups will get removed by TM is the wee hours of the morning at around 0030 hours!
What I'm really curious to see is how TM designates a weekly backup.
Has anyone seen a TM weekly backup show up yet and if so how is it labelled on the TM backup Volume and in the TM browser's date/time tick marks located vertical on the right had side ?
    Thanks....

My thoughts on this at this time is that the Oct 28 daily backup contains all the necessary backup data that was contained in the Nov 1 and Nov 2 backups so therefore TM can expire/delete them with impunity. It will do this with the Nov 3, 4, 5, 6, etc until it finds some backed up daily data that does not exist in the Oct 28 backup. We will see as time moved forward.

For running the Adobe application You need to configure some thing in both Java as well as in ABAP stack for that abobe form application to work. You need to do some configuration in the Visual administrator for Java & also in the ABAP stack sidi using your SAP user id line creating ADSUSER , ADS_AGENT    user id creation and roles assignment and RFC destination creation etc..

  • External HDD (for Time Machine backup) detected but won't mount on desktop

I have been using this external HDD as my Time Machine backup for many months now. No desktop display settings have been changed (I checked), but now it won't mount on my desktop. I suspect one of my kids was banging around on the keyboard, as they have done in the past, and renamed it. Unfortunately it appears they renamed it to NULL this time around. I didn't think that was possible, but I've plugged it into 3 different Windows and iMac machines, and in all cases the external drive gets detected, but then in all cases it doesn't mount. The Volume Label does appear blank in the device properties.
Is there a way to access my drive again to rename it? Will that allow it to mount again? Or is there a way to access it to just reformat the whole darn thing?
    Thanks!
    Tom

I don't think it's possible to have a null name for a drive so i suspect there is a problem with it. open disk utility. does it show the name of the drive? try repairing it (repair disk not permissions). if that doesn't help you can always reformat it with Disk Utility. select the whole drive ( model, not name) and use the partition tab.
