Daily I receive a message for updating my Firefox (3.6.17 MacOs 10.6.8) but when I agree, it takes quite a long time and then OR a message: no contact with the update-server OR something like: Sorry we cannot find xxxxx(?!).
QUESTION: HOW TO UPDATE?
[By the way: what about version 8.0! Is that perhaps for mobile-systems?

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop

*Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
*Install the new version that you have downloaded
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data if you uninstall and (re)install Firefox.

This is typically caused when an add-on changes the user agent string (identifies the version of Firefox). To rectify this you can reset your user agent string.

I keep getting notified that there is an update to Firefox Weather 2.0.1 but when I try to install it I always get the same "download error" -228. How do I get around this?

I don't think additional details will help since I don't have any. I have tried repeatedly to install this update and always get the same result which I have already detailed. This is technically an Add-On but I was given no place to ask questions about it.

I got some help from an apple assistant on the phone. It is kind of round about way to get in.
Here is what he said to do and it is working for me...
a. on the device that is asking you for the security questions go to "settings", > "store" >
      tap the Apple ID and choose view"Apple ID" and sign in.
b. Tap on payment information and add a credit/debit card of your preference then select
      "done", in the upper right corner
c. sign out and back into iTunes on the device by going to "settings"> "store" > tap the
      Apple ID and choose "sign-out" > Tap "sign -in" > "use existing Apple ID" and you
      should be asked to verify your security code for the credit /debit card and NOT the
      security questions.
d. At this time you can remove the card by going back in to edit the payment info and
      selecting "none" as the card type then saving the changes by selecting "done". You
      should now be able to use your iTunes store credit without answering the security
      questions.
It's working for me ...I just have to put in my 3 digit security pin from the credit card I am using.

Im wondering why my post hasn't been answered yet. I did file a report with the BBB and I had a rude representative from Verizon call me named Steve. He said I can file all of the reports I want and I will just keep getting calls from him. I can understand why my phone couldn't be replaced because of the small crack. Vk2mh it sounds like the download was not complete or corrupted. Where are you downloading the update from? Have you tried downloading again?

You can't do anything. You have encountered the activation lock. Unless you have some sort of contact with the previous owner you have bought a very expensive paper weight.

Are you using iTunes on your iPad or the actual program on a Mac/PC?
If you are using on your iPad check the ID being used by going to Settings>iTunes & App Store if the Apple ID displayed isn't yours tap it and select Sign Out then sign in with your own Apple ID.
If you are referring to iTunes on a Mac/PC select the Store Menu and check the Account Name next to the View Account text, if this isn't you select the Sign Out option directly above it then Sign In with the relevant credentials.

If a phone is sold from one friend to another and wants to use it on a different carrier the friend can contact the carrier it was sold by to request it unlocked. I know AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint will give you the steps to unlock it as long as the original contract it was bought under has been completed. eBay/Craigslist is really not the best place to try to get "unlocked phones" from, if it turns out the phone isn't unlocked then I'm really sorry you got stuck with that one and as stevejobsfan said above I would report them immediately and see if you can recover your money.
