Daily OS update prompt causing Battery Pull

Okay, so lately now I am getting prompted daily to update my OS on the Z10 to the same revision all the time, even after I did it yesterday .... so I have done it none the less ... and now each time I attempt the update, it locks the phone up shut off, as in no power is on, and will not restart UNTIL I pull the battery ... then it will restart ...
I am only connecting with LINK to back up the contents to ensure if this Z10 craps out, that I don't loose much ...

Hey krazy_canuck,
Thanks for the question.
What is the version of software you're being prompt to update to? Also if you do connect up to BlackBerry Link do you get get a prompt for this software update?
I look forward to your reply.
Cheers.

  • N95 Updated software causing Battery life issues

    Hi
Can anyone help point me in the right direction?
I Updated my software on my N95 (silver) to V13.0.003 but since doing so the battery life has suffered,it hardly lasts half a day just on standby, where as before I'd get 2 days at least. Bluetooth is turned off Wlan searching is off there is nothing running except Standby mode.
I've also tried a different battery, and get the same results.
    Any ideas?

N95 Silver, I guess is the N95-1 or 3, both have newer firmware versions.
For N95-1 (RM-159) the last version is 30.0.015 and for the N95-3 is the 20.0.something. Both versions improves a lot the battery life and speed of the devices.
Check your last version with Nokia Software Updater.
Don't forget to make a backup of all your data before updating.
Remember that not all versions are available for all the product codes.
    Cheers!

  • BB z10 stuck on security wipe in progress even after battery pull

    Hello,
Last night my z10 rang but i couldnt answer the call. the screen was no more responding. I was surprised because 10 mins earlier i had answered a call and all worked well... fast forward... tried restarting a few times, tried battery pull a few times still no solution so i did a backup and started restore factory settings from the latest blackberry link. this was the begining of the end.. i watched my phone display "security wipe in progress" lost patience after about 3 hrs and did a battery pull.. putting the battery back it shows the blackberry logo then goes right back to "security wipe in progress"... its been like that for another hour+ and now im at wits end
    pls help

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Pulling the battery during a WIPE is dangerous with any device. What is happening is things are being wiped from the BB to return it to (sort of) factory settings. Stopping that mid-way risks leaving things in a partially completed state, which can cause the device to be non-functional.
I've read about times when a WIPE can indeed take quite a long time, requiring considerable patience. Since you posted this yesterday, I am hoping that you allowed it to continue so that it could properly complete...please let us know.
    Thanks!

  • Device will not Boot up after a battery pull.

Hi guys, today is my first time using this website and I also registered today so I am very much NEW here.
I live in Jamaica and my service provider is Digicel Jamaica. My phone is out of warranty by 6 months now as it was purchased 1.5 years ago from Digicel through my company that I was working for.
    I have a Torch 9860 with OS version 7.1.
Two months ago while charging the phone with the charger that was supplied from the manufacturer, i realised that the phone had become very hot and as such  i removed the charger and let it cool via removing the battery cover, at that point i realised that using the keypad to type messages the slightest tap of any letter resulted in that letter either not responding or it would give me multiples of the same letter , which prompted me to tap delete  which would either delete the whole word or sometimes just the letter. at other times, the keypad would work just fine. the battery also did not keep charge for more than a few minutes, and upon inspecting the battery realised it was swollen, as such I had it replaced with one purchased from my Dealer which solved the issue of not holding a charge, but the keypad was still behaving funny as previously explained above.
My major issue I am now facing is I did a battery Pull anf after replacing the battery, the Phone will not boot up, no blackberry logo with the load bar being displayed, the phone appears to be dead. the battery indicator light is blank even if the charger is connected. This occurred once  about a week ago and after several remove and replacing the battery it finally booted up and worked, but did another battery pull two days ago and it still will not power on.
Please Help, can you advise me if this is a new issue or what needs to be done. I am thinking as a last option to replace the entire board, but out here in Jamaica, that is a very costly option.
Thank you for taking the time to review this, any help or guidance or feedback will be greatly appreciated.

  • Successfully installed OS X Yosemite 10.10, App Store updates prompting me to update to OS X Yosemite Beta 2, OS X Yosemite Beta Recovery Update 1.0

    Good day community people,
I've successfully installed the final release of OS X Yosemite 10.10 on my iMac 21.5" (Late 2012). When I open the Mac App Store to check for updates, the updates prompt me to update OS X Yosemite Beta 2 & OS X Beta Recovery Update 1.0. The question here is, I already installed the latest release on my iMac why how come App Store still stated I need to update to Beta version?
More info on my previous state before installing the final release. I was a Open Public Beta tester of OS X Yosemite but I didn't install it on my iMac, therefore my iMac is upgraded from OS X Mavericks. So by right my procedure is correct. Please assist. Thank you.

It seems no one could answer my question here but I found the solution. There's a bug even after installing the final release that caused the Mac App Store keep on prompting Yosemite Public Beta updates. The only solution is re-download the final version again from Mac App Store and re-install on top of current installation without formatting or erase the hard drive.
    And you're welcome

  • Latest software update is causing the dock process to use an abnormally high amount of system resources- what's going on?

After I installed the latest software update (updates that prepare some apps to run on OSX Lion), I'm noticing that the dock process is using 100% of my CPU when idle. This is causing my battery life to be 30 min at best. What's going on?

There is a conflict with Parallels and the latest update that causes this.  Update Parallels to the latest version and it will fix this.

Have you attempted an iTunes restore and setting up as a new device? Sometimes battery life issues can be caused by corrupted iOS software.

  • Battery Pull Tab Missing????

I sent my iPhone 5 to Apple for repair because of display problems relating to the battery icon and because the phone kept turning itself off. I was then told that they would not repair it because the battery pull tab was missing, even though I never tampered with the phone, or never gave it to any third party to try and fix the phone. Apple customer service were far from helpful and only accused me of tampering with the phone from the start of the call to the end.
Has anyone had any experiences of this? What can I do?

well you and always slap it into your palm thats how i remove mine out of anger from time to time
Thank you for your inquiry. Adding to what was stated, there is no known way to reattach a loosened battery pull tab unless done by the manufacture. The amount of force needed to remove the battery using the tab is not very much. A wet, uneven hold on the tab may cause one to exert too force in pulling on it  tearing it off from connection. A good firm pull is all that is needed to loosen the battery. If the tab is still attached inside the phone but loose to where a hard pull could remove the tab, after removing the battery, secure the tab with a good thin piece of strong tape. Then use a thin firm type of material to help in place of the battery removal tab can be tried. Please be sure what you use permits the battery to be seated firmly and not damage the device, nor prevents the cover from going back securely nor prevents the battery from the needed electrical connections. Place it safely in the same place where the battery tab is located. This helps protect the phone from the outside exposure when the cover is in place.

  • Battery pull vs. "alt + shift + del"

Wondering if y'all could settle a (friendly) argument.
I have an End User who is insisting that hitting the "alt + shift + del" on
a BB (Tour) accomplishes the same feat as pulling the battery.
My side is that the aforementioned keystroke is more a soft reset, and
doesn't accomplish the same affect as a battery pull, which is more a
    hard reset.
Curious as to whom might be correct.

  • Z10 freezes, switches off, requires battery pull

I have had my Z10 since July.  Initially every 3-4 days it would not respond and require a battery pull to start working.  After all the updates this has become frequent.  Now the machine locks up 3-4 times a day.
    Any suggestions!

What is happening is that your on-device battery meter is off-sync with the actual battery charge.
Connect to your OEM wall outlet battery charger and while still connected and powered on, remove the battery a minute to reboot. After reboot leave to fully charge to 100%.
This will reset the false charge reading. You may need to do perform this procedure 2-3 times.

  • Z10 Phone Ring Going Silent Until Battery Pull, and Sometimes Loosing Its Knowing Its ID Information

I had a number of instances where the phone would no longer ring. No ring, or notifications have been modified.
The temporay fix is to do a battery pull and allow a full reset.
I found this happens sometimes after installing and then uninstalling a downloaded program from Blackberry World formerly known as App World.  I also noticed this issue sometimes happening after updates have been installed.
The unfortunate part of this is if the Bluetooth earphone is not being used calls will be missed because the phone will be silent. I found there was no ring because I had messages and callers displayed during periods where I should have heard the phone ringing.
I also had issues where the phone lost the capability for it to know its ID. In this case the backup, or restore, and downloads will not respond. The fix is a battery pull.
I had one time where the battery pull did not fix it. I had to re-install the OS for the phone to become normal again.
    Jerry G.

Personally, I think this is a super deluxe great phone. I like everything about the Z10 from a user point of view. We have a number of these Z10 phones and love them. When the Q10 comes out, we may get a few to use as keyboard phones.
I am thinking the OS was not exactly ready for release. There are some important missing issues and bugs that I have been running in to. I cannot see during testing that these bugs did not come out because there are many users who are having them.

If you have all your music on the cmputer then i would connect up my phone uncheck the Sync Music option and apply.
This should take all the music off your phone .Then you can resync the music back on to it.
If this doesn't work maybe a restore to factory settings and start from scratch is the way to go

  • Battery Pull - When, Why, and How

An *excellent* article on the when, why, and how of doing battery pulls on your BlackBerry.  It's recommended many times on these boards to fix a multitude of problems because it WORKS!  Here's why:
    http://crackberry.com/blackberry-101-battery-pulls-when-why-and-how
And if you don't want to click the link, here are a few of the highlights:
Maybe [your BlackBerry] is not working as fast as before, the internet is stalled, or application memory is gone and nothing has been added. Is it possessed? Do you want to hurl it against the wall?
Before exchanging the device or panicking that it’s broken, know this. It’s normal; from time to time, your device might become slow and unresponsive. There is a quick and simple way to troubleshoot these issues. In these cases, it’s necessary to reset your BlackBerry device by performing a hard or soft reset. A hard reset is also called a battery pull.
Essentially, a battery pull restarts the operating system on your BlackBerry device and is just like rebooting your PC when it’s experiencing problems. It is not the same as using the Pwr Off/On button. This only places the phone in standby mode. Not only does a battery pull solve various problems with your device, it also frees up application memory and shuts down applications running in the background that can drain battery and resources.
A battery pull can help when:
    Hardware Problems
    Device display freezes or jerks
Torch/Storm devices lag when going from Portrait to Landscape and vice versa
Keypad/Trackball stops responding or does not work
    SIM card errors
    Software Problems
Java code or module errors appear on screen (e.g. Uncaught exception)
Applications are slow, unresponsive, do not load or lag
    Theme issues
Bluetooth errors – connecting, pairing, etc.
    Installing/Uninstalling Applications & Theme)
Music streaming apps (Slacker, Pandora) experience continuous buffering
Social networking apps (Twitter/Facebook) indicate there is no connection available
Memory leak – available application memory drops
LED Notification - LED keeps flashing when there are no new e-mails, texts, alarms, etc.
Maybe you don't WANT to physically remove the battery; I know I don't like removing the protective case repeatedly to take the battery out of the phone.  Thankfully, there are third party "apps" that simulate a battery pull that you can download from BB App World. I use QuickPull by Steelhorn Software (free); it will reboot your device on a schedule you set, or you can do it manually as needed.  A+ Reset ($2.99 after free trial), deReset ($5.99), Restart Me (free) are other options, all available through BB App World.
HTH someone...your BlackBerry can do a lot for you, but you do need to do some caretaking and maintenance.
