Daily vs Monthly Depreciation

We have had a request from India to configure Depreciation so that it calculates depreciation on a daily basis opposed to a monthly basis, could you please tell me where I can configure this setting in SAP

Hi,
Actually there is no such statutory requirement for posting depreciation on a daily basis.
What I could understand from your query is that the depreciation should be calculated based on no of days basis and not month basis.
The system actually calculates the depreciation on no of days basis.. you can check the depreciation for any asset in AW01N on the Posted Values Tab, you can check the depreciation amount for each month.. It differs based on the no of days in that month.
Of course, one can have depreciation from the date of acquisition and till the date of sale, which is configured in period intervals.

Not full month depreciation

Dear SAP Experts,
We have a need to calculate the fixed assets depreciation - not for the full month, but just the last 3 weeks of it.
For example, we post the APC as of 01/07/11. We need to depreciate our fixed assets from 01/08/11 to 01/31/11 only instead of posting the full-month depreciation amounts. The depreciation for January 2011 should be:
monthly depreciation amount/31 days in the month * 24 days (from 01/08/11 to 01/31/11 )
The remaining depreciation periods should be the full amount based on the depreciation key and useful life.
This is a one-time requirement and I was wondering what the easiest and automated way of doing it in FI-AA is.
Please advise.

Thank you for your prompt response.
Our company is going public and we have to post the fair market value of fixed assets to reflect the purchase accounting entries at a date which falls on e.g. 01/07/11. That's why we need to calculate the 3/4 of the monthly depreciation rate.
If we cannot switch from daily to monthly depreciation back and forth, is posting the depreciation for the first week of month back manually the only solution for us? Or is there any better (or more SAP standard) way of doing that?

Can't see monthly depreciation in a non-posting depr area

Hi Folks,
Is there any report where I can see monthly depreciation based on a non-posting depreciation area?
Althought I found out many reports that show accumulated depreciation, I couldn't find one to see month-to-month depreciation fee.
The S_ALR_87012936 report has 2 problems: 1st - It shows only 5 periods; 2sd - it shows wrong values to my non-posting depreciation area.

S_ALR_87012936 report would be perfect if I could see more than 5 monthes. I don't know, but I'm able to see only from Jan to May in the monthly view. Is there a way to see ahead?
All others reports only show Accumulated Depreciation, not monthly.
If I ask for 31.12.2010, I will take only the Year Depreciation and not December-2010 depreciation.
Any tip?

Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Yearly Backups & Tapes Pooling

We are running number of servers, and have recently migrated from HP Data Protector to System Center DPM 2012 SP1. I am facing two issues here in which the potential solution is requested. I have created one Protection Group with 1 week retention for Daily
Backup. Different selections or sources are part of this protection group from different servers.
1. The issue # 1, is that when I wanted to create more Protection Groups for Weekly, Monthly and Yearly Tape Backups, then I could not select those volumes which are already part of Protection Group that I created for the Daily Backup (probably due to the
reason that same data source can't be part of multiple protection groups). The data source selection will repeat in all protection groups, so please advise how can I achieve daily, weekly, monthly and yearly backups?
2. Can I restrict some specific tapes (by allocating through bar codes) to each protection group so that only specific tapes will be used for daily, weekly, monthly and yearly backup? This way the offsite tape movement will also be achieved.
Need solution on both issues. Please help.

For item 1. use following PG settings.
1) In the protection group, select short term tape and long term protection.
2) Select daily, only full backup, or Full plus incremental based on your needs.
3) For the long term goals, select weekly, monthly, and yearly.
For item 2. - there is no provision in DPM to specify certain tapes for each goal, but if you create a colocation PGset, you can specify how long to write to a tape and control if different goals use the same tapes or not by adjusting expiry tolerance.

IMy client needs daily/weekly/monthly production reports with graphical representation. I want to know in acase there are any standard reports which will be a work around solution for the above said reports.

Yes, COOIS : Order informaton system, it self gives graphical representation for production reports.
Go to COOIS - execute as per required date, to get grafical representation select the coloumns you required, e.g. Production order, target qty, Confirmed Qty, Delivered Qty, Scrap Qty, etc and the click on "Display Grafic" tab, it will show you grafical report.

How can i re-automate/re-enable the daily, weekly, & monthly 'tasks'

some time ago i was having trouble burning a home video with imovie. one of the suggested remedies was to disable the overnight cleaning up tasks, which i did. however, i'd now like to reset this so that these tasks are once again automated whilst i sleep (currently using MacJanitor).
but i cannot for the life of me work out how to do this. please help.

Open the application TextEdit. Under the TextEdit menu open the Preferences. Under the heading New Document Atributes select the Plain text radio button. Under the heading Default Plain Text Encodings select Unicode(UTF-8) in the drop down menu by Save:. Under the heading Saving check the box Overwrite read-only files. Put TextEdit into your Dock.
From the Finder > Go menu select Go to Folder... Type /etc in the dialog box and press return. Locate the file- crontab. Drag the file onto the TextEdit icon in your Dock. The file should open. Your crontab file probably looks like this:

You need to remove the # on the following three lines.

Save the file and you should be good to go.

What do you use to manage daily\weekly\monthly tasks?

I use Tasks (a clone of Astrid based on the source code) on Android which is synced to Google Tasks. Haven't really ever found anything that's a real replacement to Astrid since Yahoo killed it for no reason.

Hi,
There are lots of documents available on how to design a process chain. It is basically your requirement what is needed.
for eg.. You have a daily masterd ata loaded into BW from R/3 and then the transaction data. So we create a chain where in we create anothe meta chain (for Master data) and drag the option of Load IP ( give variant as ur IP name you have created for that Particluar master data) , same for texts and hierarchy, for hierarchy use save option after the hierarchy process. and then use a attribute change run proces step to activate the master data. and then create another meta chain that loads transactiond data. Normally you have a IP that loads data into ODS here from source system, so Use IP process for that , next a process step to activate the ODS data and then use another IP to send the data to a cube. If you have aggregates built on that cube, use roll up process to roll up the data.

Daily and Monthly Production Allocations

Does anyone out there have experience with using PRA for daily production allocations?
I know there are lots of companies using PRA for their monthly production allocations but I was hoping to get some feedback as to why companies have avoided doing their daily allocations in PRA. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
I am working on a project that is considering moving their daily and monthly allocation from TOW (Landmark Graphics) to SAP.

Instead of hard coding the HRS as 8 in PCR please try to read the hours from Info type 0007. Sample PCR is as below.
where EG-1 is intern
Z105-Time type
For permanent employee complete calculation will be based on the IT0008.

Retirement of asset result doc. does not include current month depreciation

While retirement of tangible fixed asset result document does not include current month depreciation. So it makes closing month procedure impossible.
So, what are the configuration have do now to include current month depreciation?

Monthly depreciation for areas that do not post

We have dpreciation areas for tax purposes that do not post to the GL. Is there any way to get SAP to store the monthly depreciation amounts so that we can extract it for other processing?

Use standard report S_ALR_87012936-Dpeeciation Simulation.
Click on All Selections button on the appilication tool bar, then you will be able to see more fields for selection in the selection screen.
Choose Evaluation Period as Month (depends on this selection system will show the output fields for selection in the change layout option after getting output.)
Give your desired depreciation area.
Once you got the output, check whether dep amount is showing for each month or not, if not go to change layout and choose fileds like DEP 01-XXXX, DEP 02-XXXX, and DEP 03-XXXx and so on. (Need to choose 12 fields/ months)
This will resolve your purpose.

Planned Monthly Depreciation

I need help understanding how the system has calculated the planned monthly depreciation for specific asset..
The asset has a Acq value of £5739.35, the useful life is 6 years. The first years depreciation is £1028.35 which ok. But its the way SAP has split by period that I need help understanding:
Period 8 = 685.35-
Period 9 = 86.00-
Period 10 = 85.00-
Period 11=86.00-
Period 12= 86.00-
I would have expected the total depreciation of 1028.35 to be split by the 12 periods therefore Period 8 should be 685.56- and the remaining £342.79 to be spit across the 4 remaining periods at £85.70 each. I checked transaction OAYO and company rounding is set to "arithmetic".

Thanks for your input, I understand the system is calculating tax for the current year but I need to understand what process the system is following to determine each monthly amount, for example the total depreciation for periods 9-12 is £343 I would have expected this to be split equally between the 4 periods but this is not the case, that's why I want see the calculation process behind these figures.

Asset monthly depreciation u2013 at acquisition month

We use monthly method at - depreciation periods,
At the acquisition month of an asset u2013 the first depreciation period is calculated for a whole month.
Is there an option of calculate the first month regarding the partial part the asset exists at this month?

If I understood you correctly. You male for example a aquisition in 23.0X and you want the depr. starts exactly on 23.0X ; right?
The existing period control methods are only period start date / mid-period / period end....
You can make daily depreciation, daily depreciation ignores the period control.
Perhaps note 1131960 offers a solution.

How to get a Monthly Depreciation Simulation for next fiscal year?

I need a report that give me the depreciation simulation for next fiscal year, but I need it monthly wise. I run report S_ALR_87012936 with report date 31.12.2011 and evaluation period = month.
The report gives the error message AA669 Fiscal year 2011 is already closed in Financial Accounting
I read that this report doesn't work monthly wise for future years. Is there a workarround?

I'm sorry there is only RASIMU02. Note 396974 describes, this is a missing functionality and there is no workaround.
Reports on derived depreciation areas that do not post any values to the
general ledger are allowed with the evaluation period year. An
evaluation using month, quarter or half-year is not supported.
In general, the depreciation forecasted by monthly in report RASIMU02 are only for depreciation area which posts depreciation to GL. For non-GL posting area, we recommend you simulate the depreciation
in 'fiscal year' mode. if you simulate the depreciation
Basically RASIMU02 is NOT designed to provide period simulation for these non posting areas. This because RASIMU02 uses for periods which have been posted already the created ANLP. But ANLP´s are not created for non-posting areas. So in these periods where a depreciation run had been executed already, RASIMU02 will not show
values.

Fixed Assets - Calc of monthly depreciation charge after GRIR clearing

Hi all,
For a particular asset in our company - this asset was to be written off in November 2005.
GRIR clearing was done on asset xxx in September and then reversed in the same month.
The net effect on the asset value was zero but this caused SAP to recalculate the depreciation charge from the start of the year. It appears to have ignored the reversal and wants to write back amount x(months Jan to Aug) and charge amount y(chg for Sep). Also for some reason this has appeared in November and not September, the month of posting the GRIR clearing.
The asset in question should have reached the end of it's useful life in November but the re-calculation of depreciation would have resulted in depreciation being charged for a further 7 months in 2006. The manual work around was to change the depreciation key to xxxx to force SAP to calculate the "expected" charge for November. This has worked in this particular instance but is not ideal, running depreciation run again is not the solution to this type of problem.
User wants to know if using the MR11 transaction (GRIR reversal for PO)will always cause SAP to re-calculate depreciation from the start of the year.
Sorry for long post - have tried to give as many details as possible.
