Daisy Chain and Branching cp 4

Is it possible to use the daisy chain approach and maintain branching that has been created in a lesson? I have dependancies that have been broken when I broke my large lesson file into 4 smaller lessons. If it isn't possible, does anyone have a good work-around?
Thanks

    Yes.
Normally you would buy a hardware RAID5 solution like the Promise Pegasus R4 or the Drobo 5D however recently some new software has been released for the Mac to allow creating RAID5 software RAIDs. See http://www.softraid.com
Apple's own Disk Utility cannot create RAID5 software RAIDs.

  • Linking projects/daisy chaining and reporting to an LMS

    Can anyone help please?
I am new to Captivate and LMS's and so far, have self-taught and read books and lots and lots of web pages for help and information - information overload!
    My problem is this:
I have a large project (146 slides) which, having read advice, I have tested by breaking into smaller projects. I have Module 1 which is the learning phase for the user, some questions included, but these do not need to report to the LMS. I then have the Test module in a second Cp project - a selection of 20 questions which are pulled from a question pool. These DO need to report to the LMS.
At the end of Module one, users can opt to either take the test now or later. The user has an option to exit the module and take the test later (close the project - expecting them to be redirected back to this page by the LMS when they open the project again!) or click a button which will open up the Test module. The button to open the Test module has been set to link to the Test Cp project.
I've tested this so far by publishing both as EXE files and running through the whole module - it all links in fine and I move from one Cp project to another without issue. However, now I am scratching my head about how to publish as Flash files in order for the reporting to work, particularly as there are 2 Cp projects.
I have looked at the Aggregator function but don't think this is the right route because it automatically adds a TOC and I don't want one (unless someone can tell me how to switch this off in Aggregator..?!)
I have also looked at using the SCORM Packager, which seems to be the route people are indicating for muliple SCO's published to an LMS.
    Here's what I have done.
Enabled Quiz Reporting for both projects and set up preferences accordingly.
Published Module 1 as a zipped SWF (all files - Manifest.XML etc created ok)
Published Test as zipped SWF - ditto above.
Run the SCORM Packager and added the 2 zipped files above to create one zipped file.
Rightly or wrongly, I have unzipped the 'new' combined project, located the HTM file for the first module and run it in Internet Explorer. Whilst this runs ok, on coming to the last screen to link to the Test, it falls over saying it can't find the file. It is looking for the HTM file in the directory where the original .Cp project is stored. There is no HTM file created here - just the original Cp file.
What am I doing wrong? How do I get them to link correctly AND be able to package them up?
I can't test this on an LMS as I don't have access to one or to the client's LMS - I will simply be providing them with the zipped file which they will FTP to their LMS.
Any help would be appreciated as deadline is looming!
    Thanks in anticipation.

Raquel, have you tried the Reload Editor for setting up the manifest? Also, you may want to give ADL's Test Suite a shot for self-testing your package in an LMS-like RunTime Environment.
Now, it could be that I'm reading this wrong but it sounds to me like, when you say "There is no HTM file created here - just the original Cp file", there should be an html file there. If your button in the first module is scripted to launch a new html file in the same window, make sure you published the second module to include an HTM file. I'm assuming you mean "swf file" when you mentione "Cp file", right?
Reload also offers the SCORM 1.2 Player for testing your course in a RunTime Environment.
Feel free to reach out if you still have issues or need assistance in testing.

  • MacBook Pro, Daisy chaining, and Mercury Elite Drives?

I want to copy the content from 1 FW800 Mercury Elite mini drive to a new FW800 Mercury Elite mini drive.
Problem is that i dont have enough space on my MacBook Pro to copy to my internal drive
Can I literally connect the two externals together via my single fw800 slot?

Yup, connect one to the port on the laptop, and the other into the unused port on the back of the first drive. You will see both drives mount and can drag and drop amongst them.
Oh, but don't count on bus powering them as the firewire bus cannot handle that load, so I would actually use the DC power bricks with both drives just to be sure not to overload the firewire bus on the computer.

  • Can't daisy chain Thunderbolt 1 and 2 drives

I have a Mac Mini server (mid 2011) with a Pegasus R4 connected via Thunderbolt that has been running fine. The Mini is running Lion Server.
Just recently I got a Lacie 2big drive with Thunderbolt 2. I assumed that TB2 was backwards compatible so daisy chaining the Lacie to the Pegasus wouldn't be an issue. But when I do so, the Lacie doesn't mount and Disk Utility cannot see it.
However, if I connect the Lacie directly to the Mini it mounts and works fine. So then I tried connecting the Pegasus to the Lacie. But now the Pegasus doesn't mount and can't be seen by Disk Utility or Promise Utility.
So, is the problem trying to daisy chain TB1 and TB2 devices together? Or is it the Mini? Or is it Lion?
    Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks for the quick reply. The Pegasus is over 3 years old and I have never updated the firmware. I will do so.
However, I got everything to work. The one I thing I didn't try was rebooting with both drives daisy chained and turned on. This did it. I restarted many times but each time was with only one of the drives connected. Not sure why a reboot is necessary for the daisy chained device to be visible.

  • Problem with daisy chaining HDDs and Time Machine

I have purchased 2 WD My Passport Studio FireWire 2TB HDDs which I have daisy chained to my MacBook Pro.  One I have assigned to be the Time Machine backup the other as an additional data drive.  Both are formatted for Mac OS Extended (Journaled).  I setup Time Machine to backup both the internal and external drive.  When I set it up everything looked OK in Time Machine Preferences, but the daisy chained data drive displayed on the desktop with the Time Machine backup logo and the backup drive displayed as a standard FireWire data drive. However the backup worked successfully and backed everything up to the correct backup drive.
I have since established the following:
    1.  If both drives are daisy chained and then plugged in, the data drive shows up with the backup icon and the backup drive shows as a data drive, but Time Machine backs up to the correct drive.  This is the case regardless of what order the drives are daisy chained.
    2.  If the backup drive is plugged in on its own it shows up correctly with the backup drive icon.  If the data drive is then daisy chained to the backup drive both drives show up as backup drives.  Time Machine backs up to the correct backup drive.
    3. If the data drive is plugged in on its own it shows up incorrectly as the backup drive.  If the backup drive is then daisy chained to the data drive the backup drive shows as a normal FireWire data drive. But Time Machine still backs up to the correct drive.  Exactly the same as case 1 but the drives have been daisy chained after connecting to the MacBook Pro and the result is the same.
    4. However if the data drive is plugged in on its own, showing up as the backup drive, Time Machine backs up to the data drive incorrectly.
The first three points are just annoying as the drive icons do not display correctly, although it does indicate to me that Time Machine is confused.  But what I don't like is the fact that I can't just use the external data drive without the backup drive being present.
How do I overcome this problem?

Launch Disk Utility and select one of the volumes in question. Click the Info button in the toolbar. In the Information window that opens, note the Universal Unique Identifier. Do the same with the other volume. Are the identifiers the same?

  • Daisy chain two display port monitors (Dell U2913WM) to new Mac mini Thunderbolt?

Everything I read said that I could hook up a display port monitor to a Thunderbolt port on the mac mini.  I purchased two display port monitors (Dell U2913WM) that can be daisy chained, and hooked them up.  All I get is mirroring.  Does anyone know how to turn off mirroring with this setup?  I did not get the "uncheck mirroring" option in preferences until I hooked up the second via the HDMI port instead of a daisy chain.  The problem with that is, I cannot take advantage of the full resolution through the HDMI.  It seems I have wasted my money on two monitors.
    Looking for advice on:
    1) How to daisy chain these two Dell monitors to the mac mini and turn off mirroring and use an extended desktop, or
    2) How to take advantage of the full resolution through HDMI port?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

So re-reading this thread, I now realize you did exactly what I wanted to do but your issue was having a cloned vs. extended desktop. Oops!
I believe your "nothing plugged in" issue is the cable. I'm not sure that TB cables are backwards compatible with DP - I think it's only the ports. Do you see multiple monitors in "System Preferences > Displays" if you hook the monitors up like you described in your OP?
My Dell U2713H arrived today and it works like a charm with the supplied Mini-DP to DP cable. The built-in display on my 13" mid 2009 MBP still works if not in clamshell mode, although I will mostly use mine in my HengeDock. In the OSD of the monitor, you can access "Display Settings > Display Info" and it will show you the DP capability. Mine is only DP 1.1a and I believe to run 2 of these at full resolution you will need the bandwidth in DP 1.2 which includes MST (daisy-chaining). This could be your problem.
Can you access the same menu in your OSD and report back what your DP compatability is?
    Thanks!

  • Daisy chain two external drives via Firewire, then connect one via USB to the TC?

    Hi,
I have two external drives that have both Firewire and USB ports. My 1st generation 500 gb Time Capsule (maybe all of them?) only has USB ports so up til now, I have connected one or the other drive via USB. (I've tried to connect both to a powered USB hub but one drive has problems showing up. At this point I only use the one drive that shows up and connect it directly with no hub to the Time Capsue.)
My question is: Can I daisy chain the two drives via Firewire and then connect one of them (probably the one that has no problems connecting with USB) to the Time Capsule via USB?
    Second, somewhat-related problem...
I don't know why one drive isn't connecting very well when directly connected to the Time Capsule. Both are Fantom drives. One is a 1TB, the one that has prblems connecting is a 250GB. I've tried connecting directly or through a powered hub. The 1B has no problems, the 250 gb won't show up most of the time and disconnects itself fairly quickly if it does connect. I've switched cables; that hasn't helped. The 1TB stays connected most of the time but sometimes it disconnects too. I suspect the Time Capsule just isn't able to deal with external drives so I don't puch it. It would be nice to be able to have both drives accessable through the TC though.
    Thanks for any help.
    Cheers,
    John

Doing some experimentation, connecting the drives directly to the MBP:
    - Neither of the two drives Firewire daisy-chained and going through the powered USB hub connected to the MBP mount. I was using old aliases on desktop.*They don't show up on network otherwise. (Each drive self-mounts with both Firewire and USB direct connections.)
*Even after making new aliases, neither drive will mount using their new aliases when directly connected (not through hub) with USB or Firewire (and Thunderbolt adapter.) That's weird.
    - Both the 240 gb and the 1TB drives going through powered hub connected to MBP mount by themselves.
    - Two drives daisy-chained via Firewire and one drive connected to the MBP via Firewire (and Thunderbolt adapter) self-mount. No surprise there but that doesn't help me as I want to have the drives further away from the MBP and connected to the Time Capsule, which doesn't have a Firewire port anyway...
    - All of the USB and the Firewire cables work as does the Thunderbolt adapter. I tested them.
I wonder.... I have a Firewire to what appears to be an Ethernet connector. I wonder if that would be any good. I'm afraid to try it though...

  • Thunderbolt Daisy Chain

    Hi,
I've searched all over the internet for a thunderbolt to gigabit ethernet adapter that also allows for daisy-chaining and connect another thunderbolt/mini-diplayport adapter, but it seems that such doesn't exist... Does anyone know of one that I can buy?
    Best regards!

FWIW, STAE129 is the current version TB adapter
that is self powered and has TB daisy chain port.
STAE122 and STAE127 are older versions and
not the current model, though there may be stock of
these around.  As to whether this will solve your issue,
    I don't know.
Can I trick the Mac under Bootcamp as OS to use HDMI for the monitor? Dell officially says that the monitor can only accept 1900x1080 over HDMI, but some have fiddled wth different computers with custom settings that worked with some Monitors but mostly under Linux and to Dell 2711.
The MacMini HDMI port is hardware limited to 1980x1200.

  • How to daisy chain thunderbolt devices with only one port

I am using a macbook pro with one thunderbolt port. Quite a few thunderbolt devices have only a single thunderbolt port (don't support daisy chaining).
Does anyone know of a thuderbolt hub that adds additional thunderbolt ports?
If such a product does not yet exist, is it at least technically possible?
    Thanks!

    (1) Thunderbolt does support daisy chaining up to 6 devices to the MBP's port (with some limitations). See

    (2) Note that daisy chain and hub are not the same. However, my understanding is that, in principle, a Thunderbolt hub is feasible. I'm not aware if such a device is already on the market. I guess that whether or not Thunderbolt hubs will be eventually available depends on the demand.

  • Unusual behaviours since daisy chaining a new external hd

    Hi
my mac has worked flawlessly since i got it over 3 & 1/2 years ago.
I added a new external hd by daisy chain fire wire last week & suddenly
odd behaviours are occuring for the first time ever all in the space of a week.
    1. Frozen mouse - unable to use the pointer - fixed by un/re pluging mouse.
    2. corrupted finder icons one or two - fixed by re-starting.
    3. external hd icon unmounting when i do an action in a running app,
eg: turned a page in acrobat reader - fixed by restarting external hd.
    4. put to sleep manually - black screen but computor & external hds still
'not asleep' - couldnt get the desk top screen to appear - fixed by re
    booting with external side button.
A sense of things coming abit undone !
I want to trouble shoot this before it gets out of hand & i want to avoid causing any damage to my internal hardware.
Could anyone provide me with some kind of diagnosis & insight ?
    thanks
    d

    hi
okay - in response to posts so far......
    1. i havent used it yet with fcp
    2. it is running off its own power supply, not off the fire wire cable.
    3. i am not using any hub - its daisyed into the first external hd which is then
linked to the emac by fire wire. The chain is firewire 400 cable in all
    instances.
Both external hds have their own seperate power supply .
    JMVP WROTE:
"....This is especially true if the daisy-chained drive is drawing power through the Firewire cable. Daisy-chaining data through independently-powered drives is known to be iffy."
So what you're suggesting is daisychaining par-se is a no no.
Both in the case of the device powered via the firewire
cable AND if it's independantly powered.
Does this mean DAISY = DANGER ?
The verdict so far is that i should abandon daisy chains and switch to fire wire hubs....or direct seperate inputs into the emac.........
Aside from a debate about the pros & cons of the Daisy.........
i'm open to other trouble shooting lines of thought to my situation.
    thanks

  • Daisy chaining firewire problems

Hello. So i'm working on a project where the client has 15 4TB firewire drives filled with footage. I've been working with all of them daisy chained together. As you can probably guess, this is causing some issues. Some days I can come in and work for hours and have no crashes. some days, like today, it's hard to even get all 15 drives to mount without the firewire bus crashing and all of the drives unmounting. It's been getting shorter and shorter between crashing episdoes.
They have 7 Lacies, 6 WD's and 2 G-techs. I'm wondering if anyone knows a) if there's an optimal order to put these drives in based on manufacturer, b) if a firewire hub would be any help in this situation, c) any other solutions that wouldn't cost much that could help to make it run more smoothly.
This happens whether it's on a Mac Pro tower (latest Snow Leopard update) or on my MBP 17" (10.5.8)
Anybody done work with lots of drives daisy chained or know any other ways to work with this stuff? thank you...

It's not the same problem and it's not a Firewire issue. You have too much data and too many signals for a single FW bus to handle which is why we recommend editing on the big Macs for anything beyond DV-size codecs. You cannot add an additional FW bus to the iMac.

  • Aggregator vs. daisy chain for Captivate 4?

    Hello,
I am new to Captivate and I am using Captivate 4.  I have a large project that I am developing (over 100 slides with audio/video included).  I have read about daisy chaining and use of the aggregator.  Am I understanding it correctly that the aggregator is just a formalized daisy chaining tool?   I am wondering which approach to use (aggregator vs daisy chaining the old fashioned way), and if I should just go ahead and create separate project "chapters" using rule of thumb project size & then just combine them.  Or, should I just create the entire project and break it up later either for daisy chaining or the aggregator.  Thanks in advance for any help.

    hi
    help please,really appreciate it /
    editing with final cut pro
i am on a big job which keeps growing so far we have 4 lacie terrabyte hard drives all daisy chained and we are constantly adding another to transfer files,
i am now having reliability problems ,where the computer wont see them, some work others dont,
i go through array of disconnecting rearanging them ,off/on etc, eventually i get them working, but its very stressful
can anyone suggest the way i should do it or point me in the right direction,
should i get some firewire 800 hub ? or is there a limit to how many you can use?
(the boss says a server will be coming)
    cheers
    simon

    Hi startchopin-
As DaddyPaycheck said, a hub is the best way to go. Not only are there reliability problems, as you're experiencing, daisy chaining hard drives also increases the chance of data recording/directing errors.
A good hub, (only three ports, seems to be the max) but reliable, is the Belkin, available from the Mac specialists at OWC:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/BELKIN/F5U624APL/
You can find comparison pricing here:

Might I also suggest, that since you are running the drives hard, with lots of data transfer, etc., preventive maintenance with a solid drive utility, such as Disk Warrior, would help to decrease stress levels, and maintain drive and data integrity:

  • Daisy chaining using a MacBook Pro

If my MacBook Pro has a FireWire 800, AC powered hard drive attached, how should I connect another Mercury Elite FW 800 drive to the AC powered external drive, with an additional AC or just by FireWire?
In other words, if the first drive in the chain (the one connected to the MacBook Pro) has AC power, does the second drive in the chain (connected to the first external drive) need AC power?
Any cautions so I do not burn out my computer?

Since you have an AC adapter connected to the first device one of two things would happen.
If the second drive/device is supposedly powered by the FW port it would either work or not. Work if the pass-through (daisy chain) port passed power through to the other device and not work if it didn't.
But then that all depends on whether or not the Mac does supply enough power to power the device and whether the first device is using any of that power even though it has it own AC adapter.
After replying to your OP I did some checking as I am not that familiar with the workings of FW. It seems that FW does, or is supposed to, provide power. But as with everything sometimes the implementation of those specs are not fully followed on notebook computers and that is to be expected on portable computer that have limited power resources, even when connected to an AC outlet.
So the only way to find out is to connect it and see if it works.
You could reverse the daisy chain and place the FW powered device first then the device that has its own AC adapter. That is if the FW powered device has a second FW port.
    Good Luck
