Daisy Chained Projects Mixed Action Script

Will it cause problems if one project is in AC2 and is linked to another project in AC3? I am asking because all of my projects are AC2 except for one because it has to be in AC3.
I converted the project to AC3 and the link button from one chapter to the next no longer functions properly. It worked fine when it was an AC2 captivate export.

Based on the MXI-Express datasheet and the MXI-4 Series User Manual "The PCI specification makes provisions for up to 255 bus segments to simultaneously exist in a PCI hierarchy and MXI-4 hardware provides everything needed to support those provisions."

Daisy Chaining Projects in captivate 4 - Can anyone help me?????

I'm at my wits end. I have three projects that I want to seemlessly run back to back, a to b to c then stop. I have done the Edit>Preferences>Project> Start and End, Project End options - Action = Open other project, Project name for both project a & b; published the SWF w/export HTML in Flash Player 8 for all of them to the same folder; and here are my issues: 1: when i click the html file for project a: nothing runs (this could be something else, but still....:(( ) Then, just to be sane, I republished project a, and clicked ok to the view project message. I only get to view project a. no linking/daisy chain/etc.
what the hades am I doing wrong??? oh, btw, I working on a locked down pc so I can't upload the patch... and need a workaround if it's a patch thing.

Just a thought here but if you want to daisy chain your projects, have you considered using the Aggregator? To do this you would simply publish SWF files A,B and C, create a new Aggregator project, add the three SWF files and then publish the entire project. Once published you would then get a new SWF and web page. Double-clicking new HTML file would then load the three SWFs into a SWF wrapper.

Can You Daisy Chain Firewire 400 and 800 Mixed?

I would like to purchase an External Drive. I'm looking at a FW800. What I'm wondering is, Can I daisy chain devices mixed in.
I Want to run a FW800 Bilingual cable from my Powerbook to the External Enclosure. From the Ext. Enclosure, I'd like to have take my second FW800 port and take a cable that converts Firewire 800 to Firewire 400 and plug in another item. Is this possible?
Can I mix and match FW devices using separate protocol in a daisy chain configuration?

Yes, it is possible. I have a drive that works on FW800, FW400, or USB2. Connected to the second FW800 port on that, I have an adaptor cable, a FW400 cable to a FW400 drive, and another FW400 drive connected to that . All 3 drives are on the desktop of my PowerBook. When I read your post, I had the only first drive connected to the iBook with USB2.
The only problem I've run into was trying to copy a 200G drive on FW800 to a 250G drive on the FW400 port on the PowerBook. Working overnight, it managed to copy ONE Gigabyte! I hooked them up as they are now, and copied the whole shebang in about 45 minutes
I picked up an empty drive case, 800/400/USB2 combo from OWC and a 250G Maxtor drive at CompUSA for about $100 less than I could get a 250 FW800 drive anyplace. http://www.macsales.com

Using mx components in Action Script project in Flash Builder

I have created an Action Script project in flash builder 4 and want to use a mx.controls.button.
The as file looks like this:

I have added C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4\sdks\4.0.0\frameworks\projects\framework\src as a Source Path in the project settings. I have also added framework.swc to the library path.
I still get errors like :

Unable to resolve resource bundle "core" for locale "en_US".    as_test_project        Unknown    Flex Problem
Have then tried added various Bundles folders like
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4\sdks\4.0.0\frameworks\projects\framework\bundles
to the source path and library path, but I still get the errors.
WHAT IS THE CORRECT WAY OF USING MX COMPONENTS IN A PURE ACTION SCRIPT PROJECT ?
If I want to use th fl.controls componets instead but dont have CS3 where can I download them ?

Probably heard before..Daisy Chained Presonus Firepods...no meters on mixer

I have two presonus firepods daisy chained together, made the aggregate device and everything and in Logic I have 20 ins and 20 outs and running 44.1 and 16 bit. Problem i'm having now is that when using that device in logic pro the meters have no readings in logic on the mixer for the channel strips so basically looks like theres no signal to the channel strips...I've tried looking around to see what it is, it's probably something simple but just can't seem to find it, something I have setup wrong in the AMS? It's hard to try to record a full piece band when I can't see metering on the channel strips to get signal into them to see how hot it is haha...any advice would be helpful!! Thank you very much!! You don't need to, no. Unless it is what you actually want. But you should be able to select the AggDev as input, and one of the units +on their own+ or the built in audio even) as output in Logics' Audio Prefs. They should all be selectable in the I/O device dropdown menu there.

Daisy Chain FW800 & FW400 Mixed

My current setup is:
iMac FW400 port --> LaCie d2 DVD burner
iMac FW800 port -->LaCie 1Tb D2 Quadra --> LaCie 1Tb D2 Quadra
None of the drives are bus powered.
If I upgrade the iMac I will lose the FW400 port. If I keep the external drives my setup would be:
iMac FW800 port --> LaCie 1Tb D2 Quadra -- > LaCie 1Tb D2 Quadra --> LaCie D2 DVD burner
Is the following correct:
1. If the LaCie D2 DVD is connected but turned OFF the daisy chained hard drives will still achieve FW800 throughput.
2. If the LaCie D2 DVD is connected and turned ON the entire daisy cain through put will drop to FW400 speeds.

It is my understanding that the speed of communication between two devices on the chain is dependent on the slowest link between the two devices. If all of your other devices are FW800 except for the one on the end, they will be at FW800 regardless of the on/off state of the FW400 device on the end.

Daisy chaining mixed connectivity drives

I have an iBook (OS X 10.5.8 Leopard) with 2 USB 2.0 ports and a Firewire 400 port. The USB ports are in use, as is a hub plugged in one of them. I have a CalDigit AV drive connected to the iBook via a Firewire 400 - Firewire 800 cable. The drive also has an additional Firewire 800 port and a USB 3.0 port.
I'm wondering if a USB 3.0 drive can be daisy chained to the CalDigit drive through the USB 3.0 port, even if it is connected to the computer via Firewire 400. If this is possible, I realize I would only get Firewire 400 speed, which is okay.
Or do I need to find another Firewire drive to daisy chain?

For the most part, these drives with USB and FW don't share to the other;
the intent was to allow either one or the other. FW for older Macs that may
be able to boot from a HDD (with oxford chipset) or USB2.0/3.0 for storage
or for newer Intel Macs that may boot a clone from USB. However a Mac
could use FW or USB when both are available, separately to boot clones
if the computer hardware supports both. And if the external HD does.
Depending on the circuitry in the external enclosure, are the possibilities.
A logic circuit and extra cost, may allow the ports to share data across
the two separately supported channels. Lacking that, most can't do it.
Usually that is because they are like different frequencies, no converter.
However you could try. Or contact the maker, to see if you get a reply,
then share that information along with enclosure brand/model number.
That may be curious, conditional, if it were to work at all with one setup.

How Do I Stop Aggregator from Daisy Chaining My Movies?

Aggregator's default configuration shows all the movies in a project back to back (daisy chaining),but I want the user to be able to control the navigation. How do I stop Aggregator from doing that? There don't seem to be any configuration options in Aggregator itself, so I assume that each project must be configured separately in Captivate. If that's the case, and if there's a solution to this problem, what configuration setting or settings need to be set in the projects before they're imported into Aggregator?

Indeed it would appear that Aggregator simply consecutively plays through the listed movies in order. This seems to occur regardless of how you have specified each individual project as far as the Start and End actions.
One way past it is to ensure you insert a Click Box or Button object on the last slide of each of the Captivate projects that are part of the Aggregator. By adding the Click Box or the Button the project should just remain paused until some other interaction causes the playhead to resume.

How do I use the button states in an action script?

In my Captivate 8 project I use smart shape as buttons. The buttons have different images presented dependent on the state of the button. I have also created a simple action script that shows what happens when the button is pressed. When the button has been pressed the normal state of the button appear. I, however, want the down state of the button to remain visible util the user presses another button. How do I accomplish this? Is there variables for the buttons different state or how can I create that?

When you talk about 'actionscript' do you mean advanced or shared actions? You cannot write actionscript within Captivate, only Javascript. If you use advanced/shared actions they'll be converted on runtime to either Actionscript (for SWF output) or Javascript (for HTML5 output).
The states in shape buttons are the normal way buttons behave (not only in Flash). If you are indeed using shared/advanced actions, and you want the down state to remain until the next shape button is clicked, you'll have to go the way described by iFlashAppsToo. Create shapes that have the look of the down state, make them initially invisible and group all those shapes on one slide. Add two statements to the shared/advanced action (please do use shared actions, you'll save time):
Hide Group so that eventual down mimicked states on previously clicked buttons disappear
Show Im_Downx to show the down image for that button

How many FW devices can you daisy chain?

Have a new iMac w/ one FW800 port. Need to daisy chain eight FW800 hard drives, two FW400 hard drives, and one FW400 DigiDesign Digi002 ProTools mixing board. I was planning on daisy chaining all the FW800 drives then coming out of the last of those with a FW800 to FW400 cable into the first FW400 drive, daisy chaining to the 2nd FW400 drive, then daisy chain from it into the FW400 ProTools mixing board. I know that's a lot of chaining but at the moment those are the devices I have to work with. I have A LOT of video and audio information I need to retain. Seems to me that I read somewhere about a maximum length a firewire daisy chain could be but haven't found any more reference to it when I just looked. All of the devices have their own power supplies so I don't believe they will be drawing much, if any power from the chain. Anybody know of any problems with this setup?

I've tried several scenarios and combinations what I've found is that I can put all the FW800 drives in a daisy chain then put the 1st FW400 drive in and lastly the Digi002 mixing board (which is FW400). When I try to add to this any more drives I get unpredictable results. I have therefore bough another 2TB external drive and hooked it up through USB 2.0 and copied many files to it from the older FW400 drives as well as the only FW800 drive that ever game me headaches. It should be noted that it is a Western Digital My Book drive. It seems like it would be a great drive having FW800, FW400, and USB 2.0 connections. In practice, however, I have had LOTS of problems both on my Macs and PCs I tried using it on. I recommend strongly that you avoid using any MY Book drives. I'm having better luck with practically any other manufacturer, including what I would normally consider no names like SimpleTech and Buffalo. Those drives seem much more stable.

Is it better to daisy chain an apogee duet and external hdd or...

...setup an audio interface and external hdd to two separate bus ports? I ask because I going to be purchasing gear to set up my first home recording studio and I am torn between the MacBook Pro 15" and 17". The 17" comes with an Express Card slot (which I could use to utilize more bus ports), but is less portable and a little more expensive. The 15" is ideal in size, but lacks two firewire ports and Express Card possibilities. I know firewire is a must for a 7200 rpm external drive, but I have read very negative reviews about USB powered audio interfaces. Is daisy chaining a good idea? Are USB as bad as I've come to understand in terms of clarity and quality? Is the 17" my best option? I am looking at a starter's interface, like an Apogee Duet. The new Apogee One looks intriguing, but again, it is USB.

+1 for daisy-chaining Duet to Glyph. For audio work the 17" is the best option these days. The ExpressCard slot is invaluable for using Universal Audio plugins or powering an additional firewire device above and beyond the audio interface/hard drive, such as the Focusrite Liquid Mix.

Can I daisy-chain a G-RAID Pro 2TB with a bunch of other G-RAID's?

I'm wondering if there would be any issues adding a G-RAID Pro into my current daisy-chained G-RAID configuration.
- I've got seven 500GB G-RAID's all daisy-chained together and running into my G5.
- Two of my 500GB G-RAID's are RAIDed together so the first one is connected to the onboard Firewire 800 port of my G5 and the other to my additional Firewire PCI card.
- The remaining 5 drives are daisy-chained into the drive that is connected to the onboard FW 800.
This hasn't posed a problem thus far, but I'm wondering if adding a whole new G-RAID Pro is possible with this configuration, or if there's anything I should know before I decide. I left a message for the tech department at G-Tech but they're so busy over there I figured I check in here.
I'm thinking about getting the G-RAID Pro 2 TB because I have 2 projects coming up for which I'll need a whole lot more space than I currently have. If anybody has any other hard drive suggestions I'd be open to them as well, of course.

Jerry, did you see my post the other day? I don't know if there is a conflict or not, but I've had some serious firewire problems for the last year and just last weekend I was unable to access any media files that were on a lacie for a specific project. And when I tried to copy the files (after closing fcp and running diskwarrior on the drive), I kept getting error messages. When I came in the next day and started the system with the graids disconnected, the lacie performed perfectly. Seems like there might be some sort of conflict. Or just a weird one time occurence. But since I've been having all sorts of weird inconsistent problems with firewire drives and I did have a mixture of lacie and gtech drives my instinct says it might be the source of the problem. I just installed a burly 5 bay sata enclosure, so my need for firewire drives, except for sneakernet, is over.
I post this kind of stuff with the hope that if someone is experiencing weird firewire behavior, they can try to eliminate at least this possible cause.

Here at Combat Films and Research we have been working on a project over the last 10 months and it has been growing steadily.
We are shooting HD and the files are obviously quite large. We now have the project spread over 5, 1TB Lacie hard drives. Furthermore, they are of two different versions. Two have the concave blue button and no powers witch on the back. The other three have the convex blue button and a power switch on the back.
When we have more than one drive hooked up the write speed drops from 44MB/s to 15MB/s (ish). Regardless if we hook on the the front bus and the other to the rear or any other way to combine them.
Does anyone have any answers for this or even better, solutions to the problem?
