Daisy chaining the WRE54G

I have daisy chained 4 WRE54G units onto a Linksys ADSL modem and this works (albeit slowly as one would expect but it's only for web broswing), but there is no evident way to statically specify the MAC address of neigbouring devices in the web interface. Is there any way to do this? I don't want to have to cable the wireless RE's together! Thanks in advance.

yes , it is posible...all you have to do is make the wireless settings identical on all the wireless devices ( i.e REs and adsl modem ).....also , assign different ip address to each of the RE ...

    Hall Palm Desert,
if your Mac monitor has Thunderbolt ports, and the PC monitor is on the end of the daisy chain, then you might be able to do it by connecting your PC monitor’s VGA cable to a Mini DisplayPort-to-VGA adapter (e.g. Apple, NewerTech), connecting that cable’s Mini DisplayPort end to one of the Mac monitor’s Thunderbolt ports, and then connecting a Thunderbolt cable between the other port on the Mac monitor and your MacBook Pro.

  • Can you Daisy Chain the WRT54GS?

    Hello,
I've recently purchased three LInksys WRT54GS. I've read the FAQ but not seen my exact problem listed.
Can the WRT54GS (the super G version) be Daisy Chained (1 router, 2 as APs with dhcp disabled) and if so which port should link to from router #1, port1 or the "internet" port.
If I use the port marked "internet" than I get great signal strength but a lot of drops. However if I use port1 on each of the routers I'm using as AP's then I get low signal strength but less drops.
    Configuration so far:
    router-1 (dhcp enabled)
    ssid - router1
    channel 1
    192.168.1.1 /255.255.255.0
    router - 2 (dhcp disabled)
    ssid - router2
    channel 6
    192.168.1.2 /255.255.255.0
    router -3 (dhcp disabled)
    ssid - router3
    channel 11
    192.168.1.3 /255.255.255.0
    thank you for the help!

These answers are incomplete oin their face:
    You described the config as:
    router -3 (dhcp disabled)
    ssid - router3
    channel 11
    192.168.1.3 /255.255.255.0
which tells nothing about the "WAN and LAN addresses cannot be the same"
The "Local IP" address cannot be the same as the Internet (WAN) address
    "Internet Setup" or "Netword Setup"?
It is as if you have never looked at the config screens in this router.
How is your local PC connected to the second router supposed to get the DHCP address when there is no route to the first router? Then, how can you connect to the second router to configure the route? I set a static IP for my PC and I can connect to the second router, but even after setting a route, which cannot have a 0.0.0.0 gateway, cannot ping the first router.
Let's tell the whole story here, the complete configuration. It's a simple expectation to have a second router hard-wired to the first router, and the secod router providing "distant" wireless access to the network.
    The whole story folks?

  • Daisy chain two external drives via Firewire, then connect one via USB to the TC?

    Hi,
I have two external drives that have both Firewire and USB ports. My 1st generation 500 gb Time Capsule (maybe all of them?) only has USB ports so up til now, I have connected one or the other drive via USB. (I've tried to connect both to a powered USB hub but one drive has problems showing up. At this point I only use the one drive that shows up and connect it directly with no hub to the Time Capsue.)
My question is: Can I daisy chain the two drives via Firewire and then connect one of them (probably the one that has no problems connecting with USB) to the Time Capsule via USB?
    Second, somewhat-related problem...
I don't know why one drive isn't connecting very well when directly connected to the Time Capsule. Both are Fantom drives. One is a 1TB, the one that has prblems connecting is a 250GB. I've tried connecting directly or through a powered hub. The 1B has no problems, the 250 gb won't show up most of the time and disconnects itself fairly quickly if it does connect. I've switched cables; that hasn't helped. The 1TB stays connected most of the time but sometimes it disconnects too. I suspect the Time Capsule just isn't able to deal with external drives so I don't puch it. It would be nice to be able to have both drives accessable through the TC though.
    Thanks for any help.
    Cheers,
    John

Doing some experimentation, connecting the drives directly to the MBP:
    - Neither of the two drives Firewire daisy-chained and going through the powered USB hub connected to the MBP mount. I was using old aliases on desktop.*They don't show up on network otherwise. (Each drive self-mounts with both Firewire and USB direct connections.)
*Even after making new aliases, neither drive will mount using their new aliases when directly connected (not through hub) with USB or Firewire (and Thunderbolt adapter.) That's weird.
    - Both the 240 gb and the 1TB drives going through powered hub connected to MBP mount by themselves.
    - Two drives daisy-chained via Firewire and one drive connected to the MBP via Firewire (and Thunderbolt adapter) self-mount. No surprise there but that doesn't help me as I want to have the drives further away from the MBP and connected to the Time Capsule, which doesn't have a Firewire port anyway...
    - All of the USB and the Firewire cables work as does the Thunderbolt adapter. I tested them.
I wonder.... I have a Firewire to what appears to be an Ethernet connector. I wonder if that would be any good. I'm afraid to try it though...

  • Can I daisy chain 30" apple monitor to thunderbolt HD on macbook pro?

I have a 30" apple monitor plugged into this adapter:  http://foliovision.com/2009/12/apple-dual-dvi-mini-displayport-adapter-mb571z   that in turn is plugged into the thunderbolt port as well as one USB port on my 2011 macbook pro i7.
I want to buy a Lacie Big5 thunderbolt RAID system, but I only have one thunderbolt port.  will i be able to daisy chain the monitor to the thunderbolt RAID?

I don't want to assume that it will work because it a little bit different on the Retina. All of the 2012 line of MacBook’s utilize the same thunderbolt controller which does support 2 displays and 4 10Gbit/s data (even the MacBook air 11" can support 2 external monitors and it's own display). But i think that the controller is hardwired for each port meaning each port only has 2 10Gbit/s data and 1 display. I haven't been able to confirm this because I don't have 2 thunderbolt displays and i was wondering if anyone has tried this. The reason why I ask is because I'm doing research on all of the new MacBook’s and their Thunderbolt controller.

  • Daisy chaining a FireWire drive

I just bought a new 21.5 inch iMac, and I'm in the process of setting it up. I noticed it has one 800 FireWire port. I have a Pro Tools DigiRack with only 400 ports. I have an 800/400 cable, so I'll be able to connect it, and a seperate external hard drive with 800 ports.
What I'm wondering is if it would be better to daisy chain the DigiRack off of the external hard drive and connect the drive to the iMac, or connect the Digirack to the iMac with an 800/400 cable, and run the external drive off of the Digirack? I'm curious if one way would be more efficient than the other, and also if the hard drive could handle the DigiRack feeding off of it.
If I haven't totally confused everyone, I'd appreciate any thoughts.

    Hi
Sorry to jump on this topic, but I have a query about the same thing. I need to run a firewire 800 external drive with a firewire 400 dv camera daisy chained to it from my MBP. What happens to the read speeds when daisy chaining externals? does it drop dramatically e.g by half if using two externals on the same port? My only other option is to use the external drive with USB2. but the drive is the priority! would that be faster than daisychaining on a FW800 port?

  • Daisy-chain Firewire 800 versus USB

Hi.  I have an external drive (drive A) connected to my MPB via Firewire 800.  I have my iTunes media library on this drive (movies, TV shows, music etc).  When I watch a movie on my Apple TV, the content is being streamed from this drive via my MBP to the Apple TV.  This works fine.
I also have a second external drive (drive B) that I use only as a back-up for drive A.  I use Carbon Copy Cloner to back up drive A onto drive B.  I can connect drive B in one of two ways: Option #1 is to connect drive B directly to my MBP via USB (USD 2.0). This is how I currently have it connected.  Option #2 is to connect drive B to drive A via a Firewire 800 cable, daisy-chaining the two drives.
    Two questions:
    1. Which option will give me better performance when backing up drive A to drive B?
    2. If I am watching a movie on Apple TV (streaming from drive A) at the same time that I am backing up drive A to drive B, will option #2 affect streaming of the movie?
    Thank you

Have you Shut down your Mac and disconnected your firewire cable from both ends and let it sit about ten minutes then reconnect and try. Also, it is important to disconnect the AC power to your Mac, this helps to reset the FireWire port(s).
Have you checked to see if Disk Utility sees it/ can mount it?
Do you have TechTool Pro or DiskWarrior, both of which you could use to try to mount it.
It is also possible that you have a bad cable or a bad port, do other FW devices work?

  • Daisy chain Dell u2713h

I have two Dell u2713h monitors on my desk at work.
I also have a Macbook Pro10,1 (early 2013) with a grand total of two TB ports
I need to use one of the two TB ports for a TB-to-ethernet adapter because there are well in excess of 30 wireless access points visible to my computer from my desk which means using our company's wifi is a no-go, I'm literally getting disconnected 1-2 times per minute.
So, I can only use one of my TB ports for my two monitors. Both monitors are DP 1.2 compatible and have 1.2 support activated.
    I'm running OS X 10.9.4
As far as I know it should be possible to daisy chain the monitors (I am, of course, running my MBP in clamshell mode with external mouse and keyboard) but when I connect them as follows:
    MBP mini-DP out -> Monitor #1 DP in -> Monitor #1 DP out -> Monitor #2 mini-DP in
    I just get mirroring.
So, what am I doing wrong? This should work, right?

I cannot get my out of the box one new Dell monitor, model u2415 to work with my MacBook Pro (MBP). I have a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Early 2011). I have no other external monitor.
After working with Dell Tech Support, they tell me it is "Plug-n-Play" and incompatible with Apple. However, I find on YouTube and here, people using this new Dell monitor.
I told Dell, I cannot get any Menu or what have you, to come up on the Dell. Only the "Inputs" selection. I think that's where the problem is.
Frankly, after two nights and four hours or so (also with Apple). I'm about to give up.
    Am I missing something? Ideas???

  • Can't daisy chain Thunderbolt 1 and 2 drives

I have a Mac Mini server (mid 2011) with a Pegasus R4 connected via Thunderbolt that has been running fine. The Mini is running Lion Server.
Just recently I got a Lacie 2big drive with Thunderbolt 2. I assumed that TB2 was backwards compatible so daisy chaining the Lacie to the Pegasus wouldn't be an issue. But when I do so, the Lacie doesn't mount and Disk Utility cannot see it.
However, if I connect the Lacie directly to the Mini it mounts and works fine. So then I tried connecting the Pegasus to the Lacie. But now the Pegasus doesn't mount and can't be seen by Disk Utility or Promise Utility.
So, is the problem trying to daisy chain TB1 and TB2 devices together? Or is it the Mini? Or is it Lion?
    Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks for the quick reply. The Pegasus is over 3 years old and I have never updated the firmware. I will do so.
However, I got everything to work. The one I thing I didn't try was rebooting with both drives daisy chained and turned on. This did it. I restarted many times but each time was with only one of the drives connected. Not sure why a reboot is necessary for the daisy chained device to be visible.

  • Daisy-Chained G-Tech 400/800 and Mini

I've got a Mini that I use as my entertainment system (all music, video, TV, etc.)... I use a lot of harddrive space and currently have a G-Tech 500gb Firewire 400/800 drive that has one firewire 400 and two firewire 800 ports. I use this drive to store all my music, movies, TV shows, etc... and a second one to backup my Mini, my media external hard drive, and my MacBook Pro...
    My question is as follows:
I know that with Firewire I can daisy chain the drives... however, my Mini does not have an 800 port... So, can I do the following without running into problems:
Mac Mini connected to "Media Drive" via Firewire 400 - connected to "Backup drive" via Firewire 800?
Basically my question is can some devices in a daisy chain be connected via 400 and others via 800 or does a daisy chain need to remain consistent using only 400 or only 800 throughout?
Otherwise, I guess I'll just use a hub... though this option rubs me the wrong way for some reason... it seems like I'd be sacrificing something by going through a hub... is this unfounded?
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

That's what I thought you meant. The issue is whether the drive in the middle has a cross-connection between FW 400 and 800 ports, and that is not likely (though technically possible despite the different specifications).
I would check with the manufacturer of the drive you intend to use in the middle of the chain to see if there is such a cross-connection on the FW 400 and 800 interfaces, but FW 400 and 800 aren't like USB 1.1 and 2.0 with their backwards compatibility.

  • Daisy Chaining External HDDs

Okay, I know this has been asked a couple of times around the Discussion Boards, but I want to clarify and expand upon it.
Right now I have one 500GB LaCie d2 External HDD that I use only for Time Machine. This works out great, however, as I download more content from the iTunes store, buy more music, etc., it's evident that I'm going to need more space eventually.
My plan is to buy two or three more 500GB HDDs. Each will be used for a different purpose: one for iMovie, one for iTunes and video, and maybe one more just for extra storage if I need it. I don't really need to go any larger, and I don't want to ever put too much on a HDD anyway incase it ever bites the bullet.
My question relates to daisy chaining all of the drives. I use Firewire 800, and I just want to make sure that I should have any problems if the HDDs run daisy chained together. Also, do you think I would have any problems keeping the drives on all of the time if they were rack mounted?

Theoretically you should be fine daisy chaining the drives as long as they are individually powered. I think those people having problems may be related to the particular drive cases being used. One way you could cut down on the number of external cases is to get a dual drive enclosure. This is the one that I am using:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/MEFW924AL2K/
Just buy two hard drives and install them into the case. Set the jumper to JBOD and both drives will mount over a single FW800 connection.

  • Trying to record multiple tracks (24) in Garageband with 3 presonus firestudio devices daisy-chained together.

Please help !! I can record multiple tracks (8) on a single presonus firestudio, but now I'm trying to expand the number of tracks to 24 by daisy-chaining three firestudio devices.
The three units will sync up properly, and Garageband detects all of the input channels, but the recording doesn't pick up the input signals for the 2nd or 3rd device. It only picks up the signals from the first device. I read the manual and daisy-chained the devices by serial number (lowest to highest).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Daisy chain two MI424WR routers?

I've been googling but have been unsuccesful and my friendly automated Verizon CR pop up box has no clue what I'm asking him :-)
Given the configuration in our house, we can only hardwire into the FIOS Internet in one location (with a MI424WR router), and I need a hard connection at a 2nd location to activate my slingbox.
I have a 2nd MI424WR that I'd like to daisy chain to the 1st one, at the secondary location where I have the slingbox.  Once I have internet access at the 2nd location, I assume I can then get the slingbox working off of that internet signal at the 2nd router.
So....can anyone explain simply, step by step, how I can daisy chain the routers such that the 2nd router can piggyback on the 1st router's internet access?
Thanks so much - and the simpler and more straightforward the instructions, the better - I'm not the strongest techie in the world!

    wOw! how confusing.
Actually, Your 2nd Verizon Router can be turned into just a basic switch, so no need to go purchase anything. - To make it act like just a switch instead of a router, You need to access that router's configuration page and turn off the 'DHCP Server' function.
to do that you need to connect a computer to that 2nd router via an ethernet cable (Plug the power cord in for that router, but do NOT connect that router to the internet)  plug the cable from your computer into one of the 4 LAN ports on that router (not the WAN port)
open your internet browzer on the computer connected to that router and type in 192.168.1.1 in the address bar <- that should connect you to the page to enter the configuration pages of that router.
NOTE:  If you hold in the reset button on the back of that router for 15 seconds, then let it go and wait about 2 minutes before you try the above process,  you will have reset the default access codes on that router to make it easiest to gain access to....  the default login name = admin, and the default login password = password (or password1)    You may be directed to change the password the first time you access the router, but that is up to you if you want to change it.
Any way, log into the router    choose 'advanced' at the top, choose 'yes' you want to proceed, then look for 'IP Address Distribution' in the main part of the screen, open that,   you should see something like 'Network (Home\Office)' and on that same line out to the right you see a box labled 'Action'  - click on that 'Action' box and another box opens.  AT the top of that new box you see a listing for 'Services' and under that the only service listed should be 'IP Address Distribution'  with a drop down menu to the right.  By default it should say "DHCP Server".   Click on the drop down menu and choose 'disable'.   Then click on 'APPLY' at the bottom, then choose "logout" on the left.
NOTE:   If you ever need to reset that router, it goes back to the default settings, which makes it a DHCP server again.  (There is a way to 'save' your current configuration to the computer the Router is attached to, so that you can 'restore' the current settings in the future without needing to go through all the steps here.)
after you have completed this, you need to connect the ethernet cable coming FROM your 1st router (which is the one assigning IP addresses) [plugged into one of the 4 LAN ports on the first router]  to the second router by plugging that into the WAN port of the second router.    Then connect an ethernet cable from one of the LAN ports on the 2nd router to your device.
Your device will then receive an IP address.
NOTE:    The easiest, fastest way to have all this 'just work', will be to turn off the first router BEFORE you connect the second router to it.    Turn off all devices connected to the first router.   Have your 2nd router turned off as well as whatever you are going to be connecting to the 2nd router.   TURN everything off.    Then make all the connections.  Then FIRST turn on the first (main) router.   wait until you have the internet light is green on that first router before you turn anything else on.  SECOND, turn on the second router and wait until the internet light on it is green on it before you turn on anything else.    Then turn on whatever devices.   It should all just work.

  • Daisy chain isight imovie not working

    Hi,
I am currently botting my mac mini off an external hard drive. When I daisy chain the isight it works fine with ichat, but it fails to work with imovie. What happens is that it works for approx. 10 to 15 seconds and then the image skips(like an old tv skipping horizontally) and the image freezes. Any help would be widely appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Gmas.

    You're welcome, Gmas.
And thank you for the kind words. It sounds like you have a good plan.
Bill's good suggestion may give you what you want if you can try that.
... it seems that the only option is buying a powered hub that works.I can think of some others:
-Be sure you have NO unnecessary apps running while you are recording.
-If you are using FileVault, try turning that off. There are known issues with FileVault and iMovie.
-You can try booting from your internal drive when you want to use iSight to see if iSight works acceptably with iMovie that way.
-You can make very short clips and edit them together in iMovie.
-Try adding light. Many who post here experience an iMovie video "freeze" that is not related to which drive is being used to boot. There seems to be a wide variation in how long recording can be done before the freeze occurs. Perhaps you are just experiencing the "iMovie freeze"? You can search iSight Discussions (up on level) for "iMovie freeze" (without the quote marks) to find several other users' experiences.
-The iMovie freeze can be caused by low light. iSight switches to 15 frames-per-second to improve picture quality in low-light conditions. This causes a conflict with iMovie, which expects standard DV input at a fixed frame rate.
-As explained in David Babsky's "Various iMovie/iSight problems" msg # 1, Jul 14, 2005 response to your post in iMovieHD Discussions, more light, iMovie HD, and keeping other apps that use iSight closed may (my emphasis) help.
-Try another app like EvoCam. The fifth item in the EvoCam FAQ claims that they have a fix for the iMovie freeze. Their work-around involves resetting the video channel. You can do the same thing manually in iMovie by just making shorter clips and editing them together.
-Although I do not know any that yield better results, there are other video clip capture apps included in the Some Applications you can use with iSight FAQ.
-For more specific iMovie help, you may also want to check out the FAQs and posts in the iMovie Discussions area applicable to the version you use. The iMovie users are watching there.
I know you wish it would work differently, but it obviously is not working the way you want. Perhaps one of these work-arounds can help you accomplish your desired outcome, even if you cannot attain it via your preferred methodology.
Please let us know if you find a satisfactory solution.
    Cheers

  • Daisy Chain Snow to Time Capsule

A few months ago I got a new Time Capsule and retired my trusty old Snow ABS. I took the recommendation and set up WPA security. The Snow was WEP. Well a few days ago I had to bring out a nice old G3 iBook (late-model) for a project and when I tried to connect it to the TC I did not get the WPA option. I dug through the forums and knowledge base and understand there should be an upgrade. Well I tired everything, including re-installing 10.3.2 then updating back to 10.3.9. Then I tried re-installing and sticking with 10.3.2 and upgrading just the Airport software to 4.2. Etc, etc, etc. and I cannot get the iBook G3 to use WPA.
Sooo, I broke out the Snow and daisy chained it to one of the <...> ports on the time capsule. The old G3 sees the Snow but I cannot get it to connect to the internet.
The Airport setup software on the iBook 10.3.9 will not update it and the MacAir Leopard cannot even see it - although both machines can access it from the menu drop down and connect to the snow.
So here are my questions: Can I daisy chain the Snow to the TC? What port do I use on the Snow? What configuration can I use to get the Snow to access the net connected this way (the TC is connected to my Cable modem)? What software can I use to do what ever configs I need to do to the Snow?

Not sure why the admin util did not worked on the MBA.
This is the issue that I was trying to help with, for future base station administration. (I recognize that you can administer the Snow from an old machine. If that situation is satisfactory, you may disregard the rest of this post.) I'm sorry if my earlier post wasn't clear.
On the MBA, the preference file that I mentioned, especially if it was created by a different version of AirPort Admin Utility, might be corrupted.
AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow 4.2.5 might not find the Snow unless the MBA successfully connects to the Snow's wireless network before the utility launches.
And the utility might not work with the Snow unless the MBA's IP address when it is connected to the Snow's wireless network is in the same subnet as the Snow's own IP address. The IP address settings in OS 10.5 are in the Advanced network preferences for TCP/IP for AirPort. The MBA's IP address should be 10.0.1.x, if the Time Capsule is set to share a public IP address, the Snow is set not to distribute IP addresses, and the MBA is set to use DHCP. The Snow's IP address is viewable on the opening screen of AirPort Admin Utility on your old machine. (While the Snow is set not to distribute IP addresses, its LAN IP address equals its WAN IP address.) The WAN IP address settings for the Snow are in the "Internet" pane of AirPort Admin Utility. The Snow's IP address should also be 10.0.1.x--i.e., in the same subnet as the MBA--if the TC is set to share a public IP address, the Snow's WAN port is connected to the TC's LAN port, the Snow is set to use DHCP in the "Internet" pane of AirPort Admin Utility, and the Snow is set not to distribute IP addresses in the "Network" pane of AirPort Admin Utility.
