Damaged iPad out of the box can't be exchanged. Help!

Hi guys,
Since the new iPad is not officially available in Serbia yet (and yet the new Retina Macbook pro is available) I bought it in Bulgaria. It is a Black 64gb 4g model. However when I brought it home and unpacked the box the upper half of the back of the iPad looked as if it had been sandpapered, it really looked bad. Morever the rubber between the glass and the bezel wasn't aligned properly, it just looked very bad! Trust me I am not nitpicking. The problem is that unlike most people who live in USA, UK, Germany etc. I can't go back to the store and have it exchanged, I can't even call Apple with my telephone because there is no Apple support in my country. I don't feel happy that I have given so much money for a device that looks worse than a used one, especially when I've been struggling to afford it. I am a language professor and I've been planning to use it in my lectures for keynote presentations, as a lesson planner etc.
All the best,
Vlasta

I did not examine the iPad because I've never had this problem before, because I trusted Apple's quality control.
It may or may not have anything to do with Apple. The package could have been opened at the store (or anywhere) before it was sold.

the screen is blank. no noise whatsoever from the hd
please help i just forked a lot of money for this and i bought this because i need it for a presentation tomorrow its 3am now and im very very frustrated

Try a proper system reset. Power off the laptop, unplug the AC from the unit, remove the battery, press and hold down the power button for 30 seconds, replace the battery and AC, power on, when you see the Toshiba logo, press the 'F2' key to enter theBIOS Setup, in setup press 'F9' to load setup defaults, press 'F10' to save and exit, and then to boot into Windows.
Please let us know what happens. Good luck.

  • Damaged right out of the box

Just opened the box containing my black MacBook.
First thing I did was to turn the machine upside down and press the battery-life indicator button. All five buttons lit up (good!), but I was a bit turned off to see that one of the edges of the case where the battery rests was chewed up a bit, as though a tech had inserted a screwdriver and tried to pry the thing out!
I called the shop where I bought the thing (Bic Camera, an authorized Apple dealer in Tokyo) and was told, sorry, they don't take back Apple products, and that I'd have to call AppleCare.
So I thought to myself, well, what's a couple of minor knicks. The thing is going to get scratched eventually anyway. So I decided to live with it.
That's when I noticed the lid...
When closed, the lid doesn't line up evenly with the bottom half of the PowerBook. It's off by about an eighth of an inch on the left side and the left top edge. That is NOT acceptable.
Just called AppleCare, talked to a polite AppleCare representative, and am now awaiting a return call from the rep's "supervisor."
Given my long experience with Apple products, my guess is that I just happened to get a dud from among what I'm sure are tens of thousands of perfectly built machines. That said, I'm a bit hesitant now to buy the white MacBook that I told my wife I'd get for her this weekend. Not until I know these things weren't simply slapped together...
My question: Has anyone else purchased a MacBook whose build is less than satisfactory?

No build problems, but DOA nonetheless. I walked out of the store with one not more than 2 hours ago, and when I got home it was dead within minutes of starting up. Got the spinning wheel of death, but couldn't move it with the mouse. It was completely hung. Gave it 5 minutes, but no luck, and no key/reset combination would unstick it. Had to unplug, but then it wouldn't reboot. (I'm an expert user, and I know that I did absolutely nothing wrong or unkosher, so it was definitely not me.)
But I'm enough of a believer to give it another go! The machine is sweet, no question about it. I just hope our cases are the rare ones.

  • What's wrong with my iPad - out of the box?

I happily received my new iPad. But unlike what I'm supposed to see on my start-up screen, I only get a picture of a USB cord pointed at an iTunes icon. It only stays on a few seconds before the screen goes blank. Additionally, although I have it charging, via its charger, into a regular outlet, the battery doesn't seem to be charging. (When I have it plugged in, there's a "socket" icon inside the battery icon, but when it's not plugged in - and I had it plugged in overnight - the battery had only white space inside it. I am a longtime Mac user, but this is frustrating. What can / should I do?

That definitely doesn't sound correct. Try plugging it in to your Mac and see if it will recognize it. Try holding down the sleep button to make it actually turn off. Then power it back on again. You will get an Apple logo during a power on. If you don't get that, it may be dead.

All of that sounds like normal behavior. That "socket" is the charging indicator. The white space is the battery full indicator.

  • My year old phone this morning was like it was fresh out of the box. can i do anything with out without messing it up?

i don't know what to do now.  do i start like fresh and lose everything from 6 years of contacts and such?
what should i do next?  charlie

Well, I just re-read the title of your thread and you say your device is a year old. If it's over one year then you are out of warranty. If it is under a year you should still have warranty left.

  • Sharepoint Out of the Box as Business Process Management (BPM) Tool

How Sharepoint  out of the box can be used as Business Process Management  tool? Like we have K2.

    Hi Bharat,
    Thanks for posting your query,
All versions of SharePoint support workflows based on windows workflow foundation. SharePoint Server includes some predefined advanced workflows such as Approval, Collect feedback, Collect signatures. WSS 3.0 and SharePoint foundation contains simple "3
    steps workflow".
But all versions support custom workflows and custom worflow steps created in SharePoint Designer or Visual Studio.
You can customize forms with SharePoint Designer, Visual Studio or InfoPath.

  • I can't delete in the search/address bar on my cursor moves out of the box

When I try to delete after typing a word in the search bar after the cursor moves out of the box I can't i have to reload the page before i can start typing again. Also happens when i just click off the box does not let me type any more without refreshing. I get a beep sound when i try to type or reload

Clear Safari and the reset the iPad again. Settings>Safari>Clear history and website data. Now reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time until the Apple logo appears on the screen.
I would also reset the router by unplugging it for 30 seconds and then plug it in again.

  • Just got a new IPAD3, straight out of the box, but I cant charge it, I have tried with the power plug and cable out of the box but no joy, i have tried resetting the iPad but still no joy, have tried different plug sockets, different plugs/cables, help

Just got a new IPAD3, straight out of the box, but I cant charge it, I have tried with the power plug and cable out of the box that came with it but no joy, i have tried resetting the iPad but still no joy, have tried different mains plug sockets around the house with no joy, I have tried different USB mains plugs but again no joy, I tried using my new iPad cable into the USB port of my MacBook Pro laptop but still no joy, then, I tried using my old iPod classic cable into my MacBook Pro and that worked, so I have a way of charging my new iPad3 but its not practical as i have to take my MacBook Pro everywhere if I want to charge it which kind of defeats the object of having an iPad, has anybody experienced anything similar and how was it fixed? can anybody help me please...

    Grumpy Gator,
Please note it did say at the store's discretion, but people have actually been able to return it to the on-line store. (I only saw a couple who tried.)
And given the outcry, I would think Apple might have other Apple stores join in. Just in case, though, if you can, you might bring it in today.
If it's an ARS, my guess is they can stick to their 14 day return. Apple cannot force them to do it. SO if it's not bought directly from Apple, and it's past the 14 day deal, I'd bring it in to the store today if you have one. When I gave people the cnet.com site, I gave it so people could read it and know only Apple had made the decision for Apple. And I suggested to some that an Apple reseller would probably stick with their own return policy.
Because Arnie had just bought his, he should be able to return it to Apple or an ARS because an ARS has to have some kind of full refund or at least return for credit within 7 or 14 days of purchase.
    Hope this helps.

  • Anyone else received dented iPad air out of the box?

Anyone else received a damaged iPad air out of box?... 2 dents on back out of the box.

I just took a call from my local reseller and Apple have agreed to replace the iPad. A bit late for a Christmas present -  but it appears to be ending well.
I'll be certain to unpack and check everything before leaving the store next time

  • Can you use the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display straight out of the box, or do you have to charge it first?

Can you use the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display straight out of the box, or do you have to charge it up fully before you can use it. I do not want to damage the laptop by misusing the battery.

Attach the charger and start charging the battery to 100%.  The good news is that after you have connected the charger, you may start using the MBP as well.
    Ciao.

  • Will a new IPAD work out of the box without syncing it to a computer?

While I understand the reason for syncing an IPAD to your computer via ITUNES, I was wondering if the IPAD will work out of the box without syncing? I bought an IPAD for my wife for Christmas and she wants to sync it to her work computer (her own small business). She's new to Apple and she doesn't have an ITUNES account yet. By the way, she knows she's getting an IPAD for Christmas. We don't want to go to her work on Christmas day to get her IPAD "going."
Question: Can she open the IPAD on Christmas day and have it work or will we have to get her an ITUNES account and have her sync it to her work computer prior to Christmas for it to work on Christmas day?
I would prefer to keep it boxed up until Christmas but I'd like her to be able to use it on Christmas day and then after Christmas go to her work to download ITUNES and sync it to her computer.

I purchased an iPad with 3G for a family member without a computer with Internet connection who lives in a rural area where 3G is available. I shipped the iPad however upon receipt the only thing he could do with it was charge it. Due to physical limitations related to a medical condition he rarely leaves his residence. The marketing for the iPad implies a stand alone capable device, however, until I was able to visit several months after shipping the iPad the family member was not able to use it. During my visit I took the iPad to an AT&T store and they were able to set it so it showed the icons and allowed setup of Interner access. I can understand the Wi-Fi version likely being purchased by someone that already has a computer with Internet access, but the 3G should be able to funciton out of the box as a stand alone unit and it does not.

  • How do I sync my iPad to iTunes after setting it up independently out of the box?

I bought my iPad a couple of months ago and set it up straight out of the box as I didnt have my laptop there. It is synced to back up over Lion and all that Jazz but now I want to sync it to my iTunes so that I can put big files on it easily (movies etc). However, it wants me to completely restore it and resync and set up through iTunes, I will therefore lose everything...
    What do I do?

Read this blog and see if this isn't something that you might want to try. I've never had to do this, but I've referred a few users to this - who were having the same issue as you - and it worked for them.
    Take a look.

Just started up my Mac Mini out of the box, using a USB windows keyboard, it will not recognize letters so I am unable to enter serial number.  Anything I can do to get the mini mac right out of the box to recognize the windows keyboard?  Do I have to buy an Apple Keyboard to get it to work right out of the box?

Is this a normal USB keyboard or is there anything specialized about it? Does this keyboard require you to install any special software to use it on a Windows box? Or is it usually a plug & play keyboard?
Normally if a Mac does not recognize a keyboard it asks you to press certain keys to identify the keyboard. What is happening on screen with this keyboard? What serial number are you referring to?
