Damaged iTunes libraries

While looking for why I've used almost all 74 GB of my memory, I found that I have six folders in iTunes marked "iTunes Library Damaged" "iTunes Library (1) Damaged," "iTunes Library (2) Damaged," etc. What are these folders? Can I delete these? If I do, will I gain memory back? Will I lose music? Thanks for any help.

I'm having a similar problem. Can you tell me where you found these 'damaged' folders? I need to delete mine too. I think they are caused when an iPod is disconnected during syncing.

The duplication is unnecessary. Exporting creates a duplicate of the file. So now you'll have a duplicate of a duplicate. Exporting is not "working on" a file.
No it's not merging, it's exporting from one to the Finder and into another. No matter what lose something. If you export the Original you leave behind all the work you've done in iPhoto. If you export anything else, you lose the non-destructive editing and the ability to revert to the original. With merging you preserve that work. Yes, you can trash the old Library when you have completed the manoevre but no it's not the same thing as merging.
    This User Tip
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4921
has details of the options in the Export dialogue. But in brief:
Current gets you the iPhoto Preview, used for sharing via media browsers. It's a jpg, medium quality missing metadata. Original gets the file you imported, unchanged and then you can export different version of the current version at different qualities. If you choose to export anything except the Original you do not get a Raw. There's no such thing as an "edited Raw", and you lose the connection between the original and the exported version. That means you've taken a non-destructive workflow and turned it into a destructive one.
The Tiff will certainly be higher qulaity and less likely to suffer generational loss in future editing but the file sizes are vast, often more than 10 times the size of the jpeg.
Put it this way, it would be cheaper to buy Library Manager than the disk you'll need to contain all the Tiffs. Unless you plan on a lot of editing, I'd go for a high quality jpeg as a reasonable compromise.
    To be clear:
So, I guess my new question is, how can I edit the Raw image and keep it in a RAW format that IPhoto recognizes so that I can reprocess without any loss at a future time, or is it that once you edit a RAW image, then it is no longer a RAW image?
Once you edit a Raw it can no longer be a Raw. End of.

  • HELP!!! Damaged Itunes File

2 days ago when I turned my computer on and plugged in my iphone, I got a strange error message and itunes completely shut down. When it restarted, I had lost ALL of my playlists. My songs are still there, but the recently played, 90's, etc. are all gone. Also when i synced my ipod, the same thing happened and now the playlists are gone from there. I check the apple support page and i began to reload the playlists, but when i went looking for them, i discovered something bizarre. I now have a file in my itunes folder called Itunes Library (Damaged) with the exact date the problems started. Anyone have any ideas how to fix this so I can get my playlists back or at least get the list back so I can start to have my recently played songs start to fill back in???
    HELP!!!!
    Thanks!!!

    OK
    Close iTunes
Drag iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music Library.xml out of you iTunes folder to your desktop.
COPY the old iTunes Library(date).itl from the Previous iTunes Libraries folder to you iTunes folder.
    Rename it iTunes Library.itl
Start iTunes - iTutnes should start converting it to the new version.
Once that has completed, assuming it goes OK, you can add your iTunes Music folder to iTunes with File>>Add Folder to Library. This will add any music you have added to your library since upgrading.
Once you are satisfied with your library it is a good idea to make a backup copy of the itl and xml files from time to time so you can recover easily if you get the damaged library porblem again.

  • How do I use your iPhone with multiple iTunes libraries

Hi, I have my music spread out between 3 seperate Itunes libraries on 3 different profiles on my computer. I have the newest generation Ipod Nano, Ipod Shuffle, and Iphone 4s. My Ipod's are both full, so I've decided to start putting music onto my phone. With my Ipod's, I can plug them into one profile on the computer, download the music on the Itunes library that exists on that profile, then do the same with the other profiles with no issue. However when I try to do this with my phone, It asks me to erase the music I have gotten from one Itunes library and sync with the current library, as soon as I plug it in to a different Itunes on one of the other profiles. I have my Iphone configured with the Manually manage music option, and I still haven't found a way to use my Iphone with multiple music libraries. PLEASE HELP

http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12113 - If you use manual syncing, you can sync items from more than one iTunes library to your iPod. (You can sync iPod touch, iPhone, and iPad with only one iTunes library.)
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1202 - When manually managing content, you can add content from multiple libraries to your iPod or iPad. Even when manually managing music, some content may be available from only one library at time. This includes all content on iPhone and video content on iPod and iPad.
They seem inconsistent as far as the iPad is concerned but in both articles the iPhone appears to only be able to sync to one library at a time.

No. Frequently the apps take up more storage space on the iPod that the file download size.

  • Having issues setting up the use of two iTunes libraries on one Apple TV.  I can set up my iTunes library as I can turn home sharing on from my own computer, however, my fiance only has an iPad with home sharing turned on and it does not find his account?

I have a new Apple TV which I am struggling to set up with both mine and my fiances music.  I have a laptop, but my fiance only has an ipad and it only seems to sync my music library from my iTunes account.  He has homesharing turned on on his iPad but the Apple TV does not recognise his iPad.  It seems from the help that I have read online that homesharing works when you use the same itunes account, is not possible to be able to use two different itunes libraries with two different accounts (and only one computer)?
    Thanks

Both libraries would need to have been setup to use home sharing with the same Apple ID in order for that to work.

  • Is there a way to use music from multiple users itunes libraries on one iMac for a slideshow in Aperture?

I am trying to put together a slide show for a trip my wife and I took to England. I would like to be able to use music from both our itunes libraries in the slide show. I am using Aperture to create the slide show since it seems to be more versatile than iPhoto for this. Only trouble is that when I log into my username on the iMac I only see my iTunes library and similar when logging into her username. We have different music but would like to use some from each library in the slide show.

You can only use one library at a time in an Aperture slideshow, so I'd suggest to simply collect the audio that you want to use in a folder (export the songs from both iTunes Libraries) and then import this folder to Aperture. Now you have a project containing the audio files; you will see it in the Aperture Audio section of the audio Browser, right above the iTunes section.
You can use the Apperture audio just like the audio in iTunes to drag to the timeline of your slideshow.

  • How to Consolidate MULTIPLE iTunes Libraries?

I’ve found myself in a situation where my iTunes file organization has gotten out of hand. Originally this occurred because I had an iBook with only a 60GB HD, storage was tight, so I had to keep my music on both an external HD as well as the iBook’s internal HD … a real pain in the butt.
So now I have three separate locations that hold the triad of folders: iTunes Library/ iTunes Music Folder/ iTunes Music Library.xml. In addition, I have about another 20GB of music in Mp3 or MPEG-4 format, which are in folders arranged by artist but are not included in an iTunes Library. I’m spread all over the place!
I just bought a new G5 Dual-Core last week and thankfully, I now have sufficient hard drive space to consolidate everything, but I have no clue as to how to proceed to merge the several iTunes Libraries into ONE, and then to add my other 20GB of music files to it (I believe I can accomplish the latter by using the import command in iTunes, correct) … with the desired end result of having all my music in one iTunes Library and stored in one location?
As it stands, I now have two small iTune Libraries on the G5 (filed in the ‘Music’ folder … this mirrors how it was on my iBook). On one external HD I have another very large iTunes Library (25GB), and on a third HD I have large collection of music (20GB) that is not currently cataloged in any of my iTune Libraries. I could really use some advice on how to get my iTunes in unified working order.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks a bunch!
    G5 Dual-Core   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Thanks.
OK. I did the Consolidate command.
However, I'm not exactly sure what it did?
It looks like iTunes just COPIED the second location of my music files and placed them into the main iTunes Library (ie. the library that is referenced when iTunes opens)?
So, I'm assuming it is now safe to trash the files that were copied over/
I still have a third mass of music files (20GB) that is already organized in folders by artists (this was copied from another itunes on a different computer); they were pulled from a different iTunes Music Folder and but there is no 'iTunes Music Library.xml' or 'iTunes Library' file extant that accompanies them. So although they have already been organized (segregated by artist) by iTunes, they have not been imported into my current iTunes library. What's the most expeditious manner of bringing them in en mass?

  • How do I put 2 iTunes libraries on 1 computer

I have two people using one computer.  How can I put 2 iTunes libraries on one computer?

My husband and I each have our own iTunes accounts/libraries on the same computer. The way we accomplished this was by having separate user logins/profiles on the computer (set up from control panel) and then when setting up the iTunes libraries, ensured that we each used our own devices in our own logins/profiles.
There is probably a way of doing this using just 1 user profile, but this was the cleanest and more straightforward way  for us and it works wonders!
FYI- it does use more memory space having multiple profiles on the computer, but it was worth it for us.
    Hope this helps!

  • T will it have 2 different itune libraries? Or do we have to share 1?

I am trying to back up a 2 iphone onto one computer. But will it have 2 different itune libraries? Or do we have to share 1?

This is up to you and not determined by the iPhone.
You can sync each iPhone with the same iTunes library and each iPhone has its own sync preferences with iTunes, or you can have more than one iTunes library with iTunes on your computer. This will require constantly logging in and and out of each iTunes library on your computer with iTunes depending on the iPhone being synced with iTunes.

  • I have two separate iTunes libraries on two separate Computers. I need to consolidate them so I can play them on a brand new computer. How do I do this so I can play them off an External Hard Drive on my brand new computer?

Why, if it told you you have insufficient space on your computer, would it suggest making more space available on your phone?
At a guess, you have insufficient space on your phone. Installing software will typically require more space than the final size of the software, perhaps even twice or three times as much, for the installation process. You can easily dump some videos or music temporarily, and then synch them back in afterwards.

  • Sharing iTunes Libraries

I have about 300Gb of tunes on a usb disk that I have shared on a file server. I'd like to share those MP3s between my iMac, MBP, and my wife's Mac Book Air.
Currently, I have the volume shared, and I've pointed both of our itunes libraries over there. And, things are mostly ok. But, lately I've been doing iTunes cleanup, removing dupes and cleaning up tags. So, now I need to rebuild my library, and that's where I'm running into trouble. If it was just my library, then I'd delete it, and re-add it. But, with multiple people using the tunes, I thought there might be an easier way. So, I'm ready to start over, and I thought I'd ask you guys for your opinion:
What's the best way to share a repository of tunes? I have been pointing the Music Folder Location to the repo, but that seems really slow. Would it be better to just leave the music there, but index it locally?
And, is there an easier way to rescan a library other than deleting everything and re-adding? I hate having to rebuild my playlists.
    Thanks in advance!

Follow the instructions in this article if you haven't already.

  • 2 iTunes libraries on one computer?

Is there anyway to have 2 different iTunes libraries on 1 computer? My girlfriend and I both have Ipod Nano's, however I want my own library for my own songs, and I tried to download the library again however it just goes to hers. Is this possible?

That's using one user account and switching between 2 iTunes accounts, you need two user accounts.
By user accounts I mean accounts on the computer where each user logs in and accesses only their content (which includes everything, not just iTunes)
