Damaged Plug Power Adapter

I tripped on the cord and ripped the power adapter plug from where it attaches to the computer. The pin got bent and broke off attempting to gently straighten w/pliers. I was able to get the broken pin w/housing connected and it works fine. This is a temporary fix since the plug is unstable--I won't push my luck by moving it.
What are my options? I can't afford $80 for a new power supply. This is a refurbished computer that I've owned since March 2004 with no problems.
iBook G3   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   900 MHz, PowerPC, 128 MG

Of course mine is genuine. Apple replaced it when the one I bought broke. If it had been counterfeit, I think they would have complained when I sent it in for the exchange. If that would have happened, I would have asked Shentech to step up to the plate, since it was advertised as genuine.
Yellowed paper and printing could mean it's from coming from an environment where smokers are present. However, the misspellings are a dead giveaway. You're probably right about yours not being genuine.
I bought the 65-watt model adapter from Shentech, thinking my battery would charge a little faster. Nope. The iBook G4 recognizes either the 45-watt or 65-watt adapter as giving the battery 50 watts (according to System Profiler).

  • Why is my battery % getting lower even when my power adapter is connected

    Hi!
Got my new macbook pro few months back. At first I loaded battery to full and totally empty about 3 times. Currently it has 14 cycle counts. I mainly use my computer with power adapter plugged in. When I charge it to 100% then afther time passes it goes 99%, 98%, 97%... but all this time my power adapter is plugged in. When I unplug it and run it on battery and then plug power adapter in again and when it reached 100% then again afther time passes and with power adapter still plugged in, it starts to go from 100% to 99..98..97%. At this time I usually unplug it, run it on battery and then again plug it in. Whatever the % when power adapter is plugged in (100%, 99%, 98%, 97%), Time view shows always "charged". I haven't let it drop more that 97% before I unplug it, run it on battery for a while and then plug it in again.
If I let it drop more than 97% (although power adapter is plugged in) will it eventually drop to 0% and time view still shows "charged" ?
All this time I have about 3 word documents open that I'm working on, 1 pdf document open and safari with different dictionaries all at once and time afther time I shearch the internet.
Is that normal with these applications running or not?
    Why is that?
My older computer, macbook, when it's power adapter was plugged in, it always showed 100%.
    Any word of advice?

That is normal behavior. The power will drop several percent before the charge function kicks in. If you leave it on power you'll notice it start to charge somewhere around 96% maybe 95%.
You can just leave it plugged in and it'll take care of itself.

  • Can I use my normal power adapter in another country without damaging my computer?

I just bought a brand new MacBook Air in the UK a couple of months ago, but now I'm moving to Mexico. I want to know if I can keep using the power adapter that came with my laptop, just adding a plug compatible with Mexican outlets. Will it damage my computer at all??

No, there's no danger to either the power adapter, or your computer.  You may need an AC prong adapter, and it's best to buy one after you arrive in your new location.

  • US IBook AC plug adapter into European MacBook power adapter?

    Hello everybody,
I have a MacBook white, bought in France, and I would like to use it in the US. Some years ago I bought a power adapter for my IBook G3 in the US, so I kept the AC plug adapter. Do you think it is safe to use the old AC plug adapter with the new power adapter? It looks just like the plugs shown in the Apple World Travel Adapter Kit, but I prefer to be sure. I just don’t want to burn my Mac!
    Hoping someone could help…

Perfectly fine. It's a standard connector that Apple hasn't changed in years. It's an extremely simple passive connection with no electronics. I've been freely swapping the adapter plugs from iBook, MacBook, and iPod power adapters.

  • Why does my macbook only turn on when the power adapter is plugged in?

The battery life says its at 73% and climbing but whenever I unplug my power adapter the mac automatically shuts down and if I try to turn on the macbook without my power adapter plugged in, it wont turn on. How do I make it go back to where I can turn the mac on without it being plugged in? Thank you for your help!

I would try two things the first being resetting the System Management Controller:
    1) If the computer is on, turn it off.
    2) Disconnect the AC Adapter and remove the computer's battery.
    3) Press and hold down the power button for 5 seconds and then release the button.
    4) Reconnect the battery and AC Adapter.
    5) Press the Power button to restart the computer.
If that doesn't work I would recalibrate the battery.
    To calibrate the battery:
    1) Plug in the MagSafe power adapter and fully charge the MacBook or MacBook Pro battery until the light on the MagSafe connector changes to green and the Battery icon in the menu bar indicates that the battery is fully charged.
    2) Allow the battery to rest in the fully charged state for two hours or longer. You may use your computer during this time as long as the power adapter is plugged in.
    3) Disconnect the power adapter with the computer on and start using it with battery power. When the battery's charge gets low, you’ll see the low battery warning dialog on the screen.
    4) Continue to keep your computer turned on until it goes to sleep. Save your work and close all applications when the battery's charge gets low and before the computer goes to sleep.
    5) Turn off the computer or allow it to sleep for five hours or longer.
    6) Reconnect the power adapter and leave it connected until the battery is fully charged. You may use your computer during this time.

You'll certainly need a new logic board.
If I were you, I would take the machine into your local Apple Store or an AASP and have them evaluate the problems and give you an estimate for repair. If you're out of warranty, be prepared to pay a very high price to get your computer repaired.
    Good luck,

  • When The MBP is plugged in (power adapter) what happens with the battrey

I have the newest Macbook pro, the one you cant take the battrey out from..
I just want to be sure, when my macbook pro is using the adapter, the battrey life time is being saved, is that correct?
I ust to plug in my iPod and another hardrive for time machine, i just want to know that the both of them wont eat my battrey, and anyway, that i use my battrey correct by using most of the time the power adapter and not the battrey...
thanks for the answers to come...
    **sorry for my lame Eglish...**

+when my macbook pro is using the adapter, the battrey life time is being saved, is that correct?+
Even when you have AC power connected there may be times it draws power from the battery as well, that's the way it's designed to manage power peaks.
Apple suggest you use the battery for a while every day then re-charge it and every couple of months re-calibrate it for best long term performance.

  • MacBook Pro 17" power adapter lights orange when NOT plugged into laptop.

My MacBook Pro power adapter lights up orange even though it is not plugged into a device. When I do plug it into my laptop it remains the same and does not charge. Due to this my laptop is now dead. What does this orange light mean?

You should take both your MBP(Macbook Pro) and your power adapter to an Apple Genius bar or an AASP(Authorized Apple Service Provider) for a free evaluation. This is a strange occurance, and it seems that it may be a hardware malfunction.
Make an appointment so you don't have to wait too long.

  • If I always have my MB Pro plugged into the power adapter. . . .

If I always have my MB Pro plugged into the power adapter, will my battery still wear out as it would if I were depleting and recharging it daily?
I tend to find a power outlet anywhere that I go in order to run my MB Pro on the adapter rather than using battery power. It's a habit that formed while using my 6 year old Powerbook G4 with about 5 minutes of battery life per full charge.
I understand that it shouldn't wear out to the same extent as running the battery down constantly, but is there still a significant effect?
Does the adapter bypass a full battery and power the computer directly?
I feel like an idiot asking this question, but I am really curious.
Thanks in advance for your responses.

Can I keep the magsafe power adapter plugged in to my computer from the power source at all times?

it is ok to keep it in all the time, BUT at least once a month let it run the battery down to 10-15% then do a full recharge.

  • Ibook Indigo 466SE Touchpad unresponsive when power adapter plugged in.

I've had this power adapter for about a year now (after the OEM adapter was damaged). I mostly use this as a backup to our desktop or when traveling (which is rare due to the economy). About two weeks ago I started to notice that the touchpad was sticky. I also noticed alot of interference when I hooked it up to the TV while the power adapter was attached.
Should I be worried? Do I need a new adapter (or an OEM adapter)?
Any help would be appreciated, I love this limited buy still quite functional old ibook.

When you go to the Support in the main webpage, you select iBook, and in the left side there`s a lot of useful articles, I found this that could be related to your trackpad problem. Check this: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1449
    it says this: {quote} Apple has had some reports of this behavior related to power supplies made by a third party company. If you are using one of these power adapters, unplug it and try running from the Apple battery to see how the trackpad behaves. Also try using the Apple AC adapter instead of the third-party AC adapter. If the trackpad behaves normally while running from the Apple battery or adapter, there is most likely an issue with your third-party adapter.{quote}
You can also check the trackpad cable (you need to remove the RAM shield)
