Damaged power cable

I only bought my first macbook pro in September but it has been giving me some troubles. first after it goes to sleep while charging, when I try to turn it on it goes back to sleep for a second time without me doing anything.
And now (I have no idea how it happened although it has only been in my desk) my power cable has some damages that I believe are not very safe. There are two holes where I can see some kind of wires (silver). Does apple replace it for free?

Te only thing you can do is take the system and the AC charger to Apple and have them look at it. If they determine the power cord damage is from a manufacturing defect they will replace it under warranty. If they determine it is from User Abuse, whether it is or not, then they will not replace it and you will need to buy a new one.
Do you have any animals in the house, like a cat? If so it may be that beast that caused the damage. Cats seem to love the Apple AC charger cables.

  • Damage power cable question

My apartment had about 30 inches of water in it the past day or so. I forgot to move the 3 prong cable that plugs into the wall. Is was sitting in the water. My first question is can the cable be salvaged. My second is, where can I get a cheap replacement? Will the link below work on my summer 09 Macbook Pro 13"?

If only the AC cord was underwater, and not the adapter brick, the cord will be fine once it's totally dry. If the brick was underwater, discard and replace it.
If you want to replace the cord, the one you've linked will be fine.

  • Macbook power cable damaged

basically my power cable that came with my 2013 macbook pro seems to have like a rip in it but stills works so i have taped it up. But was wondering do you think i could get apple to replace it under warranty? even though it works.

The power adapter has the same warranty as the MBA it came with.  Bring it in to an Apple store (with the MBA).
    Ciao.

  • I live in the US but am moving to the UK. I have a iMac and want to know if I can just exchange the power cable or will I need a transformer to be able to use it there?

I have had my iMac for about a year and have just found out that I am moving to the UK from the US. I want to take it but I don't want to damage it. Can I just get a replacement power cable in the UK (like the international switchable plugs for iPads) or will I have to use a step-down transformer? Thanks

Just the plug-end needs changed.  I the UK you should beable to find the cord that plugs into the back of the iMac and has the correct wall-end.

  • [GeForce 6] Geforce 6800 128MB - Computer won't boot with add. power cable conne

I've had my computer set up in it's current configuration for about a year now except that I've recently replaced (RMA) my motherboard and it's been working solidly for the past two weeks.  I was playing a game yesterday, hit <Escape> to go to options and then my computer shut off.  After unplugging everything from the motherboard, I have found out that the computer won't turn back on if I have the additional power cable attached to the video card.  If I have the power cable attached to the video card, the computer will turn on for about a second, and turn off.  The power LED won't stay on, the CPU fan won't turn, even the power supply fan won't turn.  When I detach the power cable from the video card, my computer will power on, but I get a horrible screech (which I assume is the video card warning that the necessary power cable isn't attached).  In this case, all fans on the system start turning, even the video card fan.  So, I turn off the computer within a few seconds to make sure I don't damage anything.  I have tried using different power connectors from the power supply to the video card to make sure it wasn't just one particular power cable.
My question is: Is the video card at fault, or my power supply?
I'm hesitant to test the video card on the only other system available to me (My girlfriend's 5 year old Gateway with a 200W power supply [+12V 6A Max] which I'm using to post this thread) for fear of damaging it.  And unfortunately, the video card in my girlfriend's computer is of a way older AGP style which won't fit into my motherboard (for testing).

    Glenn,
I cleared the CMOS, as suggested, and nothing has changed from my previous post.  I'm trying to figure out if the video card is now drawing too much power from the power supply, indicating something went wrong with the video card or if something went wrong with the power supply in that it now can't handle the power being drawn from the video card.  I disconnect all my hard/optical drives power connections, so that the power supply is powering only the motherboard and video card and it's the same story.
    NEXT DAY UPDATE:
I bought a SmartPower 2.0 350W Antec power supply from Circuit City to test my situation further.  I get the same problems even with the new power supply, so I'm certain that the video card is drawing too much power from the Molex power connector.  Time to RMA MSI ASAP.  If anyone has any suggestions please feel free to comment on this thread.

  • Hi-Fi power cable problem

Wondering if anyone else has had this problem...
I bought an iPod Hi-Fi the other day, and it seems to be working well with one small problem - the power cable. I've tried plugging it into a power strip, and directly into the wall - I've tried a number of outlets, but every time I do it, the same thing happens: it sparks when I plug it in, and it plays for a few seconds, and then stops (no power).
What's more, two of the outlets that I've tested seem to no longer work after plugging in the Hi-Fi. Now granted, I'm living in Thailand and some of the wiring in my house is a little ... strange, but I've never had this problem with any other Mac equipment at my house, or for that matter, any other appliances, including those that should be sucking up more electricity (refrigerator, etc.)
Any suggestions? I'm now stuck with a brand new Hi-Fi that I can only run on D batteries. Thanks.

I believe there is some problem inside your iPod HiFi - you have to send it for service, and do not plug to the ac charger as it will damage the iPod HiFi

  • Power cable or no Power cable ??

    HI all,
For some reason I found that If I use the MBP, without the battery IN and obviously plugged in to the mains, the over heating problem under the F1-F3 keys disappears, now that was some useless info. for you.
My question is: I use The MBP a lot (at the moment) on a desk, hence with access to the mains, now to avoid having the battery ALWAYS charging or connected to the mains, I take the battery out. The question is: am I actually or potentially creating other problem, by having the MBP running on the main with NO battery? or am I doing a good thing if, once again I have constant access and use the MBP in an office/home environment? I can always charge the battery when I know that I will need it. Am I missing something? can I do this without creating other problems, Is it a wise move ?
Your thought, knowledge is kindly appreciated, I would hate to damage the MBP.
    Thank you,
    DC

In my experience, heat is very bad for Lithium Ion batteries. You can't really avoid heat, if you are using the laptop for anything significant. I use my G4 PowerBook a lot for World of Warcraft, so the it probably runs a bit hotter than most others. I received a new battery as part of the battery exchange program less than a year ago and the new one has about 75 cycles. The capacity estimates range from 1.3Ah to 3Ah - the original capacity was 4Ah.
On my G3/Pismo, I have a 7Ah battery and some old, almost dead Apple batteries. I keep the 7Ah battery on a shelf when it's not needed and rely on the worn batteries for keeping the PowerBook running if there's a short power problem. The replacement battery is older than the one in my G4, but it's still in nearly perfect condition (Lithium Ion batteries age even when they are not used, but aging is much faster if heat up).
If you want to have good "on the road" battery capacity, I would advise investing in two batteries. Keep one of them in the MacBook Pro when it's plugged in and the other one only when unplugged (and to charge it up again once you get back).
I cheap/lightweight 1-2Ah battery would be great for taking the baking treatment my batteries get when I'm using my laptop at home. No one offers them, so you either risk running your MacBook without a battery (risking loss of data if the power cable comes out accidentally) or you slowly sacrifice a relatively expensive Apple battery by baking it in the heat of an active MacBook.
If your computing needs are modest and your laptop runs cool, it will probably take more than a year for the battery to degrade significantly.

  • Replacement power cable

The power cable for my iMac was destroyed. I am told at the iShop that I cannot purchase a replacement as they are not sold separately.  I was then warned not to use any other brand or I could damage the desktop.  Huh?? Where do I go from here?  Please help.

    >> warned not to use any other brand or I could damage the desktop
I wouldn't have a problem using one short-term, the only issue that is w/o the circular surround, if the cable gets knocked/pulled it would put strain on the internals.

  • HT1338 Power cable for Macbook not working / Apple Care discount?

My power cable for my Macbook stopped working. I went to the bookstore at my school and at first they told me I could get a discount on a new one ($29 instead of $79) because I have Apple Care. Then they told me that was a mistake and I have to pay full price even though I have Apple Care... True/false????

It appears your Macbook is at least 2 years old. If you have the extended warranty and there is no physicla damage to your power adapter, then you "might" be eligible for a free replacement.
Have you tried replacing the duckhead adapter yet? That's the part that normally fails first.

  • Satellite Pro L20 - power cable overheating

    Hello
For several months I've had problems with keys suddenly working intermittently. Although brushing below keys with a toothbrush eased the problem for a while it obviously wasn't the main cause. Different keys each time, so not attributable to individual damaged keys.
When unplugging the power cable the metal part is very hot, and I've worked out the keys problem happens only when the computer is running on a/c AND the battery is fully charged. In other words, no problem on battery or re-charging battery. The adapter is also hot but presume this is 'normal'.
The power cable has been tested directly from another socket and not running from the usual belkin surge protector, so external sources seem ruled out. I have been trying to find another cable/adapter to test but living very rurally doubt this will be possible/practical.
The fan seems to be running OK, the air coming out the side is very warm. It doesn't appear to be dust-clogged. The area of laptop above the fan also gets warm.
Sometimes the computer crashes to black screen or blue screen (on iplayer most recently, maybe other progs too) but sound continues. I off by holding the on button for 5 seconds but it won't power on again for a while. I assume from overheating. But not certain this is always on a/c-not charging, it may be on a/c-charging as well.
Sometimes the computer seems confused whether it's re-charging, on a/c or on battery. At least the icon switches, and requires a session of unplugging before getting it right.
Other times it's the angel machine it's been for the last two years! It's a Satellite Pro L20, the adapter is LiteOn 65W clover, 19V 3.42a. part no PA3396E-1ACA (which I see Is no longer available).
Have searched through but not found any similar problems, but hope someone can advise me what to do next!
    Many thanks in advance

    Hi
I had the L20 series several years ago and as far as I can remember the DC in was at the back near the left notebooks side.
The cooling modules are placed at the left too and I assume the AC adaptor plug could be a little bit warmer due to the hot air which flows out from the left.
But listen Robin, this is only my personal theory and speculation and as the previous user already said, this issue could be related to the faulty AC adaptor too.
Therefore contact the ASP in your country and ask for the further handling.
Possibly the technicians will need the faulty part for a check and you will need to send it.
Anyway. contact the guys and ask for the help.
    Good luck

  • Macbook Pro 2011 DVI HDMI out does not work with TV when the power cable is connected

My Macbook Pro (Early 2011) DVI HDMI out does not work with TV when the power cable is connected. If get the blue screen and then can use the macbook but nothing is displayed on the TV. If i go into display I can see that there are two screens but nothing displayed on the TV. If i take the power cable out at this point the TV shows the second desktop as expected. If i then reconnect the cable, the screen flickers, as though it is being affected by the power cable, and the screen goes blank on the TV. Only if i remove the DVI cable do i get the blue screen again. If i remove the power cable and reconnect it will do it every single time, so i cannot see it being a TV issue or a minor glitch.
I have had this working previously but at the minute it seems to not be playing ball....any thoughts
    Thanks

  • Does anybody knows where can i buy a replacement AC power cable for my cinema display 27"?

Does anybody knows where can i buy a replacement AC power cable for my cinema display 27"?

It may not be the same molded plug but I would think any normal 3-prong computer power cable should work.
    How about this one?
922-6529 Power Cord - Apple Cinema Display
I've always had the theory that if you put two computer power cords in a drawer they will breed and you'll end up with a lot more!   My parts drawer is always full of them.  They like to knot up by themselves as well!  Maybe that's how they breed.
