Damaged power cord for macbook pro?

My power cord is damaged at the point that it plugs into the little white box. I looked in the store to find the power cord but didn't see it. Does anyone know if they sell this cord separately? It is no longer charging and soon my computer will be down.

While not as pretty you can simply use a standard electroncis C8 cable like the one that goes to your VCR (or other) device. Otherwise, you can also use the plug adapter that came in your box although it won't give the same length as the cable does.
If you do want to spend the extra money to replace it you should be able to get it from an authorised service centre as a service part else from a parts relaeeler like PB Parts…

  • Where to get an extra power cord for Macbook Pro

I purchased an additional 85w Mag Safe power adapter for my Macbook Pro assuming it would come with both the adapter and the extension cord. However, I only received the adapter with the cable that attaches to the computer. After researching this item it seems that the extension cord is not available, either with or separate from the adapter. This cord was included with the adapter in the new computer box. Does anyone know how/where I can obtain this extension cord to use with my second adapter?

My adaptor fried itself in under six months and apple charged me $105 for the replacement. I was so disappointed that they charged me. Thought everything was warranteed.
    Amy-
I've had my MBPro for almost four months (love it. A few days ago, I thought I noticed the green light dimmer than usual. It continued to dim for 36-48 hours until it finally disappeared. No amber, either. I can use the machine on AC power, but the battery will not charge (it's at 82%, period). I tried everything first: reset SMC, reset PMU, safe mode. No luck.
Called Apple Tech Support yesterday (Sunday), explained the situation, and after very few questions the Rep said they'd ship me a replacement AC adapter & cord via FedEx Overnight (arriving Tuesday). He said a prepaid FedEx shipping label will be included so I can return the failed unit.
NOTE: I do NOT have Extended AppleCare (i.e., my 90-days of free telephone support has expired). But because this is a hardware problem, it is covered under a 1-year warranty on hardware.
Something's not right, Amy. Definitely call Apple Support (800-275-2273 in the US) - report my experience if you wish - and ask them why your case was any different than mine (it wasn't). (I wonder ... Was it an Apple Store that made the original "you have to pay" decision? Maybe someone just didn't understand all the terms of the warranty?)
    Hope this helps.
    Good luck,
    Ken

  • Partial power cord for MacBook Pro?

I have a broken power cord on a MacBook Pro 13-inch early 2011 model. Is there a way to buy the part of the cord that attaches to the computer without shelling out $79 for the whole thing with the power block?

They are for sale on eBay.
But how do you propose to connect it? The connections are inside the power block, which is glued shut. There is no simple plug, these cords require soldering.
Is the cord at the computer-end frayed? it might be replaced as a safety issue if frayed.

  • Power Cord for Macbook Pro 5.1

I have a Macbook Pro 5.1 that I bought in 2009. My powercord just broke. Can you tell me which kind of power cord I need? 60W or 85 W? Is there anything else I need to know about buying one - I am just getting it from apple.

If it's the 15" October 2008 (2.4/2.53/2.8 GHz) March 2009 (2.66/2.93 GHz) then you will need the 85W.

  • What's the power Adapter for Macbook pro 13inch Mid 2012

What's the power Adapter for Macbook pro 13inch Mid 2012 with core i-7, 2.9ghz, 8Gb ram?
AFAIK it should be a 60wat Megasafe power adapter.
But mine shipped with a 45Watt Megasafe. I got it as a Gift from my friend.
    Thanks in Advance.

This should be my Adapter right?
    Yes.
There is a drawback in addition to taking a longer time to charge up your MBP.  In unusual instances when using your MBP with power adapter attached, and running a very heavy load on the CPU/GPU, the MBP will require additional electrical resources in addition to what the power adapter can provide.  It will then draw upon the battery.  What this means is that using a 45 watt adapter, these conditions are more likely to occur.
Using a 45 watt adapter should not harm your MBP as such.
    Ciao.

  • MacBook power cord with MacBook Pro?

    Hi,
I have a MacBook at home, and a MacBook Pro provided by my company for work. Can I use the power cord from my MacBook to charge the Pro??
My understanding is that it will still work, but it will just charge the MBP battery slower. Is that correct?
    Thanks,
    SS

Can I use the power cord from my MacBook to charge the Pro??
Charge as in only charge the MBP (i.e., closed lid). There won't be enough juice for using and charging consistently at the same time, depending on what you would be doing, which may actually lead to the battery discharging while connected to the smaller power brick.

  • Is it possible to fix the cable of the Power Adapter for MacBook Pro?

The cable of my power adaptor for my Macbook pro is broken, but the adatpor itself is fine, so I am wondering if it possible to replace that cable.

    Where's it broken?
If you have enough space between the connector and/or the case.
Here's one of mine that I repaired:
There's only 2 conductors in there. One acts as a shield.
So 3 pieces of shrink tubing. Prepare the conductors so you can proceed as follows.
    Solder the inner conductor together.
Slide one piece of shrink tubing to down to cover that splice completely - shrink.
    Solder the outer shield together.
Cover w/ the second piece of shrink tubing - shrink.
Cover the entire repair w/ shrink tubing - shrink.

  • Australian Extension Cord for Macbook Pro

I bought an extension cord with an Australian plug for my macbook pro.  On the end that connects  to the adapter it reads "2.5A 250V".  But on the plug it reads "10A 250V". Should I be wary of this?

Since you are still under warranty, call Apple Care.  Maybe they can recommend a solution.

  • Can I use a Macbook power adaptor for MacBook Pro ?

    Hi,
Is its safe to use a power adaptor from a Macbook (white), to charge my Macbook Pro.
The difference is in the output of the adaptors: 3.65A (Macbook) vs. 4.56A (Macbook Pro).
    Thanks,
    Ori

In the past, I had an IBM Thinkpad laptop, when my adapter broke, I borrowed an adapter from a colleague. This adapter also had a lower capacity than the original adapter (I don't remember by how much).
It ran really hot but the Thinkpad would run fine on it, though it would only charge the battery if I turned it off... So either charging the battery or working with the laptop...
I'd say use it until you get the chance to buy a new one...

  • Power adapter for macbook pro has problems...wire is breaking/tearing apart

I bought my Macbook pro between a year to a year and a half. lately i have seen the charger sort of tearing or breaking below the magnetic part and also when it starts going through to the big white power supply thing( dont know what its called!!). Also lately i have seen that sometimes my charger works but today its not working at all and ive tried vaious power points. DO u think this is a serious problem and i should see apple care or what? Also since my warranty has expired should apple cover the costs? Please help!!Thanks!!

Same problem here (after 1 1/2 year).
Take a look at the customer ratings in the Apple Online Store, there are many people with the same problem:

Maybe we should collect the issues and address this to Apple together... !

  • Power Requirements for MacBook Pro 13 inch

Are there lower power requirments for the 13 inch MBP from the 15 and 17 inch?
I understand that the 15 and 17 require 85 watts of power output, but when I was shopping for a power inverter, they mention a 60 watt would work for the 13 inch MBP.
Mostly curious. Most of the power inverters I am looking at offer more than enough output (100 watts+).
    Thanks in advance.

Yes, the smaller models use smaller batteries that do not require as high a charging power or power to run with no battery present.
If you were to use an inverter to convert DC to AC then it's a good idea to get one with a power capability about twice what will be connected to it in order to allow for surges.

  • Third party power adaptor for MacBook Pro?

I am about to lose my second power pack due to under-engineered wiring on these Apple power supplies. The wires are very small and thin, and the strain relief at the entrance to the "brick" is totally inadequate, so the wires end up breaking under daily use. I looked at the iGo website, only to find out that there is some sort of licensing issue with Apple that prevents them from selling tips for the magnetic connectors that are in vogue. Kensington apparently doesn't supply any Apple adaptors anymore.
Does anyone know of a third party company that makes a replacement power supply that will hold up under normal usage for more than a year?
    Thanks

    Hi Justin,
The very first of the square power adaptors (which came with an early white iBook) which we own developed a problem of the kind you mention. Since then we've done one simple thing with all of the many that have followed with a variety of iBooks, PBs, MBs and MBPs, and never lost another.
We simply make a loose loop of the cord around one of the "legs" of the adaptor:
We leave the loop in place both when using the computer and when winding the cord around the legs for transport.
Not what you were asking for, I know, but it has certainly stopped any problems we have had with strain on the cord
    Cheers
    Rod

  • Water Damaged Fixing Cost For Macbook Pro

Alright so I was just wondering if I take my macbook to get fixed for water damage right now, would the charge to fix it be the same as if I would use it until a problem comes up?
I know that if I turn it on it will still work, but I just want to know if it could be cheaper if the water damage is not that significant if there would be a cheaper price for apple to fix it.
Or if there is just a flat rate of about 800 dollars

If it's water damaged, just forget sinking any money into it.
One thing fixed and another part corrodes and it fails again for more money.
Get the storage drive out and sell it for parts.
My computer is not working, is my personal data lost?
