Damaged Quicktime File after Timecode in FCP

Hello,
I modified the timecodes of a number of Quicktime files which are stored on our shared server EDITSHARE. I access Editshare via afp protocol.  Now, these files are corrupted and cannot be opened.
These files were originally @ 5GB and about 14 minutes each.  After being corrupted, they were only 1.1GB and 2 minutes each
I have been researching and read somewhere that if you modify timecode via FCP7 on a file that is stored in a volume that is not Mac formatted or from a network drive, then the file can get corrupted.
Can anyone point me to a solution to this as I desperately need these files?

I appreciate the feedback.  I checked the processes upon AE start and found that the Adobe QT server32 starts then closes in the processes before AE actually loads up.  If it is supposed to remain open, it does not.  I can not find where to change its permissions.  I looked the site you sent a link to, but do not see that section.

  • Problem viewing Quicktime files after export

So a few months ago, I finished a number of projects in Final Cut Express.  I exported them as self-contained .mov files and kept those files in their own folder.  Today, I try to open/play those Quicktime files, Quicktime opens and says "loading video", and only audio plays.  No video.  Weird.
What I want to do is upload these videos to YouTube, so I opened MPEG Streamclip in an attempt to transfer these apparently corrupt files into a .mp4 format.  When I drag and drop the Quicktime files into MPEG Streamclip (the title of the first .mov file I tried is "1 Naitram On the Road to Syndicate"), I get this: "The movie file "1 Naitram On- FIN - 00000002 cannot be found.  Without this file, the movie cannot play properly".
When I first exported these projects into .mov files a few months back, I was able to watch them in Quicktime.  Now, I cannot.  Why would this be?  Can a file just corrupt like that over time?  Are these files beyond saving?  Thanks..

    Thanks Al..
The files originally used were imported from my Canon Vixia HF G10; I guess you would call them AVCHD files?  Anyways, when the files were imported, a scratch disc folder as well as a Render Files folder was created.  I arranged the imported clips in my sequence to make a two minute long videos, then exported as self-contained movie files.  Would having tampered with or deleted these Render Files even AFTER exporting have corrupted the QuickTime file?  ....because I may have done that..

  • Cannot Read Quicktime file after exporting project from iMovie

    Hello,
I've exported my iMovie project twice as a Quicktime Full Quality file, but it doesn't allow me to open it. It says "cannot read file", I've tried everything - I have the latest version of Quicktime and Windows Media Player and even transferred the Quicktime file to a Windows machine and the same thing happens. I can't import Video, Audio, Background Video, or Image on iDVD as it says File Not Supported...
    Please help!
    Chris

    It says "cannot read file",
What says that? iMovie, QT Player, ...?
Is that ALL "it" says? No error code?

  • Recovering full quicktime file after trimming

I recently wanted to extract a small segment of a large quicktime file to send to a friend. I used quicktime 7 (don't like the new one) to trim it down to the desired length. I accidentally hit <save> and now I can't get the whole clip to play again. The size of the file in my Finder is the same as it was before but only the shortened clip will play. Is there any way to recover this? Thanks in advance for any help.

    It says "cannot read file",

  • No Audio In QuickTime File After Tape Capture

I have been using Premiere CS6 to capture some old tapes through a Matrox MXO2 unit.  The video and audio is playable through Premiere but isn’t available in other applications, particularly Quicktime Player.  Quicktime shows that the format is 24 bit integer (Little Endian), but no audio plays outside Premiere or after converting to other formats in Adobe Media Encoder.  The video is fine regardless of whatever codec I use to capture (tried Prores, DV and Uncompressed), but no audio is usable outside Premiere.
This is the error message I get when I try to open a captured file outside Premiere.
“Additional software is required for QuickTime to playback this media.  It may be available from the QuickTime Components page”
I’ve been in contact with Matrox tech support and they have no answers.  I’ve posted Apple’s Quicktime forum and had no feedback.  I’m just wondering at this point if any Premiere users have run into issues like this capturing from tape sources.

Exporting these files to other formats like H.264 also creates a file without playable audio.
Having access to the files in a common format like Quicktime is essential to this project as they will be accessed later by people who don't have access to Premiere.
I have captured through Matrox's very inadequate basic capture tool and gotten files with sound, but cannot use that application because it lacks device control, batch capturing capability and timecode support.  It made me wonder if the problem is somewhere in Premiere's side of the capture process.

  • Quicktime files now corrupt in FCP

HI. Hope someone can help on this one. I shot a project on P2 cards last week and a friend imported the files through a laptop to an external. All of those files registered in the bin on FCP.
The power went out and we required data recovery with transfer to another drive.
When I opened the FCP file, it said that half of the media of that file was missing. The files are there, but now refuse to open. Tried VLC, Compressor, QT Player etc., but the files won't open. They are still there, and still 300 mb in size. How can these files be repaired please? Why only half the files. I need a genius on this one. I'm in deep. THANKS!
mac pro G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Big Huevos

    Yes, you are in deep.
Time to either: go to your P2 card to recapture or your backups. You did clone the media to another drive ... right?
If you have neither - well - it looks like it will be a very painful lesson.

  • I have problems with my quicktime files

    Hello,
I have problems with my quicktime files, after effects tell me: "this Moov file is damaged or unsupported" it is not true, i had worked yesterday without problems. Please help me i can´t work.

David, you are describing the same problem. CS6 = Good with QuickTime. CS CC = Problems with QuickTime. But Tim's suggestion just worked for me. Perhaps it will work for you too.

  • After Effects CC stopped working with QuickTime files

I can not reliably use QuickTime (Animation or ProRes codec) in my timeline. I also can't export to QuickTime. I believe accepting the latest update to CC or my system software initiated this problem. I did not have this problem last week. I have converted all of my source QTs to .PNG sequences and .AIFs as a work-around.
    System Details:
    CS 6 CC | Mac OS 10.8.4 | MacPro5,1 | 96 GB Ram | PROJECT & MEDIA drive: Mercury Accelsior > 500 MB/s read/write | CACHE drive: Mercury Accelsior > 500 MB/s read/write | Nvidia Quadro 4000 Mac | CUDA Driver: latest update.
    Troubleshooting Info:
    • I've read this article: http://blogs.adobe.com/aftereffects/2011/02/troubleshooting-quicktime-errors-with-after-ef fects.html
    • I don't have Blackmagic or Aja, but I do have Nvidia Quadro 4000 Mac with the latest Nvidia and Cuda drivers. I'll try uninstalling... but I may want to raytrace in the coming days.
    • I've trashed the 12.0 folder and rebooted many times
    • repaired permissions
    • Multi-threding on/off doesn't matter
    update
    • "QT32Server process" appears then disappears Activity Monitor when I try to render ProRes (output module fails...)
    • No firewall
    • Uninstaled Nvidia driver. Restarted. Same problems.
    and then
    • Created a fresh admin user. This seems to work for now: I can read and write QTs through AE again. I'll update if there are any changes.
    update again
    • Once again, I  can not import ProRes QTs into AE CC. Making a new user only worked for 2 launches. The only software I used with this system/new user was Adobe AE CC, PS CC, and Safari.
    Any suggestions?
    Best,
    Benjamin

    Hello,
My team and I have been following this thread - we've been having very similar issues. Namely the 86::2 error and "MooV file is damaged or unsupported."
We had these issues on two machines from the first time we ran Ae CC and Pr CC early last week and were on OS 10.7.5. So we did a clean install and upgraged to Mountain Lion.
System Info: CS 6 | FCP 7 | 2x2.93 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon | 64 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 ECC | NVIDIA Quadro 4000 2048 MB | OS X 10.8.4 | Latest CUDA drivers | AJA KonaLHi drivers 10.4.4 (we have moved back from 10.4.5 upon reccomendation from AJA tech support.)
The second machine is the same as above, but with 20 GB of ram.
(Red Giant plugins were installed after the crashes on the clean install)
We are networked with an XSAN.
On my machine, the first listed above, I seem to have stemmed the issue in Ae by uninstalling Premiere. Without Premiere none of the problems in AE occur.
On my clean install the timeline of app installation went: first FCP, then Ae, then Pr. When I installed Premiere the problems arose again, 86::2 error and MooV error and the issue still arrises on the 20 GB machine when switching between Ae and Pr.
    I hope that makes sense.
We will troubleshoot the Quicktime files tomorrow. I hope this can be helpful!
    Thanks.

  • Can't add effects to source quicktime files in FCP 5 Academic

I'm working on a project for someone, and their source files are .mov files. They have already composed the files into the timeline and they need some color correction done to some of the clips. When I double-click the clips on the timeline and open them up in the viewer, I drag the color correction filter over to that clip in the viewer. When I change the color settings in the filter tab, nothing happens to the clip. When I drag the color correction filter to the source file in the browser, I can make the changes that I need, but when I put it into the timeline the changes aren't there. I have never had this problem, but I usually work with files that I capture myself as mpegs. Is there an issue with the source quicktime files?

    hey there,
i'm cool. but tired. sorry that i got that wrong... just like "yep, i'm a bit of a n00b but not that much..."
    alright...
the procedures that both of you were describing are just exactly what i do. exactly. DRAGGING filter onto the clip, DOUBLECLICKING the clip, CHOOSING filter in viewer, MODIFYING the filter, CHECKING the result in viewer - video.
    no effect.
to answer your questions one after another...
    - i use fcp 6.0.3
    - tried to apply standard fcp built-in filters (sorry, don't know the english labels for 'em... but whatever: ANY filter i use HAS NO EFFECT)
    - source material is .mov, dv-pal, pal-ccir 601, 720*576, no alpha, normal composite-mode.
    - yesterday, i trashed fcp preferences with fcprescue6. didn't help, obviously.
    - repaired file permissions.
    - i searched the forum for 2hrs. negative result (apart from this thread opened by jjzlbass)
    - what i didn't do yet was to reinstall the whole thing. if nothing else helps, i'm going to try this...
once again, i hope to be clever enough to follow standard operating procedures when applying filters. but: neither audio nor video filters work in my system anymore.
    i'm grateful for your help

  • UNABLE TO OPEN FCP 6.02 PROJECT FILES AFTER INSTALLING LEOPARD!

**Unable to open FCP 6.02 project files after installing Leopard**. Tested and found that the files can be opened on another computer with OS 10.4.10, but not OS 10.5. Spoke to apple support many times, and have tried reinstalling FCP, but it didn't work.
Apple is now saying to erase my HD and reinstall from scratch. This presents a problem since i have software installed but no disc due to a move, (they are deep in offsite storage).
Anyone have this problem? Anyone know a fix?

    Lynne,
There is a section in the manual on the migration tool... I don't have my machine fired up right now so can't direct you to the exact page. I think a search for migration or migrate should do it.
    Two other things to try:
    1. There have been numerous reports that Quicktime 7.3 is what is killing older projects. According to one of the third party program makers Apple re-wrote Quicktime changing the null value to Zero from minus-one. I'm not a code junkie so can't vouch for this but the upshot would be, go back to Quicktime 7.1 or 7.2 not 7.3
    2. There is a Quicktime plugin called "Perian". For lots of people it has caused numerous problems.
Look for Perian on your machine and if you find it, drag the app to the trash... re boot and try again.
Of course the ultimate solution would be to reinstall Tiger, Final Cut Studio 2 and Quicktime 7.2. So far the most stable combined setup for me and lots of others on G5 machines.
36 degrees and thunderstorms with sleet here this afternoon. The door on my storage unit is staying closed.

  • Quicktime files from PC won't play in FCP

    Hi
I am capturing and keying on a PC (Serious Magic's Ultra) and exporting various kinds of quicktime files: animation, uncompressed etc.
However, none of these files seem to play in FCP, even after rendering. An icon does appear in the time line, and I can play it in a Quick time player but not in FCP(5) - I only get sound.
    Any help appreciated!
    Trevor

ANY time you move between PC and Mac there are inherent problems- but animation ought to work for you. Usually the biggest problem is a proprietary codec on a pc that isn't supported in Mac QT. I'd take a careful look at the settings on the PC app in terms of what you are actually outputting. There might be something really strange...

  • Batch adding Timecode Track into a Quicktime file

    Hey,
Anyone have any idea how I can batch add a timecode track to a heap of Quicktime files and make the timecode 01:00:00:00 on each?
I have a hundreds of quicktime files from a Canon 7D, and it doesn't create a quicktime file with a timecode track. I know I can do it easily within FCP but only one clip at a time, it would be nice to do it in one go.
    Thanks,
    Gus

A little late at the party, but nevertheless...
This (free) tool lets you batch add TC to a bunch of clips, including custom reelnames.
    http://www.videotoolshed.com/?page=products&pID=42
HOWEVER, it does NOT allow you to add THE SAME TC to all clips.
(As i believe that is totally nonsense. In order to get good media management you need different TC's.)
It can do Rec run style (thus, numbering up) or Free run style (using the shoot time for TC, the shoot date for Reelname)
    hth,
    Bouke
** disclaimer, i AM the owner of the product advertised, but since it is FREE, i won't make any money of THIS product, but hope to make some money on other products on my site. **

  • How do I export from FCP to a QuickTime file with multiple audio channels?

I'm delivering a project where the first step is to generate an HD Cam SR master, which I will be doing at a post-production lab. They will then do a QC check for me. To generate this HD Cam SR master, they need to me to bring in my 98-minute long movie on a firewire hard drive, in five equal parts -- QuickTime files. From these five QT files, the lab will then be creating an HD Cam SR master that will have...
dialogue on tracks 1 and 2
effects on tracks 3 and 4
music on tracks 5 and 6
    MY QUESTION
    a) I don't see any way to separate these audio tracks accordingly in the FCP menu for QuickTime export. Does anyone have any experience doing this?
    b) And does anyone know the most efficient way to combine timeline audio tracks for this purpose? I have my dialogue sitting on the first FOUR audio tracks, actually. To deliver this film, I'll need to crush these four audio tracks to two, as listed above. I could generate an AIFF file, I suppose, import it back onto the timeline, sync it up, and then re-export along with the visuals to make the final QT file, but this seems like a generation loss.
    thanks,
    Shanked
PS the movie is made up of footage from a Sony PMW EX1. I used the codec "XDCAM 1080 24p 35mbs VBR" for editing in FCP. I'll either export to QT using this same codec or switch to "Apple ProRes" if my machine can somehow maintain the sync.

The following will answer both your questions a) and b).
Click on your master timeline and press cmd+0 (zero) to bring up Sequence Settings, then click on the Audio Outputs tab on the right. Click on the Outputs option and change it to 6. You can leave them as Stereo pairs.
Now, back on your timeline, you need to make sure all your audio is organised so each track. A1, A2, A3, A4 etc has all the relevant media on it.
Then, on the left of the timeline you see the Destination toggle buttons, then you see the Padlocks to lock tracks, then you have the Toggle Auto Select squares. If you right-click on the Toggle Auto Select squares you bring up a little sub-menu, at the top of this list you'll see Audio Outputs, which will show the stereo channels for that particular track. As you've changed the number of Audio Outputs in the Sequence Settings, the list will show: 1&2, 3&4, 5&6. You just tick whichever channels you want.
In your case, you have dialogue on the first 4 tracks, no problem, just go down through tracks 1,2,3 and 4 as described above and assign these to Audio Outputs 1&2.
Then just go down through your music and effects audio tracks and assign them accordingly.
Now, when you export your timeline as a self-contained media file, it will have different audio channels.
I hope that makes sense. When you change the number of audio outputs as described in the first step, I believe the rest of it is fairly self explanatory, once you know where the settings are.

  • ITunes automatically imports music after re-boots (damaged .itl file)

Every time I start ITunes after my computer has been re-booted, ITunes starts importing my music library and says I have a damaged Music Library file (itl). If I allow ITunes to import my music files then it works fine (all playlists and ratings intact) even if I exit & re-enter the Itunes Application. However, as soon as I reboot the system I get the same damaged file dialog box. Also, I've tried waiting after I have booted the system for a long time to make sure it isn't conflicting with startup processes.
I have a lot of songs and it takes ITunes a long time to import each time, and it is really frustrating. A temporary work-around is that I make a backup copy of the "itl" and "xml" files each time after I exit Itunes when I have made changes. Then after a reboot when I start Itunes, I stop it from importing the library, finding artwork, gapless scan, etc... I copy the previously saved "itl" & "xml" files into the ITunes folder and the ITunes program will then start up correctly with all my music files, ratings & playlists.
    _*A. COMMENTS*_
    1. Since the "itl" file I copy into itunes folder (as per my work-around)is an exact copy of the "itl" file that was originally in the ITunes folder after a reboot, I don't think the ITunes file is actually damaged, since ITunes will boot from this file after Itunes is started a 2nd time. This also shows me that it is not a path issue.
    _*B. SETUP*_
    1. Dell 3.4Ghz Pentium 4
    2. MS Windows XP Home Edition (service pack 3)
    3. Recently upgraded to ITunes 9.0.3.15 (did not resolve problem)
    4. McAfee Security Center virus/firewall software
    5. Ad-Aware spyware checker(resident)
    6. Spy-bot Search and Destroy spyware checker(resident)
    5. My Music files are located in C:\Documents and Settings\My Name\My Documents\My Music\ (itunes folder is also in same folder)
    6. My Itunes Library .itl file is 2,842 KB
    7. My Itunes Music Library .xml file is 16,580 KB
_*C. WHAT I HAVE TRIED SO FAR*_
    1. I have re-installed ITunes
    2. I ran scan disk (fixed errors & checked physical disk). It did say it repaired something with an "XML" extension, but I didn't write it down because I thought it fixed the issue, but I don't think it was the itunes xml file
    3. I cleaned a bunch of junk files (internet cache, etc) and defragged
    4. I completely un-installed ITunes and ran a registry cleaner to remove all references to Itunes, Then I installed ITunes. ITunes imported my library and lost all my ratings & playlists however it found all of my artwork (not just automatically created from internet) I re-used an old .itl file for ratings/playlists. However I did try with the newly imported "itl" file and the same problem was persistent
    5. I tried restoring my computer to month ago when everything was working correctly
    6. I tried for hours looking through multiple forums and the ones that I found that have the same problem (only after reboots) were never resolved. Most of the others just tell people how to get their library back
    7. I tried to call Apple Itunes tech support on the phone and was told that Apple does not provide Itunes phone support for PC's. I did pay good money for 30Gb & 16Gb Iphones, so I am giving Apple Money. I would own a Mac however my profession uses software not supported by Apple.
    _*D. QUESTIONS*_
    1. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? I'm going to try to figure out how to start in some sort of safe mode and log the processes to see if there are any conflicts, but I'm running out of options.
    2. I did copy rather large 1200x12000 artwork from the internet into some of the CD's because I was printing them, however I later removed the artwork and replaced it with 300x300. I noticed the Album artwork Cache & Download folders seems rather large and convoluted. I was thinking about possibly deleting all artwork from my library and deleting these folders to see if there is something in there.
Please Help, I've spent far too many hours trying to resolve this issue. I just don't understand that after uninstalling, and cleaning registry that re-installing didn't fix this issue.

    Followup:
The link you posted wasn't really any help, but I believe I have finally resolved the issue (after 2 consecutive reboots without problems -- knocks on wood). I wish I could single out exactly what resolved the issue, but I went crazy and did a lot of things last night/this morning (and didn't have the patience to reboot after each single change).
Here's a list of a few things I remember doing
    1. Installed updated hardware drivers using Uniblue driver update software (a couple were bundles that affected quite a few things). I booted up this morning only to get a repeated "REFMONINITIALIZATIONFAILED" dialog with the blue screen of death. I wasn't worried as I did a complete backup of all my personal files last night, anticipating a full rebuild today. So the next time I rebooted I used the "last known good configuration".
    2. I don't have any indexing programs (that I'm aware of), but I clicked the library file, xml files and all other files in the itunes library root directory and unchecked the "For fast searching, allow Indexing Service to index this file" box after right clicking and selecting "properties" and then "advanced"
    3. I rolled back ALL Uniblue SpeedUPMYPC2009 system tweaks (except internet) that were automatically done when I ran the program on 1/10/10.
I have a strong inclination that one (or more) of the Uniblue system tweaks did something that prevented my library file from being accessed the first time after after a boot that I started ITunes. I apparently hadn't accessed ITunes for a couple weeks after I ran the Uniblue program, so it didn't register that it could have caused the issue. At some point in the future I'll try to pin down which tweak caused the problem, but for now I've wasted far too much dealing with this and don't care if my computer runs a few milliseconds slower.
    Thank you for responding
