Damaged third party fixed iPhone out of warranty replacement

Okay so the humidity or something yesterday made both my iPad 1 and iPhone 4s screens screw up.
My camera lense fogged up and was all condensation-y so all pics were blurry.
It looks like there is a smudge on the touchscreens. The iPad was typing and click stuff by itself. iPhone keyboard won't let me use the bottom keys in msgs and certain apps so the touchscreen is not responding. iPhone wake/sleep bottom was turning off and on and screenshoting.
It was like the symptoms of water damage except I never dunked them in water or anything and the water damage indicators on iPhone aren't red. I don't know if iPad 1 has water damage indicators.
So right that afternoon I passed apple store on george st, told me they were busy and I had to book an appointment for tommorrow.
I put my iPad in rice last night and it's fine now... Just smudge on the touch screen.
So today I bought my iPhone into the genius bar, hoping to get it fixed or replaced because it's not even 2 years old and if you argue enough the Australia consumer laws blah blah sometimes you can get an out of warranty replacement for free.
By this time, the camera condensation has evaporated and sleep/wake button stopped spazzing but keyboard was still stuffed.
They said they can't do anything, not even offer the $279 replacement, because when I cracked my screen I got it replaced by a third party.
Said it was because the screen is non genuine that my iPhone is acting like this.
Which it isn't, because my iPad also screwed up which has a genuine screen.
Sorry about the essay.
So how does apple tell if I got the screen fixed or not?
Has anybody gotten apple to fix a third party screen replacement phone?
If my iPad didn't start working again, would they have fixed it?

The genuine Apple module has various identifying marks that are missing from a third-party part.  Apple will not attempt to repair an iDevice that was "fixed" by an end-user, or an unauthorized third-party.
"If my iPad didn't start working again, would they have fixed it?"
Your question is ambiguous but, if you mean "if my iPad failed - not due to accidental damage - and I returned it to Apple without having a third-party muck around with it, would Apple fix it?"  Apple has an out-of-warranty exchange (not repair) iPads, and you'll be charged for it.

  • IPhone out of warranty replacement service

    I have had my screen replaced by a 3rd party several months ago, it has now developed a different fault - can I still use the out of warranty replacement service?
    Thanks
    Sarah

    No .
    You have waived any future support from Apple on that device once it was tampered with ( unauthorised opening by a 3rd party )
    wasn't a good move ,sorry

    If my Iphone 4 has water damage, is it eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service? And if it is, how do I proceed?

    I know I can get it replaced, I want to know if I can get it fixed. Or at the very least have my memory backed up. I want the pictures that are on my phone

  • My iPhone is water damaged, can I still qualify for the out-of-warranty replacement eventhough I bought it in Mexico?

    My iPhone 4s was water damaged, and I want to know if I can have an out-of-warranty replacement if I take it to a US apple store eventhough I bought it in Mexico.

    I don't think so, but doesn't hurt to try.

  • Iphone 4 16 gb out of warranty replacement

    Hello, I have a Iphone 4, 16gb, that is past its applecare warranty. I heard that you can sometimes pay a $149 fee to get an exact replacement. Is this true? What are the limitations? The phone works for the most part, but the sound/vibrate switch keeps braking (fixed twice already) and the main button is not so sensitive any more.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

    Yes, it's true. If it's not functioning and Apple determines it's a hardware problem, you can get an out of warranty replacement.
    However...

    How EXACTLY, did you get this fixed? If you opened the phone, or had it fixed by an unauthorized 3rd party, Apple won't touch that phone. You can not get a replacement from Apple.

  • Original Iphone 2g needs an Out-of-Warranty replacement

    I have an Original Iphone 2g.  It is broken and needs an Out-of-Warranty replacement.  However, I live in Canada and went to talk to a genius at and Apple store here who told me that because it was never available in Canada he can't touch it. He said I could drive down to the States, but that is quite the mission.  I am just wondering what my options might be besides that?  Can I not just mail it into apple?  I don't want them to charge me $99999.99 for diagnostic fees, mail and then they say a replacement is not possible.
    Thanks,
    JR

    The original iPhone was indeed never released in Canada, so you would have to drive to the US for service or send it someone you know in the US who could take it to Apple on your behalf and then return it to you (Apple will not accept out-of-country shipments nor ship the replacement out of the US). You could still get it replaced at an Apple Store for $149 US:
    http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/service/faq/
    Going through a third-party shop may be cheaper, but again it may not, depending on what's wrong with the iPhone. In either case I don't know if that old iPhone is worth it. It might be better to put the money toward a new iPhone; you can get a new unlocked 3GS for CA$375 from the Apple Store.
    Regards.

  • Smashed iPhone 4S - Out of warranty replacement

    I dropped my iPhone 4S and the screen has stopped working as well as the back being cracked. The phone itself is still working - I've been making calls via Siri; have been recieving texts and can play music etc. I haven't had the phone for very long, but I understand that the damage is not covered by the warranty I still have. I've contacted Apple and they have said I can get a complete replacement, which will be refurbished or 'as new', for £146 if I send my phone to them. My question is, is this worth it?
    I assume the replacement will have the same specs. i.e. 16GB; white. But I was wondering what the actual condition of the refurbished phones are like? Do they have scratches etc? As mine was absolutely mint condition before the accident! In your opinion, are refurbs. better than 'brand new' untested phones?
    Will I still have the rest of my year's warranty if I get it replaced or will I get a complete year again, or will replacing it void any warranty? As I don't want to get a replacement which has an issue that I didn't create which would usually be covered by the warranty, and not be able to get fixed for free by Apple.
    Also, do I get to keep my orignial iPhone box, or do I need to send that off? And how long does the entire process take?
    I've been to a phone shop and they said they will replace the screen and the back for £60, however, until they open it up, they do not know if there is any internal damage (which I'm worried about!) - for all I know, I've damaged the camera and who knows what else! As I'm sure if I get it tampered with at a shop, I will void my warranty and won't be able to get it replaced at all by Apple.
    Thank you!

    Unauthorised tampering will invalidate your warranty
    Apple will sell you an "out of warranty replacement ,like for like
    at a cost of £139  in store or £146 for mail in
    replacement will take the remainder of original iPhone warranty
    or 90 days which ever is longer
    refurbished iPhones are as new and you will not know the difference
    between refurb and a "brand new iPhone

  • Can i make use of the out of warranty replacement deal in the USA if im/my iphone is from Europe?

    Well my iPhone 4 got water damage and looks dead to me, even putting it in a rice bag. So I read that there is an out of warranty replacement in the USA for $199. In a few days I'll be in the States... so I want to ask if it will be possible for me to get my European iPhone replaced in the US Apple Store?

    Very, very unlikely as the iPhone warranty is generally valid only in the country of purchase.  The out of warranty replacement is also valid in Europe.  Just hop on down to your local Apple store for the exchange.

  • IPhone 4 out of warranty replacement

    I bought a 16gb iPhone 4 on craigslist and the screen is cracked. I took it to the Apple Store and they said since the screen being cracked is considered accidental damage and therefore not covered by the warranty, they would replace my phone for $150. The only problem is that they don't make the 16gb model of the iPhone 4 anymore. What would they replace my phone with, an 8gb iPhone 4 or a 16gb iPhone 4s?

    They would replace it with the exact same model.
    An out of warranty replacement is not new, it is a refurb.  I highly doubt that they are out of them.

  • If I'm Getting my iPhone an Out-of-Warranty Replacment

    If I'm Getting my iPhone an Out-of-Warranty Replacment for a cracked screen, do I need to tell them any information? I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and going to West Edmonton Mall to have an out-of-warranty replacment.

    I'm assuming this is being done by Apple. Since you're getting a replacement iPhone, you obviously have to provide the them info they request regarding your broken phone and will have to update your carrier with the new info such as the IMEI #.

  • DRG-11225: Third-party filter timed out

    Hello,
    I am facing the following problem when indexing a column:
    DRG-11207: user filter command exited with status 2
    DRG-11225: Third-party filter timed out.
    I am using Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS and Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0
    I have a column named URL in a table named DOCUMENTO_CONSULTA
    This column contains file URLs (2 rows involved in the test)
    I am confident that the paths that appear in the two rows of the URL column are correct (because if I change
    them to something different another error appear that says, as expected, that files could not be found). I am sure
    that access to the files is granted. FILE_ACCESS_ROLE is set to CTXAPP and role is granted to the user. File
    and path permission are set to 777.
    The two rows contains paths to simple DOC and PDF content, with just one paragraph each.
    I am using the following configuration:
    ctx_ddl.create_preference ('ajn_doc_cons_datastore', 'URL_DATASTORE');
    ctx_ddl.set_attribute ('ajn_doc_cons_datastore', 'urlsize', 1024);
    ctx_ddl.create_preference ('ajn_doc_cons_filter', 'AUTO_FILTER');
    ctx_ddl.set_attribute ('ajn_doc_cons_filter', 'timeout', 0);
    ctx_ddl.create_preference ('ajn_spanish_lexer', 'BASIC_LEXER');
    ctx_ddl.set_attribute ('ajn_spanish_lexer', 'base_letter', 'YES');
    ctx_ddl.set_attribute ('ajn_spanish_lexer', 'index_themes', 'NO');
    ctx_ddl.set_attribute ('ajn_spanish_lexer', 'index_stems', 7);
    ctx_ddl.set_attribute ('ajn_spanish_lexer', 'index_text', 'YES');
    ctx_ddl.create_preference ('ajn_spanish_wordlist', 'BASIC_WORDLIST');
    ctx_ddl.set_attribute ('ajn_spanish_wordlist', 'stemmer', 'SPANISH');
    ctx_ddl.set_attribute ('ajn_spanish_wordlist', 'fuzzy_match', 'SPANISH');
    The sentence to create the index is:
    create index ajn_doc_cons_idx on documento_consulta(URL)
    indextype is ctxsys.context
    parameters ('LEXER ajn_spanish_lexer DATASTORE ajn_doc_cons_datastore FILTER ajn_doc_cons_filter WORDLIST ajn_spanish_wordlist ')
    I've tried changing URL_DATASTORE to FILE_DATASTORE (with no attributes) but the result is the same
    Here's the configuration I've set in /etv/environment:
    PATH="/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games:/mnt/oracle/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/bin:/mnt/oracle/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/ctx/bin"
    TMPDIR=/tmp
    ORACLE_HOSTNAME=--------- (my host name)
    ORACLE_BASE=/mnt/oracle/app/oracle
    ORACLE_HOME=/mnt/oracle/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1
    ORACLE_SID=orcl
    ORACLE_TERM=xterm
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/mnt/oracle/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/ctx/lib:/mnt/oracle/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/lib
    If I try to use ctxhx from the console everything works OK and twoHTML files corresponding to the two rows are generated with no errors at all.
    I haven't found any relevant information in forums and docs. I don't have any more ideas, so any answer would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

    Ubuntu is not a supported platform for Oracle, so it's hard to answer this.
    However, if you want to try to debug it, replace the "ctxhx" executable with a shell script which dumps its arguments and the current environment to a file.
    You can then use that output to create a shell with the same environment, and see if command line ctxhx still works. If not, you'll have to figure out what the differences are between the two environments.
