  • How to add instrument driver on labview in Mac

    Hi,
I used to use Labview on windows and there was a menu in Tools >> Instrumentation >> Find Instrument Drivers and then I was able to find the driver for the instrument I was working on and install.
However, since I've been using labview on mac, there is no such menu. It only takes you to the website where I can search and download the instrument driver in a zip file, but then I'm not sure how to install the downloaded instrument driver on the Labview in Mac.
Can someone give me a hint?
    Thanks,

Unzip and move the folder to instr.lib.

  • How to connect multiple DAQ in labview

    Hi,
I have a question about connecting multiple DAQs to the labview.
So, currently I have two NI 6210 DAQs, each with 16 channels. I would like to simultaneously collect data with 32 channels, so I plugged both DAQs into the USBs on my computer. I am wondering which function block that I could use to look for and combine the data from two DAQs in Labview? Currentlly I used a DAQ assistant to read data from one of my DAQs. I tried adding another DAQ assistant block, and then merge the two blocks, but it doesn't work.
Please advise. If there is any similar post, I would really appreciate if you could direct me to those.
    Thank you very much!
    Best,
    Minnie

If all channels perform the same type of measurements you can just add the channels of the second daq board in the same daq assistant. The daqmx read will output an array of 32 values (assuming you use the 32 available channels).
You should provide us with more details.

That may not work with M series cards (unless NI changed something on me).  Last I checked, M series and older needed to have seperate tasks to run, meaning you would need two DAQ Assistants.

I got shinny new MacBook Pro for Christmas and am itching to try out LabVIEW for Mac.  Is there a trial version available?  I still have to develop for Windows (got VMWare Fusion for that), but I'm still curious how the Mac version behaves.

  • Installing AXON daq in Labview

Hi, Has Anyone installed an Axon DAQ in Labview, Could anyone help me out how to install that hardware as i am unable to get labview drivers for it. I use LABVIEW 7.0 in Windows 2000

If you have access to a driver that was written in C, meaning that you have a .dll file that was written in C, then it is possible to use that driver with LabVIEW to accomplish your application. What you'll need to do is figure out how the DLL works (function definitions, function prototypes, etc.), and use the Call Library Function Nodes in LabVIEW to call that driver. The tutorials on Integrating DLLs in LabVIEW will assist you on the LabVIEW side of things.
In regards to finding a instrument driver that is already created for your Axon instrument, unless there is one already created, all you can do is submit a request on the o
riginal website that I directed you to. The rest will be up to good faith.
I hope that I was able to help you out. Good luck.

  • Availability of 64-bit LabVIEW for Mac?

    Hello world,
A quick search of the forum seems to indicate that there may have been some 64-bit versions of LV for Mac produced, but I can't seem to find any recent posts, or how I might obtain a copy.  Does anyone know if there are versions available, or if NI will produce them at some point?
My primary issue is that when reading in and manipulating data files bigger than 500MB, I get out of memory errors (my machine has 8 GB RAM, and OS X has been 64-bit for some time now). Looking at the Activity Monitor reveals that LV allocates just over 2.1GB when reading binary files of this size (before manipulation and making copies, etc).  This of course is pushing up against the 32-bit limit.  Some of my files are this size or bigger, or may require making copies during data reduction/manipulation, hence the request.
    Many thanks,
    S-
PS:  I know, I know, I have heard the arguments for MS Windows before, I am mostly seeking an answer to the question, not an explanation of why system X is better than system Y.  FWIW, in my lab, we use Windows (less stable, more software), Macs, and Linux (more stable, less software; does correlation == causation?  Hardly ever :-)  ).

    Hi Ben,
I'm getting the feeling that something has happened which has left you frustrated with our Mac support. I'm sorry if we've caused you undue inconvenience, especially if it was due to technical inaccuracies in the documentation that is available online. We make our best effort to keep an accurate record of our products and their compatibility. That said, mistakes do happen and we do our best to fix them. If you ever come upon inaccuracies in documentation, please let us know by commenting on the page or contacting our support staff.
As this thread was originally discussing, there is a gap between the software which is available for Mac and Windows operating systems. There are a plethora of reasons for that, and many of them are valid topics of debate. The purpose of these forum boards is to provide a space where users of all types can work through issues they encounter or get the opinions of others. We try to foster a professional, constructive environment for all our customers.
As a company, we gather large amounts of very helpful feedback from our customers. One of my favorite parts about the LabVIEW user community is the number of generous, helpful people who love the product and want to see it improved. I regularly encounter customers who go out of their way to demonstrate obscure bugs which we may have missed otherwise. Many of these bugs get fixed and improve each subsequent version of LabVIEW we release. If you have specific questions or concerns that are actionable, please post them in new threads on the topic; the more detail you can provide, the easier for us to investigate the issue. It's very common for a user to post a link with a question about something that seems unclear or misleading.
I don't know what the goal of your post is exactly. To address the frustrations that Mac software availabilities are less than perfect, we do know that the Mac community of LabVIEW users is left wanting with our current offerings. I'm not sure what else I can contribute other than suggesting to do research to understand the tradeoffs when choosing a development platform. Every language and OS has unique pros and cons; knowing them is always a good idea.
I maintain that in all cases you should choose the language that suits your application and development cycle best. I frequently use LabVIEW because I enjoy using it and find I save tons of time. For the type of application development I do, it makes sense. If your usage of Java solves the problems you face, that's a good thing, and it would be silly of me to suggest you choose the wrong tool. It goes back to pros and cons.
To come back to the point, I'm sorry to hear you (and the other Mac users on this thread) have faced frustration. I don't think my attempt at a didactic post fixes those problems, but I care about LabVIEW and this seemed like a fitting place to remind that we need your help to fix the problems you encounter. We're not always able to get everything done, (notably there still is not a 64-bit version of LabVIEW for Mac) but don't give up on us. We're always trying to figure out the best way to help our customers pursue new goals and we've noticed there is room to grow in Mac.

  • Communicating Quanser DAQs via Labview RealTime

    Hello,
I am using a data acquisition card made by quanser (Q8-USB) in my robotic application and I have the following questions:
1- Is it possible to read/write this DAQ in labview? I know that there is a special add-on for quanser DAQs, but I have not bought it.
2- Is it possible to communicate with a USB devise in RT-Target ?
    thanks

    Alini,
I checked our third-party intstrument driver site and did not see anything listed for the Quanser device.
    http://www.ni.com/downloads/instrument-drivers/
You may want to contact the original distributor of the device to validate the claim that it can interface with LabVIEW. Theoretically, you should be able to. However, the first step would be to verify if the device appears in Measurement and Automation Explorer.
The following links may help address your questions regarding communication with the device in real-time.

  • Controlling a Servo Motor Using LabVIEW, Phidget & Mac OS

Can anyone help me with this problem?
I'm attempting to control a servo motor attached to a Phidget, using a VI in LabVIEW on a Mac. The Phidget works fine with the Mac, LabVIEW works fine with the Mac, but there seems to be a problem combining the three. The problem I'm encountering is that the examples on the Phidget website (www.phidgets.com) for LabVIEW use ActiveX. Can anyone suggest a solution for this? Is it possible to use one of the control options in LabVIEW (GPIB, VISA, etc etc.) instead?
I'm not great with computers so really have no idea where to start.
    Thanks!

Thanks for your reply Jeff! So I can insert a CIN to the block diagram, right click and use the 'create .c file' option, insert the example code for controlling the motor from the Phidgets website (after tweaking it to make it specific to my setup) and that should work? How do I load the C library? Or a better question may be, what is the C library? (I wasn't joking when I said I'm totally new to this!)
I've been working my way through 'C for Dummies' this week but I have to admit, the bit about header files and libraries lost me. I downloaded a bunch of stuff from the Phidgets website, including the phidget21.h and phidget21.lib files...do I '#include' both of these at the top of the example code?
I've been in touch with the Phidget Support team (who are indeed great!) and received a similar reply ("You would have to call into the mac Phidget21 Framework directly").
Once the CIN is all set up do you know what degree of control I'll have over the motor? The aim is to have the motor move in steps from -60deg to +60deg around a central point. Would this need to be defined in the code and then linked into LabVIEW or is this something I could control from within LabVIEW? The idea of my project is to use the motor to move a light source around a sensor. The sensor is hooked up to an NI DAQ that will record and display values (after some manipulation) on the front panel. I hope to display the sensor values and the corresponding motor position values.

  • Noise on PCMCIA DAQ 6024

Why does PCMCIA 6024 DAQ card generate noise over signal where PCI 6034E does not ? Where is the problem ? Using the same LV version 6.1 on both machine (Pc) and same OS (Win2000)

    Hello,
Some portable devices do not achieve the same accuracy levels of PCI DAQ boards. For instance, noise that did not occur on the PCI version sometimes appears in measurements taken with a portable DAQ device. This noise results primarily from the size difference.
In the links below you can found some link that explain how to resolve this problem :

  • 3rd Party (Omega) DAQ w/Labview VIs?

    I'm using Omega's DAQP208H pcmcia card
    (12bit 100MHz) and I'd like to use Labview's
    DAQ VIs. is this possible?
the VIs provided with the board are relatively..
lets say.. "advanced" and not as straightforward
as the NI VIs that i've come to know and love.
or would it just be easier to get an NI board instead
of modifying all of my NI VIs?

    Hi,
I have developed using both Omega and NI hardware.
If you have the opertunity, just buy NI boards.
If you where developing in an environment devloped by Omega, I would recomend the oposite.

  • How to interface data acquization card(DAQ) with labview

I want to take input from labview and display it on labview envioment .all the inputs are digital and change the state of switch according to the input.

What exactly is your question? Do you have a DAQ board or are you looking for a recomendation on what to buy? If you already have a DAQ board, is it one from NI? If so, what model#? If using a NI board, you should start here. There are also a large number of shipping examples in LabVIEW related to DAQmx.

To the original question: No. However, we have written control and
display applications on Mac OS X that access PCI-MIO-16XE-50 cards
from other computers in an embedded configuration. The Mac OS X box
acts as a UI controller interface and also shows the data in real

  • DAQ and Labview on different partitions

    Hello,
I installed DAQmx (8.9) on a  C partition and Labview (8.6) on a D partiton  but LV does not see DAQmx ?
    Is it the reason ?
I tried to edit the path the palette (I would have like to just replace the D by a C), in fact LV looks for in C:\Na......\menu.mnu.
I also tried to add a palette, but then a lot of VI are missing.
I also wanted to modify the labview.ini, but I was not able to recognize the path to the  palette tool.
To I tried to reinstall LV from the DVD and when it asks my for the driver, I tried my own installation, but the installer asks me
insert media for the driver. I do not have the media for 8.9 (the one on the media is 8.7.9 if I am correct), so I tried to
give it the path of the dowloaded file(NIDAQ890f1) as well as the path to the directory where I unzipped the dowloaded files,
but any of thoses paths are accepatble for the LV Installer.
Is it not possible to have a separated installation of DAQ and LV ?
    Thank

    Hi pdupre,
i never tried to install it on different pations, but in which order did you install it? You first have to install LabVIEW and then the Driver.
    Hope it helps.
