DAQ board no longer showing up in MAX, nor elsewhere.

I can no longer see my DAQ board in MAX, nor LabVIEW 7.1. It's a PCI-6023E, which was working fine last week.
I tried reinstalling MAX through the Control Panel >> Add/Remove
Programs, but it is not there. In "Add/Remove Programs", II click on
"National Instruments Software", but that causes my computer to hang.
I tried downloading the latest NI-DAQ, but it thinks it has nothing to
install. I explicitly use it to remove LabVIEW 7.1 support, then
re-install it, but my DAQ board is still invisible.
How can I communicate with my DAQ board again?

Hello Bmihura,
There is a utility called MSIBlast that can be used to remove software
from your computer when the Add/Remove Programs does not work.
For future reference, it sounds like some portion of your National
Instruments software has become corrupted during an installation.
It is important to strictly follow installation procedures outlined at
http://www.ni.com/support/install/
.  Also, if your device does
not show up in MAX, it probably is a result of an incorrect driver
installation, and not a problem with the MAX program.
The first thing you will want to do is remove the hardware from your
computer.  Then, to get the MSIBlast utility, copy and paste the
following in an Internet Explorer web browser window:
ftp://ftp.ni.com/outgoing/
Find MSIBlast.exe and drag and drop it onto your desktop.  To run
the utility, simply double-click on the executable.  In the dialog
box, make sure you have 'Show NI Installers Only', and you should see
a list of National Instruments software installed on your
computer.  Go through the list and select the components that you
wish to remove and click the 'Uninstall' button.
Once you have uninstalled all of the software that you could not
uninstall through Add/Remove Programs, restart your computer and verify
that everything was uninstalled through Add/Remove Programs.  At
this point, if you chose to uninstall LabVIEW, that should be the first
thing to reinstall.  Otherwise, go ahead and reinstall DAQmx
8.0.  I would recommend re-downloading it from our website here
just in case the installer became corrupted during the download
process.  After the driver is installed, now is the time to power
down your computer and physically install your hardware in a spare PCI
slot.  When you restart your computer, Windows should recognize
new hardware and you should allow the wizard to install the driver
software automatically.
I hope this helps, and if you have any further questions you can either
reply to this post or directly contact an Applications Engineer by
calling 1-866-ASK-MYNI.

  • How Come My iPhone 3G No Longer Shows Up in iTunes?

All of a sudden my iPhone doesn't show up in the iTunes sidebar on my 20" iMac, but using the same cable it does on my MacBook. I have tried plugging it in diretly to the iMac as well as to my Belkin hub, but it no longer shows up in iTunes, nor does it charge when plugged it. The iPhone stays dark when first pluged in.
Does anyone know why when plugging in the iPhone 3G or my iPod Classic (old school) it won't load on the side bar of iTunes? It is like it does not exist. I have done all updates. I restarted my computer a couple of times and finally got the iPod Classic to load but still the iPhone 3G shows nothing. It won';t even boot my phone up to charge it but will the iPod.
I use the iPhone on my MackBook with the same cord and it loads to iTunes and starts to sync. Same with the iPod. Both computers are running the same software. Since it works on the MacBook and use to work on then iMac G5 I am thinking it may have something to do with the updates for iTunes. I use the MacBook to charge the iPhone and iPod sometimes but the main computer for syncing is the iMac. Only nothing seems to work. After restarting the iMac several times the iPod seems to work then not work. I am frustrated. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

hi John, i have my doubt that it has something to do with authorization/deauthorization. I have read somewhere before that the iPhone (not sure about iPod) can only be "paired" with one mac and if you want to synch it with another one, you need to deauthorize the initial one first. Inside iTune up on its menu bar under Store, there are 2 options that said authorize and deauthorize. Now i haven't tried this before as i only got myself one mac, so i have no past experience here with this particular case. May be some other experienced users can shed some light on this and share with us, before you try out?

I have tried plugging it in directly to the iMac as well as to my Belkin hub, but it no longer shows up in iTunes, nor does it charge when plugged it. The iPhone stays dark when first plugged into the iMac now. I have restarted the iMac a few times, I have powered the iPhone on and off, and I have reset the iPhone more than once....... all with no change. However, the iPod now does show in the sidebar and on the Desktop, and it charges now after the iMac restarts were done. All the software is updated on both computers and on the iPhone 3G. Does anyone have any other suggestions to try. The iPhone 3G works in every other way as usual.

  • Serial No. no longer shows in system profiler after new logic board..!

My Macbook had to go in to my Apple Service centre to get the random shutdown fault fixed. They fitted a new logic board and last night I noticed that the System Profiler no longer show the computers serial number. Instead it says "systemserialnumb" where before it listed the Macbooks serial number. Does anybody know whether this will affect my 3 year Applecare warranty as normally they check your machines warranty status by confirming the serial number? I have all the documents but would not normally carry them all if away from home.

I love this board..ask a question and someone always knows the answer..! Mort..thanks, at least now I know it has happened to other people and also that the serial number is also to be found under the battery which for repair and service purposes is good. I am a little surprised that the engineers don't routinely reset it at the time of repair though as it is one of the pretty relevant bits of information in the "about this computer" button.

  • Does the academic version of Labview 8.5 allow running AT MIO 16e-1 DAQ board?

I just bought the academic version of Labview 8.5.  I have an AT MIO 16E-1 DAQ board.  I have installed the Labview software.  Then I installed the Legacy NiDAQ 7.4.  I put in the board and MAX recognizes it.  Windows detects the board twice.  The first time is installs automatically.  The second time there is an error.
I can't find the instrument driver/VIs in the Labview functions pallette for the AT MIO board.
    Thanks.

    Hello Test11111,
In order to use Traditional NI-DAQ devices in LabVIEW you need to know the device number as given in the Measurement and Automation Explorer.  Unlike the IMAQ or NI-DAQmx devices, Traditional NI-DAQ devices do not auto-populate in the channel controls or constants.  The good news is that if the device shows up in MAX and the test panel works there then your device is working properly.
There are some Traditional NI-DAQ example VIs available through the NI Example Finder.  To access these examples open LabVIEW and go to Help» Find Examples...  Then in the top left select Directory Structure; the "daq" folder contains all of the Traditional NI-DAQ examples organized by device and function (analog, digital or counter I/O).
I hope this helps, and please post back if you're still having trouble.
    Cheers,
    Brooks

  • PCI 6281 board does not show up in Labview as having available physical channels

Hi, I have recently changed computers from a Windows XP machine to a Windows 7 machine.  I am running Labview 8.6 (I realize LabView is not officially supported for Windows 7, but most features seem to work fine).  I also have a PCI - 6281 M series DAQ board.  Although the drivers seem to have installed properly for this card, Labview does not see any available physical channels.  The board shows up in MAX under the PXI heading, and seems to have no conflicts with VISA addressing.  I am not sure if the board should be there, as is there no PXI bus in this setup.  I can't see the physical channels with any NI software including DAQ assistant in the main program, or Signals Express.  Any advice would be appreciated.

DAQmx is version 8.7.2.  Also, I installed the card prior to the drivers, I will try removing the card and replacing it.  I seem to have isolated the problem - my old computer had the card showing up under the heading NI-DAQmx devices, where on the new computer it shows up under in the PXI heading in the measurement and automation explorer.  I'm still not sure how to fix it though.

  • How can I acquire data in a PCI DAQ board using a SCXI rack?

    Hello.
I have an acquisition system that consists in:
    · 3 PCI DAQ boards:
    - PCI-MIO-16-E-1
    - PCI-6052-E
    - PCI-6034-E
    · 3 cables to connect PCI boards and SCXI modules
    · 1 SCXI chassis:
    - SCXI-1001
    · SCXI modules + terminal blocks:
    - 4x SCXI_1121 + SCXI_1320 (for voltage analog inputs)
    - 1x SCXI_1520 + SCXI_1314 (for strain gauges)
    - 1x SCXI_1530 (for accelerometers)
I have been trying to acquire different signals (specially voltage signals that are easier to reproduce) but I haven't been able to do it. I can't read anything from MAX or LabView. I have tested the PCI boards with a SCB68 terminal block (without any SCXI component) and they work properly. Problems appear when I use the SCXI chassis and the SCXI modules. I don't know if there is a problem with the hardware or it is a wrong configuration.
I guess channels in the SCXI modules correspond to analog input channels in the PCI board they are connected to, but I don't know if I have to read data from analog input channels of the PCI boards or from SCXI channels that appear in MAX (I have tried both posibilities, but they don't seem to work).
I don't know if I have to use Differential, RSE or NRSE configuration. I have tried all of them. Sometimes I only read noise, sometimes signal is fixed in a limit value (maximum or minimum, it depends), sometimes it's fixed in a value near zero,... I have changed connections and configuration options so many times I can't exactly say when one thing or another happens.
I have tested only one PCI board with only a SCXI module in order to avoid interaction and confusion. Nothing.
I think I have tried changing almost every option in MAX, but it doesn't work.
I'm sure I'm missing something and solution is quite simple, but I can't find it.
Can anybody explain to me how to connect and configure my system to read any signal? I only need a few steps or highlights. Maybe some clues about what the problem can be.
    Thanks!

I have several comments and suggestions:
    A) Have you "added a device" in MAX and actually added the SCXI chassis? This step is necessary to get the chassis to work. Click on "add a device" and choose the 1001 chassis . Do this for one DAQ card and one module only initially. The Set Up wizard should walk you through the configuration. If you are unable to add a chassis within MAX, I suspect the chassis is not working correctly.
    B) Once configured, you can examine the SCXI channels in MAX as follows:
    1) Open the DAQ card in MAX and Open the Test Panels
    2) For the SCXI channel to view, use the following convention OB0!sc(n)!md(m)!ch where the letter (n) corresponds to the chassis number in MAX (usually = 1), the letter (m) corresponds to the module number (slot) where the module is located in the chassis, and (ch) represents the channel(or channels) you wish to view. So presuming chassis ID=1, and a module in slot 1, and you wish to view channel 3, you would type the following in the channel field for the DAQ card channel to view:
    OB0!sc1!md1!3 (note OB0!sc1!md1!3:6 will display channels 3 through 6)
All of the SCXI channels for a given DAQ card are multiplexed through channel 0 of the DAQ card, Channels 1 and up are not used, hence the initial three characters in the SCXI call refer to "On-Board Channel 0 (OB0)"
    C) For the subsequent set up, it will be necessary to first add the additional modules to the chassis (when powered off). Then open MAX and update the chassis. (If you get an error then simply delete the chassis reference in MAX and add a new chassis). You will then be required to set the interface mode of each module as either parallel or multiplexed. In parallel mode, you associate a distinct module with a distinct DAQ card in the host PC. For those DAQ cards that will address multiple modules, you must first configure the modules to be in adjacent slots in the chassis and then assign the first module to the cabled DAQ card - then all of the modules assigned to that DAQ card should be configured in "multiplexed" mode.
    D) Once the chassis has been properly configured, you can click on each module and set the gains, filters, and terminal block types.
I hope that this helps to get you started.

  • Connecting more than one sensor cable to screw terminal to collect more than one signal in single DAQ board channel?

I don't know if this topic is being posted in the correct location. I am new to LabVIEW and the hardware associated with it. I am using an NI 9237 DAQ board for a senior design project in engineering and I was informed that I can make multiple connections to a single screw terminal which in turn will connect to one channel of the DAQ board. To give the specifics, I have two pressure transducers and would like to connect them to the same screw terminal and channel on the DAQ board yet separate them when acquiring data in the VI. Does anyone know how to do this? I know is is essentially knowing what pins do what on the screw terminal but I can't find this anywhere. I am currently doing the job with two screw terminals and two of everything else (RJ50 adapters, etc.). I would appreciate any input. Also, please let me know if I am posting in the wrong board and if possible, which board I should be posting to.
    Thank You,
    bsteinma

    bsteinma,
What you may have heard is that you can measure multiple signals on the same task, not on the same channel.  By tying both of these signals to the same channel, both signals will compete to drive the line.  The channel on the card will only interpret this garbled signal and you will get no useful data.  If you are new to wiring up hardware, I recommend configuring a task within Measurement and Automation Explorer and then clicking on the tab along the bottom of the page titled, Connection Diagram.  This will show you what electrical connections to make.  Then, in LabVIEW you can read multiple signals (channels) and manipulate each signal how you would like.
As far as boards go, you will generally find an answer where ever you post, but the Multifunction DAQ board is a great place to post when you have questions regarding hardware (like your 9237).

  • Question abou daq board buffer

    Hi, everyone:
I am using Labview 7.1 and the daq board is NI6023E.  My program computes AI analog inputs (4 channels), I used a For loop to gather a certain number of anlog input data, and do the calculation with each input data, and put the calculated data to an array, and then find the minimum value among the array elements. So whenever I push a control button on the front panel, the program is supposed to give me a minimum value. When I run the program the first time it will work, then if the program is running and I push the button a few times, I found the first few elements in the array is not real, it seems they came from the data result when I pushed the button previously. I am not sure if this has to do with daq board buffer. Please help.
I used a stacked sequencial structure (3 frames) for AI config, AI scan, AI clear in each frame. For the for loop I set a delay time 20ms, I found if I increase the delay time, the number of unrealistic data will decrease. For example, if I set 20ms, then I got 15 unrealistic data, if I set 100ms, I only got 3 bad data. But then I cannot set the delay too long because N number of the for loop is  hundreds!
    Thanks,
    bj

I am not sure if this has to do with daq board buffer
Yes, Probably it has nothing to do with your buffer

  • Measurement Computing DAQ Boards and LV

I have been using LV and NI DAQ boards for several years with
excellent results. Goodby C++ forever (well...).
My boss sent me a flyer for Measurement Computing DAQ Boards and the
prices are great. They even offer a card I can't get from NI.
My question is: how well do these boards work with LV? Can I use all
the NI supplied VI's or must I use only the ones provided with the
    Measurement Computing card?
Does anyone sell a card that clones a NI card so all the NI VI's work?
    Thanks,
    Linuz

Here's an opinion from somebody who doesn't work for NI also...
The measurement computing boards are technically very good, and also very
inexpensive. However the last one (a multifunction DAQ card, I forget the
model number) definately suffered from the SW differences you describe.
I already have enough difficulty getting the NI cards to work properly; for
a complicated project I wouldn't want to add a 3rd party card to the mix!
Usually it's worth a couple hundred bucks to have the full NI-DAQ driver,
support with NI-MAX, standard NI vis, and technical support if (when) the
whole system doesn't work as documented. I have had enough trouble using
RTSI synchronization between genuine boxed NI products. For an ambitious
project I would rarely consider a 3rd party DAQ solution.
On the other hand, if your application is straightforward and you like the
cost savings then go for it. When I tried the computerboards card, the SW
was lackluster but functional. The HW was very solid and around 1/3 of the
price. Given that Labview PDS is so freaking expensive, I would definately
consider a 3rd party board for routine tasks. I had a fine experience with
the computerboards card and the approx $500 savings (at the time) made the
    project affordable.

  • Connecting thermocouple to DAQ board

    Hi,
I have a NI USB-9162 with NI cRIO -9215 (DAQ board) and I want to aquire temperature data with a J type thermocouple. I have read (http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/4237#toc2) that you can't just connect the thermocouple to the DAQ board since you need to compensate for the cold-junction. Could someone explain to me how to do this using labview software? Thank you

    Hi trishtrishtrish,
I assume you are asking how best to connect to the AI module and how this affects your system.  There are three noise sources: the noise of the measurement board, the thermal drift of the measurement board, and the thermal noise of the cold junction measurement. The first two you should be able to get from the specs of the board, leaving the hardest number to estimate being thermal noise of the cold junction measurement.
When you make a thermocouple measurement, your "resolution" is limited by system noise (quantization and random) just as with any other measurement.  However, because of the slow nature of temperature measurements, gain and offset drifts with temperature might also be considered noise and hence limit resolution.  More specifically to thermocouple measurements, fluctuations in the cold junction measurement caused by changes in the temperature of either the CJ sensor or the actual CJ terminal temperature can also be considered drifts or noise, and further limit the effective resolution when considered over a long time period.  NIs TC products, (which you might consider looking into) like the 9211 are designed with very good offset and gain drifts to limit that effect, but the magnitude of fluctuations in the CJ measurement error depend on the thermal characteristics of the installation.
The dominant source of noise (or resolution) in this application will be in the cold junction.  Changes in the temperature of the wiring terminals that make up the cold junction will look like measurement noise, and so they will have the effect of reducing resolution.  How much noise (or resolution) the you will end up with will depend on (1) how stable the temperature of the cold junction terminals can be kept and (2) over what length of time the signal is looked at.  Over a period of hours, it will probably be very difficult to maintain the noise (or resolution).  Over a period of one second, it should be rather easier. If we attempted cold junction compensation, the noise (or resolution) of the measurement will be dominated by the difference between the CJ Sensor measurement and the actual cold junction temperature. This should reduce the noise over long terms, but increase the noise over short periods.
If you are looking to make good measurements you will probably just need to build a old-fashioned cold junction terminal block sitting in an ice bath, and use 0 C as the cold junction value without actually measuring anything, then the noise will just be the stability of the terminal block temperature.   If the terminal block temperature fluctuates by 0.1 deg C rms, then you would have an additional 0.1 deg C rms of noise.  Check here for an image of how the ice bath would look: http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/4218  You could also look into an insulated oil bath with an RTd as a CJ sensor.  I've seen both of these techniques working well in the past but feel they can be a hassle to deal and you might be better off by looking into a device designed for thermocouple measurements.

    Steve

  • Non National Instruments DAQ Boards

How do you configure (add) a non-National Instruments DAQ board, which is compatable with labview (IOtech DAQBoard 2000 - PCI), in the "Measurment and Automation Explorer" for LabVIEW?  It currently does not display that the device is seen under the "Devices and Interfaces" section.  All necessary software for the board has already been installed.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
MAX is a program from NI, to configure and test NI boards, it is not meant to use with boards from another manufacturers.
You should use tools that should be available from your board manufacturer.
    Paulo.

  • DAQ devices don't show up in LabVIEW Measurement IO after loading 2014 DS2, uninstalling 2014 DS2, and then reinstalling 2013 DS1.

DAQ devices don't show up in Measurement I/O. I installed LabVIEW ver 2014 DS2 Developer suite and my application no longer worked. I then uninstalled ver 2014 DS2 Developer suite and re-installed ver 2014 DS1 Developer suite which installs as LabVIEW 2013. Now none of the DAQ VIs are present in the Measurement I/O. I have uninstalled all NI software, and deleted that NI software that did not uninstall. LabVIEW ver 2014 DS1 Developer suite installs normally, but I get an "unknown error" when trying to install the DAQ drivers from the CD, and the Device Drivers CD keeps looping with a message indicating "Currently exectuing License Manager."

  • XP no longer shows up as a startup disk

After upgrading to leopard today, my XP partition no longer shows up as a startup disk.
I had/have my windows partition on it's own drive that was NOT created with bootcamp. I pulled my osx disk from the my mac pro and installed windows on the disk i had in bay 2 using 100% of the disk (ntfs). after installing the bootcamp windows drivers, i reinserted the osx disk and all has been well for the last 4 months,... until the upgrade today that is.
Now, when i go to the 'Startup Disk' preference Windows is no longer an option. the disk still shows up in Finder and I can navigate around the file system.
Anyone have any ideas on how I can get it to show up again? I'd really rather not have to reinstall if i can avoid it.
    thx.

I have exactly the same problem (well, maybe).
I have installed MacFUSE and ntfs-3g. I don't know if this is of any relevance, because I don't know if it was working directly before I installed them.
I have my OS X and NTFS volumes on the same physical disk. I also had to install Windows twice because I buggered it up the first time (formatted the partition as FAT32 and ran into a bunch of disk errors).
I also notice that in WinClone I have 2 Untitled Volumes at /dev/disk0s3 and /dev/disk1s1. /dev/disk0s3 seems to be the legit Windows NTFS partition, but I have no idea what /dev/disk1s1 is about. I don't know if it's been there all along or not but perhaps it is confusing matters and stopping the legit Windows volume/installation from being detected...? Should that second volume exist at all? It doesn't exist according to the Disk util.
edit: I used fdisk just to have a look at the two untitled partitions.

Apart from not seeing the Windows boot volume in the system prefs pane, Boot Camp (and the rest of Leopard) has been excellent. I am impressed at the level of apple hardware support for windows. It seems to be much better than most native PC hardware.
I am dying for an answer. It's a fairly minor problem in the grand scheme of things, but **** it's frustrating.

  • Windows Partition No Longer Shows Up After Accidental Premature Closing of Camptune

    Mac OS X 10.7.5
I was running Paragon Camptune to expand my Windows 7 partition. The progress bar reached the end and stayed there for about 30 minutes. The Camptune window was then accidentally closed and Camptune quit itself. I restarted the computer but the Windows partition no longer shows up when I try to boot it, only Mac OSX and Recovery Disk. The Bootcamp drive is no longer accessable from System Preferences, and the Bootcamp partition folder is no longer accessable in the Devices area of Finder. Camptune no loner recognizes that there was a partition. Thus, I am no longer able to access the partition's contents or delete it and make a new one.
It would be preferable if I could fix the partition and have it accessable again, however I have no problem with deleting it and making a new partition. Any advice? Thanks for your time.
Here is the information from the Partition Inspector:

    Hi Eric,
Bootcamp does show up in the disk utility but it is grey instead of black like the Macintosh HD.
    The following information is available:
    Mount Point: Not mounted
Format: Windows NT File System (NTFS)
    Owners Enabled: -
    Number of Folders: -
    Capacity:  274.55 GB
    Available: -
    Used: -
    Number of Files: -
What might be the best way to continue to repair it. I do not have the option to click on "verify disk permissions" or "Repair Disk Permissions".
Should I clone the hard drive in the target disk mode??
I'm not the best at this stuff so any more advice would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!
