DaqCard 6024E intermittant with Windows XP

I am still having trouble running the PCMCIA DaqCard 6024E reliability
on a Winbook running home version XP. I could get by, but my customers
can't.
I ordered two cards, one to upgrade a Winbook laptop running Windows Me
(from a DaqCard 500) (a little over a year old) and the other for a new
Winbook which came with XP installed. I also have a new Winbook running
XP (also home version) and working fine with a DaqPad 6020E from the USB
port. I am using the latest version of NIDaq, 6.9.2. Once MAX sees the
card, LabVIEW has no problems.
Both of the DaqCards cards run fine in the old Winbook running Me.
Neither of the PCMCIA 6024E cards will run reliably with the XP system.
>From a cold boot, I have to restart several times (usually between 5 and
10 times) before the card is recognized (little icon in task bar). Or
if I boot once and then just unplug and replug the card - hot - it also
requires about 5 to 10 of these cycles. Once its recognized, if I
unplug and replug the card it will not fail to recognize the card until
between 15 and 20 tries.
Just to verify that the laptop is ok, I bought a PCMCIA ethernet card.
The box for the ethernet card (Netgear FA411) indicated that it would
run with Windows 95/98/Me and a sticker on the cellophane wrapper said
"Works with Windows XP". The sticker (afterthought) suggested to me
that if it would work with Windows 95/98/Me it would also work with XP.
I rebooted 25 times and the computer recognized it every time. I also
unplugged and plugged the either net card - hot - 25 times and the
computer recognized it every time.
Winbook will not guarantee survival if I try to load 98 or Me in the new
computer. I think these systems are assembled and loaded in China and
they don't have the drivers in Ohio. By the way, this is my fifth
Winbook, and this is my first problem. Otherwise XP seems to run better
than Me. My new Winbook with XP and the DaqPad has never failed. I
have been using it nearly every day since February. I developed both of
the DacCard systems with it.
I think the Winbooks, about $1000, and the DaqCards are perfect for my
customers. I hope we can fix this problem.
For the present, my clients are using the computers in the lab and are
able to leave them on continuously 24X7. But soon they will get
approvals and will have to go to the clinic for their study. They have
to move a cart into a room, plug in the equipment and can't be messing
with the cards when the room is $700 per hour and the Doctors are upset
(that's a mild term). If we loose a study, we have lost a consenting
patient, (they are not easy to come by these days). I suppose, if I
have to, we could use DaqPAds, but I don't want to do that, nor do I
want the lose the restocking fee. In addition, I am currently putting
another system together, which I will deliver at the end of July. Not
sure what to buy, DaqCard or DaqPad (prefer DaqCard).
Thank, Harry

Harry;
We don't have anything reported yet about Winbooks and Windows XP.
One thing you can try out though, is to see if the Socket drivers in use by the Winbook are the Native ones provided by Microsoft.
If they aren't uninstall those and install the NAtive ones from the Windows installation CD. If that is the case, it's probably the cause of the problem.
Hope this helps.

  • DAQcard 6024E crashes with windows 2000

I am using a daqcard with windows 2000pro and labview 7 and it occasionally stops responding and I have to do multiple re-boots of the pc before it starts working again. it also seems to occasionaly have problems being recognised by windows and max, sometimes it is picked up by one and not the other. Is this a patchable windows bug as i dont seem to have the same problems on a different pc also running win 2k pro. (but i haven't run on the other pc as long as the one with the probs) i have also noticed that if power it connected to the I/O on the daq card, the problem occurs more often on bootup of the pc.

Testing the DAQCard in another laptop is a good first step in order to verify that the problem is probably with the configuration of windows and software rather than with the hardware. It appears that your DAQCard is working properly since you do not see the problem on a different computer.
Often times problems with PCMCIA devices can be a result of the PCMCIA socket or the PCMCIA drivers and software. The following Knowledgebase contains good information on debugging problems with PCMCIA cards and discusses how to remove any 3rd party socket services (that are usually installed onto mainstream laptops) and replace it with the default Windows software:
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/7CBFAB1E451C3A1886256D98006914AE?OpenDocument
    In your particu
lar case you might check the resources and software settings of the two laptops to see if they are noticeable different. In particular check to see what software controls the PCMCIA devices and if there are other background programs running that might cause problems with Windows on your first machine.
Also, you will want to check to the version of NI-DAQ that you have installed to see if that is different between the two computers. All versions of NI-DAQ can be downloaded from our website (ni.com/support) if you wish to upgrade, with our latest version being NI-DAQ 7.1.

  • Where can I find a document listing the instructions one can give the DAQCard-6024E card via the drivers?

    Hi
We have bought the DAQcard-6024E card with it's drivers. (for PCMCIA)
I need a list of the instructions for setting up and reading the card using C++.
Where can I find such a list or document?
    Thanks!

    Hi eben,
I would recommend taking a look at the DAQ Getting Started Guide. This should have all the information you need. The location of the examples are listed on page 11.

  • Are there compatibility issues with using labview 4.0.1 with a DAQCARD 6024E. Which Ni-daq version should I use? Operating system?

I recently purchased a DAQCard 6024E and am trying to set it up on a windows XP laptop. Labview 4.0.1 vis do not seem to function. Do I have some compatibility issues? Thanks

    Hello;
The oldest version of NI-DAQ that supports that card of yours is 6.6, which doesn't support Labview 4. Furthermore, the only NI-DAQ version that supports windows XP is the latest one, 6.9.2, and the Labview version that supports that same OS is 6.1.
Since you will have to upgrade Labview to be able to work with that DAQ card of yours, I advise you to upgrade to Labview 6.1, so you can work under XP also.
    Hope this helps.

  • Two edge separator with a NI DAQCard-6024E for PCMCIA

    Hi,
I have two different TTL-level signals available, and I want to measure the duration of time starting when one signal goes high and stoping when the next signal goes high.
How can I do this using LabVIEW 5.1 and a NI DAQCard-6024E (PCMCIA)?
    Thankful for every answer.
    Regards,
    Henrik

Probably the best way to do this is to set up counter 0 to do triggered pulse generation and then do buffered period measurement on counter 1, with the second signal being the gate signal. In other words, the first TTL signal starts the first counter producing a pulse train and the second counter measures this pulse train until the second signal causes it to latch. Look at some of the examples for triggered pulse generation and buffered period measurement and this will probably help you get started.

  • I have a new Airport Extreme that works well with my IMac but is intermittent with our Windows 7 PC.  Any ideas?

I have a new Airport Extreme that works well with my IMac but is intermittent with our Windows 7 PC.  Any ideas?

Thanks planb77. Your instructions worked but I had to do a little more than you stated. I did not realize that transferring files to a new computer was not enough. When the iPod synced I was told I needed to "authorize" my new computer to get my iTunes purchases to sync to the iPod. So after the initial sync, I ejected and disconnected the iPod, went into the iTunes store, set up "home sharing" and then authorized the new computer. When that was done I reconnected the iPod and was able to sync all my books and music. The only thing I couldn't do was rename the iPod as iTunes never asked me to. Is there a way to rename it after it has been set by iTunes as "owner's iPod"?

  • IRQ conflict on Dell Inspiron 5100 with DAQCard 6024E

    Hi,
I have DELL INSPIRON 5100 and I am trying to make working my DAQCard 6024E , but it gives me following error on MAX Device Test Panel: The Device is not responding to the First Level IRQ. Would you like to continue anyway? Please see attached file for IRQ allocation on my Laptop.
What kind of drivers you requested from DELL? Can you please share those drivers so I can try out for my laptop.

Wow, it looks like you have quite a bit of stuff on IRQ 10. My guess would be that another device is using that IRQ and not letting the 6024E use IRQ 10. Fortunately, it looks like you should have plenty of other resources available, so I would try to configure your card on another IRQ. Hopefully you can go to the properties on that card in the device manager and try to manualy set the IRQ to one that isn't being used. Good luck.

  • Convert elements using DAQCard-6024E to USB-6221using LabVIEW 2009

I just received an old project, the VI was mainly designed using DAQCard-6024E. Since we'd upgrade the equipment, and the DAQCard-6024E is no long used. However, they want to keep the similar front panel. I am trying to convert the pull-down menu that I can use with USB-6221 with Windows 7, but I don't know how. Can anyone help?

    Hi smoothengine007,
You should be able to use this document's Digital Output section to see how to modify your VI:
Transition from Traditional NI-DAQ to NI-DAQmx in LabVIEW
It looks like the rest of your code can stay intact if you just replace your Traditional DAQ VIs with DAQmx VIs.

  • DAQCard-6024E returns all zeros

I am using a DAQCard-6024E on a 120MHz Pentium desktop running Windows 95 and LabVIEW Run-time 6.1. To duplicate the problem, I built an executable for the Acquire N Scans example and entered Channels 3:0, Number of Scans 1000, Scan rate 20000, and clicked Run Continuously. It works fine for an hour or so, (with occasional timeouts), but then the signal changes to identically zero (no noise and no error messages). After this, the only way I have found to get it going again is to power down the computer or hot unplug/plug the DAQCard-6024E. Re-booting without turning off the power does not work. I have been using the same DAQCard-6024E on another (much faster) computer running Windows 98 and never seen this problem.
    What is the cause of
this problem and what can I do about it?

  • Screen goes black constantly, okay with Windows

My mid-2010 21.5" iMac has been having issues for a while now.  The screen goes black randomly.  This happens anywhere from once a week to once every two seconds for days on end.  I've done plenty of research and seen similar problems but no real solutions.
    Symptoms:
Screen goes to sleep.  Shine a flashlight on it, can still see stuff, so it's just the backlight out.
It'll either happen at startup, before the Apple logo, or after using for a while.
Using a hot corner or keyboard shortcut will temporarily wake it up.
If watching video, sound still plays even though screen is black.
Had it in a 60 degree room with A/C blasting on it, no change.
    Tried resetting PRAM, SMU.
Hardware test was fine, but I can't do this when it's not actually working.
    External monitor works fine.
Really weird-  this does not happen with Windows XP.  It runs fine.  So maybe a software problem?  BUT, the problem occurs when booting from Install DVD.  So maybe not a software problem.  I was going to wipe and re-install but can't even do that due to it blacking out.
I've had it in and they replaced the LCD, didn't help.
I wish it would just permanently stop working so it'd be easier to figure out, as it is, the intermittent nature is driving me nuts.  Can anyone please help?

I meant SMC, not "SMU".  Oops.
billkline, thanks for the input, the fact that Windows works has really got me scratching my head.  That's when I went to reinstall OS X but couldn't when it blacked out on the Snow Leopard Install DVD.  Thoroughly confused now.
Also, starting tonight it now hangs on the gray startup screen for thirty seconds before booting up.  This usually is a one or two seconds before getting the Apple logo.

  • Loaded 3.6.3 on Mac with 10.5.8 - no longer get printer recognition. Pinter is there with metwork and prints with Windows XPPro

using mac10.5.8, since loading 3.6.3 can no longer access printer. Even without ff running. Pinter is a network unit that works with Windows fine. Can't even reload printer driver.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== First time FF 3.6.3 loaded

It may tell me that you are seeing the "popular" complaint about the intermittent MM behavior.  Do google searches for "skipping magic mouse" or similar wording and you will get lots of hits.
One suggestion which some have claimed works is to stick a little ball of aluminum foil between the batteries and their contacts.  The theory behind this is that not all batteries are created equal in the sense that the positive contact is slightly higher in some makes and not the others and that the ones with a shorter contact actually break contact due to the battery moving slightly in its compartment.  So the al foil is to take up the gap.
I personally cannot say this theory is valid one way or another.  I use rechargeable Sanyo Eneloops and they seem ok.

  • LaserJet 100 Color MFP M175nw with Windows 8.1

I have a LaserJet 100 MFP M175nw and I am currently using it with a PC that has Windows 8.1.  Recently upgraded to 8.1.  I bought the PC with Windows 8 and the scanner/printer worked great with that OS.  So I have been having issues with the printing/scanner ever since the upgrade.
I have it set up to print and scan wirelessly.  It would work intermittently and when it didn't, I would remove the drivers and re-install them.  Now that no longer works.  I can't even get it to work using a USB cable.  I downloaded the latest version of the drivers both the full featured and the basic versions, tried them both to no avail.  It goes through the install then it gets to 99% and takes a long time then I get a message with a red X that states,"Error,"  And the error message that goes along with it is that it timed out.  Same with both USB or wireless installs.  I read through some of the difficulties others' have been having and the last I saw was to uninstall and then re-install the driver.  That has not worked for me.  I also downloaded the Print and Scan doctor but no device was listed which does make sense since I have not been able to get through an installation.
I ran and printed wireless network test report on the printer and it mentioned that the printer couldn't find my wireless router.  But I have internet access with all other computers in the house with no issues.  I don't know how to tell my printer what SSID to search for and the password for my network.  The install files included a utility to do that but did not help.
I am stuck and would welcome any suggestion(s).
    Thank you,
    Frank

    Hi @jacobumoru,
I see that you are getting a "fatal error" during the installation. I will certainly do my best to help you.
I have provided some steps that should allow you to continue the installation without the error again.
Run the installation, immediately after connecting the USB cable, follow the steps in this document to update the drivers so it doesn't error out again. A Fatal Error Displays During Software Installation. Then the installation should continue. Temporarily turn off any Antivirus Software, just to make sure it doesn't interfere with the install.
I have provided a document for Windows 8, for How do I get into Windows Device Manager?
If you need further assistance, just let me know.
    Have a great weekend!

  • Adobe Reader XI 11.0.07 freezes intermittently on Windows 8.1 when doing "Save As"

Adobe Reader XI 11.0.07 freezes intermittently on Windows 8.1 when doing "Save As". This occurs when opening a file from Outlook or from the web. I have IE 11 and Microsoft Office 365 installed on a Toshiba Satellite P50. Windows and Office have the latest updates. There are no error messages. I can clear Adobe Reader with Task Manager. Opening the PDF again has the same result in that it may hang or work correctly when doing a “Save As” again. This occurs intermittently when charging the laptop or when on battery.

    Some things to try...
Using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement
Can you open Adobe Reader by itself?  If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
If you cannot open Reader by itself, try to disable Protected Mode in the registry; download, unzip, then run the attached registry script
It could even be a malware issue; see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/reader-core-dll-error.html

  • ISight With Windows?

I recently sold my iMac G4, and my Uncle had purchased and sent me an iSight for my Mac for my birthday. I am back on my Dell Dimension, and I was wondering if I bought the 6-pin FireWire port card, if iSight will work with Windows as a webcam and a DV Camera. If not I would like to know so I can send it back to my uncle ASAP. I would greatly appreciate replies to my email at [email protected], if you wouldn't mind. I dont get onto the internet enough to check this kinda stuff .

     Season's Greetings to all!
Good try, RJ! I don't know why some of the Apple FAQ (User tips) links work so intermittently these days????
Short answer: iSight is not the best choice for use as a PC webcam. For more info, this link iSight and the PC works. (I just tried it.)

  • K9N SLI Platinum MS7250 ver1.1 ... need help with Windows 7 install

    Hello,
Having an intermittant issue with Windows 7 32bit.  During startup Windows 7 gets stuck at the logo screen.  Not always though.  Every 7-8th reboot it will make it past and go all the way into Windows 7.  I've tried all sorts of combinations of "ebabling/disabling".  This system ran XP professional for 3 years without any issues.  Currently, I have the most luck by connecting the keyboard and mouse to PS2 and leaving USB disabled.  This may not be the issue though.  Once I got Win7 to boot I performed driver updates etc.
If someone has suggestions please let me know.  I'm about to try the USB bios flash but have never done it before.
    Thank you,

    Hi Guys,
    Thank you for the replies.
    -  Yes it is a fresh install of Windows7 on a drive that originally had XP Pro
    -  If I boot into safe mode it does go into Win7 most of the time.
    -  I posted on the MSI tech support page (http://support.msi.com/index.php) and the response was to upgrade the BIOS.  What do you think?
    -  I've been using this graphics card for three years and is nowhere near as powerful as what's out there now.  In fact all of the components are three years old except the RAM
    -  I tried the old RAM (2GB Corsair) and it also had the same issue.  Even at default RAM settings or otherwise.  Now I'm back to the 4GB Patriot Vipers.
    -  What is this capacitor problem people are referring to?  Is it a problem specifically on this model board?
    Thank you..
