DAQmx function blocks missing from Labview palette

Hi,
I have just finished installing labview 2012 development suite to my current computer including NI-DAQmx 9.4. I have done this in the past and had no problems, this time however when I open LV the DAQmx function blocks are not available to me despite everything else being there and functioning correctly including the Measurement and automation software.
I have gone through and checked to make sure that I included all components of the software and its drivers. Is there anything that I may have overlooked while doing this install that would cause the DAQmx blocks to be unavailable to me.

Did you install DAQmx before or after LabVIEW? If you installed before, you need to reinstall DAQmx. It won't take long. It just needs to add the LabVIEW support.

DAQMX vi files missing in Labview 2013

I try to open this file slinger-logger.vi [see attachment], but I can't open it, because it is missing files such as DAQmx Clear task.vi
I already tried to install several versions of DAQmx (14.1, 9.9, 9.4):

But I couldn't get the file working without those missing vi errors. Can anyone get this file working in Labview 2013? Or Labview 2012?

Why do you install random version of DAQmx, especially since 9.4 does not even support the LabVIEW 2013 or 2012 versions you mentioned. You even show the link outlining that! Pick the neswest one only!
Tell us exactly what you did:
Did you install DAQmx after installing LabVIEW and did you select support for the installed LabVIEW version?
Did you reboot after installation?

The search function is missing from my navigation toolbar

I have the navigation toolbar checked under the View menu. It shows the regular stuff but to the right of the URL site name it shows a Wikipedia search function. I don't know where that came from but I want my general search function back.

There are two ways I'm aware of where toolbar icons disappear.
One is where you make the window narrower (icons drop off as the window gets too narrow to display them).
If that's not it then it sounds like the toolbar has been customized to remove it. In that case just use View -> Customize Toolbar... and drag whatever icons you like back into the toolbar (or drag off icons you no longer want).

CIN tools missing from LabView 6i

I'm trying to communicate with an external .dll but the necessary header files are absent. I saw an earlier post in this vein, and obtained extcode.h from it, but everything that it calls is also missing. The earlier suggestion about a custom installation of the toolbox has also proved ineffectual, since it doesn't seem to be extant at all.

The CD is marked "Base Package for Windows 2000/NT/Me/9x" so I bet that's the problem. Now to go talk someone into springing for the professional version...
Although now I do have to wonder why in the "examples" folder there is a "dll" folder with sample VI's that use external code. And what's more, they work. Oh, well. Thanks!

I know, normaly your VI should not be bigger as the window screnn.
Anyway, you can use the "Print VI documentation" as explain in the following link and and choose the option "Scale block diagram to fit"

The 'Picture Task' function is missing from Adobe 9 - How do I re-install it?

Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum, so please forgive me if I'm not asking the correct questions?
I am a crafter and often receive PDF files with backing papers etc on them. I have Abode 7 which allows me to export these to other programmes. I downloaded version 9, which doesn't appear to have this function, so I un-installed it and went back to version 7. However the problem arises when people sending me PDF's are using Adobe 9. Is there a way that I can convert these PDF's to version 7.

There isn't a 'Picture Task' function in Adobe Reader 9.

Vision Acquisition Software installed, BUT why is the IMAQdx missing from the function palette?

I just installed to the labview 2011, and many other modules and softwares including this VASAugust2010. But the IMAQdx is missing from the function palette (vision and motion). However the NI-IMAQ 4.5, IN-IMAQ IO 2.4.0 and NI-IMAQdx 3.7 are all clearly listed as installed in the NI software (contorl panel -> program - NI). In MAX, my usb webcam is also listed as NI-IMAQdx Devices and works well under MAX. But my own program is broken because the LV can't find those functions. So why the IMAQdx funtion is missing and how to fix it?

Serial PDA function sub palette missing from Functions Palette in PDA Module 8.0

Hi:
I have a problem that I would like to solve without having to reinstall PDA module. Under the functions palette, Instrument I/O ... I have the Serial Compatability sub palette there but the VISA and the Serial ones are now questions marks instead of a sub palette. Has anyone had this problem and if so how is it fixed. If I copy and paste the VI's from Labview 8.0 (for PC) to the PDA vi I'm writing, they seem to work fine but what a pain that is ... anyone have an suggestions? Thanks

Hello Greycat,
The subpalettes for the VISA and Serial subVIs are suppose to be
unavailable if your target is a PDA device. LabVIEW loads a
seperate palette set for each target. Since VISA is currently not
supported on the PDA, you cannot directly open the the VISA functions
or the Serial functions when you are targeting a PDA device.
Instead, you can use the Serial Compatibility VIs, which then call the
appropriate VISA calls.

Missing functionality if storing TDSM from LabVIEW

In DIAdem File Browser window is selected a file from DIAdem 11.0 Examples directory. File FFT_Expl_1 has icon with „tree pictogram“ and „tree pictogram“ can be expanded to see content of file (Time, Oscillation), bellow of File Browser is displayed many file properties. Anyway these properties are not displayed in DataPortal area?!? See picture 1.

If I click on the file content in tree hiearchy channel Oscillation I can see properties for this channel and small graph with the signal preview. See picture 2.

To make my own data I have used examples from LabVIEW 8.6. One of these is on the picture 3 TDMS - Express write data (time and frequency domain).vi.

Every time I create TDMS data from LabVIEW 8.6 (it doesn’t matter which example I use) I see in DIAdem File Browser instead of tree icon the question mark icon?!? The question mark icon cannot be expanded by clicking on it?!? Also the amount of Shown properties is significantly lower in comparison with DIADem example files. Also no signal preview is displayed?!? How to proceed with LabVIEW and TDMS function to have possibilities of DIAdem example files?

Thank you for the great description of your problem, the Word document with the screen shots really helps with the troubleshooting.
It looks to me as if you haven't indexed the directory where your TDMS files are stored. The "?" icon indicates that the file is not indexed. If a file is not indexed, only a subset of the properties are shown in the dialogs.
The easiest way to solve this issue is to index the directory that contains you data files (your directory icons are grey, they should be yellow). This can be done by going to the directory (or subdirectory) in the DIAdem NAVIGATOR window, and right clocking on the directory name. From the context menu, select the function "Add Search Area ..." - your directory will then be transferred to the Search Areas part of the NAVIGATOR and all the TDMS files will be indexed. At the point the files will show all the properties and the "?" will disappear.

Hi Briana,
I believe I understand what you're asking, but which current DAQmx driver are you using with LV 2010? Only the 9.1.5 and above drivers are compatible with LV 2010, while many of the older drivers will still work for you in LV 8.6. Below, I've linked a compatibility chart for DAQmx drivers and Labview versions.

How do i pass a daqmx task from labview to matlab using the math interface toolkit?

I want to use DAQMX functions from Matlab using the Math Interface Toolkit (MIT). How can I have a labview function output (return) the DAQMX task to matlab via the MIT?
I want to do this so I can start a DAQMX task in Labview from a matlab function and return control to matlab without losing the task.

(I already posted this answer in your other thread, but let's keep THIS thread alive - it makes more sense here in the LabVIEW forum than in Instrument Control forum.)
Since the DAQmx Task is not a native data type that can be passed directly to MATLAB from LAbVIEW, try flattening the DAQmx Task to a string before passing to MATLAB. However, I doubt that you can access the task from within MATLAB, but feel free to give it a try.

How Many Functions And Keyboard Shortcuts etc. Are Missing From FCE 4 ?

Seven hours ago I set out to discover the answer to this but I got side-tracked and discovered my camera had a microphone channel missing !
So is there anything missing from FCE4 ?
There have been spurious claims that things like "Export to Soundtrack" have been dropped and though the actual command has disappeared the functionality is there in "Export to QuickTime".
However, I seem to remember Tom saying that a certain keyboard shortcut (which I can't remember) is missing.
Has anyone noticed any particular items that really have been omitted ? (Don't say Soundtrack or 9GB of LT Media!)

just to confirm that what you and Tom have found is the same I have so far.
A comment: while all other commands now missing in the FCE4 contextual menu are available in its standard menus, the Clip Enable command is really a ghost command. Only the control-B keyboard shortcut toggles it, there is no mention of it in any menu, but it appears in Tools/Button List. The online Help mentions a Modify/Clip Enable commands that does not actually exist, but on the other hand it does not mention its keyboard shortcut that in fact works... very clear!

Why the acquisition with DAQmx is different by using Labview 8.2 from Labview signal express?

I am using a PCi-6281 to acquire a voltage. When I am using Labview signal express with only the step to acquire I read the good signal with the exact voltage. But when I am using my VI, the y axis and the values recorded are wrong. Why this difference appears?
I insert a picture with both signal: at the top is the signal from my vi (wrong measurement) and at the bottom is the signal from labview signal express (correct).
The vi I am using is the example Cont Acqu&Graph Voltage-To file (binary).vi.

I am using the binary file because it requires the minimum change in another VI. I have tried to change in scaled data but now my second VI has not enough memory to display all data.... What's wrong? Here is my second VI. Totest with data you need to insert a number in the "scaling factor" if not the dat are multiplied by zero...

Controlling Tera Term from labview

Hi guys
In my new project I would like to send commands to Tera Term Pro. Tera Term then responds to the commands from Labview the same way as I would type the commands directly into Tera Term.
I'm able to use cmd.exe with the SystemExecute Vi, but for my program I would like to do the same with Tera Term.
I would like to send commands with a stringcontrol and get the respond in a string indicator, all in labview. Tera Term should run invisible in the background.
So for this I thought using ActiveX would be the best. I have downloaded tera term pro.
In Labview I create this from the ActiveX Palette and select browse on the ActiveX Class.
In the Tera Term folder I find many .dll's:
I have tried to open them all, but I only get this message:
Does this mean it's impossible to use Tera Term with Labview like I described?
I'm not so familiar with ActiveX, only with Excel (which is in the ActiveX Class list), so I might have missed something.
My goal was to create a sub-vi which does the communication with Tera Term, the same way SystemExecute VI is built.

Sorry for this late reply. I have been using Teraterm Macro (not Teraterm Pro serial terminal) to interface with my previous provisioning app written in LabVIEW.
Teraterm Macro is such a lifesaver in that it can easily interface with your development boards that need: (1) RS-232C, (2) FTP, (3) TFTP or (4) SSH connections. The plain-vanilla 'serial' VI's are just that - serial port only and those need additional code to work reliably. If you need a good serial port VI try Prabhakant Patil's Hyper Terminal for LV 2009 and newer. You will find an ZIP or VIPM package from LAVA (lava.org). I have used his versions countless of times and is 10x more reliable than provided in LV examples.
You will indeed use the System-Exec.VI to call Teraterm Macro since *sigh* no one has written a wrapper for the DLLs (as you mentioned they are built for .Net framework. I have talked with the current developers and they are willing to give anyone the pass to extend Teraterm for LabVIEW so C++ devs out there with good LabVIEW knowledge should re-build the DLLs as static libraries that can be called from within LabVIEW. For now, this is the only way and it is a kludge - but it works - just not in a way you expect.
Here you can see that I am building the command line arguments before I call the system-exec node. Refer to the excellent how-to instructions at:

Teraterm Macro will be spawned (opened) like it would when called from the command line. Its std input & output are not tied to your VI. You can merely pass arguments to the system-exec node. This is the reasons why we need someone to recompile the Teraterm Macro DLL as a static library (anyone?) so we can build a wrapper VI around the functions. Then its std inputs and outputs can be tied to LabVIEW's controls and indicators - hence, it becomes LV native.
