SSince the update, I have no keyboard clicks on my iPad, no sound on many of the apps, And searching with the Duck is like going back to the dark ages. I hate Google but at least it works! I am getting soooo tired of releases that aren't fully de-bugged before they're released.

  • So... I backed up all my stuff on my computer via time machine and wiped and re-installed my system... NOW WHAT re: iPhone? I want all of my music on my phone to sync to my iTunes on my computer. I've been a mac-chick since the dark ages. Impossible?

I simply want this: All my junk from my old iTunes on my new system, all my junk from my iPhone on new system. All in well-backed up place on my time machine backup.
Is it really this hard? It shows up in ITunes and all that jazz, everything is updated, and perfected, I'm anal like that.

Did you restore your iTunes library using TimeMachine?
Did you restore your iPhone backup folder? iPhone and iPod touch: About backups
To copy the data from your phone to your Mac, follow this article: How to back up your data and set up as a new device
    Or do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, set up your iTunes account and authorize, connect your phone to your Mac and right click on it in the device list and choose backup.iTunes will backup your phone without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way.
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your Mac, to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the phone for the first time.

  • In the Dark Ages here

okay, i have finally broken down and agreed to buy a gadget that can play MP3 files, so my son can download music from amazon.com. i have no idea which "gadget" to buy -- i am still in the portable CD era.
i have a new Intel iMac, so whatever i buy must be compatible with it.
do i have to get an iPod to play MP# files? $250 is a little over my budget! but my husband says any MP3 player will do (however he's a Luddite like me). i don't even know what a MP3 player is. my son is only 8, so he can't enlighten me about these new technologies. i am trying my best to get "with it" (i am going to Apple tutoring at the store to learn how to use my new iMac). iTunes and iPhoto are next on my list of things to learn.

Although "any MP3 player" will work, iTunes is made to synchronize music with iPods, so you can easily move your playlists onto your iPod. If you go with another generic MP3 player, you will use the Finder to drag the song files onto the player, and set up folders on there to make playlists.
There's pros and cons to both ways. People coming from the PC like to use the file method and they complain that they can't just "grab their files" when working with an iPod.
I prefer the iTunes method, since it's smarter and easier to manage songs and playlists (no duplicate files for example), and I can set it up to synchronize automatically as well. This means that a song you add to iTunes will show up on the player automatically when you plug it in.
As for docks etc., you don't need them. You can just use the standard cable, but docks are nice when you take the thing in and out quite often, and they just look tidier on the desk...

  • K7N2 Delta-L deteriorating cmos resets

    Hi
    System info :
    K7N2 Delta-L mobo
    XP2500 Barton
    2 x 256mb Samsung (Korean) PC3200
    Coolermaster CP5-8JD1F-0L hsf
    PNY ti4200 128mb
    Maxtor 40g 7,200 hd
    Pioneer DVD
    LG CD-RW
    2 x 80mm case fans
    1st psu 400w generic
    2nd psu Thermaltake 420w
All installed with first psu, and XP pro. Running no problems. Tested cpu at 11 x 200 (not straight off, gradually built up to it, watching for stability or temp problems), was running fine at stock voltages, ran 3d mark 2001 successfully. Backed things off to 10.5 x 200 to ensure stability. Re-ran 3dmark 2001, then ran prime95 overnight (8+ hours), with no problems at all. Temperatures were fine, I set the cpu temperature alarm well into the safe side in the bios (55deg). The highest cpu temperature PC Alert displayed, was 29 deg.
Updated the bios to 5.3, rebooted and checked the settings in the bios, went back into XP, no probs, re-ran 3dmark, went online, and started to play Dark Age of Camelot. After somewhere around 2 - 3 hours, the display started to "stutter", and the mouse movement became erratic. I logged off, checked PC Alert temps, all was fine, but 12v line had gone down to 11.56v. Rebooted to check the volts in the bios. They were down too, also the blue line selector had acquired a mind of its own, randomly headed anywhere when next item was selected, so I switched off, and guessing the psu to be maybe a bit inadequate, ordered the Thermaltake 420w to replace the 400w generic.
The Thermaltake arrives, install and fire up, after clearing the cmos to start again, and set up with basics. Voltages were all very satisfactory. In the meantime I had checked the cpu seating and thermal compound, and there had been no problems, and I also took the heatsink off the ti4200 to check thermal compound, cleaned and re-applied (as I did with the cpu).
On the fire up into XP, got a bsod with file corruption notice. Booted into Me install cd, formatted the drive, loaded smartdrv, and started a new XP install. The system locked up after a successful install, about 2 minutes into the worktop (went to use windows explorer to access drivers, etc., and it froze). Had to use the reset button, and it would not post. Cleared the cmos, and it posted. Reflashed the bios to 5.2 that was on the distribution cd just in case.
Since then, it has been a catalogue of failed installs, lockups and increasingly difficult clearing of the cmos. It is now at the point that a cmos clear does nothing (with the other pins at 100 and safe mode), and it fails to post. I get to the 3 lights flashing on the keyboard, and that is it.
I removed the board from the case, just in case I had hallucinated and missed a riser or something, but the risers were in the right place, and each had a fibre washer on top. Tried booting with the board out of the system, with just the cpu/hsf/memory/graphics, with no joy, also tried with a Gf 4 mx 440, and also no joy.
In retrospect, I don't think the 400w psu was too bad to drive the system, but it was worth being cautious - it has driven another system with no problems since. The cpu was performing great, as was the memory. There was no problem with the hsf or agp card. Memory was tried single stick in each memory slot (and all of it had flown through 3dmark and prime95 previously).
I am tempted to suspect something is adrift to do with the Athlon powersaving mode that has been mentioned in these forums. Other than that, there was something a bit weak on the mobo, and it has slowly bitten the dust.
    Any suggestions gratefully received.

    PS.
The case is one of those Superflower Midi towers, with good case volume. Airflow was quite nice with the 2 extra fans, one at front pulling in, the other at rear extracting.
The fan on top of the heatsink, is the standard Coolermaster, which overhangs the heatsink either side, with the bonus of blowing a nice airflow over the northbridge.
The 400w generic psu had 2 fans, which were also pulling a fair airflow through the case. I didn't get any indications of anything even aproaching overheating.

  • MS-6380 Memory Problem

I have a MS-6380E with the latest BIOS and chipset drivers. Athlon 1.5 Ghz processor, Geo4 Ti series card with 64MB ram and latest drivers and an SBLive Platinum 5.1 card, with the latest drivers. Windows XP Pro is the operating system. The system has 2 PC2100 256MB sticks of DDR ram on the board. This past weekend I tried to install a 3rd chip, PC2100 512MB chip to bring the system up to a Gig of ram. The system would reboot immediatly upon logging into Windows. I took the memory back and exchanged it for another. Installed it with similar results. I tried all three slots with the new memory and the two existing. No, I didn't try the new memory by itself. I finally go it to appear stable for a little bit but I also play Dark Age of Camelot and the latest symptoms were that the system would kick me back to the desktop as soon as I got to the initial "connecting" screen in Dark Age. I also had other odd behaviour with the additional ram installed like my modem taking longer to validate my connection. When I went back to the pre-existing configuration 512MB total, everything would stabilize. The DDR brand was Centron, I know it's not the same manufacturor as my other two sticks but I don't recall the brand on those.  Also, just in case you needed to know Dark Age of Camelot is an MMORPG. I checked their tech section and nothing on this problem and their game. I've since returned the memory and have resigned to maxing out at 512MB tho the system specs say I can go to 3GB. I really like this board but am frustrated at the memory problem.

  • GF4 4400Ti Crash to Desktop OR BSOD

Okay ive been thinkering alot with my pc lately since as of last week i cant play anything else than NetHack wihtout my computer crashing....... do i need to say im in a near panic state .. anyway
    here are my computer specs
    Athlon XP 1800+
    512mb DDR 333
    Gigabyte VRXP Via KT333 Motherboard
    SB Live! 5.1 Plat
Some pci modem .. (dont ask me its not even writen on the card)
    Gf4 Ti 4400 128mb MSI
    350W enermax psu
Ok the problems i get are Either Weird BSOD, Lockups, Reboots Or games simply crash to desktop .. and lately it has gone bad .. i cant play anything for more than 30 secs... Example  ... latest i bought Sim City 4, Dark Age of Camelot does it alot as well. No need to tell how frustrating it is.
Now ive read somewhere that crashes to desktop are due to CPU lacking power ... and that weird crashes stuff are due to AGP lacking power... now .. ive tried to boost my CPU voltage as high as i could without overheating it... still crashes .. and well i didnt want to mess with agp voltage .. vid cards are expensive ..
So if any1 have the solution or knows if the problem is just i need a 400W psu .. let me know  oh .. and also it was working fine b4 .. this all happened recently . ?(

Actually i have an irq conflict .. my onboard NIC always get same Irq as my SB live and also a weird thing i noticed win2k likes to assign my devices weird irqs .. like 16+ ... do that even exist?
my vid card is on irq 5 ,sb on irq 7, nic irq7, Raid irq 10
and i diabled all USB coz they were all tagging the raid controller on irq 10
also i have 3 HD .. two 30gig in RAID 0 mode and a 82 gig on the IDE channel with a CDR TEAC 4x

  • Looking for a good TV Tuner card.

    Hello all,
I'm looking into getting a good TV tuner card that will work for cable and satellite (if possible).  I have Rogers cable and a unused Starchoice Satellite dish that I might use down the road.
I don't really know anything about TV tuners, so, I would appreciate a few suggestions on which will work good with my rig and cable or satellite.
Or do you guys think I should go for the ATI All-In-Wonder graphics card?  I do play games like FEAR, Quake3, Dark age of camelot, etc...
Or stick with the geforce 7800 GT + TV tuner option?
Thanks for any advise you can give me
    Alex

as you've posted in the MSI TV tuner forum, we're only going to give advice on MSI products here
personally, i'd always stick with a seperate VGA card and TV card solution
if you're looking for a good analogue capture card, and picture quality is important, then maybe a hardware MPEG2 capture card, such as the MSI Theater 550PRO-E is the best choice for you
as your board has PCI-E 1x slots, this is an even better choice, as PCI cards can sometimes encounter lack of resources on newer PCI-E boards, especially SLI boards

A few things you can try
    -install the latest chipset drivers
    -install the latest VGA drivers
-check that the card isn't over heating
-turn off AGP fast writes if they are enabled (in the bios or ATi control panel)

  • KT4 Ultra & ATI 8500DV

I just built a new system (first time) using a KT4 Ultra motherboard.  It was suggested by a friend who builts alot of computers.  I want to do video capture and burn DVDs so he also suggested the ATI 8500DV.  I read about it and like all the features.
System will not POST with ATI 8500DV.  I bought a cheaper card (Pine 32MB 3D Phantom XP-2800) to get the system up and running while I try to debug the 8500DV.  I have updated the AMI BIOS to 1.3.  I also reduced the AGP to 2x.  My FSB is set at 100.
    Any suggestions on
HOW TO GET THE 8500DV WORKING?
I took the 8500DV card to a shop in town where I bought the Pine AGP card.  He checked it on another motherboard with no problems.

I'm having problems as well with my aiw Radeon 8500dv on the KT4 ultra. I have everything updated except the bios Currently running v1.2. I can't seem to make a bootdisk that'll give me access to the C: drive so I can't update to 1.3 (got 1.2 through live update, and it created the bootdisk for me, don't understand why 1.3 doesn't showup there).
Originally I had problems with graphics not rendering properly in Dark Age of Camelot, other characters warping around or ghosting and world objects not loading, I've fixed that for the most part by getting help on with what everything in my bios should be set to. However, I'm also having trouble with DVD playback not working properly, I get constant artifacting on anything that moves.

  • Can a faulty master socket cause linkdead / dropou...

I'm connecting to a Dark Age of Camelot server in the US (206.112.64.6) on BT Infiinity and my accounts are going linkdead every 3-5 minutes (when local game client loses connection with the server). This has been happening since I noticed that the cable to our master socket is threadbare and thee are individual wires poking out of the back of the socket (which is not attached to the wall).
Last time i had this problem, it was a routing issue between me and the server which BT was responsible for causing, but that was 8 months ago.
What can I do to remedy this. Below is a trace to the destination server. Web browing seems unaffected, as is Skype and Ventrillo (VOIP)

I'm not decorating my house in lead emulsion No problems with wireless connectivity since the week-long problem that BT caused back in March or whenever it was and since them my connections been solid. Like I said, it doesnt affect VOIP connections (I game while using Ventrilo) which may or may not be less sensetive to a temporary loss of connectivity.
if BT want to move my socket somewhere more appropriate then fine. Not many people people i'd imaging have a computer in the front hallway of their house, next to the front door. besides, what's the point of providing a wireless router if not for convenience
Either its a BT socket problem (inside the box are 2-3 loose wires not connected to anything) or its a wider network problem between me and the server.

  • Is nVidia's SLI needed ?

    No way !
SLI and the UPGRADE that comes with it is absoLUTELY Expensive/and not needed.
I took mine back and got what I have now but let's even say you buy it all, Ok WoW look at this Figuire :/
    2 x 6800U PCIe 700.00+ US Each !! WOW ! If u can get one. :/
Then The Mobo is 250.00US thats alot in itself.
Then a NEW PSU, WHAT you say !! Yep no kiddin a New eATX PSU is Now gonna be common.. add another 150.00+
    CPU - 300.00US + (upto 700.00 +)
    Just those 3 is a WHOPPING !
2100.00+, Simply Mind Boggling when they just came out with the AGP 6800 Ultra then now they want ya to get this stuff ? NO WAY !!!!!!!
If u have a current system with a AMD64 setup and a(Good card like 6800NU,U,GT) AGP, PCIe is not worth it in any way. It's just simply a hype which I found out the expensive way. !

Well zero games supporting SLI is maybe an overstatement .

  • MOVED: K8n Neo 4 acting wierd

This topic has been moved to AMD64 nVidia Based board.
    K8n Neo 4 acting wierd

I just built a new computer with this board.   I run an online graphical game (Dark Age of Camelot) for 1 hour, and then the virtual memory overloads and crashes the game.  I do NOT have any of your other symptons tho.  Possibly related?  Latest drivers for everything, no viruses or spyware to be found.  I havnt been able to locate this problem.

  • 5900FX Locking up with DAOC

I just recently built my first computer.  It works great with the exception of playing Dark Age of Camelot, online.  The screen freezes, and the video stops.  It may do it several times in a hour, or not at all.  I end up having to hold in the power button to shut down the computer when it happens.  I am new to building computers and am hoping I am just missing a setting somewhere. Any help would be appreciated.
    The computer is:
    Soyo motherboard P4X400
    3.06 Ghz P4 with 533 Mhz FSB
    512 MB PC2700 Ram
250 GB Western Digital HD 8Mb Cache

Are there any more details you can provide?  I would have included the following if I were asking the question:
    iMac model (e.g. early 2008)
    Amount of RAM memory installed
A detailed description of "lockup" (e.g. "It locks up every time I launch iPhoto") and whether it's consistent or sporadic.
If this iMac has multiple accounts, does it happen with all of them?
What I've already tried to correct the issue
Of course, there may be folks here with better telepathy skills than I possess.

  • 1GB vs. 1.5GB vs. 2GB

My motherboard (See signature) supports the following:
    http://users.wpi.edu/~jayrod/RAM/MB01.png
Therefore, it is probably best for me to use 2 of 3 RAM slots (DDR400 vs. DDR333).
    Should I use:
    2x512MB BL6464Z402 DDR PC3200 2-2-2-6 (Can run at DDR400) [$171.98]
    OR
    3x512MB BL6464Z402 DDR PC3200 2-2-2-6 (Can run at DDR333) [$257.97]
    OR
    2x1024MB CT12864Z40B DDR PC3200 CL=3 (Can run at DDR400) [$283.98]
The system (See signature) is to be used for gaming…mainly Dark Age of Camelot.
The system is not over-clocked, and if I do any over-clocking at all, it will be with the stock HSFs.

    1.st choice 1024+1024 .
Reason only four memory ranks for the A64 memory controller to handle
Most memory total and best DDR speed .
    2.nd choice 512+512+512 .
Reason 1.5G even at 333DDR and 2T (six memory ranks for the memory controller) helps if you are gaming and will
minimize stutter/load pauses in new games (e.g BF2 , FEAR etc.)
    From forceware 75 releasnotes :
GeForce 6 Series: Stuttering occurs in the game EverQuest II.
Using high-quality/maximum-visual game settings on a PC with less than
1.5 GB of system memory—EverQuest II's highest quality settings are
extremely hardware intensive (graphics, memory, and CPU).
Guess this is not the only game with this intensity .
    3'rd choice 512+512
Can also be second choice if you are not gaming with memory intensive games .
If DDR speed and faster timings is prefered .
