Dark arch shadow on images

Hi! I'm trying to trouble shoot a problem I'm having with my camera. There is a dark shadow-looking arch that is showing up on almost all of my images. I'm having this problem with multiple lenses so I know it's a camera issue and not a lens one. Has anyone seen this before? Any ideas as to what is causing this? Thanks for your help!

I'm wonder if there isn't a "hair" on your sensor (technically there are two filters in front of the sensor so it's not really on the "sensor" but on the glass filter in front of the sensor.)
To test this,
1) please set your camera to Av mode.
2) Find a plain image with little to no contrast (the more plain, the better). A plain white wall or white ceiling works extremely well.
3) Set the camera to it's MINIMUM f-stop (run the main dial (top near the shutter button) the the lowest f-stop possible and take an exposure. If your lens goes down to f/3.5 use f/3.5. For this test if you are shooting a plain scene such as a white wall it actually does not matter if your subject is in focus or if the shutter speed is too slow to hand-hold the camera.... that's because we're not trying to study the scene but rather than shadow cast onto the sensor).
4) Set the camera to it's MAXIMUM f-stop this will likely be f/22 but some lenses do f/32 -- again, but adjusting the main-dial (near shutter button) to the highest value. The high f-stop will require a much longer exposure time. Take an exposure.
Unload the images and look at them on your computer.
If the shadow is caused by something resting on the "sensor" (really the filter in front of the sensor) then you'll have a weak but broad shadow at low f-stops and sometimes it may be very hard to even notice that it's there. But the image taken at a high f-stop will have a much more distinct shadow.
This can explain why you only see the problem in "some" images.
If it is on the "sensor" -- don't panic. It's very easy to clean if you know how.

If I understand your problem correctly, then right-click on one of the develop section labels (or in the blank space below) and assure basic section is enabled, e.g.

I know an alternative is to edit the FXZ file.

Please read this post then provide some details. What printer model? What operating system? What program are you printing from?
Some programs such as Photoshop give the option to print to CMYK or sRGB color spaces. Even though the printer uses CMYK inks the driver is expecting sRGB data. If CMYK is selected the prints will be much too dark.
Another thing to check is the media type. If you are printing on plain paper and have seelcted Photo paper the prints have too much ink.

Unwanted drop shadow ghost images in prints....Anybody?

I am using photoshop to color seperate using the magic wand tool. I seperate about 4 colors and every time I print each layer of color, on the actual print there is random drop shadows/ghost images of the print. I made new images and drag each layer sepratley, flatten the image, erase everything around the image, and when I print it still happends, even when there is absolutley no other pixels on the image. This is very challenging. I hope someone can give me some advice. This does not happen with other 1 layer images, it only seems to happen when I seperate colors. Thank you for your time.

No, unfortunately I can’t help You there.
In the company I work at I needn’t concern myself with the printers and the RIP much because they are one of my colleagues responsibility.
But if a file is definitely OK and the output is not, it seems natural to me to assume that the error has happened further downstream and that would seem to leave the printer and the RIP.
Have You tried printing the images from a different program like Indesign or Acrobat?

Probably fully depends on the quality of AIF. The current method is very KISS and easy.

Dark uniform shadows on screen

Dark uniform shadows on screen approx an inch apart showed up on startup. Appear to start on the bottom of screen and fade as it goes up to top. Any way to fix this?

I'm not sure whether I'm understanding the problem correctly, but it sounds like a hardware issue to me. Get it checked out by Apple. If you live near an Apple Store, make an appointment at the Genius Bar and take the machine in for them to look at.

Revolution Theme Background Shadows or Image Mask

Hello Again.
Despites wise advise of ¨just call me dude¨I obtain what I need, He oppens a new interrogative.
How to modify background´s image mask. It drops some kind of shadow at the upper right side of the image and become´s dark in that place.
That is great, but I am tryiong to find how to eliminate it or make it less dark.
I know this is a hard question, but I´ll give a chance to destiny to point me in the right path.
I checked the adress http://digitalproducer.digitalmedianet.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=67633 and opened the file ThemeDescription7.plist and search into it with plistedit pro, but I have no idea where to find a clue on that, as I am not a English reader, I have no idea about the name of that effect who affects the image I drag into the sceene and to the background. I looked for shadow, but no changes, blur, but no blur at all.

I followed what you are asking. I downloaded Plistedit pro, and found the steps to modify the Reflections blurring in iDVD 6 themes. The same process does not work for iDVD 7 (08), because the Revolution theme is not organized in the source file in the same way. I could not locate a similar folder with the Resource option.
I think this may be able to be done, but not with the same steps as given in the example on the link you provided.
There probably is a command to lighten the background of the Revolution theme, but the steps listed for PlistEdit are for themes prior to iDVD 8.
Maybe you should contact PlistEdit and get instructions for use with iDVD 7(08), and post them back here

Why is there a dark rectangular shadow in black areas on my 7g ipod nano's screen?

I recently got the new (7th gen) iPod nano after my 5th gen's battery died. I was very satisfied at first: nice screen, GUI, and other steps up from my old nano. But when viewing pictures, I noticed shapes in the black margins. As far as I could tell, they didn't portrude into the picture or was caused by it. Curious to see if it was just the image, I plugged it into my computer to see if it would appear on the almost solid black "Connected Eject before disconnecting" screeen. Sure enough, there was a darker rectangular shape in the middle, about 44mm from the edges to the edges of the screen. I also noticed that instead of right-angles as you'd normally find in a rectangle, the were rounded off. Also, at the bottom (the part closer to the eject text) the lines that form the rectangle bended toward the home button, but never touch the actual boundary of the screen. I'm not sure if this is normal. I am planning on returning this iPod if no help arises.Thank you for any help or suggestions.

Sorry for the shabby photo quality. I was just wondering if this was normal. In fact, I want to an Apple outlet to see if there was a shadow on a display iPod, and there wasn't. I'm just not sure if this might get worse over time.

Shadow layer - Image sequence

Hello,
i have a little image sequence of a dvd player opening its drive.
I didn't create the animation myself, I've just received the png sequence and a shadow layer png sequence extracted from Lightwave.
After importing both sequences into After Effects, I'm not quite sure what to do with the shadow layer. It doesn't seem like a normal black/white alpha layer, notice the sand-colored background.
I need to put a custom background image in the background, so how do I properly apply this shadow layer in my composition.

I have a grayscale image in a box and when I apply a drop shadow to the box the image goes visibly lighter, -- loses contrast etc.
I switched to High Quality Display to see if it was just some quirk with Typical Display but there was no change, I then printed out a copy on the printer with and without the drop shadow and the version with the drop shadow printed lighter as well.
What the...?

If you want to maintain the gray values at output (the grayscale outputs to the black plate) you can't set the blend space to RGB. If a grayscale has transparency applied and the blend space is RGB it effectively becomes an RGB object and would need to be separated to 4-color at output or export to CMYK.
The reason for the differing previews is that ID has no grayscale color management or spacea grayscale's preview is either managed as an RGB or CMYK object. If you place a flattened grayscale with Overprint and Separation Preview turned off, the grayscale previews as if it were a 2.2 gamma RGB object. You can see this if you screen capture a placed grayscale in ID and then open the original and assign it a 2.2 gamma grayscale profile in PS. The preview of the grayscale and screen capture will be identical.
Once you turn on Overprint or Separation Preview the grayscale is previewed as if were a CMYK object with the grayscale on the black plate. In this case the preview is driven by the ID doc's CMYK profile. If you are using the correct profile, the Overprint/Separation preview is more accurate than the Overprint off 2.2 gamma preview. For flattened grayscales the differing previews has no effect on CMYK outputthe gray values are always output unchanged to the black plate when the output destination is document CMYK.

Adding a shadow to image in PS Elements 8

I am pretty new to PS and still trying to figure out most things, such as working with layers.
I have an image of one of our products we manufacture that I removed the background with the Magic Extractor Tool. Now I would to put some type of shadow on it so it doesn't appear as though it is floating in air. Can someone advise me this is possible and how to do it? I have found some instructions on drop shadows, but it must have been for a different version of PS or I just couldn't understand and follow it.

Open picture file, duplicate background layer, work on background copy layer
Select hammer. It was on a solid white background, therefore I used the magic wand tool to select the background and hit delete on keyboard. The hammer should have "marching ants" around it, and the surrounding area should have a checkerboard pattern, which denotes transparency. You can use any of the selection tools!
Open the Effects palette, select Drop shadows from the drop-down, used High shadow, applied. Double click the f on the layer with the shadow to bring up the style settings dialog to fine tune.
Placed a blank layer beween background and background copy layers, and filled with red
Select>deselect gets rid of the marching ants

Help Please with fixing an ugly shadow on image of a painting

I hope it's OK to ask advice on the technique needed to fix an image. I am used to processing images and making global adjustments but I wonder if there's away around this. My last resort will be to clone or heal but I want to retain the integrity of the image (it's of a painting). It has a shadow on it from the easle it was sat on whilst photographing.

Since you said you were familiar with making global adjustments, I did sort of
what KatWoman did and made a rough lasso selection (with just a bit of feather
- not much for now) then added an adjustment layer (curves, or whatever, or,
as I did, the dreaded levels - center slider to 1.8-ish - for my quickie
attempt), which creates a mask from the selection, and adjusted to suit. Then
I brushed at the mask with a nice large, soft edged, brush at low opacity to
soften the transition. This lets you continually brush out-to-in with black or
in-to-out with white, and lets you continue to play with the adjustment
settings, too.
Some of the artist's brush detail is still obviously going to be missing due
to the lack of detail in the shadow, but it's not bad for some purposes.

Dark green previews and images

i've seen alot of comments about this, but can't get any of the previously mentioned fixes to work
i import RAW and JPG files from the card placed in the card slot of my iMac. images captured on Lumix GX1.
all images prior to 10.7.4 update have normal preview and full view image. images since update have dark green preview and full view in aperture. in other applications, images display normally.
have tried the terminal script idea and no luck (yes, removed the space). any ideas?

what is your Aperture version? Have you upgraded to the latest version?
Maybe your raw decode presets file is corrupted.
Try to move the presets from your user library to the desktop, after quitting Aperture and logging off and on again. The presets file is located here:
Your home folder > Library > Application Support > Aperture > Raw Decode Presets.plist
To reveal your user library in the Finder use the Finder's "Go" menu from the main menu bar: select "Go" and hold down the alt/options key, until the library appears in the drop down menu, then select and open it.
Then navigate to the subfolder "Application Support > Aperture" and drag the Raw Decode Presets.plist to the Desktop; launch Aperture and try again.
