Dark area on lcd

I have T60 2623-D6U running XP, all updates, with no system problems.
This model has a high res 14 inch lcd.  About a month ago a dark area appeared on the lower sixth of the screen,
starting about midway from the ribbon cable and continuing over to the indicator light panel.  It's about three inches high
and two inches wide.  It's not getting any worse, but is very annoying.  Is it worth it to replace the lcd?  How
do I determine the exact part number? Is there any possibility that it isn't the lcd that is the problem?
I don't have any issues when using external monitor.

those symptoms really sound like the panel. Are you looking to replace the whole assembly or the bare panel? Be careful of eBay panels. Many sellers list T42/T43 panels as T60 panels. They have the same manufacturer's part number but a different revision. They won't work and will likely damage your motherboard. The whole assemblies tend to run about $100 - $120 + shipping on eBay, so you need to decide if it is bad enough to spend the money. I have one on a machine that just came in, but it has not been tested yet. If you are interested, send me a PM and I'll check it out. If you want the bare panel, there are many part numbers, but it is important that you confirm that the FRU on the back is for a T60.

  • White pixels appear on dark areas on rMBP

    Since 10-12-12 there suddenly appeared small, single pixel, white dots on web pages and other applications with darker areas. Many of the dots come in pairs and move with the image, ruling out display problem.
    I took into the Apple store and the tech determinded that it was an OS problem and suggested I reinstall the OS. To come to this conclusion the tech ran several tests including screen display and external OS tests.
    After I installed a new OS, the problem persisted. The next step was to call AppleCare and see what else could be done. They suggested a completer erase and clean install of the OS... no better.
    I was able to restore to a backup post pixel problem and now waiting on a solution. Anyone else...?

    Blue Pixels appearing? hmmm, not good---take a look and see how many and if it is distracting -- there are pixel pix programs you can try and use, however, LCD screens are know for a dead pixel here and there. Whats weird is that the pixels are blue? Usually when a pixel dies, its colorless. If you are getting a great deal on the PB (as in real cheap) and the lixel issue isnt to bad -- then take a shot at it. You always get what you pay for.

  • Disturbing red pixel mosaic in dark areas.

    In PowerMac G4 MDD with ATI radeon 9800, the LCD display shows red or blue pixels in a places which should be dark.
    If there should be black in the video, in the screen, there is some kind of cubical fractal pattern of red pixels in opacity of 15 %.
    Like this:
    http://koti.welho.com/tsuonio1/LCD-DISPLAY-PROBLM.jpg
    When the same displays is connected to old B&W G3 black shows out black, and if the display is connected to be a PowerBooks external display, the image is fine.
    So my suppose is that the problem is in graphic card...
    ...any idea what might be the problem and how to fix it?

    I have very similar issues with red and green pixels, dots and lines that seem to halo any change from light to darker areas of the screen, often fringing those gradations. It is especially bad in any movie that I play. I have a PMG4 dual 1.25Ghz with an upgraded ati radeon 9600 pc & mac edition card running a dell 30" lcd. I've done all the usual suggested, but I am seeing this online as a widespread ati/30" phenomenon as well on ACD 30" and Dells both. About every report I've seen about this is about an ATI card. The only "cure" is to reduce colors to thousands which I don't like and won't allow me to run iPhoto slideshows etc.
    I hope someone has an answer, I have a few days before returning these two items and coming up with a new solution.

  • IMac Dark Area Left Side Screen

    Worked late couple of nights ago - watched the left side of the screen go darker. Turned the iMac off for 15 minutes - and the screen was okay again.
    Till today... the dark area - left side of screen - turned up again. Disappeared again for 5-10 seconds and the problem reoccured.
    The iMac is cold at the bottom of the screen but pretty hot in the top... wondered if it has something to do with the heat generated.
    Often happens when iMac is turned on for several hours.
    Any ideas?
    The iMac is from fall 2009.

    Greetings,
    Sounds like the backlight behind the LCD is going out.

  • How can I get rid of the dark area on top one third of my iphone screen which spoils my background image?

    How can I get rid of the dark area on top one third of my iphone screen which spoils my background image?
    It seems this problem is caused by the software to increase the readibility of upper letters (clock battery etc.) It be nice to leave us the control of choosing background letter color too if we are using brighter images or darker images.
    I'm using iphone 4s and it appeared after I updated to new patch. 7.1.1.

  • Ipod nano screen discoloration or darker area

    Hello, I purchased an ipod nano on September 18th and did not purchase an extended warranty. I have noticed when i got it that on the screen there is a little discoloration or darker area in the center of the screen, it is more visible when held farther away, or while palying the game brick. (because of the diffrent color of the back ground, easier to see.) It can also be seen while the ipod is off and if you tilt it at an angle. Is there any way I could get this one repaired, since it is with-in 30 days of purchase? Also if I can get it repaired, what would be the price if I decide to get an extended warranty for my ipod nano? Thanks very much, Matt

    It's difficult to know what exactly is wrong with the iPod, but if it were me I would take it to an Apple store and have them take a look.
    The iPod warranty is for 12 months from the date of purchase, and if you have no Apple store nearby, you can arrange online service.
    Service request.
    The AppleCare extended warranty is $59. You can get this at the online store or a retail store.

  • How to remove dark areas from scanned book PDFs?

    Hello,
    When scanning chapters from a book, I get large dark areas where the scanner picks up 'dead space' from the spine and around the perimeter of the book. I have been able to remove these using the 'Redaction' tool but when I go to save the PDF the size of the file at least doubles in size. Is there a better way to remove dark areas and, if not, is there a way to reduce the size of the PDF without reducing the quality of the text?
    Thanks.

    Thanks Bill@VT.
    I have been able to remove the dark areas using the redaction tool but when I go to save all my files are at least twice their original size.
    How can I stop this from happening?

  • Dark areas in photos looks different in Loupe and Develope

    First let me say that I´ve created a similar thread in lightroomforums.net.
    Let me also add that I´ve made extensive research on the web and also read this post: Why does the color and or tone of my image change after import?
    This is my current setup.
    I run lightroom 5.6, OSX 10.10.
    I have been shooting with a 7D or a EOS M in RAW, Adobe RGB With picture style set to standard and no JPG´s.
    I have imported my photos as DNG´s with no develop settings applied and build previews set to 1:1 (I have tried different settings here).
    I have my Catalog Settings / Preview Cache set to 2880 pixels, quality: High (I have also tried different settings here) (I have a very big screen)
    Now to my problem.
    Now when I review my photos in 1:1 (or any other size) the dark areas looks good in develop module but when i go back to Loupe the dark areas have a slightly brighter, less contrast look.
    This problem only occurs in the darkest parts and does not effect the rest of the image. The overall picture looks the same except for the very darkest parts.
    I have tried different monitor calibration settings but the issue persists.
    I have tried to create a new catalog, import some new shots but with no difference.
    I have also done the same but instead of import to DNG´s I have copied the CR2´s, no difference.
    I have tried to optimized the catalog and I have also "Update DNG previews and metadata", no difference.
    When "edit file in photoshop CC" the version of the photo that opens in photoshop is the "Loupe" view.
    This only happens with RAW/DNG files and not with TIFF or JPG.
    Here is a picture that in my case looks very bad in Loupe view but significantly better in Develop View: Dropbox - IMG_3662.dng
    I will also try to post two screendumps at 2:1 from the the two views. The picture with more darks in it is the screendump from the develop module and the less dark is from the loupe view.
    Why is this occurring? How can I stop it?
    Any help is highly appreciated.
    UPDATE:
    I have taken 4 new shots with the same setup as described above.
    But with different color settings and picture styles.
    Adobe RGB - Standard
    Adobe RGB - Neutral
    sRGB - Standard
    sRGB - Neutral
    With the same results. Dark areas look darker in Develope module.

    Why do you use the Blend Modes Lighter and Darker at all in this case and not simply Normal?
    And what kept you from posting a screenshot?
    I borrowed the image below for an HDR workshop I ran at the 2010 PSNZ National Convention, to demonstrate a method of removing halos.  You'll remember that halos were a serious problem with early HDR, and while the halos in this image were caused by over sharpening, they are perfect for demonstrating this technique.
    It relies on the fact that halos so often tend to put a lighter tone between the two areas where sharpening is being applied. Whether that is the sky abutting a dark line of hills, or the rock and little tower as in this image.  I've uploaded it at the size it was supplied to me at (about 2700 pixels wide).  So
    Click to open the full image, right click and copy, and paste into Photoshop.
    Select the clone tool, and set its blend mode to Darken.
    Try to sample on a line horizontal to where you want to clone, to give the best tonal match, and start cloning.
    Because the sky is darker than the halo, it overwrites it. But the rock is darker than the sky, so it has no affect.
    It works even better if you clone on a new layer also set to Darken.  No masking, just Photoshop blend mode magic.
    You can also fix the little tower. Use a great big brush — just remember to sample horizontal to match the horizon.
    Back then I was using the same trick with CAs after forgetting to fix them in ACR, and having done too much work to start again after spotting the problem.

  • Screen tinted blue and with dark areas

    When I tilt my screen backwards beyond right angle to the keyboard the colors get pale and blue-tinted and dark areas appear at the bottom of the screen.
    It's an 18 months old replacement screen I had installed by an Apple dealer at great cost because the original screen just went black.
    Any idea what this could be and how fixeable it is?

    SEVEN lines at the moment and keep appearing. APPLE just doesn´t takes responsability on this issue. No responsability, no nothing. They just say " its more 600 euros for a new display". One more costumer that they lose. I was going to invest all of my office hardware design in new MACS but at this point, they left me in my own hands. A 2.500 euros Powerbook G4 screwed after 2 and a half years. Thanks a lot APPLE for taking good care of your costumers.

  • HT5509 Remove dark area in Guided access.

    Is it possible to switch off the darker area that emerges in Guided access?That is, the screen looks normal but still has the touch limitations.

    On iPhone 4s hold the circle button and the one on the top of the phone(as if you were taking a screenshot) down for 10-20 sec until the phone shuts off and then proceed to turn it back on. When the phone powers back on you'll still have to put in your code for the lock screen if that's enabled, but after that guided access will be turned off. Took me 45 minutes of pure frustration to figure this crap out being that I didn't even know I ha a GA password or that it would be any different than my lockscreen code. F*ckin rediculous I tell you!!!!!!
    But it does work, yw.
    OH!!! and when you hold the buttons down it will still give you the messege saying you have to triple-click and enter your code, ignore this and slam those buttons down anyway. They are a decoy. And furthermore, F*CK YOU APPLE. That is all.

    Original size of the photo is 4000px in witdh. I also tried to resize it to 800px with same result.
    Any help will be greatly appreciated!

    Did you take a backup in between taking the photos and deleting them ? If you did then try restoring to that backup (you will need to restore the whole iPad, you can't just do the Photos app) and they should be put back.
    Backups and restores : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4079
    When you create new albums directly on your iPad and 'copy' photos into them you are effectively just creating pointers to the orginal photos, you aren't creating copies of the photos - so if you then delete the original photo you will also be deleting all pointers to and therefore be removing it from all albums that you've copied it into (you should have got a warning when deleting the photo that that would happen).

  • Determine Light Area vs. Dark Area

    Here's another unusual one for you.  Is there a way to have Photoshop determine if the majority of a selected area is lighter color or darker.
    As an example, some photos have a fairly consistent brightness/darkness across the image, meaning there aren't any areas that are exceptionally dark or bright.  In other cases, a photo might be average brightness over most of the photo with areas of extreme darkness (basically black) so the "average" brightness is brought down quite a bit by that extra dark area even though the majority of the image isn't necessarily that dark.
    Is there any way to split these up to get an estimate of just how much of a selected area is extremely dark, how much is mid-toned, and how much is extremely bright?  Thanks!
    dgolberg

    Messing around with the code some, I noticed the math is a little out of order; so I had to flip 100/255 to 255/100 to get the right read-out.  Also, the "index < (33*(255/100))" is actually the lighter parts rather than the darker parts.  To get the darker parts I did "index > (66*(255/100))".
    All testing completed, I end up with the code below to check the percentage of luminosity in the light, mid, and dark tone ranges of the image:
    #target photoshop
    var hist = app.activeDocument.histogram;
    var count = 0;
    var dark = 0;
    var midtone = 0;
    var light = 0;
    for( var index = 0; index < 256; index++ ) {
        count = count + hist[ index ];
        if( index < (33*(255/100)) ) light = light + hist[ index ];
        if( index > (66*(255/100)) ) dark = dark + hist[ index ];
        if( index > (33*(255/100)) && index < (66*(255/100)) ) midtone = midtone + hist[ index ];
    var total = light + dark + midtone;
    if (total = count) {
        var darkPer = (dark/total)*100;
        var midPer = (midtone/total)*100;
        var lightPer = (light/total)*100;
        var totalPer = darkPer + lightPer + midPer;
        alert("Dark: " +darkPer+"\rMidtone: "+midPer+"\rLight: "+lightPer+"\rTotal Percent: "+totalPer);
        alert("Pixels in selection: " + count + "\rPixels below 33 lum: " + dark + "\rPixels between 33 & 66 lum: " + midtone + "\rPixels above 66 lum: " + light +"\rPercent below 33 lum: " + ( dark/ count ) * 100);
    else {
        alert("Some pixels are unaccounted for!");
    Figured I'd post my findings in case anyone else should need to do something similar.  But now I should be able to extract what I need from the results and make my adjustments accordingly (I just hope my theory works out, otherwise there will likely be another thread for another method in the near future, lol).  Thanks again for the help guys!
