Dark areas in photos looks different in Loupe and Develope

First let me say that I´ve created a similar thread in lightroomforums.net.
Let me also add that I´ve made extensive research on the web and also read this post: Why does the color and or tone of my image change after import?
This is my current setup.
I run lightroom 5.6, OSX 10.10.
I have been shooting with a 7D or a EOS M in RAW, Adobe RGB With picture style set to standard and no JPG´s.
I have imported my photos as DNG´s with no develop settings applied and build previews set to 1:1 (I have tried different settings here).
I have my Catalog Settings / Preview Cache set to 2880 pixels, quality: High (I have also tried different settings here) (I have a very big screen)
Now to my problem.
Now when I review my photos in 1:1 (or any other size) the dark areas looks good in develop module but when i go back to Loupe the dark areas have a slightly brighter, less contrast look.
This problem only occurs in the darkest parts and does not effect the rest of the image. The overall picture looks the same except for the very darkest parts.
I have tried different monitor calibration settings but the issue persists.
I have tried to create a new catalog, import some new shots but with no difference.
I have also done the same but instead of import to DNG´s I have copied the CR2´s, no difference.
I have tried to optimized the catalog and I have also "Update DNG previews and metadata", no difference.
When "edit file in photoshop CC" the version of the photo that opens in photoshop is the "Loupe" view.
This only happens with RAW/DNG files and not with TIFF or JPG.
Here is a picture that in my case looks very bad in Loupe view but significantly better in Develop View: Dropbox - IMG_3662.dng
I will also try to post two screendumps at 2:1 from the the two views. The picture with more darks in it is the screendump from the develop module and the less dark is from the loupe view.
Why is this occurring? How can I stop it?
Any help is highly appreciated.
UPDATE:
I have taken 4 new shots with the same setup as described above.
But with different color settings and picture styles.
Adobe RGB - Standard
Adobe RGB - Neutral
sRGB - Standard
sRGB - Neutral
With the same results. Dark areas look darker in Develope module.

  • In Lightroom CC images look different in Library and Develop modules. After output, images do not appear as they do in Develop.

    As above.

Mac OS X 10.9.5 has a color management bug that can lead to colors appearing different in Develop and Library: Jao's photo blog: Serious color management bug in Mac OS 10.9 "Mavericks" . See also: Jao's photo blog: Further quantification of the Mavericks color management problem and Jao's photo blog: Color management in Safari is broken in Mavericks too. Sorry for all the links to my blog, but this bug really annoys me and it bugs me that it hasn't been fixed all these months that Mavericks has been out. This can lead to color shifts especially in the deep tones. You can sometimes work around it by turning on soft proofing and proofing to adobeRGB or sRGB. Adobe could fix this but they haven't so far. Apple could fix it too, but they haven't until now. They fixed some code that lead to Aperture working correctly but Lightroom still has the problem.

  • Pdf color looks different in preview and acrobat?

I notice that the colors in various PDF files I have look different in Preview and in Acrobat. Is there some weird color profile issue?
To be specific, I can create a PDF file in various ways, of a slide deck I originally created using Keynote. It has various different color blocks in the slides. In particular some acid green colors look very different depending on whether I open the PDF in Acrobat or in Preview.
Preview shows the colors as they were in the original keynote application. But Acrobat shows them far more muted.
I learned from another post that if I create the PDF by first saving to postscript and then creating the PDF using Acrobat, the issue seems to go away. However this is very inconvenient.
In short, it seems as though there is some peculiar difference between the way Preview and Keynote (and probably Pages ) handle color and the way Acrobat handles color.
Is there some way to fix this using some setting in one of the programs?
By the way, this is not a new problem. I noticed it with previous OS's as well as previous versions of Keynote. I am currently using the latest version of everything.

Same problem here. I was printing a PDF that my designer had sent me. Before I have always used Acrobat, but I've started using Preview in Leopard since it's faster and more powerful than before. But the colors were seriously wrong, often reversed completely. I believe this file was originally created in Illustrator.

    On your iPhone ..
    Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
Then tap Settings > General > Date & Time
    Switch:  Set Automatically ON
No data is lost due to a reset.

  • Updated to LR 5.4, images now importing extremely slow. After importing and rendering images are still very slow to go through and develop. No issues in LR 5.3 which was very fast.

After importing and rendering images are still very slow to go through and develop. No issues in LR 5.3 which was very fast. Canon,Nikon, Leica and Fuji files all rendering slow. iMac 2.9 ghz 16gb RAM OSX 10.8.5. Catalogs and images are kept on external drives. Drives running fine. Really need a fix on this since I'm norally imported and processing at least 4,000 images per LR Catalog. Is there way to revert back to 5.3? I can't use 5.4 is its current state. Thanks.

Download LR 5.3 and install it
By the way, lots of people have this complaint about LR 5.4, and the advice I give is to use LR 5.3 unless you need one of the new camera models supported by LR 5.4

  • Photos look different (bad) when placed in InDesign CS4

I'm having a problem in that my photos look bad when viewed in InDesign. I labor on my photos until they're looking perfect in Photoshop -- with just the right color balance and tonalities -- but when I place them in ID, they look much darker and redder, or oversaturated. Then I look at them again in Photoshop, and they look fine. What gives? Which program is showing the real state of the photo? Btw, the photos are using the same color profile in both programs and the monitor is unchanged b/w viewings.
I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and what I can do about this? It makes me very nervous to see my photos looking so bad in InDesign, where I prepare my layouts for offset printing. Will they print as I see them in Photoshop or will they print as I see them in InDesign (which would be dreadful)? At this point I'm hesitant to make further adjustments and hoping it's the Photoshop view that's correct.
But why is this happening in the first place? Is there some setting I should be fixing? Or is there a color issue or incompatiblity b/w Photoshop and InDesign that I'm unaware of?
I'm using ID and Photoshop CS4 on Mac OSX 10.4.11
Hope someone out there can help me with this issue.
    Thanks in advance!
    Scarlett

There's a discrepancy in the way Photoshop and ID display images on the screen. I wasn't aware of this before.
If your display performance is set at High Quality there's no significant difference in the way color is displayed between PS and ID. The screen capture linked below shows a CMYK file with no profile assigned, side by side in ID and PS. The ID file has no profile assigned and the CMYK Working Spaces are the same for both programs:
    http://www.zenodesign.com/scripts/IDPS.png
You can check the RGB values of the screen capture in Photoshop and there is virtually no difference—I could only find an occasional 1 gray level in 1 channel shift.
If you are seeing a color change with a High Quality display setting then chances are you have a color management issue.
Syncing your Color Settings doesn't guarantee matching color between the programs because you are just syncing the program's Working Spaces, and they don't necessarily color manage the documents (assigned profiles override the Working Space). If you are assigning profiles in PS, the assigned profiles need to match your ID doc's assigned profile (which could be different then the ID Working Space)

  • Photos look different in Photoshop than when viewed with Picture Viewer

I am running Windows XP, using Photoshop CS2, with a Samsung SyncMaster LCD monitor. I have recently noticed that my picures look different when viewing with Picture Viewer than when the same picture is opened in Photoshop. The photoshop version is much lighter while the pic viewer version is darker. I want to make sure of what I'm sending to my online printers. Do I have color setting wrong? My color setting in Photoshop are: sRGB IEC61966-2.1, U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2, Dot Gain 20%, and Dot Gain 20%. And preserved embedded profiles for RGB, CMYK, and Gray. Is the problem with calibrating my monitor, and if so, do you know of any free calibration software? I'm on a budget.
    I appreciate any help. Thanks.

Well, it surely is a problem with your monitor settings, but, forgive me for saying this, mentioning "sending stuff to the printers" and then asking for free calibration software is a bit naive. If Adobe Gamma, the settings in PS itself and the color calibration in Windows don't cut it, then your system is seriously bent in terms of color and some other steps are required first.
    a) reset your monitor to its default color temperature and brightness
    b) get rid of any color tweaking your graphics card may introduce
With a clean slate, create a color reference image (pure colors, grayscale gradient) with all color calibration turned off and see how it looks at the system level and in PS. Now you can begin to adjust settings everywhere and re-enable color profiles until the results match in sRGB space.
The rest is pretty much unpredictable. Unless you gain access to the exact color profiles of the target device (the printer) and your monitor is properly hardware calibrated, there will always be minute variations. The only thing you can do is to solely rely on your visually aligned sRGB setup and have all color profile adjustments and color space conversions done at your printer. However, even that's assuming you do not wander too far off the default values and the sRGB is indeed "intact".

  • Why are my photos i receive from iphoto and aperture such poor quality? On my iMac, they look fine, but when i get the pictures, they are awful. The color looks like there's a gray fog on them, and they're not focused well.

I use 2 great cameras, download them to iphoto, and now trying aperture. I edit the photos, they look fine, order pictures, and they are terrible! Looks like there's a gray haze on them, their dark, color is awful. Please help me out here!

    What service are you using?
What is the color space of the image? If it is AdobeRGB, try using sRGB.

  • Photos look different in Light room vs. PS2 or any other photo software

Using LR2,PS2 and ACDSee8.0 on windows xp pro. I have no trouble exporting or importing photos to LR. My problem is the photos have a different tone or color in light room. When I make changes and export to say photoshop, its as if no changes were transferred to Photoshop. Best way I can describe is: Nature photo looks like evening light in LR and exported to PS2 looks like midday original light. Any Ideas?

Recalibrate your display. This is the clear symptom of a bad monitor profile (or of an incorrectly setup Photoshop but that is more rare.)

  • Fonts that are the same look different why?

These 2 images (the copy text within the image) are the same in every way, yet when saved as .jpg look different. Why does this happen?
I have tried saving at 100% instead of the 60%, and this helps make them a bit clearer, but still not as crisp as the image beside it.  Please help.  Thanks
It is always the left side images that are blurrier as well...what is up with that  lol  See my page
    http://www.partsconnexion.com/t/eblast/bbb/bb.html

It's rather fine text, and when you save it as an image, it's alignment to the "pixel grid" may differ (from the same type/size text in similar images) by a fraction of a pixel.
Fonts have a built-in parameter called "hinting" which helps ensure that varying proximity to the pixel grid doesn't distort the glyphs of live type while they're displayed on-screen. It's a scientifically grizzly little property that dictates which portions of a glyph are always black, versus the portions that are subject to "anti-aliasing." When you rasterize the text as you have, it loses its hinting and becomes subject to "accident" in terms of pixel grid alignment, anti-aliasing, and subsequent perceptual rendering on-screen.
Considering the above, rasterizing text is somewhat of a crap-shoot and should be avoided. Your layouts could be composed with live text; and should be. Methods might differ depending on whether the end-product is an "email blast" or something that's always and only ever rendered in a browser.

  • Why are my photos arranged differently on my ipad to my computer

why are the photos on my ipad album in a different order to that on my computer?

What version of iOS is your iPad on ? From here :
If you are not using iPhoto or Aperture on Mac OS X, and if your device is using the latest software, it sorts photos in ascending order by the Date Modified.
iOS 4 sorts photos by the Date Taken tag of the photos. iOS 3.1.3 and earlier sort photos alphanumerically by the photos' file names.
So if you want them in a different order, depending upon your iOS version you will either need to modify the 'date modified', 'date taken' or their filenames

  • My Muse page looks different on Firefox and Chrome - both are the latest versions

On Firefox, my pre-loader wants to load each time it encounters an Edge Animate on my scroll page. Page anchors are slightly changed in Firefox and this messes up my scroll, opacity and Ege Animate triggers.
I'm not sure if this is relevant but I also receive this error message in my browser immediately after exporting to HTML - http://www.broadcastgems.com/mediastreamer5/Muse_js_Error.jpg
    Here's my Muse Webpage - http://www.broadcastgems.com/MoGraphIntensity_ShapesText_PreLoad/
Lastly, I can't get my Form on the said page to work - on both Chrome and FIrefox. I can fill in the boxes but clicking 'Send' doesn't seem to do anything. Also, the text column for "Message" is ridiculously narrow - only 2-3 words long and I can't seem to change this. Visually it looks long but once I start typing it wordwraps after only 2-3 words. I'm using the built-in Form widget that comes with Muse.BTW, the form is right at the bottom of the page/URL I provided in the previous para - you can get there via the menu button, Inquiry.
    Thanks for any assistance
    - Roland

Hi Aish, here's the screen recording I made http://www.broadcastgems.com/mediastreamer5/Muse_Browser_Issue_Jan29_2014_01.zip
Notice how Firefox initiates the Muse pre-loader each time it reaches an Edge Animate object AND how the layout looks different when I use the menu buttons to access page anchors. Unfortunately, I forgot to record the form's Message Text Field, to show how narrow the column is. Any idea on how to fix/enlarge the column for this?
BTW, I just received a form submission that I made a while back - like half an hour ago.
    Cheers

  • Footage Looks Different in SpeedGrade and when rendered

    Hello
I’m having some problems figuring out what my file actually look like.
Is there still a QuickTime bug that cause QuickTime to show a gamma-shifted or otherwise-screwy image?
    5dMkII h.264 .mov file
The same file in QuickTime and VLC looks different. VLC version is darker and redder.
That file in SG looks even darker, and slightly redder.
Rendered out from SpeedGrade to ProRes422 (Automatic Color Adjustment switch on in SG) looks close to SpeedGrade display, but a few points redder and a touch darker.
Rendered out from SpeedGrade to ProRes422 (Automatic Color Adjustment switch off in SG) much lighter and paler than SpeedGrade display.
    Same results with ProRes444.
    Why do these look different?
    Latest MacPro Tower
    Latest OS X
    64GB RAM
    AMD FirePro D700 6144 MB
2x LaCie 321 monitors, calibrated with Spyder3 Elite
QuickTime Pro 7 or QuickTime Player bundled with OS
All files viewed on the same monitor
Thanks in advance for any help.

    In general, it depends.
You can't be responsible for every other computer & user in the world ... even though at times they'll try and make you so. The best anyone can do is run a calibrated "shop" and know you're delivering good technical content. Test it on other calibrated systems, and over broadcast monitors if such are available somewhere you know. For clients with specific needs, TEST. Send a test over and have them check it ... for most TV use this is crucial. For say adds on movie theatre screens between shows, arrange to take a sample over before they "open" for the day and have it played on their equipment onto the screen ... see what it looks like, adjust & retest as necessary.
For web use ... that's a total crapshoot off the mark.Best you can do is again, see that your system is as accurately calibrated as you can. Set the preferences for video players on your machine to use your system's calibration rather than their internal, which will ALWAYS do something odd to the signals. But not only odd ... unpredictable computer to computer. If your system is fully calibrated, your work over the web will hopefully average out pretty decent.
For web-delivery clients, still ... do initial testing to see that they are happy with the results you give them. If on their computer they want it bluer, and ... you know that means it's gonna really be BLUE on many machines ... perhaps showing them on a laptop that it does look good as-is on another system or some sort of client education moment may need to happen. I've heard plenty of complaints that the client demanded someone deliver something too dark ... and then complained back at them because they got comments from others that the material was too dark. Love that, eh? Client demanded they change it darker even though told it would be too dark for most computers ... then groused at them that it was too dark. Right. Oh frabjous joy.
Over in the video lounge here and on a couple other sites ... the threads on Stupid Client Demands have at times been a riot and at times something to near cry over. As a 30+ year stills portrait photographer, we've had the same thing at times from clients ... a demand to just plain print their images GREEN or something. Most of which we've complied with, some we ... didn't. What an interesting variety of brains and eyes there are about the planet ...
My experience is that just doing the best I can, it looks pretty darn good on my client's tv's and computers. Some go one way or the other a bit, but in general, it works fine. And check if you've got a setting in either system controls or the Qt & VLC controls for system-managed color.

  • Quicktime video looks different in Firefox and Safari, is there a fix?

My full problem is described in this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4451761
but to keep it simple, my immediate issue is that Safari and Firefox are displaying my video differently. Firefox appears darker and Safari appears brighter. With my monitor set to a gamma of 1.8 (default for OS X) Firefox looks perfect and Safari looks washed out, and with my monitor set to 2.2 (Windows default and all-together better looking) Firefox is too dark and Safari is perfect.
All I want to know is WHY they look different and how to fix this.

Thanks for your response. While this may work with audio and video originating from your own computer it doesn't seem to effect audio and video viewed from the Firefox 5.01 browser which uses a QuickTime plugin. Audio and Video viewed from Safari and Firefox 3.6.19 work fine which leads me to believe the QT plugin and Firefox 5 browser are not working correctly.
