Dark clips after reinstall of FCP 7

I wonder if anyone can help me with my problem.
Since the only program I´m using in FCS 3 is FCP 7 I decided to remove everything else and just reinstall FCP 7 on my mac mini i5 2012.with Mavericks
I Used FCP remover to delete everything and after that I did a custom install of FCP7 and I did update the program via Program update to 7.03.
When everything was done I used Preference Manager to delete FCP preference and used my "backup prefs"
The problem is that now every clip is very dark both on the the timeline and canvas and viewer.
It´s like every clip is underexposed by 2-3 stops.
I just don´t understand what has happened.
The program worked fine before reinstall and it is the same computer and screen and now the clips are dark
It´s only the clips that are dark the program itself is OK
Does anyone have a clue?
Any help would be much appreciated

Ps I tested to change the gamma from 2.2 to 1.8 in user prefs in FCP but that did not change anything .DS

The problem came from using Pref-man from my old install from Snow Leopard.
I moved FCP 3 from my old computer to my new with Pref-manager and it seems to have worked up until I did a clean install on
Mavericks.
I did a test with a new clean install and did not use Pref.man and only adjusted the gamma on playback as you suggested and it worked.
I have now made a new backup with Pref-man and called it Mavericks and it works.

Sped up clip after capture in FCP 6.0

Everything I capture in FCP 6.0 from my JVC GRD 850 is sped up. I'm using OS X.4.11 All of my settings seem to be OK. Any idea what's going on?

It's not because of incorrect settings then. Next thing to try:
Deleting FCP Preferences:
Open a Finder window. Set the view mode to columns:
Click the house icon that has your name next to it.
Click the folder "Library" in the next column.
Find and click the folder "Preferences" in the next column.
Find and click the folder "Final Cut Pro User Data" in the next column.
Move the files "Final Cut Pro 6.0 Prefs", "Final Cut Pro Obj Cache" and "Final Cut Pro Prof Cache" to the Trash and empty it.
When you have a stable set of preference files, download [Preference Manager|http://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm] to back them up. If you have further problems, the backup can be recalled and you can continue working.

Capture problem after upgrading to FCP 7

I recently upgraded to FCP 7. And now I cannot capture a clip of longer than 20 or 30 seconds without FCP signaling a timecode break.
I am running OS X 10.6.4 and have tried capturing to different drives on my system. But this doesn't only happen when capturing. I hook up a camera via firewire to my computer and then play an HDV tape. I am using a tape I previously captured a few weeks ago, and so I know there are no glitches or problems with the tape.
When I play the tape, it freezes up every 20 or 30 seconds, for a couple of seconds, as the system would do if there was a timecode break. But there's no timecode break, the tape is playing perfectly through the camera, it's only FCP that is "seeing" a timecode break and stuttering the picture for a few moments. If I am trying to capture, it breaks and starts a new file as if the timecode had stopped.
Any ideas?
Should I uninstall and reinstall completely? Or...? Cannot figure out why FCP 7 can't play video smoothly, when not even capturing. (Just to be clear, when playing back something on the timeline from a previous project, it plays perfectly smoothly -- it's only when playing the camera through the firewire that it acts like there are dropouts every 20 seconds or so -- maybe my firewire cable is bad, going to get another one today).

Yes, thanks. This is resolved. I used Jon Chappell's uninstall, then reinstalled (only FCP 7). I still had the problem after doing that...however, when I got up on Saturday and started playing with it -- suddenly everything worked fine!
So I don't know why after the uninstall/reinstall/reboot/etc. it wasn't working on Friday. But as of Saturday, the FCP gods smiled on me and there was a spontaneous self cure! So thanks to all for the advice. Maybe the reinstall did it but for some reason didn't take effect immediately??
Main thing is that all is well. Thanks!

Only one angle is playing in multi clip sent back to FCP from Color

2 camera Multiclip edited and rendered in FCP 6, sent to color, played ok after color adjustment.
Rendered in color, and sent back to FCP; second angle in the clip is blank (black).
tried different settings in color prior to sending, same result.
The multi clip plays ok in FCP prior to sending to color, and plays ok in color prior to sending to FCP.
Any idea what is being missed here to make second camera show?

The fix you can try is to Media Manage the project exporting the active Multiclip selection as independent. With that, you might even be able to create a new COLOR prj and import color corrections, so not much repeated labour.

Ting, you are probably looking in the wrong place. Waves filters are not installed in the regular location for FCP plugins. They'll be in somewhere like /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins ... also likely there is a dedicated Application Support folder for them too. My recommendation to you is to download and install Digital Rebellions FCS Maintenance Pack. To start with you can just use the 15 day free demo ... launch the Plugin Manager and hopefully you can use it to disable this pesky plugin without having to search the depths of your systems for the offending article. Once you've verified that its all fixed and working then you might want to explore the rest of the tools in the pack and seriously consider buying a full license. It's a great app by a great developer ... these folks need to be supported.

Can't access old ver. 9, 11 & 13 clips after Windows upgrade

In Sept. 2014 I downloaded PE 13 from B&H, worked fine and was able to access old PE9 & PE11 clips. In Dec. 2014 had problems with Wind. 7 Home Ed. and had to upgrade to 8.1 (decided on Pro). Installed 8.1 Pro end of Dec. 2014 and bought PE 13 DVD from B&H to reinstall after I backed up my hard drive. Problem after install of 8/1 Pro and installing PE13 from DVD I can't access and restore old clips from 9, 11 & 13. Tried everything I can think of....any suggestions PLEASE!

With the old computer system, you have Premiere Elements 9, 11, and 13 projects. And, you import media into each and see thumbnails for each of your imports in the project media area of the program (in version 11 and 13, called Project Assets). CORRECT! Please as we go forward I have the PE 13 that was downloaded from B&H and worked perfectly with my previous assets in PE 9 & 11.
When you go to open a project in one of these programs and go to the project media area, do the source media thumbnails still show as before with image in the thumbnail? Or does the thumbnail have a display of circular arrows? If the present as before, can you drag the file from the project media area to the Timeline? If you cannot, it that the problem? NO! (First info is when I set up my new PE 13 after copying all data to a 1T desk drive and loaded Windows 8.1 Pro to replace my Windows 7 Home Edition, I set up the PE 13 and used 64 bit as suggested.) NOW...When I locate my previous Project Assets on the 1T drive they show as "red blocks" with a play arrow in them where previously were thumbnails, but I can't retrieve them. As such there is nothing to add to the timeline. Last night I added to the NEW PE 13 a 22 min program I'm working on. I have all those assets, thumbnails and everything is working as wonderfully as it did in 9, 11 and downloaded 13.
Now in response to a previous question you asked:

When you did the switch from Windows 7 Home to Windows 8.1, did you go 64 bit to 64 bit or 32 bit to 64 bit in operating system? Help me with a way to determine what the bit was on 9 & 11!
Were two separate computers involved or did you manage to change the operating all on one computer? All on one Computer
The major focus for me right now is to make sure I know what file triggers the ".....not have the required compressoer/decompressor (codec)"? And to know that
you are in the Premiere Elements 13 Editor and not the Organizer 13 workspace. Help me understand!!!! I know the difference between "Add Media", "Project Assets", "Organizer", "Editor" and "Workspace". But "Project Assets" and "Workspace" are part of "Editor", so I don't understand your question.

Slower After Reinstall

So I was having some problems with my iMovie exporting, so I decided to reinstall my entire MBP. After reinstalling I got all my software back onto the system, as well as fully updated. It's smoking fast again and I'm enjoying the speed boost. However, whenever I use iMovie or Audacity, it's choppy to control. Almost to the point that it's unusable.
For instance, before I reinstalled, I could slide my cursor left and right in a 5 second segment of a clip on iMovie and it would play seamlessly. Now it's choppy when it plays. So essentially if I'm seeking a specific spot, I have to wait a few seconds for the cursor to show up on the spot, then play the clip. I can't just slide my cursor to give me a quick play of the video.
With Audacity, when I'm recording the progress bar stalls and skips forward. While before reinstall, it was seamless.
Please help!! This is unbearable! >_<

Any program that requires some power output seems to be limited. Going from work to opening menus, everything seems to run slower.
In Photoshop CS4, if I draw a line, it has trouble keeping up with the cursor. Almost a .5 second lag.
In iMovie if I'm working with a clip, I used to be able to run the cursor over it to preview a clip, now I have to leave the cursor in a spot, give it a second to position the play bar, then I am forced to play the clip, rather than just slide my cursor to preview the clip.
In Audacity, when recording, the progress bar can't even keep up with the recording process.
Everything that requires some power, seems to be sluggish since the reinstall.

Yes, someone stole my original apple id in 2009. Now i bought another iphone in late 2012 , Created another apple id due to Apple not being able to help me access my original apple id. Which now since 2 months ago someone or company, or bank stole my second apple id. My iphone 4s with Sprint has no celluar connection supossedly due to no internet that is what sprint said but I looked it up on apple and it stated that there is a cellluar block on my iphone4s.
So I guess I will have to go in person to Sprint so they can explain that to me and why I was lied to on the phone earlier. Back to my 2nd stolen apple id that I registered my macbook,airport express router, and iphone4s and apple TV. So who ever stole this apple id obviously took over all my mac products I had registered to it. Enough about that back to trying to use time machine....Everytime i do, my macbook just starts acting all screwed up. I bought a WD external drive for Mac but I believe someone must have claimed it too. Since there is 75gb on it that I can't access. Kind of like my Macbook stating I can't save or have access to the Root . That is another thing after reinstalling snow lepoard which works great until I update it. Which is a problem because everytime I update it to 10.6.8 All the permissions are changed the graphics look horrible and I get redirected so bad its not funny. The email account is a joke. Also I notice my stationary for email is in Spanish not sure why and on Iworks the document samples are also in spanish. Now I dont speak any other language except ENGLISH AND HAVE LIVED IN UNITEDSTATES MY ENTIRE LIFE. But my internet provider Fibrant which swears they are local shows it is in the UK also when i try to access my email for that account it states it is not safe , certificate is expired and someone might be trying to impersonate my server. Needless to say it is getting old. I had this same problem with Timewarner and Att except att would just remove my ethernet driver then laugh when i would call and ask what the problem was. Then later I find out when I had DSL that somehow the phone number they had listed was change to being a digit off from my DSL account which again they laughed and thought it was funny. Enough about that. I need to know how to get access to my Apple id. I gave up on the first one but the second one I did have access to until I registered all my apple products. What is up with every thing I have with a usb port being corrupt. I have also notice anywhere in town where I live my phone is English until I come home it is arabic,hebrew , spanish any language except English. Shouldn't I be safer in my home??????????????? But I am not I am safer in town or anywhere but my home. EVerything states international in my home and this has been going on since 2009.....No one can tell me why. My power from Duke reads that OTHER Is costing me the most $$ every month what ????? This is a joke. But yet no one can tell me why or how to fix the problem. I try to foward it to Spam @ me but it hasn't helped.My iphone can only connect to the internet with wifi. Sprint swears that there is not a block but according to apple there is.

So it is upsetting that I can't use a printer but something keeps turning all my electronics into printers. If anyone knows how to fix this problem that would be great or to stop all this international stuff going on in my home that would be wonderful. I try to buy brand new pcs but soon as I start them up something had already taken over. This is with nothing electronic in my home on. Turn everything that a power switch off or unplugged it. Still I lost rights and access to anything in my home. Now if I am away from my home and try to use one of my laptops they look completely different and almost usable. Unfortunately I can't afford to move. I thought about it but I am still in bankruptcy and don't have the money. In the last 4 years I have not been able to reinstall in backups that I have created. Not sure why oh wait it states I have no rights to do that. My macbook I lost access to a week after I bought it and connected my iphone too. You don't know how many times I wish I had never backed my iphone 4s to my Macbook. Right after I could not log into it. Even used the disk to reset the password nope still couldn't log into it. Try to type the formula for resetting the password and nope it didn't work either.
Any suggestions would be appreciated---Need to gain access to my apple Id that would be a great start

How do I add a video clip after my music?

Its sort of a wierd question but basically to me imovie09 is a bust since i cant really see a real timeline to edit my project. But what im trying to do is after i edited my video and the song i have ends i want to add another clip after the song but without the song playing. Everytime i add a clip it either goes to the top of my project or just adds it to the song. basically what im tryign to ask is, how do i add a clip after a song?

if you ADD audio/music/voice over to a project, there are TWO options.
#1:
you drag it into the (grey) background of your Project - and it becomes a background track with its own 'behaviour': it will try to background the WHOLE Project as much as possible. as long there's audio left, any added video/still will lengthen the audio.
#2:
drag audio ONTO a clip .... it gets connected PLUS it offers the usual options any clip offers; copy/pasting, cutting, fading, effects. here, I added a fade and the last video-clip is audio-less.

Troubleshooting after reinstalling the software that came with my macbook

Hi, I'm a new user of mac products and my macbook crashed refusing to start up (it would just turn on and keep loading till froze).
I followed exactly the steps "Problem meet solution" in the little manual and had to use the Mac OS X Install Disk 1.
The disk utility repaired the HD volume (error found: incorrect block count for file flatfile.db - should have been 708 instead of 354), then still couldn't start up on HD. Did it all over again, repaired HD again (this time error: incorrect block count for file .store.db - should have been 5202 instead of 2601), but this time went further selecting "continue" and reinstalling Mac OS X from the discs that came with my macbook. Reinstalled - successfully finally - by chosing the option "previous settings archived in new file".
The only problem i had was at login ... it would not recognize my user password... which was the same one since i first turn on my new bought macbook. Anyways, i used again the disc 1, selected change my password and this time i managed to sign in with the new one (same old user).
1)NOW, question: do i have to re-update my software? Because before I had Mac OS X 10.5.2 (i always kept my computer up to date) and now, after reinstalling the software I have Mac OS X 10.5
or i should be able to reactivate them from the Previous Systems file (in this case how do i do that?
2) Can't figure still out my master password that unlocks the file vault plus i can't activate again the root admin user from Directory Utility ... i click it but doesn't do anything. Why is this and how can be sorted out?

1) yes, i will take all the updates. and ok, i won't touch the previous systems file
2) in regards to master password ... i tried all the passwords i ever used. not sure it's just "forgetting". Reason: as I mentioned before: The only problem i had after reinstalling the software was at login ... it would not recognize my user password... (and I add, nor the master password) which was the same one since i first turn on my new bought macbook.
As i couldn't sign in, used again the disc 1 to reset my administrator password and it did save but with the notice that i should "use the keychain access to reset the password for users login" .This time i managed to sign in with the new one (same old user). Then I went to the keychain clicked login and changed the password for keychain login. Did i do good? do I have to change something else. please let me know as don't really know.... i just follow help advice.
3)in regards to root password ... i had it also before ... using help on "security" issue ... as i connect to different networks ... i read that one could help ... please understand that i'm learning as i go, as this time i don't have someone else to do those things for me. so why doesn't it activate anymore? and why would it be better not to activate it?
4)speaking of learning, from my initial post where i posted the errors that my disk utility found ... what do u think caused my computer to freeze? i was browsing on safari facebook as well as I had both yahoo messenger and skype opened... first the messenger froze, then crushed, then i restarted it , then froze, then all the rest froze, without responding to force quit.
5) after reinstalling the software, i still have yahoo messenger and other applications.... is that safe to use now? they are still in my applications
and last 6) did I do everything correct when my computer would not start up?

Dave: I did the Microsoft Update two days before this happened, and rebooted as required. I just created a new restore point and lauched Creative Cloud. Now I get the famous white screen:
It just sits and spins (been 10 minutes now).
Fortunately, I saved away this command (which I've had to use 4 or 5 times already):
del %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Adobe\OOBE\opm.db
Unfortunately now, I get this (even after closing the above window):
The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
So I killed everything that said "Adobe" in the task manager and this time, the command succeeded.
Fortunately, the current apps seem to still work. I can't seem to find the "Creative Cloud" app in the applications on my system, but I launched Photoshop CC, told it to look for updates, and got a list of the 5 prgorams that need updates in the Adobe Application manager:

The 10.8.3 update should have left your iLife apps intact - did you do a clean install, erasing your drive? If so, then you should be able to go to the Mac App Store and download the iLife apps using the Apple ID with which you registered your computer.

The question mark appears when your computer can't find any bootable volume to start. This can be because of two reasons:
1. Your computer has forgotten the startup device.
2. The hard drive is damaged.
First of all, turn off your computer and turn it on again holding the Option (Alt) key, so you will see all the bootable volumes on the display. Choose the OS X volume and set up OS X as normal. Finally, open System Preferences > Startup Disk, and choose your OS X volume
