Dark flickering desktop and anything on the laptop lid.

The lid on my 2007 MacBook Pro is loose and it doesn't stay bright. It moves slightly on its own and flickers gray when it does and the only way I can fix it is to manually adjust the lid until it brightens up again. Very frustrating! Any help out there?

This is usually a sign that:
1. Someone did not follow instructions putting it back together.
2. You have overworked the hinge by not paying attention to the built-in resistance when you push it back.
3. You bumped or dropped the machine in such a way the hinge got loose.
4. The graphics chip or cabling may be damaged from a surge or a bad power supply/brick.
Regardless, this requires an on sight diagnosis, unless you want to attach an external display to see if it is reproducible on the external display.
Know your video ports:

I've seen one other report like yours, and I think the issue is caused by a bug, but I don't know what triggers it.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Ihave a fairly new dell and am sick of it and windows want to switch to apple desktop and at least one laptop. any opinions

I am, frankly sick of clones and windows,these dells work but my god not as much as i work on them. its something i just take for granted 4 hrs use, hr of fix. I always liked apple and its os,should i get a desktop now or wait till july and get the new ones. also I and my wife who is computer braindead use the desktop my son and daughter both have dell desktops although my son does have an iphone. what desktop and what notebooks the airs look nice. any help appreciated thanks tim

I purchased a decent priced Mac Pro from eBay and then upgraded the graphics card and RAM. I also upgraded the CPU's, but that isn't something most casual computer users want to get into. RAM and video card was a no brainer on the Mac Pro.
I also scoured the local classifieds and found a nice iMac 17" 2ghz C2D. I bought some extra ram, and put Snow Leopard on it. Real great machine, works perfectly fine and runs anything I need it to do. Was a great price.
Or you can buy yourself a new iMac, you won't be disappointed. Looks great, has an awesome display, and is about as clutter free as possible. You can also run Windows via bootcamp if you need be.
My friend has a macbook air, real cook machine, but it suffers in t he performance area to keep it light weight. However, it does EVERYTHING he wants it to do.
I also run an eMac for internet browsing, word processing, and email. You can get them almost for free.

Have you tried setting it to synchronize with an internet clock...click the date in the lower right corner...change date and time settings...internet time. Also check the time zone.

I got a Mac and started buying music on it, and My PC has all of my whole Itunes library which is like 1000+. The grip that seperates the screen from the laptop lid is what I'm talking about... but basically I just noticed (not from my doing) that on a tiny section of the screen, you can see the grip not attached properly like the rest of the laptop is. Firefox locks up when I reopen the laptop lid.

Hello I'm having graphical anomalies (flickering etc.) with the following card / driver. 14.12 Msi r9280x Gaming Playing Crysis 3 / Battlefield 4 fow now I've used both the default graphics settings and also tried lowering the settings. Same result and I am getting a random flicker when in 2d mode while watching videos or browsing firefox. It is not a consistent flicker and happens randomly. IMac 21" late 09: Slow, screen flickering/tearing and odd behavior - the problem that puzzles everyone

PLEASE HELP!
My iMac 21" late -09, started acting a bit wierd a year ago. Things got worse rapidly, it got slower, the screen flickers/tears (see link below), short moments of lost internet connection, lost connection whit the keyboard (might be keyboard that is broken), almost overheats when gaming and odd behavior on some webbsites whit galleries and/or videos.
Let's begin whit the screen: it's not vertikal lines or major distortions, just a subtle horisontal line that "wanders" from bottom to topp and some lagging from time to time. Looks like this: http://cl.ly/3i2W2o3S1D2T
The wierd thing is that hi-res does not mean more "tearing". Yes the lagg and risk of tearing increases, but the connection seems to be: lots of movement=tearing. So a pixeld 240p video of people dancing can be way worse than a news debbate in1080p!?!
Lost connection whit internet and keyboard rarely happens and is probably due to something else, but thought that was good to have in mind.
Odd behavior: galleries ex: when browsing images on Facebook in fullscreen, the image sometimes jumps around in the beginning and when clicking on next the same picture might appear again or just nothing at all. When scrolling down overwiewing a gallery, the updating stops and you can't scroll down further. This problem appers mainly on FB, deviantart also acts a bit wierd but there is often small issues whit image sites. Doesn't help to switch browsers either!
Videos: Youtube is horrible to use, stops loading, dosen't start loading, erases everything loaded (grey bar disapears and reloads), refuse to switch ressolution and suddenly stops the video like it was done! "ehh.. wasn't this 2min long? Not anymore, now its 34sec!". Mainly a Youtube problem but many similar sites can be a bit problematic to use.
NO, it's not the HTML-5 problem or any standard flash issue and using a different browser dosen't help!
Worst is the fact that most of these errors are not constant! One day your watching youtube or mabey a movie in VLC, a bit laggy, but almost no problem. Next day **** brakes lose and after 2hours of struggling you are ready to stabb yourself in the face!
What i tried: Most easy buggfixes that might cause the above problems, updating most things, Switched from OS X SL to OS X ML, complete reinstall and some things i probably forgot by now. Then went to MacStore for repair, they didn't find anything wrong and said it worked fine after the standard diagnostic/repair program!?! Went home and everything was the same! Went a second time to MacStore, same result.
So I'v reinstalled a few times and it seems to improve the Mac. But 2-3weeks later every error is back, even if I barely installed or downloaded anything!?!
Any idea what this could be? Or is the graphic card broken and MacStore has a blind, inbred muppet as a technician?

No I didn't. The first time i explained the problem thoroughly and thought that they just couldn't miss such a visual error. I was wrong. The second time the technician wasn't there so i showed the above clip to the salesstaff and explained everything onceagain. Later the technician called me and we talked for 10min.
Btw, the problems always "manifests themselves", just varies between strenght and frequence.
But all other issues aside, what could cause the tearing of the screen as seen int the above clip?

Install one copy on Mac Desktop and another on Windows laptop?

The Lightroom 3 license is multi-platform (i.e. Windows & Mac) and permits the installation both a desktop and a laptop.
Can I install one copy on my iMac desktop and the other on my Windows laptop?
I've hit the problem already that this is not on CS4 (much to my annoyance) but it appears Lightroom may be different - can anyone confirm?

Yes you are correct the license is multi platform and can be on two computers. Only one in use at any point in time.
The catalogs created on one is compatable on the other platform.
There is no activate / deactivate function like Photoshop.

After closing the laptop lid and opening it again, the laptop won't wake up?

The only option to wake it back up is to reset it; moving my mouse won't work. Trying to lock it won't change anything. What should I do? What's going wrong?

Hi Sense no one has answered your message, I'll give it my best shot. Depending on what option you chose when you close the lid, will make a difference. If you have it set to shut down, then you will have to press the power button to turn your PC back on.

Desktop appearance problem: For no apparent reason my Mac running OSX 10.4.11 imposed a mesh-like pattern over the folders on my desktop and also across the top of the screen and down the right-hand side where I have the dock. How do I remove it?

For no apparent reason my Mac (2 GHz PowerPC G5) running 10.4.11 has put a mesh-like pattern over the folders on my desktop and also a band of the same pattern across the top of the screen and down the right-hand side over the dock. (See screen grabs below.)
It doesn't affect any operations but makes folder names and drop-down menus difficult to read through the pattern.
I'm not aware of changing any settings so suspect I must have clicked on something without noticing. How do I get rid of the overlaid pattern, please?

Depends which Macbook Pro, depends what cable you have. MBPs from 2010 onwards can transmit audio through their Displayport connectors if you have an HDMI input on your TV and an adaptor which also transmits audio. Not all Displayport-HDMI adaptors do this. If you're trying a VGA input on your TV, that will not carry audio.
If your MBP is older than 2010, you will need to use a separate audio cable to connect from your computer's 3.5" mini audio connector to the appropriate audio input on your TV.

Can you please try and restart your machine and then check ? If nothing happens , please navigate to Utilities> Adobe installers to find Creative cloud installer or go to Applications > Creative Cloud > Creative Cloud uninstaller and then uninstall the product from there .
once done with the uninstallation ,please browse to Creative.adobe.com and then reinstall the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop app .
