Dark outline of pixels around images in PDF

When saving a pdf from Illustrator,  close cropped PSD images have a dark edge of pixels in the final PDF. It looks like a black outline when viewed in Acrobat. I have since found if I flatten the transparency before saving as a PDF , it displays fine. Why is the PDF having problems with Illustrator’s use of transparency?

When you export your PDF in Adobe Illustrator then change these settings:
Adobe PDF Preset to High Quality Print
Standard to PDF /X-1a:2001
Now export your PDF, you will see that your problem is fixed, no need to say thanks to me.
Same problem show in Adobe InDesign too, here is video tutorial showing how can your export your pdf in InDesign:

• White outline around images in pdf

Ok I've searched google for help and have not found any tips. I'm using CS4. I'm creating a document in indesign. I've placed some psd files into the document. In photoshop they are an object with a transparent background.
Now they look fine when printing and when viewing in indesign. But when i output as a ps from indesign, then take it into distiller it creates a pdf with a white outline around the image. Why is this happening? See attachement. Outline is on the bottom, it's a really thin line.
I do file print, select adobe pdf 8.0 then i pick the postscript option, then hit print to save the pdf. I've tried changing from CMYK to leave unchanged for color options. Please help!!!

Try searching for the term stitching. That should give you plenty.
In short, what you're seeing is the result of your archaic workflow causing the transparency to be flattened. The preferred and recommended method for PDF creation is through direct export, maintaining all transparency in the document.

• Black outlines around images in pdfs from Indesign

I'm not sure if this is an Indesign problem or Acrobat. I have imported several photoshop files in which I have deleted the background around the figures. The background is transparent. When I make a pdf from Indesign, there is a black outline that appears, tracing the edge of the figures. Does anyone know what might cause this and how to fix. I have imported this kind of file many times with no problems.

Check if they're RGB in PS. I had this problem recently when exporting to PDF. It didn't show in ID file but showed in PDF. I converted to CMYK, relinked, and exported new PDF and the problem went away.

• Hairline white line around images in PDF for press

CS3, Windows XP
I searched the forum and didn't find this exact question, so..., I place PSD file in ID. When I export to PDF for the press run, I get a thin hairline white box around the photo. It only seems to happen when the placed image is over a gradient. It also only happens on PDF files for press run - either Press Quality or PDF/X-1a:2001. When I export to "Smallest File Size" it looks fine. I have the border of the image set to 0 and the color to None.
And it only seems to happen sometimes. A month or so ago I created a similar piece using different photos, but the same gradient background and it looked and printed fine.
Thoughts?

The stitching and a grey box was showing up on my press proofs. The printer suggested that I flatten the image before I send it to them.
Sometimes I see in on screen and sometimes I don't, but my printer says they see it every time and that it will show up on the proof. I've been trying several different PDF exporting options in ID. We are getting the proofs done correctly, but there's only one guy at my printer that can get the file corrected. I'm not sure exactly what he is doing, but one of the people I deal with suggested that he was opening the file in PS, flattening it again, and exporting to PDF, again.
He's the boss and not alway around, so I'm trying to figure out how I can get file exported correctly.
Thanks for your help.

• Gray box around images in PDF and when printing? Why?

Hi,
I'm using CS5 and I'm getting a gray box around any image embedded in my document.  The box comes if I click on it when a PDF and it prints around them.  I can't seem to figure this one out.  I'm not used to prepping files for print and I'm trying to send this out to someone who needs to print it.
It's CMYK.
I've tried to flatten transparency using both vector and rasterize.
I've made sure the images are embedded.
I can't figure this out!!
Please, help.
Thanks.

does this look like your problem?

• Indesign CS4 adds square boxes around images when exporting to PDF

When I export a brochure created in InDesign to PDF, for some reason the .pdf file (only the PDF - the InDesign version doesn't show these) shows faint squares around images/graphics that have shadow effects applied. These appear around photos, as well as graphic objects that have a solid colour background, for example an orange circle. Some suggested rasterizing images in Illustrator and that didn't help. Transparency doesn't seem to be at fault either. Would anyone have any idea what may be causing this and how to remedy the problem?
FYI, the PDF export pre-sets in InDesign are as follows (I only mention options that are checked, the rest are turned off):
COMPATIBILITY: Acrobat 5 (PDF 1.4)
GENERAL:
         HIGH QUALITY PRINT (modified)
         Export Layers:Visible & Printable Layers
COMPRESSION:
         COLOR IMAGES:
Bicubis Downsampling to 300 pixels per inch for images above 450 pixels per inch
         Compression: Automatic JPEG
         Image Quality: Maximum
      GRAYSCALE IMAGES:
Bicubis Downsampling to 300 pixels per inch for images above 450 pixels per inch
         Compression: Automatic JPEG
         Image Quality: Maximum
      MONOCHROME IMAGES:
Bicubis Downsampling to 1200 pixels per inch for images above 1800 pixels per inch
         Compression: Automatic JPEG
         Compression: CCITT Group 4
FYI - I use Mac OSX 10.5.8 and InDesign 6.0.3.
I have attached the PDF for your review.
With many thanks,
Alex

BTW, don't use OSX's preview to look at PDFs created by InDesign if they take advantage of high end features such as live transparency.
Preview simply isn't up to the task and you should be using Acrobat or Reader.

• Creating PDF from PowerPoint results in lines around images

I've researched this topic on the forums and have seen some related posts but none that directly hit the issue I'm having. Have a PP file with some images and when I create PDF, the resulting file shows random "outline" lines partially around some of the images.  These lines do not show up when printing.  They go away if I uncheck the "Smooth Images" box under Edit/Preferences/Page Display.  However, unchecking the box degrades the image quality and requires the viewer to make this change in his version of Reader.  This PDF will be viewed typically on a screen rather than via print and I can't rely on the user to do the Smooth Images change.  I have spent lots of hours trying various potential fixes (differing file types, etc.) but can't figure it out and haven't been able to find a solution anywhere on the web.  Anyone up for the challenge of helping me figure it out?

Any chance you can post a link to the file or PDF page?

• How can a 200 pixels/cm image result in a 118 pixels/inch PDF?

Hi all,
Just encountered a problem that is a bit puzzling me.
If you create a 1cm by 1cm image in Photoshop, with a resolution of 200 pixels/cm (= 508 pixels/inch), and you save this image to PDF, using for instance the PDF/X-1a presets or one of the Ghent PDF Workgroup PDF presets, the image will be downsampled to 118 pixels/inch (or 47 pixels/cm). This does not compute. When checking the PDF-settings, I would suspect the image would be downsampled to 118 pixels/cm (or appr. 300ppi), as you would believe from the PDF-settings, but not to 47pixels/cm or 118 pixels/inch.
Is seems to me that Photoshop is taking the value (the '118') for the downsampling, but without translating my pixels/cm to pixels/inch first (it just downsamples 200 pixels/cm to 118 pixels/inch), which doesn’t seem very correct to me.
This is a huge problem. If people would accidently use pixels/cm to set their image size, they will end up with a PDF that is not printable and will be rejected by most printing companies because of too low image resolution. I tried to do the same with Adobe Photoshop CS3, but the same problem.
Anyone that can help me try to understand the logic behind this? Below the downsamping settings that would make me believe that I would end up with a 118 pixels/cm image instead of 118ppi and some other screenshots to clarify the issue.
Original image resolution in Photoshop
Image resolution (or preflight error) after saving to PDF

Because it is only 118 ppi or 47pp/cm. Remember: the original image was 1cm wide and had a resolution of 200 pp/cm. The resulting PDF contains only 47 pixels for the entire width (the entire 1cm), so: 47pixels x 1cm or 2,54 inches = 47 pp/cm or 118 pixels/inch. It looks like there were really thrown away too many pixels during downsampling (calculation error in the PDF presets downsampling algorithm).
Actual number of pixels in the PDF (dimension: 1cm x 1cm):

• How do I remove random pixels around a product image on a white background? They only show up after I save an image.

I am taking photos for my website selling jewelry, and I use the magic wand tool and the paint bucket to remove the background. But when I save it, there will be shaded pixels around my product in the white background area that are only shown after my image is saved. Does it have to do with saving it as JPEG? Do I need to save it as something else?

No I don't use layers. I'm very new to using photoshop. It happens in other editors like microsoft paint. even if I use the eraser tool to remove the pixels in the white background around the the product, they show up after I save it as JPEG. I would just like to know what causes it and how to change it.

• Pixel perfect images view at PDF - possible?

I created a few jpg files. I'd like to have them as 1 PDF. The idea is to have pixel perfect view at any PC. The problem is that the view of jpg images at PDF always have kind of zoom, it's never crisp. Not even when viewed at 100%. On my PC it look pretty sharp at 137%...
Is it possible to solve this?
p.s. Jpg images are 150dpi. My monitor is 96ppi (not sure about that).

I think the answer is no. There are too many possibilities. I did create a PDF of a picture (I may repeat with text as you did) and then saved the picture back to a JPeg. I have then displayed the before (right) and after (left) at 100% along with the PDF version at 135% (about same size) in the figure below (my picture may not be perfect by any means) as clipped from the screen. I will try to repeat with text.
I repeated the same process with text (from a PDF that I saved as a jpeg and imported to Acrobat). The JPeg zoom this time is 66.7% and the images are 100% in the viewer.
The reason I have the before and after is to show that the basic JPeg has not changed (except for some white space) and it is basically a viewing issue. In the first set of photos, it would appear that the after JPeg was a bit lighter in appearance. For what it is worth, the 100% PDF view of the 2nd example is shown below:
Just to clarify, these were all done on AA9 with Win7 that is the installation on this machine. I do not expect much change on my AA XI installation.

• Grey pixelation around my lines?

hi, i did a drawing using the pen tool, and whenever i colour in a section using dark colours- there is grey pixelation around the line. heres an example at full zoom:

anyway i can remove this? i noticed it doesnt come up with black/dark grey colouring but does with navy/dark green etc

i am doing screen editing, is there any way to convert my image to RGB? im new to illustrator so i dont really understand the colour modes yet
edit: i found out how to change from cmyk to rgb but my black lines now turn light brown when i use these dark colours to fill.
overprint mode is off
edit 2: it seems i changed the colour myself at some point. going to fix it now.
thanks for the help and marked as answered

• TIFF images in PDF documents

Just looking for a short answer, no technical details needed: Is it possible to store TIFF images in PDF documents without losing information?
Thank you in advance,
k.

>On my own computer it seems I only have options to save it as jpg or zip internally.
That's correct. The PDF specification supports many more forms of
compression. Than this.
> Can't find any options to save it as TIFF internally.
That's correct. A PDF image is stored as a collection of pixels NOT as
an embedded graphic format.
The collection of pixels may be compressed according to one of many
compression schemes. There is JPEG (internally called DCTDecode) and
ZIP (internally called FlateDecode). FlateDecode is completely
lossless, so if what you are concerned about is loss of picture
quality, this is the one to use.
A ZIP compressed PDF is typically going to be about the same size as
the corresponding ZIP compressed TIFF.

• Black frame around image icon during Web Start start up

Hi,
Sometimes I can see black frame (16 pixels) around my own icon during resource files downloading. My icon resolution is 32*32 pixels.
It appears like Web Start assignes size of the icon to 64*64 pixels and all space around my 32*32 icon is filled by black colour.
Playing with the width and height parameters. As a result it did not help.

• Blurry / Pixelated R3D images in Premiere CC 2014

FYI, for anyone else (like me) who has experienced pixelation / blurry images when viewing certain R3D files on the timeline or in the source window in Premiere CC 2014: this issue can be solved by right clicking on the problem clip(s) in the timeline or in the project files panel, selecting "Source Settings," and clicking "Save to RMD." You'll see the image become fully sharp again immediately.
This blurriness happens even when the still and playback resolution settings are set to "Full" in the program and source windows, and it isn't fixed by adjusting sequence settings. It was still visible even after exporting to Quicktime files, which created a huge headache for us as we tried to figure out what we were doing wrong in our sequence or export settings. Turns out both of them were fine, it was just this "Save to RMD" glitch.
An Adobe staff member replied and said they will fix this in around a month: Red footage pixelated on Import into AE.

Update: Unfortunately it's not all good news.
Trying to render out to H.264 wiht Mercury CUDA still gives a crash rendering with the typically uninformative 'Unknown Error'. Software rendering does not, but it's very slow.
Miraizon Codec and the Premiere native Cineform also crash with 'unknown error'. However I can render out using Cineform Mov at 12bit using my registered copy of Cineform. Not fast, about 1/8 real time.

• How to add Images and PDFs in MDM iView

Hello!
We use SAP Portal as interfase to access SAP MDM repository tables. We use MDM Record Set and MDM Item Detail iViews to display and operate with main table content.
There is a field in the qualified table, which is the lookup to the Images table. And the other field is the lookup to the PDFs table. Both fields are qualifiers.
In the main table there is a field, which is the lookup to the qualified table. When we try to add values to this field using Item Detail iView, we get a window, where we can fill all values of the qualified table, except Image field and PDF field - they are disabled. So, can we add Images and PDFs to the table using Item Datail iView? Or what is the other way to add them?
Thanks,
