Dark Prints When Using CS3

have just begun using CS3 10.0.1 on an iMac (using 10.5.2) and am experiencing darker than normal prints.
My setup is as follows:
Color Settings In Photoshop:
RGB: Adobe RGB (1998 (but have now begun using ProPhoto RGB)
CMYK: US Web Coated (SWOP) v2
Gray: Gray Gamma 2.2
Spot: Dot Gain 20%
When printing, I have been using:
Photoshop Colour Management -
Document
Photoshop Manages Colours
A specific printer profile for the Epson paper I use ( downloaded the from Epson website)
Perceptual (Rendering Intent)
For the printer driver (for an Epson R800 printer) I have been selecting Off (No Colour Management) from the Colour Management Tab and I have been adjusting the Print Settings to the paper I have been using.
If there is a bug in CS3 that is causing the darker than normal prints, is there a workaround (such as printing images edited in CS3 in CS)?
Any assistance is appreciated!
Frank

I and some (many?) others have similar problems, for which I have two partial solutions.
To begin, I strongly suspect the printer is suspect. I had an R800 and now use an R1800. I have used the R1800 with Tiger and Leopard, both through several revisions up to the most recent (10.4.11, 10.5.2). I don't recall problems before CS3 (currently 10.0.1) With CS3, I cannot print satisfactorily using Epson printer profiles for glossy and luster paper. I can print to watercolor paper IF use a glossy profile. (It's OK to lie to a possible demented print system.) That said, here are two workarounds.
1) Let the printer manage colors. Heresy, I know. Works well for me with glossy or luster paper and any of 3 choices of printer control-- Epson Std, Epson Vivid, or Adobe 1998. Oddly enough, before I dod workaround #2 below, the Epson control for brightness didn't seem to have any effect. I bumped it up to 3. I've never twiddled the other controls in that panel.
2) This is tedious.
(a)Remove printer drivers using Epson's Uninstall options for your printer in BOTH the present and the preceding versions. Old driver software not removed has been suggested in this forum as a potential problem.
(b) Remove the printer entrie or entries via System Preferences--> Fax&Print, reset the printer system, and throw away any previously downloaded Epson printer software installers.
(c) Run Disk utility, do a safe boot, run disk utilities again. Reboot as normal.
(d) Download a fresh driver from EPson and install it.
(e) Remove PS CS3 preferences. Restart PS while holding down the option key to generate a fresh default preferences file. CAVEAT-- you will lose any custom preferences and any
non-default actions. I am recreating the defaults on the fly, and I was able to reinstall the actions, whose files wee still in place, by double-clicking on each in turn while PS was running.
The outcome? Well, I can now elect to let PS manage colors & turn off Printer color management. I get better prints on luster paper and on glossy paper. The matte printer profiles still flood low-key regions of an image with cyan and/or blue. I'm not done testing other paper surfaces yet.
Three final threads-- (i) paper -- I use Epson, Premier Art, and (!) yes, Staples professional brilliant gloss. Various profiles for these icc or not don't seem to make noticeable difference to my eyes. (Aside-- I don't really believe Epson and other printer makers actually manufacture their own paper, we're buy Epson-branded paper made by who knows whom.)
(ii) Other sometimes helpful sources of info include g ballard's site (Google it). John Nack's blog http://blogs.adobe.com/jnack/, and the Apple ColorSync email chat list.
Also search this forum for Epson, R800, R1800, and Leopard will produce a lot of text and some useful info.
(iii) I rebuilt a 10.4.11 system but saw the same bad results as with 10.5. To me this implicates a bad guy somewhee in the software stream up to and including printer memory.
Apologies for length. Maybe I should just use Marshall Oils like my grandfather did...

    If you are looking for a new printer, any wireless model will work with the AirPort Express.
    But, since you indicate that you have an iPad, you would want to make sure that the printer you choose is AirPrint compatible. This way, you will be able to print from your iPad....if you need that function.
    See this Apple support document for info on AirPrint and compatible models.

    the cyan color won't print when using our HP Pro 6500 Officejet printer.  Can I get help with this?

    This doesn't make sense. The printer is exhibiting behavior noticed when a network printer is connected to a laptop while the laptop is connected to a VPN. But in this case, neither the printer is connected on a network, not is the laptop connected to a VPN per se.
    Are you sure all the latest drivers for your laptop have been installed? That's pretty much the only thing I can think of right now.

  • How do i get my hp pavillion dm1 to print on my wireless printer when using t-mobile usb broadband

    how do i get my hp pavillion dm1 to print on my wireless printer when using t-obile usb external broadband

    Mama Shirley, sounds like you are looking for information on networking your printer. I have to unfortunately inform you that you are not going to likely be able to do that with a mobile hotspot (which appears to be your source of broadband). This is because that card provides your devices with a roaming IP address which is subject to change, because of this it cannot create a stable network for the printer to communicate across.
    My recommendation would be to purchase a router and connect the printer through that router. As a note you do NOT have to connect the router to broadband to create a network for your devices. It will simply provide you with an internal network for your devices.
    Let me know if this is the information you are looking for or if there is still more assistance I can offer.

  • Retro entires in HR Forms are not printed when using device type ZHPP3005

    Hi All,
    We are doing a HCM implementation. We are using HP P3005n printer and ZHPP3005 device type to print our HR forms. We are using ZCalibri font.These are smartforms. Everything was printing perfectly.
    Then there were retro calculations made to these forms.Strangely, the forms doesn't display these retro entries in the print preview using ZHPP3005 device type. Only the retro entries throughout the form are not printing. All other entries get printed.
    When we use device type HPLJIIID, we get these retro entries printed in our form however the format of the form gets changed.
    Now, we want to use device type ZHPP3005 and get these retro entries printed. How would we achieve this? Is this a device type issue? Or, anything needs to be done in the smartform? Why is this issue?
    Please help. Quick response will be appreciated. We are nearing our Go Live date and needs this resolved immediately.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi,
    Check the assigned page format to your custom device type. Try to assign all the page format which are available for
    HP*** which you gives you desired result.

  • Unable to send report output to printer when using RUN_REPORT_OBJECT in 10g

    Hello All,
    When I try to send my report output to a file from my form(10g), I get 'FRM-41213: Unable to connect to report server'. I can sucessfully send my report to printer when I set the REPORT_DESTYPE to 'PRINTER'.Here is the code from my when-button-pressed trigger.
    Am I missing something?
    declare
    repid REPORT_OBJECT;
    v_rep VARCHAR2(100);
    rep_status VARCHAR2(20);
    BEGIN
    repid := find_report_object('PWRR_CTRL_TYP_MAINT');
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(repid,REPORT_SERVER,'rep_ipkcaf7vm');
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(repid,REPORT_EXECUTION_MODE,BATCH);
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(repid,REPORT_COMM_MODE,SYNCHRONOUS);
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(repid,REPORT_DESTYPE,FILE);
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(repid,REPORT_DESFORMAT,'DFLT');
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(repid,REPORT_FILENAME,'C:\TEST1.doc');
    v_rep := RUN_REPORT_OBJECT(repid);
    rep_status := REPORT_OBJECT_STATUS(v_rep);
    WHILE rep_status in ('RUNNING','OPENING_REPORT','ENQUEUED')
         LOOP
         rep_status := report_object_status(v_rep);
    END LOOP;
    IF rep_status = 'FINISHED' THEN
              msg_alert('Report print successfully', 'I', FALSE);
    ELSE
         msg_alert('Error when running report', 'I', FALSE);
    END IF;
    END;
    Thanks,
    Anna

    Hi,
    its because
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(repid,REPORT_FILENAME,'C:\TEST1.doc');
    references the report rdf pr rep file to run, not the output file. The Reports output file is always specified with DESNAME

  • Dark Prints with Photoshop CS3 and CS4 but not Lightroom

    Hi, To start,I have calibrated my dell monitor with eye-one pro as well as my epson 7800. i am running vista 64 bit on my PC...
    When i use photoshop (CS3 or CS4) the images look fine on the screen and come out really dark on the printer. When i use lightroom, the images look fine on the screen and fine on the printer.
    Any guidance on how to "fix" photoshop would be appreciated. By the way, in photoshop print dialogue, i color manage the document, photoshop manages the color, the printer profile is set to the I-1 custom printer profile, rendering is perceptual, and black point compensation is checked.
    Thanks,
    Joe

    I manage color and service bureau printing at the college I work for, and we've been fighting the upgrade to CS4 for some time. Here's what we have so far.
    Apple dual G5 machine with 10.5.8
    Adobe PS CS3
    Adobe PS CS4
    3 x Epson 4800 Pro printers using an IP connection and using Driver version #6.11
    We manage color with custom created profiles in eyeOne with eyeOne pro hardware.
    When moving to CS4 for printing prints have gond dark and the color has taken an odd shift.
    When printing with CS3, we get consistent color and density
    All things being equal in the print settings for each version of PS.
    I have heard that CS4 addresses the printing system differently (using an updated printing api from Apple) is this true?
    When running prints from within another app (any app really) that prints directly through the OS, we get similar results as CS4.
    The best explaination that we've been able to get is that the (epson) print driver is operating on the older api calls, and that when the OS (or CS4) is operating on the newer calls, the color and density issues arise.
    Can anyone verify this?

  • Why do I have trouble printing when using Firefox, I have to change over to IE and the printing is OK

    When I try to print a page while using Firefox the printer does not work. A message stays on the screen 'preparing' and the searching circle keeps turning. I switch over to Internet Explorer and the page prints straight away. I recently tried to print a form I received from a company and a message showed that Firefox were having trouble, use IE

    Try the '''''reset''''' described here: <br />

    If you use the MSN the webcam software shouldnt be started and should not run!!!
    Disable the webcam software in msconfig. The webcam software should not start automatically while booting the notebook.
    Also the MSN shouldnt load. Disable it also in msconfig.

  • Excel 2013 bug printing when using two printers with same driver

    Hi,
    Was advise by "Community" to post this one here.
    The environment:
    Window 7 Sp1 x64
    Office 2013 Sp1 32 bit
    Windows 2012 Server (current patches).
    Two IDENTICAL network connected printers shared from above Windows 2012 server.
    As the two printers are the same, they both use the same printer driver.
    Printer A is set to Greyscale. This is the default printer.
    Printer B is set to Full Colour.
    Open Excel and start a blank worksheet.
    Choose Print - this shows the default printer (Printer A) - then Printer Properties - this verifies that the Default Printer is set to Greyscale as expected.
    Change printer within Excel to Printer B - then printer properties again - this shows us that printing is STILL in Greyscale ignoring the Printer B settings. Printing will indeed produce a greyscale print on Printer B.
    The reverse is also true - if we set Printer B (Color) as the Default, then choose Printer A (Greyscale) inside Excel, it will then show (and print) in Full Color - ignoring the printer A setting of greyscale.
    This ONLY occurs when connecting to Shared Printers on a Windows host (Server 2012 in this case).
    Direct IP printing from Win 7 to the printer works as expected (printer settings honoured).
    Non-Windows server based printer sharing works as expected (printer settings honoured).
    This ONLY occurs in Excel. Other programs including other Office components do not exhibit this bizarre behaviour.
    This ONLY occurs where the same driver is used by both printers.
    In effect, Excel is transposing the Default printer's settings onto whatever printer is chosen if it uses the same driver.
    Installing Office 2013 Service Pack 1 made no difference.
    This appears to be a long running issue (search result show Excel 2007,2010* and Windows 2008R2 server references).
    *Confirmed same behaviour with Windows XP and Excel 2010.
    This appears to affect multiple brands of printer (Xerox, Konica Minolta). Confirmed with 3 different generation Konica Minolta (Postscript) copiers and Dell multifunction (with PCL drivers).
    Does anyone have a solution for this ?
    Is there a setting hidden in Excel that should be changed ?
    Is there a server setting to "isolate" the two printers from each other ?
    Regards
    Ian

    KR,
    Thanks for the reply but note I said "The reverse is also true - if we set Printer B (Color) as the Default, then choose Printer A (Greyscale) inside Excel, it will then show (and print) in Full Color - ignoring the printer A setting of greyscale."
    Also, it is the printer properties that are being set. I believe the setting you refer to is per worksheet ?
    Cheers
    Ian

  • Communication problem with printer when using Parallels

    OK, apologies if this has been asked elsewhere but I've been trawling the forum for an hour and have yet to find the exact problem that I'm having!
    First of all, I'm a recent convert to Mac (hurrah I hear you all cry), secondly, I've set up Parallels to deal with some PC left-overs, thirdly, I've tried to use my old Dell printer and realised Dell doesn't support Macs (or not my AIO 922 anyway).
    So, I thought I'd get round this by installing the drivers for the printer on the Windows partition, which all went well until I actually tried to print something... although the printer is visible and 'on-line', I get the box informing me there's a communation problem with the printer and computer.
    It's beginning to wind me up so any info/advice would be greatly appreciated

    This is either a Windows or a Parallels problem. For Parallels go to http://forum.parallels.com. For Windows go to the support forums at Microsoft.
    There is no support for either product at these Discussions.
