Dark Side of the Moon (Breathe) and iTunes Match

I recently downloaded the 2011 remastering of Dark Side of the Moon from Amazon. When I run it through iTunes Match though, I get a discrepancy on track 2 (Breathe) between the original mp3 and the matched version. The track length is 2:50 on the mp3 and 2:49 on the matched version. Of course, this wouldn’t normally be a problem, except on albums like DSOTM where the missing second produces a noticeable blip as track 2 goes into track 3 – all the transitions between the other matched files are seamless and as they should be. If I play the original mp3 from my computer as part of the matched album (i.e. one mp3 file amongst the other 9 matched AAC files) there’s no problem at all.
The version for sale in the iTunes store puts the length at 2:49, so my question is: does anyone who has bought the album directly from the store have the same issue? My guess is that the problem only exists with the version which is not ‘Mastered for iTunes’ – i.e. the version that you get if you subscribe to iTunes Match, otherwise I’m sure that somebody would have posted about this before.

Interesting – thanks for that, Jim.
My Amazon version is also 2:49.586, but the iTunes Match version is 2:48.820 – which is enough to cause a blip. A little more research reveals that there are, infact, two versions of the album for sale in the iTunes store, both purporting to be the 2011 remaster: one is ‘Mastered for iTunes’ the other not. Interestingly, some of the reviews warn specifically about this problem: that some of the tracks have been carelessly edited.
So, anyway – based on your comments, I decided to bite the bullet and buy the ‘Mastered for iTunes’ version. There is no problem – as you say the track is 2:49.534 and the transition between tracks, seamless.
So, you would have thought, problem solved.
You would have thought…
Clearly though,  iTunes Match isn’t able to discern that it is the ‘Mastered for iTunes’ version which I now own, because the version that gets delivered via my apple TV or iPad is still the non-MfiT version. Likewise, if I delete the matched MfiT version from my computer and re-download, I get the non-MfiT version.
I’m going to send a copy of this thread to apple support and ask that they look into it.
By the way, your original copy of DSOTM was from a previous mastering. Prior to 2011 ‘Speak to Me/Breathe’ was mastered as a single track. My CD copy of the album is the same.

  • Dark Side Of The Moon RUINED in iTunes Plus

I downloaded the classic album Dark Side Of The Moon by Pink Floyd last night and immediately began listening to one of my favourite albums. However, on track 5 (The Great Gig In The Sky) there are a couple of little cackles a couple of minutes in, but then at 3 minutes 38 seconds there is a definite GAP, right in the middle of the track! This is NOT a gap between tracks, but a gap in the recording itself- I couldn't believe it. So, I knew it was going to cost another £1, but I had to try downloading that one track again just to be certain it wasn't a problem with the download, and it was exactly the same on the second download, so it is definately a problem on the track iTunes is selling to millions. I have reported it to iTunes and have had a couple of automated response emails.
The trouble is, it ruins the whole album. You can't listen to the album without that track- Pink Floyd albums don't work that way.
Anyone have a guess what will happen next? Will they offer me credit? Will the track be re-encoded? Anyone else notice the gap?

Apple now have 5million+ tracks on the iTunes store, and it is just not realistic to expect them to listen to them all (to check them). In any case Apple provide software to the record companies to let the record companies submit music to the store, and one could argue it would be more appropriate and practical for each record company to check before submitting tracks.
Based on other comments here and elsewhere, Apple seem very good at following up on reports like this, I would expect either they will upload a fixed version, or issue you with a credit (and possibly a bonus on top).
Give them a little more time. If they are waiting for a corrected upload they may have to wait for the record company to get off its fat ***.
Of course you could have bought the real CD, it probably would have been cheaper than buying on iTunes.

  • No breaks / think Abbey Road side 2 or Dark Side of the Moon

How do I keep certain songs together as they appeared on the original recordings like Dark Side of The Moon or Abbey Road side 2? I'd like them to always play back together instead of being considered "separate" songs.

... and if you're feeling really adventurous you can convert your combined track to AAC format and go on to make it into the equivalent of an enhanced podcast by using Apple's Chapter Tool to add chapters for each of the original tracks.
The process is a bit daunting and involves creation of an XML file and use of the command line in Terminal to produce the finished m4a file, but it works flawlessly. It's a real thrill to see the iTunes display update the title as it reaches the appropriate point in the combined track — and each 'track' can be accessed directly from the Chapter pulldown in iTunes. Cool!

  • TS1424 dark side of the moon is missing the endings to every song

anyone ever have a problem like this?  Idownloaded the album and every song is missing its ending

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.

Please, is there anyone one out who can help me solve this problem? I just can seem to figure out how to get to the U.S. store... thanks!

I just read this solution, tried it & now it's working...
I think I found a fix...I went to Settings, iTunes & App Stores, then click on your Apple ID...view Apple ID...change country region to USA (even though it was already USA...just do it again...go through the steps making sure the United States store is selected...agree to the Terms of Service, THEN I think what the key is is to RE-auhorize your credit card...in my case all I had to do was enter the security code...and it worked...I am now able to download the YouTube app for example...couldn't do it before.

  • Updated iPad 1 to IOS 5. When trying to restore my iPad from my backup it gets half way through and the iPad reboots and iTunes says "An error occurred while restoring this iPad (-1)"

Updated iPad 1 to IOS 5. When trying to restore my iPad from my backup it gets half way through and the iPad reboots and iTunes says "An error occurred while restoring this iPad (-1)"
I have tried to restore my contacts and company data at least 20 times and every time half way through THE iPAD REBOOTS! When it boots back up it is at the brand new iPad screen.
This makes me angry as I do not use the iPad for fun and games. I use it for business. My company data and records for the last year are gone. ALL of my out standing customer invoices are gone. ALL payments received are gone! ALL Business contacts and emails ARE GONE! All my company, personal email accounts and settings ARE GONE!
What am I supposed to do now? In 6 hours I have to get on the road and conduct business with a empty blank factory out of the box iPad. How am I supposed to know who owes me money or who has paid their bills Apple? All of my meetings and calendar dates are GONE!
Everything was supposed to be backed up and restored after the update!
Question???WHY DID YOU MAKE THIS UPDATE WIPE OUT ALL SETTINGS AND APPS ON THE iPAD??? All the other updates left everything on the iPad intact and ONLY upgraded the IOS,and when it was done everything was still there.
Yes! I have done everything. Rebooted computer, checked for updates, Hard booted iPad, Factory restored iPad to ios 5 twice, tried every usb port I have, unplugged all other usb components.
Everytime half way through "Restoring iPad from backup..." The iPad turns off shows a spinning circle then shows the Apple logo and takes me to the brand new iPad setup screen.
Apple, you have no idea the level of stress you have created today.....

Check the console app to see if there are any error messages. I had one app showing an issue (Pet Hotel) the error was (truncated):
    ERROR: Restore message response: 102 rename error: File name too long (63) at path "/var/mobile/Library/SafeHarbor/com.pocketgems.tappethotel/Container/Documents/ savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHis tory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGa meHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/sa vedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHisto ry/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGame History/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/save dGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory /savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHi story/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedG ameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/s avedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHist ory/savedGameHistory/1313349538-pocket_gems_crash_report.txt" (MBErrorDomain/102)
I manually snyc'ed that particular app and then re-ran the restore and am now the proud owner of a working iphone. Not sure it is the same problem or app but looking in the console was the key!

  • Cannot see BOTH synched library AND iTunes Match library at the same time

I ran iTunes Match on my library of MP3 files and hit the maximum allowed 25,000 song limit in my paid iTunes Match account. Then I created a new version of my local/PC iTunes library with those 25,000 MP3 songs removed, and synchronized it with my iPhone 4s running IOS7 and iTunes Match turned OFF. So far so good.
So now I theoretically have no duplication between my 25,000 song iTunes Match library and my local iTunes library that resides on my PC.
But even though I have the "Show All Music" setting on the phone turned on, the iTunes Match songs don't appear on my iPhone until I also turn the iTunes Match setting on. But as soon as I do that, all of the songs I synched from my local iTunes library on my PC completely disappear- having been completely replaced by my iTunes Match library. If I then turn the iTunes Match setting off again (while still leaving "Show All Music on"), the iTunes Match songs also disappear, leaving my iPhone music library completely empty. Have I misunderstood the meaning of the "Show All Music" setting, or is something malfunctioning?
My question is: How can I make ALL of my songs (both the ones I have previously captured in ITunes Match AND the ones I synched with my PC via iTunes) appear on my iPhone at the same time?  This scenario seemed to be working just fine under IOS6 on the same iPhone.

I had a somewhat similar experience.  When I enabled paid iTunes Match on my iPhone 5, iOS7, all of my locally-stored songs on the iPhone disappeared and remained gone even after I disabled iTunes Match on the iPhone.
A chat session with Apple support revealed that iTunes Match will in fact supersede any synched content on the iPhone.  The suggestion from Apple support was to download on the phone all the previously-synched content via iTunes Match wireless connection.  Of course, that would take hours if not days.  And that crazy workaround won't help you because you want songs other than what you have in the Cloud.
It appears that various members of this forum have not had this same experience.  I'm not sure what's going on here.  Usually with Apple's tight control of hardware and software these anomalies are avoided.
And I didn't really need iTunes Match except I wanted commercial-free iTunes Radio (which I think is great, by the way).  At least for now, commercial-free radio (with a paid subscription) can be achieved only by enabling all of the iTunes Match features.  I'm not sure why Apple requires this bundling unless its part of a general push to a streaming model for everything (more revenue opportunities) as opposed to supporting local storage.

  • Multiple iphones each with an apple id - can i use the same laptop and itunes for back up, restore and updates?

We have two iphones each with a different apple id - can i use the same laptop and itunes for back up, restore and updates without risking having my apps overwritten.  Basically does itunes keep the two iphones as two separate entities ?  Does iTunes differentiate between the two devices and keep two different SYNCs ?

Yes, you can use the same computer for BACK UPS, RESTORING AND UPDATING. But that is it.
You cannot, however, use it to sync the different devices. iTunes will only recognize one device to sync with and if you sync any other devices with that iTunes library, it will replace what is on the phone with whatever is in the library. It cannot differentiate between devices. At most, it will jsut recognize that the phone has been synced with a different iTunes library.
So if you would like to use the same computer for backing up, restoring and updating, just make sure to turn of Automatic Syncing in your iTunes Preferences.

  • I the cloud and itunes match. Some songs have the "waiting" icon next to them but are unable to upload and instead of determing them ineligible itunes continues to try to upload that song and never gets to the rest of the list.

I have  icloud and itunes match and most of my songs have been uploaded to the cloud. Some songs still have the "waiting" icon next to them and when I turn itunes match on they neither upload nor are they determined ineligible. My computer will literally spin its wheels for hours trying to upload the same song. Additionally, I uploaded an audiobook disc on my computer and 3 of the 11 tracks are still waiting to be uploaded???

The exclamation mark happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .
If the missing files just can't be found then, assuming you are in region where you are permitted multiple downloads of your audio purchases, delete the current enties and download again from your purchased history.

  • Can two people with their own iPhones use the same computer and iTunes?

Can two people with their own iPhones use the same computer and iTunes?

Yes. My wife and I each have our own Apple ID and used the same computer to sync our phones with iTunes. The best way to do this is set up separate user accounts on the computer. If you are logged in to your account on the computer and your wife wants to sync here phone, you would log out and she would log in. These keeps all your stuff separate and avoids a ton of confusion.

Enter the Apple ID you want to use for iCloud in Control Panel > Network > Internet > iCloud.
Enter the Apple ID you want to use for store purchases (including iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match) in iTunes > iTunes Store.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
iTunes and iCloud and different accounts, you will need to delete both accounts from your device before adding the new details in their place.
For iCloud go to settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit the delete button. You can then sign back in using your correct details. For iTunes go to settings >store, tap your account ID and then sign out, you can then sign back in using your correct Apple ID.

My sister and I each have an ipod touch. We use the same computer and itunes but each have our own apple id. Everytime I want to update an app on my ipod it asks for my sisters apple id login!? help!

When it asks for another ID on an App Update, it means that the application was purchased under your sister's ID but downloaded to your device from the iTunes library that you share. Even though you both have your own Apple IDs, since you are syncing on the same computer, you are using the same iTunes library.
Whoever purchased the app is forever tied to it, and you can only have one version of a particular app in a single library....
    Does that make sense?

  • Can I backup two iPhones to the same laptop and iTunes account?

Is it possible to backup and sync an iPhone 4 and an iPhone 3Gs to the same laptop and iTunes account?  My wife and I both have iPhones.  Her laptop just crashed, so we only have one laptop to use as a back up / sync now.

Yes, iTunes will maintain separate backups for each device. Note, however, ALL iTunes content, presently on your wife's phone will be erased when you first sync it to your computer. So, you need to get all of that content into your iTunes library first. Read here about your choices for managing multiple devices on one computer:
