  • Dark spot/Artifact in camera app and photos?

    Hi Folks,
I noticed this spot that shows up in my camera app and in pictures taken with a light background. I attached a sample pic.
I checked the lens and it's clean. I also cleaned it again and it doesn't make a difference. I don't remember this prior to iOS 8.3, but that doesn't mean it wasn't there before. Maybe I just never noticed it?
Has anyone had this issue? Could it be software related or is it simply hardware related? Maybe dust? Any help or thoughts would be appeciated.
I'm still under warranty. Everything else is perfect with the phone.
    Thanks!

I have not had to use their warranty service but you could start by reporting it here:  https://getsupport.apple.com/Issues.action
I think they have a pretty quick turnaround with servicing.  You will need to backup your iPhone because your device will be wiped/replaced.  You can restore from backup once you get your repaired/new iPhone.
GIve Apple support a call, they may have a fix or be able to rule out any other cause & that is is actually a hardware issue & not software related.
    Good Luck!
    Thanks again, jazcan!
I contacted Apple support and they set up a return for service. It was very simple. Like you said, it appears to be hardware related.
What I thought was cool, they are able to diagnose your phone remotely. It even tells them whether it's been wet or dropped. That is unreal and very cool! My phone is pristine shape, so it passed just fine. I'll be without a phone for a few days, but it will be well worth it.
After I receive the phone, I'll update the thread.

  • Why does my camera have dark spots?

The camera displays several dark spots when the camera is open. The photos taken also show these spots. Any help?

    Hi PLalu,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.

  • Impressive iMac 24" Dark Spots

Sorry to repeat. But I don't understand why what I posted yesterday disappeared.
My story is long to write down. I hope any of you who got experience with dark spots/patterns on iMac screens can help me to look into the problem I appreciate your help.
The associated pictures of this post can be found here in my google album:
    http://picasaweb.google.com/zhangchao/IMacDarkSpots?feat=directlink
I purchased my iMac 24 inch in July 2008. After using it for 2 months, I noticed some dark patterns started to appear on the machine’s 24 inch screen. I should have taken it to Apple back then if I wasn’t using it all the time.
These patterns become clearer if you set the background to white. A lot of iMac users have reported similar problems. Actually, if you google "iMac dark spot", you can find a lot of such posts. The patterns I got are very similar to what’s reported here in the very first picture here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1915086&tstart=15
I contacted Apple two weeks ago when I finally got some time free. I was asked to go to the Apple Store here in Milwaukee’s Bayshore mall and left my machine there for 3 days for them to investigate. When I went to the store to pick up my Mac, I talked to the gentleman who did the repair and investigation work and a manager. They basically told me that I got the patterns because there was some weird “white substance” everywhere in my machine. The substance was circulated between the layers of glass cover and the LCD etc appearing to us as the dark spots. However, it’s easy to remove the stuff between the LCD and the glass cover but impossible to remove the stuff which got into the LCD.
They strongly suspect the white substance came from where I placed my machine (my living room indeed). They don’t think the “white substance” is hair or fiber. It’s like pure dust and very subtle. Since they believe the cause of the problem is environmental, they will not fix it for me under my warranty.
But I disagree and I think the white substance indeed comes from inside of the machine.
Overall, I think my apartment is pretty clean. The machine is always placed on a wooden table which I clean every week. There aren’t a lot of things around my iMac so it gets good air circulation.
My apartment is located in an apartment community. Hundreds of people live here. The community is not new (20+ years old) and is professionally maintained. I talked to the manager of the community and some of my neighbors, none of them have ever heard of anything similar.
In my apartment, I have never been able to observe the "white substance" anywhere aside from the iMac. I did some investigation into the case, placing some blue tape under the hole of the back of the iMac where air comes out. After doing that for over one week, the only place that I can observe any "white substance" is on the piece of blue tape. The pictures in the album will make everything clear. This makes it really hard for me to believe the problem is environmental. In addition to that, if the "white substance" is so subtle and so weird (as if the only purpose of its very existence is to get iMac into trouble. Other computers and electronic devices in my apartment are completely fine), how can so many people got similar dark patterns on their screens?
However, Apple doesn't take this as evidences that the problem is not environmental. Right now, I am gonna buy air purifiers and hire professional indoor air inspectors to help me to find where the trouble is.
I read several posts re "iMac dark spots" problems. Some lucky guys simply got their screens replaced by Apple and others were just left with no help.None of them actually gives detailed explanation of the cause of their problems. I notice most of reported problems happen to iMac 24 inch machines shipped in early and mid 2008.
If you have any insights, please let me know. I greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

Since you purchased your iMac in July of 2008, you are right on the edge of your one year limited warranty.
Go here https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do and see if you iMac is still within the one year limited warranty. You will need the serial number which is located... click the Apple Menu then click About This Mac. Where you see the Version number 10.5 click there twice. The serial number will be displayed there. If you can't see it there, open the System Profiler. (Applications/Utilities) Select Hardware on the left. The serial number is on the right.
If it were me, I'd take the iMac back to that Apple store and *ask to speak to a manager*. Tell them you are dissatisfied with the outcome of your first visit and want your iMac repaired.
Make sure and take in your original purchase receipt from when you purchased the iMac and any other pertinent paperwork.
*"They basically told me that I got the patterns because there was some weird “white substance” everywhere in my machine."*
    I don't believe that.
This problem started within 2 months of using your iMac. It would take the force of an F1 tornado to get that much dust inside the monitor that fast.
If you still can't get that Apple store to repair your iMac, if you can, go to another Apple store OR find an Apple certified repair provider. Perhaps you know of a friend with a Mac that might be able to give you some recommendations for a place to take it. But make sure they are Apple certified.

  • Anyone ever had black spots or dark spots?

anyone ever had black spots or dark spots on their ipods screen. Any gen.

I have the same problem theres dark spots under the screen and it no longer works. Ipod will not fix it even though i took very good care of my ipod and it dosent even have the slightest scratch on the exterior. I think ipod should fix this because it is obviously a defect and not caused by abuse.

  • Dark Spots on rMBP=Backlight Bleed?

Recently just purchased a Retina Macbook Pro refurb from the Apple store. Screen is a Samsung and perfect in all other respects: no dead pixels, no mura etc. The only issue I notice is when I turn the screen to an extreme angle, I see these darker spots on a white screen:
Should I be concerned or have others seen this issue as well? I really don't want to go through screen after screen.

Actually let me clear up a mistake I've made...
What I meant to say was that Apple were unable to *replace* the screen at this late juncture in time but *they can* in fact repair it. What I meant to say was that I asked Apple if a replacement would be possible but they said that the reseller would need to be contacted as they had final word on this. In the end the reseller declined and said that a repair was the only option. Sorry for the mixup there.
Anyway, I think I'll go with Apple rather than my reseller to get the replacement done. One can only assume that the Genius bar service centre is top notch when it comes to repairs? Would be interested to know if anybody here on the forums has had their iMac screens replaced by Apple due to backlight bleed (or even a different issue) and how it ended up working out for them?
    Thanks.

  • Dark spot

So my new MacBook arrived today and I was so excited. I have been without one for a few days now because I sold mine to buy a step up and it has been killing me. I don't know how I lived without.
I booted up and there is a small dark spot at about mid screen, a thumbs width from the inner edge of the display. It is between the size of a period and a bullet point.
Am I really going to have to return the whole computer for a little spot or can it be repaired by someone locally?
I have been going round and round with myself, debating whether I should send it in and be out a computer for that much longer or just live with it. It is obnoxious to be sure, but tolerable so I guess it is more the principal of the thing.
Also, has anyone ever noticed that sometimes when you click in a box or a window to type that the first keystroke doesn't register? I noticed that on my old as well as the new laptop (worse on the new,) especially with the delete key. I have to press it one extra time to get it to delete. It isn't every time, but most often when it's sat a minute without being pressed, or what I would describe as the keys being "cold."
    Thanks

I have the same problem on a curve 3G 9300 any help...

  • Dark spot on screen when using rear camera and phone shutting down randomly at 20% power

I probably already know the answer to my question but my nearest apple store is 2hrs drive away so just want to know has anyone experienced the same issues and if so what was their resolution?
I noticed last week when i went to use the camera that the phone randomly shut off even though I had near 20% batter power, it then would not switch on again without me plugging it in to charge. I am always careful with charging and discharging the battery, ive done resets and a restore but the issue is still there snd today i noticed the dark spot on the screen and subsequently on the photo when using the rear camera - its definitely not there when using the front facing camera.
If i go to the apple store will they swap it out (still plenty of warranty)? I cant do it by post as I need my phone at all times and dont have a cc to do the express service return!!!
    Thanks in advance

I've had this same problem. I called apple about it and they said that it seems to be a current problem with a lot of peoples phone. The only question that I have, if anyone can answer, is that Apple is supposed to send me a new phone to replace mine but I am wondering if it will be the 3G or the old model, which is what I already have. If anyone knows then let me know, but Chennie, just call apple and they will help you out.

  • HT201401 There is a dark spot in my iphone camera. My camera used to be clear, but about a few month ago it has changed by this dark spot. It's very annoying. Please, tell me how to fix it.

    Please help
My iphone camera got a dark spot. Im really sure that this happen to my cam not a screen.
A dark spot is very annoying when I want to take a picture.
I have tried to clean and looked for the way to fix it, but its not work.
If your iphone used to be like mine and you can fixed it, then teach me please.
    I really need some help.

Camera isn't functioning or has undesired image quality
If the screen shows a closed lens or black image, force quit the Camera app.
If you do not see the Camera app on the Home screen, try searching for it in Spotlight. If the camera does not show up in the search, check to make sure that Restrictions are not turned on by tappingSettings > General > Restrictions.
Ensure the camera lens is clean and free from any obstructions. Use a microfiber polishing cloth to clean the lens.
Cases can interfere with the camera and the flash. Try gently cleaning the lens with a clean dry cloth or removing the case if you see image or color-quality issues with photos.
Try turning iPhone off and then back on.
Tap to focus the camera on the subject. The image may pulse or briefly go in and out of focus as it adjusts.
Try to remain steady while focusing:
Still images: Remain steady while taking the picture. If you move too far in any direction, the camera automatically refocuses to the center.
Note: If you take a picture with iPhone turned sideways, it is automatically saved in landscape orientation.
Video: Adjust focus before you begin recording. You can also tap to readjust focus while recording. Exiting the Camera application while recording will stop recording and will save the video to the Camera Roll.
Note: Video-recording features are not available on original iPhone or iPhone 3G.
If your iPhone has a front and rear camera, try switching between them to verify if the issue persists on both.

  • Do I have to live with dark/dead pixels with my new 15" MBP? Yesterday I bought one and have one dark spot in the middle of the screen.

    Hello
Yesterday I bought a 15" MBP and found a dark spot in the middle of its screen right away while in the 1st-time-welcome-boot. What a welcome. Do I have to live with it? It is exactly one pixel missing its yellow subpixel. It would be ok if it would be in some corner - but its right in the middle of the screen. Suggestions/experiences in this matter anyone?

Thanks for your suggestions - took it back - got a new, mint, shiny one

  • Anybody seeing Screen Flaws (Uneven Tint, Dark Spots, Bookspine, etc) on iPad Mini 2?

We know all iPad Air has the issues describe in topic name already.
Those of you that just have received the iPad Mini 2, can you check the screen for uneven whites / tints, dark spots / book spines?  You can check by setting your background color to all black or white.  If you are lazy to do this, just open up an internet browser and open up a page with white background.  Check for uneven whites / tints.  Report the color of your white / tints and where they are located.
    Man tanks!

  • Dark spots in my screen.

Hi, I bought an Imac 27'' like 6 months ago, but my screen seems to have some dark spots in the corner, when I put any white image, on that spots it shows like the screen were dusty but is not, at the same time in the middle screen when if Iput some black image some pixels show lighter than the others. is there any solution? thanks for answer .

Contact Apple Service, iMac Service or Apple's Express Lane. Do note that if you have AppleCare's protection plan and you're within 50 miles (80 KM) of an Apple repair station, you're eligible for onsite repair since yours is a desktop machine.

  • Series of Dark Spots at the Screen Bottom

    Hi all,
Just purchased my Macbook Pro 15" w/ Anti-Glare LCD screen. This is the 4th Mac I've owned over the years so I'm familiar with them. The second time I went to use it, I noticed a series of dark spots positioned horizontally at the bottom of the screen. Each one is absolutely even in shape, size and spacing and it looks as though each spot fans out into the top of the screen, gradually decreasing in intensity.
Unless a person has a white background or black background towards the bottom of the screen, it's not as visible but it is definitely there, it looks funny and I'm wondering if that's just the way it is or is this a defect?
    Thanks,
    -Evan

I have spots at the bottom and left side of my LCD. First appeared to look as the screen was dirty (and as mentioned by another post, only really visible on light or white background). They are not the same size. Took it to Apple Authorized repair, tech said it looked like the liquid (of LCD) was "leaking." Said he needed to send photo to Apple, Apple denied repair/replacement citing abuse / environmental (excessive heat-cold). Needless to say I am not a happy camper, my MBP is a very pampered laptop, no abuse or exposure to cold/heat extremes. Tech said this could eventually "creep" across screen. On top of that, who wants a computer with a "defective" screen? I have appealed to Apple to reconsider their denial; will post here when I hear back.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
If the iPod is defective and not abused Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one at no cost
