Dark transparent window overlayed all windows

There is a Dark Transparent 'window' that has overlayed it self on the screen. It is in the top Right Corner and I can not make it disappear...
Any ideas?
Before I start tearing apart my system?
cheers.

Amagine,
Is it LCD or CRT?
Could be the monitor:
1. Try it on another system!
If all else fails.
2. Try going into ColorSync Utility and playing around with the color settings and see what happens.
Try changing the resolution and colors, also if there are multiple Hz settings try changing them and playing around with that.
3.Still there? Try reseating the video card. No dice with that, and the same deal on another system then it's the monitor. If it's LCD it's probably the monitor.
Do it in whatever order is easier for you. I just felt like numbering them.

  • Firefox 5.0 won't open a new window if all windows are closed or minimized

    Running Firefox 5.0 under Mac OS X 10.6.8. If I close all of the windows, or all windows are minimized, I can't open a new window. A new window is listed in the Windows menu with the name "Mozilla Firefox", but the window does not actually exist. The ghost window can't be selected from that menu and therefore also can't be closed

    Well, the behavior I described is now intermittent. Sometimes I can open a new window and sometimes I can't. If I can't, command-Tab does nothing. So far I've found no consistent circumstances under which I can or can't open a new window.
    Originally I was running computationally intensive program that required 3.35 days to complete its run. When the run was over the Firefox problem disappeared - for awhile. Then the problem recurred in the intermittent fashion I've described.

  • How can I resize and reposition the Date Created window for All windows?

    When setting view options for a finder window set to list view, I cannot get column resizing or positioning to hold. When making those changes, the option for "All Windows" automatically shifts to "This window only" and it then does not hold.

    ''After installed ubuntu 10.11 through 10.04, whenever you try to close a window of Firefox, they close all that were open, but only become invisible and continue to work somewhere in the background. If you see a pop-up as the new window and if I want to close it on an simple button "X" then they are all close.
    After killing over Terminal and restarts a firefox window, re-engage all windows that have been worked in the background but they are now visible. And again it is impossible to kill only one windows. Help !!!!!!!!

    In case anyone reads this, I managed to burn my CD by changing the speed of the burn in iTunes. It was set on Maximum possible and I noticed from the CD Diagnostic report (see previous article) that the speed of the drive was listed as 16, but the burn had failed at 24x, so I reduced it to 12 to be safe, and it worked. It plays okay in the car but I have noticed that when I restart the player, it doesn't seem to recognise the CD and ejects it so that I have to push it back in, and it then starts at track 1 again. Not sure if this is to do with the way it was burned, but at least its playing the tracks!

  • How can you get CMD + L to open a new window, when all windows are closed?

    In Firefox 28 and earlier, you could hit Apple + L (CMD + L) when no FF windows were open, and it would pull up a blank page with the cursor blinking in the address bar.
    After installing FF 29, when you hit CMD + L (with no windows open) it just plays the system alert sound and does nothing.
    I want to be able to hit CMD + TAB to gain control of an idle Firefox, and then be able to hit CMD + L to gain control of a BLANK address bar.
    Every other version of Firefox I've ever used did this, so am I missing something here? Any ideas?
    Note: I realize that you can hit CMD + N to launch a new window and then CMD + L to select the text within the address bar. I'm not looking to re-train my habits within Firefox, but simply want that feature like it was in the previous 28 versions.

    Well, after an entire week without a word from Mozilla, I officially give up.
    I understand that new software will have bugs when it is released. I understand that the bugs are fixed in the order of greatest impact/priority. I also understand that my issue is not a bug, rather a feature that was inexplicably removed.
    A couple of things I cannot understand —
    Why would Mozilla remove '''ANY''' features from their software when they are touting this as the most customizable web browser ever? That is obviously not logical and will be to their detriment in the long run.
    Furthermore, if a person did get on here just to complain about this update, they were immediately met with a canned response from a moderator, which offered a few options to make Firefox '''LOOK''' like the previous version. That speaks volumes about this update and the developers' confidence in it. The person who gets on here with a legitimate problem asking why a feature was removed — they get '''NO''' response from a moderator. Again, this speaks volumes. I am not even asking for an immediate solution to this problem, just the acknowledgement that there is a problem. On top of that, especially in the development of software, the old adage particularly rings its truest — ''If it ain't broke, don't fix it.''
    Lastly, I think we can all agree that Firefox 29 is a blatant ripoff of Google Chrome. If I wanted Google Chrome, that is exactly what I would have downloaded. That pains me not only as a devout Firefox user for nearly 10 years, but especially as I have donated over $200 to the Mozilla Foundation in that time. In other words, I have financially supported the development of a software that has become absolutely indifferent to its users' needs, and moreover, they have now resorted to copying off of their neighbor.
    I have since rolled back versions — all the way to Netscape Navigator 9 — which seems to have just about as much functionality as the bungled mess that is Firefox 29.
    I genuinely appreciate all of the time and effort that goes in to creating open-source software, and I financially support the projects that I feel adhere to the open-source philosophy. That said, Mozilla.org seems to be straying away from this philosophy, to the point where, for me, it is simply time for a change.
    Thanks for the memories, Firefox!

  • Windows 7 all window backgrounds are green

    http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee28/ido1957/Green%20Windows.jpg
    The background on my windows has changed to this green color (from normal white).
    It happened suddenly while I was on the laptop. All text boxes are filled with this same green - for instance the login box if filled with green. Attached is a picture of my Google home page. You can see what I mean.
    I found the windows display settings and reset the background of windows to white, pressed apply/ok and it flickered momentarily trying to go white then went back to green.
    Ran Malwarebytes and AVG and found nothing.
    Did system restore back to March and no change.
    Can anyone help me?

  • Photoshop cs5.5  / Duplicates active windows to all windows

    It is a very strange problem. I have no crashes, everything is smooth exept the viewing og documents.
    Two issues:
    1. Photoshop takes an extra few minutes to react to changes made.
    2. If i have 3 documents open and i want to view them as tiles. It will look like i have the same document open 3 times.
    Which ever document i chosen as active, will duplicate itself to the two others. The layers doesn't. Its aonly the view of the document.
    This is a trial install of cs5.5 on an imac with sn0wleopard. Ive used it for a few days, and i cant figure it out...and it makes it impossible compare documents.

  • Finder views change for all windows

    After playing around with Snow Leopard for just a few days, I noticed that when I change a view type in any Finder window, that view is applied to all windows. Is this by design? With Tiger, you could specify the view for "this folder only" or "all folders"

    Joe - I've been heavily researching this issue. I've received some helpful advice from baltow, but here is how I fixed my problem. While in Best Buy over the weekend, I played on one of their Macs running Leopard 10.5.8 to see if the problem started before Snow Leopard. It did, wasn't just me. Then I found this site:
    http://www.macintouch.com/leopard/faq.html#finder
    It said: *Why don't my window view settings stick?* The Leopard Finder's approach to consistency is to use the last view you selected in any Finder window for all new Finder windows. You can override this on a per-folder basis; go to the menu View > Show View Options (or press Command-J). This opens a view options Inspector (a mini-window much like a traditional Palette window); at the top of this window, check the "Always open in" box to force the folder always to show the current view.
    This is what was throwing me off - I thought that Always open in box was a global setting, not on an individual folder basis. With Tiger, you had two options: This window only, All windows.
    Now I will play with the Arrange By setting and see if that works as well.

  • Container panels transparent in JInternalFrame with Windows XP Style

    Hi All
    I have a problem with a GUI where panels extending java.awt.Container (added to JInternalFrame) are transparent when using Windows XP Style (Windows XP Pro). The components added to the Container (for example JButton, JComboBox etc.) paint correctly but the surrounding space of the Container to which they belong is translucent such that the desktop below can be seen.
    When I switch to Windows Classic Style this does not happen. I'm using JDK6.0.
    Has anyone encountered this problem?
    Help appreciated
    Lance

    Just an update; this is the config I'm using to bootstrap the app (in main):
      UIManager.put("swing.boldMetal", Boolean.FALSE);
      UIManager.put("ToolTip.background", Color.YELLOW);
      JDialog.setDefaultLookAndFeelDecorated(true);
      JFrame.setDefaultLookAndFeelDecorated(true);
      Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().setDynamicLayout(true);
      System.setProperty("sun.awt.noerasebackground","true");
      UIManager.setLookAndFeel(UIManager.getSystemLookAndFeelClassName());The GUI is assembled from basic panels which extend Container, typical example below:
    public class BottomContainer extends Container implements ActionListener {
         private ActionListener handler;
         private ModeButton closeCancelButton;
         private JProgressBar progressBar;
         private ResourceBundle bundle;
         public BasicBottomContainer(ResourceBundle bundle) {
              super();
              this.bundle = bundle;
              createGui();
         public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
              Object source = e.getSource();
              ActionEvent xEvent = null; // translated event
              if (source == closeCancelButton) {
                   ButtonModes mode = ((ModeButton) source).getMode();
                   if (mode == ButtonModes.CANCEL) {
                        xEvent = new ProxyActionEvent(ActionProxies.CANCEL_BUTTON);
                   } else if (mode == ButtonModes.CLOSE) {
                        xEvent = new ProxyActionEvent(ActionProxies.CLOSE_BUTTON);
                   } else {
                        throw new IllegalArgumentException("Mode not defined");
              } else {
                   throw new IllegalArgumentException("Source not defined");
              handler.actionPerformed(xEvent);
         private void createGui() {
              setLayout(new BoxLayout(this, BoxLayout.X_AXIS));
              progressBar = new JProgressBar();
              progressBar.setMinimum(0);
              progressBar.setMaximum(100);
              progressBar.setVisible(false);
              JPanel progressPanel = new JPanel();
              progressPanel.setLayout(new BorderLayout());
              progressPanel.add(progressBar, BorderLayout.CENTER);
              GuiUtils.setFixedSize(progressPanel, 200, 13);
              progressPanel.setVisible(false);
              ButtonModes mode = ButtonModes.CLOSE;
              closeCancelButton = new ModeButton(bundle.getString("closeButton"), mode);
              localeChangeList.add(closeCancelButton, "closeButton");
              closeCancelButton.setMinimumSize(new Dimension(80, 25));
              closeCancelButton.addActionListener(this);
              add(GuiUtils.rigidArea(15, 55)); // spacing with left-hand border & height
              add(progressPanel);
              add(Box.createHorizontalGlue()); // push apart
              add(closeCancelButton);
              add(GuiUtils.rigidArea(15, 0)); // spacing with right-hand border
              setVisible(false);
         public void updateRefreshProgress(int refreshProgress) {
              progressBar.setValue(refreshProgress);
         public void setCloseCancelButtonMode(ButtonModes mode) {
              closeCancelButton.setMode(mode);
         public void setHandler(ActionListener handler) {
              this.handler = handler;
    }The Container above is then attached in the main GUI something like this:
    public abstract class TestView extends AbstractView {
         protected TopContainer topContainer;
         protected MiddleContainer middleContainer;
         protected BottomContainer bottomContainer;
         public AbstractView() {
              createGui();
         private void createGui() {
              topContainer = new TopContainer(model.getBundle());
              middleContainer = new MiddleContainer();
              bottomContainer = new BottomContainer(model.getBundle());
              infoPanel.setVisible(false);
              container.setLayout(new BoxLayout(container, BoxLayout.Y_AXIS));
              container.add((Container) topContainer);
              container.add((Container) middleContainer);
              container.add(infoPanel.getContainer());
              container.add((Container) bottomContainer);
         protected void dispose() {
              super.dispose();
         public final void showGui(boolean visible) {
              super.showGui(visible);
              topContainer.setVisible(true);
              middleContainer.setVisible(true);
              bottomContainer.setVisible(true);
    }It appears that all the components (e.g. BottomContainer, TopContainer etc)
    which extend Container are transparent but I'm not able to replicate it with a simpler class (the panels are always opaque in simpler setup).
    Has anyone seen this before (as I mentioned above, this only happens when I set my config for Windows XP Pro to 'Windows XP Style' in the Control Panel).
    Help much appreciated

  • After I connected my hard disk to a friend's windows system all my files have been converted to .ink files and do not open....what do i do? They had important content

    after connecting my hard disk to a windows laptop all my files have somehow converted to .ink files and are not accessible.....what do i do?

    What do you mean by "all files", surely only one category of files got their default open program changed.
    Choose the affected files, right click on an individual file, and "open with",...change to default program.
    For a group, right click > show info > open with > change ALL
    If more than one group of files has had its default opening program changed, a time machine roll-back would be the easy option. Do you have a TM backup?

  • New Window from "FILE- NEW-WINDOW" duplicates all the currently open tabs in the new window. I want new window with just the "Home" tab please?

    Running Firefox 3.6.13 on 64Bit Win7.
    I like to group tabs on a topic in a window, and when the tabs get to be too many, or a new topic, I do FILE->NEW-WINDOW and expect a new window with just one default (Home) tab. Instead I get a new window with ALL the tabs of the first window.
    I have checked all the Options I could find. Nothing helped. I CAN make a new Window with just one tab if I right-click a link and say "Open in NEW Window".

    A new window should only open with the home page(s).<br />
    If you see differently then you need to check your extensions.
    Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • How do I open with one click all the windows that I have been minimized? When I right click on the lower bar Firefox icon, I only see the option to close all windows.

    It is used to be that I could right click on the Firefox icon on the toolbar at the bottom of the screen and I would then be given the option to open all windows. Now I only see the option to close all windows. The ability to open all windows is very useful. Have you eliminated this capability? It was a very helpful feature because I often have more than 15 windows minimized at one time. On a regular basis I like to open them all and keep only the ones that I still need. I know that it is possible to see the name of each window that is minimized by moving my cursor over the Firefox icon, but this does not provide enough information. So I have to open each window one at a time to look at it and then decide to close it or keep it - this is a frustrating, time-consuming process. Is there another way to open all the minimized windows at the same time, instead of one at a time?

    A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
    Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • All windows/tabs aren't opening from last session, even with setting checked. What's wrong?

    For a while now in Safari, if I have to close out the browser or restart my Mac for some reason, my previous tabs in Safari are not loading when I re-open Safari. I went online this week and did a change in Settings to where it would open up the option again in Safari to allow me to check "Reopen windows from last session", however, even with this selected, it did not re-open my tabs just now. This is such an unnecessary frustration and hassle. Can anyone please help?
    Oh, and the "Reopen last closed session" and "Reopen all windows from last session" is grayed out and unelectable if I try to bring them back that way in History.

    Thank you Linc! I did do what you suggested, and it did work.
    I noticed though (because I tried to close/re-open Safari several times to make sure it would consistently load my previous pages, that when I close the window but not the program) that I can "restore my previous session" or "last closed session" under the History menu if I merely close the window, but not the app/program although it doesn't automatically reload them; but, if I close the whole Safari app/program, when I re-open Safari it does reload all of my pages. I guess I'm writing that in case it helps someone else, but it can be confusing, and may be where my issue originally started.
    Okay, another thing is, when I look in Safari preferences now (after your suggested changes), Safari doesn't give me the option of "Open new windows with previous session". Does that matter, I guess, if my previous pages/session are/is loading? It doesn't seem to make sense that that preference is missing in Safari now, but my pages reload. Just some musings. No rush to reply. I'm new to Mac, but I do like to understand how things work.
    Thanks again!

  • How do I set Safari to prompt before closing multiple tabs OR reopen all of the closed tabs when when I relaunch the application?  The "Reopen all windows from last session" is unselectable.

    How do I set Safari to prompt before closing multiple tabs OR reopen all of the closed tabs when when I relaunch the application?  The "Reopen all windows from last session" is unselectable.

    It would seem if your choose "Show my windows and tabs from last time" '''''and''''',
    *when you last closed Firefox, you had no web site open (just a blank tab), that it would open just that blank tab
    *when you last closed Firefox, you had one or more tabs/web site open, that would allow you to "Restore Previous Session"
