DartaGuard doesn't start apply process

Hello everyone!
I suffer problem with deploying DataGuard on our infrastructure (Oracle 11R2 Database (no RAC or ASM) + SLES 11.2 OS)
I was trying to configure it reading this instrcution: http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/11g/data-guard-setup-11gr2.php
But now my apply process doesn't start.
On the standby server:
SQL> select max(sequence#) from v$log_history;

SQL>
SQL> SELECT RECOVERY_MODE FROM V$ARCHIVE_DEST_STATUS WHERE DEST_ID=2;

on the primary one:

MAX(SEQUENCE#)
23
SQL>
SQL> SELECT RECOVERY_MODE FROM V$ARCHIVE_DEST_STATUS WHERE DEST_ID=2;

SQL>
alert_stb.log ending is:

How do I fix a initializing problem with my macbook pro? I only get to the blank screen with the apple logo and the "processing something" sign... it just doesn't start the system....
    Please help
    Marcelo

If there is no loading bar, it's usually a problem with a third party kext file in OS X itself.
You can press the power button down to force a hardware shutdown, then reboot holding the shift key down on a wired or built in keyboard, this will disable them and you go around and update your third party software.
Gray, Blue or White screen at boot, w/spinner/progress bar
Also take this time to backup your users files off the machine if possible.
    Most commonly used backup methods
Sometime that won't work and you need to do more

  • Doesn't start when starting as administrator. Error Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system.

Update firefox, it asked me to update flash, I tried to update flash but it said I had to close firefox. A box came up and said the Flash install would continue when I closed firefox. I closed all firefox windows and no update of flash occurred. I tried relaunching firefox but got the "Doesn't start when starting as administrator. Error Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system." message. I rebooted the system, no improvement. I tried to run firefox as administrator and got the same message. Either I find a fix or I won't be able to use firefox and will have to go back to ie.

  • When i double-click the mozilla icon, it doesn't start. In the task manager i noted that the process "firefox.exe" appears and desappear after 5 seconds. The problem remains in mozilla safe-mode, but not in windows safe-mode. Thks!

Yesterday i installed the firefox 6.0 on my windows 7 computer. When i double-click the mozilla icon, it doesn't start. I opened the task manager and noted that the process "firefox.exe" appears and desappear after 5 seconds. I tried to start mozilla in safe mode but the problem remains. The only way to use mozilla in my computer is restarting the windows in safe-mode. Last thing: i already tried to reinstall the program. Please help me!

I'm also using Windows 7 on a Lenovo U310 laptop.

  • Xinit randomly doesn't start [solved]

Recently I ran into a strange problem with xinit;  unfortunately there's not much I can say about it.  Basically, when I try to start X with xinit/startx, my laptop just hangs on a black screen.  I can't change ttys, magic Alt-SysRec keys don't work.  I am forced to hard reset.  This happens randomly; after a few times, xinit will proceed normally.  Needless to say, this process is tedious and risky (I'm afraid of file system corruption due to the hard reset).  I have nothing to go on to fix or diagnose this problem.  Any ideas?
For what it's worth, some information that may or may not help diagnose the problem.  My .xinitrc:
    #!/bin/sh
    # ~/.xinitrc

    [ -f ~/.xprofile ] && . ~/.xprofile

I'm also seeing the cursor appear, though not always.  Usually it's a black screen, but sometimes the cursor shows up and is responsive for a moment or so before freezing.  This time, I had to try about 5 or 6 times before X would start properly.
Here's my journalctl for one of the failed session; it doesn't seem to show any problems, but I'm shooting in the dark at this point

  • VMWare doesn't start after kernel update

    Hello,
I've just updated my kernel to 3.10.0-997-generic. After that VMWare Player doesn't start anymore.
I've tried to run patches and different solutions I found in google, but it didn't worked yet.
This is the log of my last attempt.
    Thanks in advance

There's plenty of info about this one the forums if you do a search. The gist: intel_pstate replaces acpi_cpufreq. It doesn't use the usual governors, it has two internal ones - powersave and performance. There's no reason to not use powersave all the time. If you want to learn more, like I said, just do a search.

  • W701ds doesn't start

    A tricky case:
I've just replaced the main screen from the W701ds, and when I try to start the laptop, it doesn't start.
Just the led power light for two seconds but it doesn't go into the BIOS and dies. The screen always in black.
If I try to restart the laptop with the I/O button, it doesn't work at all (dead), not even the power lights.
To try to "enable", I have to remove the battery and unplug the cord from the AC power. Then,  the cycle repeats... the led power light for two seconds but it doesn't go into the BIOS and dies.
    Anyone with a similar problem?
    Thank you

Sorry to hear about all the problems you're having with that laptop, fjdiazal. The current problem sounds like the power supply is being overloaded, or the power supply or cable is bad, or you have a static electricity problem, or perhaps CMOS is scrambled. Make sure that all peripherals are disconnected from the laptop. I don't know whether there are any fuses in the machine that would apply to this problem.
So it could be a number of things, but here's something that's simple to try:
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/W-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Laptop-won-t-boot-and-can-t-even-get-into-BIOS...
If the battery is in good condition and fully charged, and the machine still won't boot when connected to battery only, then that rules out the power supply.
    If you search for:
      laptop won't start
within the forum, you'll find a number of other suggestions to try, plus other users will probably chime in with their own suggestions. We have a lot of users here who are very good at diagnosing these types of problems. This is about the time when lead_org shows up in the forum from Australia, so he might have some suggestions.
Another thing to try is to reinstall the old display. You might also look for damage to the display cable or connector. Hopefully, you're using proper anti-static procedures when changing displays. Also, if you've worked on the fans in any way, make sure that their cables are still connected, otherwise the fans won't spin up and many laptops will do exactly what you're describing.
    Anyway, best of luck.
P.S. - Once you press the laptop's power button to turn it on, within two seconds, BOTH fans should turn on at least briefly. At least, that is what happens with my W700, which is very similar to your W701ds. This can be hard to detect, so I tore off two 6-inch-long half-inch-wide pieces of Kleenex tissue, and draped a piece over the edge of the laptop and in front of each exhaust vent, and you can see the tissue being blown by the fan being turned on:
If EITHER fan does NOT turn on, then the machine will exhibit the exact behavior that you're describing.
So, a fan that HAS FAILED can cause exactly what you're seeing.
And a fan that is in the PROCESS OF FAILING can cause exactly the crashing behavior you described earlier.
So it's possible that a dying fan could cause BOTH of the problems that you have observed. Note that the LEFT fan is the CPU fan, and the RIGHT fan is the GPU fan.

  • S.O.S. !!! system (tiger) doesn't start aymore

Hi! Can anybody help me please?? It's a bit of a story but maybe there are details that help you solve my prob...??
I'm ichat/isight user for more than two years now. I had all sorts of malfunctions but what's happening now's never been there before AND can't be fixed by restarting, unplugging, restarting whole system etc.
    OK, this is what's happened:
-> unplugged isight from my powermac (g5) to use on powerbook G4 (as I've done succesfully before). on G4 I got ichat running after plugging in isight, then clicked "camera" symbol to check if it runs properly. The camera gave me one short glance and then froze and after that ichat completely hung up. I've shut it down (applealtesc) -> didn't show as shut (little black arrow underneath programm-sign). I had to put the G4 on standby and then log in again before the programme would shut down. I've done it twice and after the second time my G4 doesn't come back anymore at all.... :((( It only shows the grey apple and the spinning wheel (grey dots) for ages! I've taken isight away and everything (mightymouse) but still NO CHANGE!!! No matter how long I wait - My whole system never comes back!!! BUT - I'm very lucky to have my power Mac with ichat running on it properly --- as I thought.... Now, THIS REALLY KILLS ME!!! I plugged camera in again, started ichat on G5... same sh** like on G4! Ichat won't close down anymore no matter what I do!!!I've done complete restart of system... NO CHANGE!!! What have I done wrong???? Can anybody help me - please???
    edit:
Just installed ichat update on G5. Was funny again, since ichat wouldn't let system close down and do restart. I had to press the button - which I hate! Feels so - er- violent! NOW ichat+isight work again properly.
    BUT!!!
Can anybody tell me how to get my G4 powerbook running again??? I'd like to install the ichat update there as well, think that'll fix my problmes there - but before that I have to get into my system again... ;( No matter what buttons I press or how often I remove the battery plate - The system doesn' t start!!!! I get the greyish screen with spinning dots-wheel and then after a while I get a blue screen without ANYTHING on it no mouse arrow or any menue. WHAT CAN I DO?? There's important stuff on it I haven't done backups from yet! (it's always like that, in't it?)

Thanks for the status report, Ursula!

Congratulations, Ursula!!! You got your PowerBook running. I understand that you are still working on the restoring the settings, data files, and applications, but thanks for sharing the great news. Well done!
[I leave this post for your (and other readers') possible use while you finish.]

Based on what you told Ralph and me in our text chat, my guess is that whatever caused your son's user session to crash is what is also crashing your G5 Finder when you attempt to copy it. Your son's User folder was probably locked by OS X when the PowerBook crashed while he was using it. I think you are doing the correct thing by moving only the important files from his (locked) PowerBook User folder.
Once you get all your son's most important files moved, I suggest you try moving one of the unlocked User folders to your G5 drive. You may be able to move the User folders (other than your son's locked one) to your G5 so you will have backups for those users.
You can try this by moving one entire User folder (not the "Users" folder with all Users inside) by option-dragging it into the folder you want in your G5's hard drive finder window. If that one works, other unlocked User folders may work, too.
Because your PowerBook had insufficient disk space for a reinstall, you were forced to interrupt the reinstall process twice. Therefore, your PowerBook may not respond to either reboots or reinstalls, even after you free up 10GB - 25GB (or even more) of disk space on your PowerBook.
If your PowerBook does not respond to your planned actions, and if you want to try one more thing before you take the PowerBook to an Apple Technician, my best suggestion is that you erase and "zero" the disk using Disk Utility. (Disk Utility Help will tell you how to do this.) Use the "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" format setting, and select the "Zero Out Data" setting in the "Security Options" pop-up.
You can perform the erase and zero either in the Target Disk Mode or by using the Disk Utility application on your PowerBook's "Install" DVD. Either way, it may take more than an hour to Zero the disk, but "zeroing" should get rid of whatever caused your son's session to crash. If you want more specifics about this, post back or contact me via iChat when I am online.
Once you have the disk erased, reinstall everything that you need using your PowerBook's "Install" DVD. After the install is finished and you restart your PowerBook, repair Disk Permissions ("Rights" auf Deutsch?). Then apply the Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo Update (PPC) that I linked in my first response above.
Follow the Combo Update with one more repair of Disk Permissions. If you get this far, you can reinstall your other necessary software apps and then restore the data you need from the backups you have.
If the above process does not work, your PowerBook may need to see the Apple Service Technician.
You told me in our chat that you work on very large files. Therefore, you will need to regularly perform the kind of Mac OS X Maintenance described in the "Maintenance" link in my first response above. I do a lot of large video and PhotoShop image editing. To keep my Mac running fast and reliably, I do the routine maintenance on a regular schedule, and I try to keep at least 35% - 50% of my startup disk free. I never let my 160GB startup disk get more than 75% full. I offer this info so you will know how important free space is in the Ma OS X startup disk. If you need more space, backup some files and remove them or add another disk drive, but do not let your startup disk get too full on any of your OS X Macs.
One final note: because you had to force a shutdown (hold in power button until the G5 turned off) on your G5 last night, you should do a safe boot on the G5 as soon as possible. You can find detailed instructions for Safe Boot from the "Maintenance" link in my first response above, but I will give you a short version here:• Restart your G5.
    • As soon as the startup chime sounds, press and hold the <shift> key.
    • Release the <shift> key when you see the spinning gear on the monitor.
    • Let the machine run until the desktop is visible. (In 10.4.8, you will be asked for your administrator password before you get the desktop.)
    • After the desktop and menu bar are visible, you should do a normal "Restart" to finalize all needed actions. Do not do anything other than restart while in Safe Boot mode or you risk leaving the Safe Boot actions unfinished.Once your Mac is restarted, you can return to your G5's normal routine maintenance schedule.
Let us know how things progress or if you need anything else.
    Jim

  • RT app doesn't start on power-up or re-boot

    Hi Again, Gang:
This one is stumping me.  I've finished a cRIO application, and am now in the process of getting it ready for distribution.  The RT part of the app runs fine when I upload it from the host PC.  When I set the app to run at startup from NV RAM, it doesn't run.  Well, actually, to make matters worse--it DID run ONCE!  This morning I powered the cRIO, then did other things for a while.  I later looked at the unit and saw the user LED was flashing the sequence that says it's working.
I've read through the troubleshooting stuff on the web site.  I've FTPd into the box and it looks like it's set up right.  The dip switches are all off.  I've waited for 10 mins to see if comes up after a while.  I've experimented with the FPGA upload settings to see if that's the issue.  (The RT won't get very far if the FPGA doesn't start)  Is it possible that something with the shared variable engine is holding it up?
I'm about out of ideas.  I really hope that someone can give me some!
    Thanks in advance!
    Roger

    hi!!
Have you got any solutions. it seems there some bugs in lv2010. we are facing similar problems. some times every thing works but after restart it shows some error(blinking of yellow LED on RT).some time variable are not being published .i am working with mutltiple target in a single project. i have tried all options like auto deploy variable(ON/OFF)
seperate libraries for each target eventhough applications is similar for all targets. Just shareing my experience(pain)

    Any help?
I tried to reinstall dependencies of xorg-server and mesa. And then I even went through with the whole system update which I postponed for a few weeks because of the KDE changes. Sadly even the whole system update didn't help.
Is it possible that any old config files can cause this?
    EDIT:
I tried kernel parameter "nouveau.modeset=0" but it didn't help.

Ok, I guess I solved it by reinstalling xf86-video-nouveau.
Funny business! Why did the upgrade to xorg-server 1.17.1 force me to remove it when it is still needed??
And why does that lead to mysterious error messages and segfault??
I discovered it accidentally when I stumbled upon the fact that the package was still installed on my newer x86-64 Arch installation despite being on xorg-server 1.17.1.
