Alright! I admit it, i have pure Darwin on my mac! But I have done numerous google searches and have not found any clear way to install a gui in Darwin. Can someone give me a link to a tutorial or something? I have seen a bunch of screenshots of Darwin with a gui, but no one told me how to actually have a gui! Any help appreciated!

Please help me use wine (Darwine) for StarEdit

I read the topic further down the page, but I just want technical support on using the wine application. I solely want this to run Staredit, because I've been unable to find any other way to run it. I've downloaded the disk image, and I followed the installation process: Dragging it into my "applications" folder. .
My friend tried running wine using Terminal, but he said it wasn't installed, so I tried again (drag the darwine folder to apps), but now I don't know what to do. I need step-by-step instructions for running StarEdit using Darwine. Please help!

10.4.7 Update Failure on G3: Starts up in Darwin

The computer, owned by a friend of mine, is a 5 year old G3 iBook (clamshell, teal colored, single USB, firewire, DVD drive). If anyone has any ideas, it'd be a great help. The first person to troubleshoot this computer didn't really know what they were doing, it seems.
I hear that things went thusly:
10.4.6 update to 10.4.7. Computer would get to login screen but the user couldn't log in. She had previously been set to auto-login. The person that helped her had her computer start up as a firewire disk so she could save her pictures. Then he did "something" and the computer would get as far as the grey Apple screen with the spinning circle. Where it would spin ad infinitum.
This is where I came in. I had her boot up in verbose mode and found a repeating message akin to the following:
"Cannot find root user account. Sleeping and retrying..."
Obviously not good. Booted up the Tiger Install DVD and tried repairing permissions and the disk. The disk was fine and the fixed permissions trivial. It did not help the issue.
We reinstalled 10.4, keeping her user files. The computer restarted properly and everything seemed to work.
She got home last night and updated her computer to 10.4.7 with the combo updater. When she rebooted she was taken to "A black screen that welcomes her into Darwin."
Does anyone have any idea what's going on?

No idea what's going on, but I did experience a very similar issue with a G3 iBook 500Mhz. Yours actually got further than mine, though. Mine would just get to a background image and never get to a login screen without booting in Safe Boot. Even then once logged in it would hang. So, reinstalled and going to just do a manual 10.4.6 download and install and tel it to ignore 10.4.7 update.

Macbook Pro boots to Darwin prompt after update

I updated my Macbook Pro using Auto Update this morning, and now I can only boot to a Darwin prompt. The computer would boot, go to the starting OS X screen, then straight to the prompt. If I exited the prompt, I would be taken to a user login screen (which would revert back to the prompt after an attempted login)
I checked the system log and it showed that SecurityAgent was crashing.
So, per the advice in this post:

I renamed the NetInfo Database, and reran the initial setup using the proper account short name.
However, now the computer goes to the gray timer circle before straight to the prompt, no Starting OS X screen.
The system log now shows the following:
loginwindow[66]: Login Window Started Security Agent
loginwindow[66]: AuthorizationRef doesn't have a username (<LoginAuthRefMgr: 0x336150>).\n
launchd: onoption repeating too quickly on port /dev/console, sleeping
I thought flushing the NetInfo Database would help, but apparently not.

I am having the exact same issue!!!! The problem started as soon as I updated to 10.5.4. I sent my computer off to Apple's Depot to be fixed. The 6 day turn around really slowed me down. After my MacBook Pro was returned I had a note from Service that my Logic Board was replaced and my 3rd Party RAM was not 'Apple Friendly.' The RAM is fine and in Perfect Working Condition. I am assuming that after the Apple Techs got to my RAM they did not proceed to replace my Graphics Card or the Inverter Board (the small cable that sends power to the monitor). I took my MacBook Pro out of the box, re-inserted my 3rd-Party RAM and the computer worked fine for 3 weeks. That's until Last Night I had a FireWire Drive Mounting issue and had to Hard Re-Start my system it was then that the Black Screen Issue started again. Again, your notes are EXACTLY the same issue I am now having! I have called Apple Support and they will now take my computer to service with 'White Glove Treatment.'
After reading your post I am convinced that this is a software Bug. Apple please update. As of now I cannot even startup my computer to check for updates! Also, I cannot afford to be without my system for another week!!

Computer will only start up to Darwin

I've got this problem where my computer will not start up in OS X; it instead starts right up into Darwin, and I haven't been able to figure out how to get it to start up into OS X again. Any ideas?

The previous poster's instructions are for resetting your Mac's NVRAM. That won't erase your hard drive, but it is a good idea to back everything up.
The easiest way to backup your hard drive would be to find a friend with a Mac and a Firewire cable. With both computers turned off, hook them together with the Firewire cable. Turn on your Mac while holding down the T key in order to boot into Firewire Target Disk Mode. This essentially turns your Mac into an external hard drive. Now, turn on your friend's Mac and when it gets to the Desktop, you'll see your Mac's hard drive there. Copy your files to his computer or burn them to optical media. After you've backed up your files, drag your hard drive to the Trash to eject it. Unplug the firewire cable and press the power button on your Mac to turn it off. Now you can begin troubleshooting your Mac.

Typing in all upper case is regarded and shouting here.
Presumably as you have posted in the OS X 10.7.x (Lion) area you are running this version of the OS on your iMac.
This will have iChat 6 on it.
This can use AIM, Jabber and Yahoo IDs within the app.
Apple IDS ending in @mac.com and iCloud issued @me.com and @icloud.com are also Valid AIM Screen Names.
If you use Googlemail and Enable "talk" in the products there you can then use your Google Mail ID as a Jabber ID (although it has it's own Add Account option in iChat)
Facebook has an option to Enable "Chat" which will give you a Chat ID variant on your name there and this can be used in iChat (or Messages) as a Jabber ID.
The Yahoo Account will only do Text chats.
It also has to be an actual ID registered at Yahoo.
Chats are then AIM to AIM or Jabber to Jabber or Yahoo to Yahoo.
So your Buddy will also need a suitable ID or Screen Name for the relevant service.

Hi! My name is Derek Turner and I have been hacked through a friend's email message to me which I opened unsuspecting any danger. Initially, he sent me an 'attention' or warning email with a link which I tried to open but it could not be opened, so I left it not knowing what it was all about at the time. Later, I received another email from him (probably the hacker) and opened a 'not very pleasant' web site. It did not twig with me at the time as I am a bit new to this type of thing but when I mentioned it to my wife she immediately said that I had been 'hacked'. By this time it was too late, and it infected all my email addresses! I would be grateful if you may know if there is software that I can use to clean up my email account and if there is anything for iPad minis that can prevent this happening in future? (Malware, Firewall?). I am also getting emails back that relate to the hacker and I cannot 'delete' them from my iPad, only on my PC! Any suggestions?

I don't think that can be solved by any advice the regular posters could post here.
I would go back to Apple and explain the situation (again).
I would also consider closing the account (Apple rarely seem to do this as accounts are never deleted but just closed).
I understand this may cause issues for things purchased in iTunes and the App Store which my include Restoring the OS at some point.

How do you use Find Friends from same account on multiple phones?

I have one itunes account with 3 iPhones. When I send an invite from one phone to another persons email (in my family), it says I can't accept request from the same person. Basically, it seems that all the phones are tied to one Find Friends itunes account. Can you use this app in the same family with same accounts?

I have a similar problem. I hope that Apple will offer a solution. It would appear to be possible because you can choose to see one of your other devices by signing in at me.com using your Apple ID and will be able to choose any of your devices and track it on a map. I'm a little disappointed that this is an issue but will remain optimistic that someone at Apple will wee these posts and provide an update.

Of course if you are both connected to the same iCloud account you have the same contacts - what did you expect?. The contacts live on the server and are read from there by the devices; so as you've both managed to sync your contacts up to iCloud they are now inextricably mixed. You can only delete your contacts by deleting individual ones, and doing that will delete them from your phone as well.
You can only unravel this by
1. In the iCloud contacts page at http://icloud.com, select all the contacts, click on the cogwheel icon at bottom left and choose 'Export vCard'.
2. Sign out of System Preferences>iCloud
3. Create a new Apple ID and open a new iCloud account with it for your own use.
4. Import the vCard back into the iCloud contacts page.
5. Go to http://icloud.com and sign in with the original ID. This is now his ID. Work through the contacts individually deleting the ones you don't want him to have. When done sign out and advise him to change his password.
6. Go to the new iCloud account and delete his contacts individually.
Of course if you have also been syncing calendars and using the same email address there are problems with doing this.

How can I send multiple App links (a la playlist) to a friend?

I have a list of Apps in iTunes. For the sake of argument, let's assume they're all free.
To send a link of an App to a friend, I use the "Send Link" (or "Tell a friend") option in iTunes for each App. The friend can then install each App by clicking on the URL etc etc
How can I do this for say 30 Apps?...all in one go?
Can you create a playlist of Apps to then email/share/export?
I have tried the same way as you do for songs, but it doesn't work. I can't drag an app into a playlist or folder. I have drag&&dropped the actual ipa files into email, but I'm sure there's a smarter way...
Any ideas?
I think this is a great way of bundling Apps in either an informal playlist friend-to-friend sharing way, or, even theme it in a more commercial way by recommending bundles ...e.g. when Travelling in a certain country (i.e. Apps for Maps & Hotels & Petrol Stations & Food etc etc)

You have desribed the way that I run my process. However, for subcontracting we must also put the PV into the PIR or the PPM creation will have no link from PV to Vendor and therefore it will not create a PPM.
In R/3 planning, we leave the PV blank in the PIR so the system will automatically choose the correct PV based on the validity dates. I would like to leave the PV blank in the PIR and have APO create PPMs for all Vendors that this material is extended to for each PV. But as far as I know this is not possible. Then APO planning can choose the correct PPM based on validity dates.

I recently sold my Mac Air to a friend, he wants to use iTunes Match, but it says he can't for another 40 days because it was attached to my account. How can I get that turned off so that he can use his account and turn on iTunes match.

I reecntly spold my mac book air,to a friend, when he tries to use itunes match it says the computer is registersed to another user and cannot be done for another 40+ days. How do i get that to turn off. I have unregistered it under my account.

You either have an incredibly complex computer setup or I think you are confusing terminology here. If you have iTunes set to share your library with others in your iTunes preferences then other computers in the area will see it as an item when they are running their iTunes and have it set to check for shared libraries. Your husband is probably seeing this when running iTunes on his computer. You can disable this sharing on your computer and/or he can set his not to pick up shared libraries.
By the way, an iTunes account is something you log into when you want to buy something from Apple. On your computer it is simply your iTunes collection or your iTunes application. So you need to turn off sharing in your iTunes application preferences.
Your husband is seeing "his" iTunes collection when running iTunes, but it is possible he doesn't have anything in it if it is a brand new computer.
