Dashboard Automation - Xcelsius 2008 Enterprise 5.7.0.0

Hi,
currently i'm working on a dashboard automation project where my exported dashboard should always pick up the XML from the folder it is currently located. Already set up everything but i have no clue how to dynamically set up the XML connection path. Therefor i would appreciate any ideas or direct solutions.

thank you for your answer. Did check the tutorial and it doesn't help me. Already set up a basic XML connection and i know how to deal with it. Maybe i wasn't precise enough:
I would like to use the same Dashboard generated as SWF over and over again. The location/path will change a lot but it always will read from the XML file which is always the same name and stored with the SWF in the same folder. The problem is that the path will be always different, so that XML file should be read dynamically from the folder the SWF file is stored inside of. Basically the XML path should be relative.

Hi,
Please guide me how to install Xcelsius 2008 ENTERPRISE on a Windows 2003 Server, where BOXI3.0 is installed.
When I installed Xcelsius 2008 Enterprise on a XP PC, after the install it is showing Xcelsius PRESENT 2008.

1.) Make sure there is no older version of Xcelsius installed on the system.
(uninstall old xcelsius installations and manually remove all xcelsius-related registry entries)
2.) Restart the system
3.) Install Xcelsius (SP1) with Admin-Account
4.) Make sure you entered the correct Enterprise serial
5.) Restart the system

Xcelsius 2008 Enterprise Chart Visualization Options - Sparkline Anyone?

While Crystal Xcelsius certain has an awesomeness factor, there seems to be a limitation when it comes to the variety of data visualization charting options available to use. If this product is supposed to be the "de-facto" dashboarding tool offered by BusinessObjects post the SAP acquisition, one would think they would make an effort to enhance the product to include the same level of dashboarding options as were previously available through older products recently phased out. For example, the variety of chart types to use is quite limited in Xcelsius 2008, whereas, Dashboard Manager, previously offered as part of the Business Objects Enterprise solution stack (XI R2 & R3), was much richer in terms of available charting types offered when constructing a dashboard, covering a host of business relevant subject and measurement areas within the concept of a catalogue of related objects. Crystal Xcelsius 2008 is the replacement offering, and holds its own for other reasons, like the interactive visualization of data, which no one can compete with in this space. However, with its limited charting options, it seems from reading the dev library and BOB-board that SAP/BusinessObjects is advising folks to create their own add-ons, i.e. their own charts which can be deployed and used as templates, thus, solving the problem. For those of us who are non-germane code writers in their day to day work, this option is not viable as it requires a modicum of software development practice to write Xcelsius add-on packages, much like the experience of using QWAAS which is comparable to ASP.NET coding vs. making the data connectivity to the dashboards from data feed types like a Universe or a relational database.
Having vetted my frustration, here is my ask...I would like to create a sparkline chart in Xcelsius -- I have a copy if you want to see what I am trying to describe, the image, just an example which I found on the web. The presentation of this chart type has a very "Xcesius-y" look and Feel to me so I thought I would ask the group a) interest in a topic thread on this forum related to sharing Xcesius add-on or related Source code files in an effort to maintain a sense of helpful product exploitation ala the Apple Apps open source platform concept. I need help with the Sparkline sooner rather than later so any help is greatly appreciated.

Unable to Preview the Old Version Dashboard in Xcelsius 2008 sp4 fp4.1

Hi,
Recently we updated the Xcelsius and Live office.
Previous Versions:
Xcelsius 2008 sp3 fp 3.6
Live office 3.1
Update Versions:
Xcelsius 2008 sp4 fp4.1
Live office 3.1 sp3 then sp5
So now i am using Xcelsius 2008 sp4 fp4.1 and Live office 3.1 sp5.
Operating System:Windows Vista sp2.
Problem is i am able to open old version of dashboards( which was developed using Xcelsius 2008 sp3 fp 3.6 & Live office 3.1) in new version (Xcelsius 2008 sp4 fp4.1 & Live office 3.1 sp5) but i am not able to preview the dashboards. Xcelsius is not able to generate the Swf.It's is not throwing any error but swf generation process is keep on going.
Note: We install same Service Packs & Fixed packs Windows 7.It's working fine.
Please help me.

Changing the behavior of a XCelsius 2008 Dashboard

Hello all,
i have a problem with the coded behavior of a dashboard in xcelsius 2008.
The main scene is:
there is an edit-field on the surface and a lot of checkboxes
The user enters an internal number into the edit and then klicks on an checkbox to start a crystal-report
this is the actual version and its ok: report starts and the entered number is given as a parameter to the report (via open-document)
But the new requierement is, that if the user has clicked several checkboxes (and on the surface you can see several checkmarks) to start several reports and then reenter the given number in the editfield, all previous checkmarks had to be cleared on the canvas.
I tried this in excel but i allways get a circular reference while trying to memorize the first number for a comparison with the next input.
Perhaps it is more logical problem, but as a beginner on xcelsius i dont know much about the possibilities of coding within the excelshhet - is it possible to use vba-scripting for this?
because if i use only formulas i can't solve this problem/requirement.
Can anyone help, please?

The reset-button is also in the Dashboard, but the idea was, that this action can be implemented, so that the user only has to insert numbers without clicking another element (the reset button) It was an idea of comfort to handle this implicitly.

Not able to see Data in Xcelsius 2008

Hi everyone,
My question is I am not able to see data in Xcelsius spreadsheet although I am able to connect to SAP BW and also able to see and select query but when I select Cross Tab Data in output Values it is not displaying in Xcelsius spreadsheet
System Info
Xcelsius 2008 Enterprise Trial Version SP 3.0
SAP BW 7.1 SP 6 ABAP and JAVA
Any help would be appreciated

Hi Rashid,
When you are using the BW conenction in Xcelsius you will not see any data in the spreadsheet at design time or at preview time.
To see the data you need to go SAP > Publish, then SAP > Launch to test the dashboard in the NetWeaver Portal as that is the only place where the data can be viewed.

Xcelsius 2008 - Life cycle management

All,
We have developed Xcelsius 2008 dashboards (by QAAWS) which are published in BO XI 3.0 Enterprise Infoview. How do we promote Xcelsius dashboard from development to production? Do Import wizard help on this?
Below are the workflow that I think about:
1) Create QAAWS in both development and production
2) Create dashboard in Xcelsius 2008 in development through WSDL URL created in QAAWS
3) Publish the report in BO 3.0 Infoview.
4) Through Import Wizard, import dashboard from dev to prod.
My question is how do we map the imported dashbaord in production to production WSDL URL.
Please let me know the above approach for Xcelsius 2008 life cycle management is correct.

Thanks Jon. So all I need to change Web Service URL from:
http://bodevserver:8080/dswsbobje/qaawsservices/queryasaservice
to
/dswsbobje/qaawsservices/FIAR?WSDL.
But how will this change to production server WSDL URL when this report moves to prod by import wizard?
Below is the work flow I did in QAAWS client:
1) Created 2 URL one for Dev and another for Prod
2) Created first URL in development through QAAWS client and deploy the same in prod by changing the prod server name.
For Dev --> http://bodevserver:8080/dswsbobje/qaawsservices/FIAR?WSDL
For Prod --> http://boprodserver:8080/dswsbobje/qaawsservices/FIAR?WSDL
I am still confused how these above 2 links helpful in Xcelsius to do life cycle managemnet without any mannual interpretation.

Xcelsius 2008 Fix Pack 3.4 (FP 3.4) installation error

Hi,
I have Xcelsius 2008 Enterprise FP 3 running on XP 32-bit with Office 2010 just fine.
However when I try to install FP3.4 I'm getting the error: "Xcelsius 2008 requires adobe flash player 9,151 or later". I've confirmed I've flash 10,2,153,1 installed.
Any ideas?

If you search this forum , you can find some threads dedicated to this issue related with compatibility with office 2010.
As of now Xcelsius 2008 (5.3.5.0 which is the latest one) does not support Office 2010. you can find a way out to install Xcelsius, but later you have to face issues functionality as well as performance wise and also when ever you try to install latest Fix Pack it will throw error because installer perform a check before installation. SP 4 is going to support office 2010 and also Crystal Dashboard Design 2011. As said above Ghost path is one of the many workaround.
So I would suggest you uninstall the 2010 Office and install office 2007.

BO 3.1 after Xcelsius 2008 installation

Hello everyone,
I have a problem with BO 3.1 environment after Xcelsius 2008 installation. When i try to open Webi reports in InfoView (which worked fine before the installation), "Cannot execute this operation: a valid license was not found (Error: INF)" message appears.
I have applied licence codes from partner's temporary license files (Xcelsius 2008 Enterprise license and BO 3.1 Enterprise license).
I tried to unistall Xcelsius to prevent Webi reports from crashing but after that CMS is not able to start. Actually Configuration Manager shows that it works just fine but there is not a possibility to log on to it.
Anyone have some suggestions regarding this issue
PS. my system is Windows 2008 Server.

However, reinstallation of Xcelsius didn't work for me and removing it only made things worse so now I have redone the whole BOXI 3.1 installation and things seems to work so far. It was only a demo server so it wont be to much hassle getting content back.

XCelsius 2008 - result file performance

Hi.
We have problem with performance of swf-file generated by Xcelsius 2008.
In Xcelsius 4.5 we designed dashboard. Exported swf-file works good and fast. But when we export this dashboard using Xcelsius 2008, the result swf-file works too slow. After changing parameters we waiting about 20-30 sec for charts changig.
Why so different perfomanse the same dashboard on two version of Xcelsius? Where is the problem?

I have never worked on the older version of Xcelsius so i would suggest if possible can you export the Excel file from the older version and develop new dashboard in 2008? you wont need to do too much as you will have the exported version of Excel model!

Xcelsius 2008 doesn't support excel links?

I'm building a dashboard with Xcelsius 2008 and my Excel sheet which I imported has a number of links to other Excel files - that is how the values are updated, from other Excel sheets. After adding a collumn graph component and setting it up appropriately, no collumns would show in preview mode. I added a speadsheet table component to see what was going on and all values are 0, that is why no collumns are showing. The values do, however, appear in the spreadsheet when in design mode as I wish they would in preview mode. I tried to export it and exporting yields the same results as preview mode.
I'm impressed because Crystal Xcelsius 4.5, which I had been using up to now, supports links in imported Excel files with no problems.
Is there any way to make Xcelsius 2008 honor the values as they should be, rather than setting all values taken from links to 0?

   1. Do you mean, excel embeded another excel file using "Data->Import External Data->Import Data" then choose "excel file"? From my side, i try this scenairo and the chart can present the mapped data properly. (may be my model is to simiple...)
   2. For your excel links, I am not sure where the problem is, but I am suggest that, you can build your standalone excel sheet with excel mapping first, then import the excel file to Xcelsius, in this cases, we can distinguish whether the problem comes from excel feature itself or Xcelisus integration with Excel.
   3. I also think about the cases you are using, may be you have multiple individual spreadsheets, and want to embeded into one excel file which will be used in xcelsius, also, when the data change in the sub excel sheets, the main excel sheets should also be updated accordingly. (Please correct me if there is sth wrong)
   But for excel links you are using, I saw some limitation:
   a) when you open the main excel sheet, the sub excel sheet will be "read only", so that user can not modify the sub sheet at the same time.
   b) when preview, or export to swf file, you can not update the excel links at run time when mapped excel file changes, there is no update option for excel links as far as i know.
   So, to meet the scenario, you can use Data connection feature called "Excel XML Map":
   The detail steps is similar with excel links, the differences is you are going to map xml file to excel range. (if you have already have a number spreedsheet in your hand, you can first save the spread sheet as xml format, then map the xml file to main excel). In this case, when user modify the xml file and save, you can refresh the mian excel file to get the updates at any time, also Xcelsius data connection provide connection called "Excel XML Map" so you can also refresh the maps at preview time and run time.

Once I have input the reporting services URL and select 'submit', a list of all my reports appear on the left hand side. The problem occurs when I select the 'Launch Report in Web Browser' button. When a new browser opens, the URL is trying to access the local host instead of the correct server.
Do any additional settings need to be updated?

Can Xcelsius 2008 Engage coexist on the same machine as SAP Crystal Dashboard Design?

I still have the requirement to maintain dashboards created with Xcelsius 2008 SP5. Will the install of SAP Crystal Dashboard Design: Departmental overwrite or disable the ability to run Xcelsius 2008 on the same machine?

Thank you for the reply. I am not sure I phrased the question very well, as I said in the post I am aware Personal Edition does not require viewing licenses. What I was asking was whether the 'internal business use only' clause in the EULA prevented dashboards built with Personal Edition from being placed on external company sites?
If anyone could provide an answer to this it would be greatly appreciated.

Xcelsius 2008 Dashboard thrugh NWBC

Dear All
We have the following environment.
1. SAP production Server - R3 Environment (No BW, No Open Doc)
2. We hae Crystal Report 2008 SP5
3. We have Xcelsius 2008
We developed couple of Dashboards using Xcelsius by directly connecting to R3 using Web services.
The Dashboards are woking fine.
Now we like to put these dashboards in the NWBC Custom Pages.
Using PFCG - we configured page layouts. However, We are not able to get those Dashboards into it. I alredy uploaded the Dashboards into SAP mime objects. (using SE80).
Searched to fine out and get some documetns but it does not match with the steps they have showned on it, hence not able to achive...
Can someone help me to get me the Steps to achive this. ( ECC 6.0 EHP5)

SAP NetWeaver BI Connections - Xcelsius 2008 - XI 3.1 Enterprise

Dear Xcelsius experts,
We would like to use "SAP NetWeaver BI Connections" connecting SAP BI Queries directly in Xcelsius 2008, we read in "Xcelsius2008_user_guide_en" that there is this new connection available.
Our Xcelsius 2008 is connected in a BO XI 3.1 Enterprise, but this connection is not available.
How to show and use this new connection type to read SAP BI queries directly ?

please find the list of products required to run the new BI NetWeaver Connection in Xcelsius:
Client:
Xcelsius 2008 SP2
NetWeaver Bex Clients greater 7.10 Patch 9.01 (this provides BEx open/save Dialoge infrastructure and more )
Server:
NetWeaver 7.00 Ehp1 SP5 (both ABAP and Java - configured for BEx Web Usage)
Please note that they are partly not released yet: Release date for SP5 is planned for End of September 2009.
