Dashboard font is huge

Hi,
After upgrading to Leopard, my dashboard font size is huge and exceeds widgets window. I've tried to delete dashboard cashe db, delete dashbord 'plist' files in Preferences.. but doesn't help. How can I change the font size of dashboard?
Thanks.

I had a similar problem, the font in the 'Stocks' Widget was extending over the background color and border of the application, making it look like they were just hanging in space. I fixed this problem by;
1) Removing all 3rd party widgets (after a fresh restart)
2) Because I use Linotype FontXplorer X to manage my fonts, I opened it up and went to Tools>Clean System Font Folders... and removed all excess fonts to a folder on my desktop.
3) I then also cleaned the system and application font caches from the same Tools folder.
This solved the issue and dashboard is now behaving normally, not crashing and not stalling.
I then re-added the removed fonts to my library again and Dashboard still works great. No more problems.
Hope this helps, it was a **** frustrating problem.

  • Fonts are HUGE now!

I was messing with my xorg.conf configuration, and thought I would try telling X what my display size was, so that it could compute the correct DPI setting for my display.
I have a 15.4" widescreen display running at 1680x1050, which comes out to roughly 131 dpi.  At this setting, all of my fonts are huge (by huge, I mean 10pt fonts look like they are 20pt)!  I tried putting in fake display size values to get 100 dpi, 96dpi, etc.
Here is what I learned.  Almost no OS uses the correct dpi for the display.  Apparently Windows always uses 96 dpi, regardless of what resolution the display really is.  X also defaults to 96 dpi.  A few distros actually set the dpi correctly, and the first thing people complain about is that the fonts are too big.
Anyhow, I think I am going to stick with the default 96 dpi setting, since it's what I'm used to.  But if any of you ever see X with abnormally large fonts, check what dpi setting is being used.
By the way, the relevant setting in xorg.conf is DisplaySize, in the Monitor section.  Here's the syntax:
    Section "Monitor"
DisplaySize 410 318 # Size (x,y) of the screen, in millimeters
    EndSection

beniro wrote:Also, if you the width/height you entered in millimeters is correct (You're using a fairly standard 19" or 20" monitor???) and your resolution really is 1680x1050, your dpi is actually: 102 (from left to right) by 84 (top to bottom)...which will give you...a skewed view of the world.
He said it in his first posting--15.4" widescreen, so it's probably a 16:10 screen, not 4:3. So his numbers seem correct to me. Many laptops have screens with 130dpi and more, nowadays ...

  • Dashboard fonts changed...can't restore

I did a search on this issue, but didn't find any answers that helped me, so here goes:
One day about a week ago, the fonts used on Dashboard Widgets changed. Without prompting, the font that was used to display "Dictionary Thesaurus" changed to a more basic, almost Helvetica-like font.
I also noticed the fonts I liked to use for the Stickies Widget, Marker Felt, wouldn't show up. Actually, I tried highlighting the Stickies text, clicking on the "i," and selecting all of the different fonts the Stickies Widget offers, and nothing changes. I can't select a different font for anything in the Dashboard.
I've Shut Down, started up, Restarted, Repaired Permissions (twice), no luck.
Is there a "reset" or a preference/.plist file somewhere that I can purge/delete? Is there a way to "start over?" Granted, everything in the Dashboard works just fine, but it concerns me that all of a sudden I can't customize the look of Widgets.
    Help! Anyone?

    It's the strangest thing...
My iBook battery died almost a month ago. It was the Apple Replacement Battery Program batt that I got about last May (almost a year; the battery lasted only 9 months...that's a subject for a different topic!).
After resetting the PMU, fiddling around with the firmware, zapping PRAM, etc. to no avail before resigning to the probability that the battery was dead, took my iBook to an Apple Store. They graciously replaced my battery; I was *this close* to doing a reinstall of Tiger. Not based solely on this Widget behavior, but 'cuz of other things.
So after my new battery is calibrated/charged, guess what?
Dashboard fonts go back to normal.
I have no idea if somehow the Dashboard's stubbornness had anything to do with my battery or not...I'm glad I can finally change the Stickies' font, and Dictionary|Thesaurus finally looks like it did when I fired up Dashboard for the 1st time.
I see you have an iMac; I'm not sure what the deal is there. For awhile, I thought it might be the RAM battery (PMU battery? Forget what Apple calls it...sorry, was in the world of PC's for 10+ years not by choice), but things are running as per normal now.
Go figure. I'm making this thread "answered," at least for me; if someone else can come up with some help for that person with the iMac, I'm sure they'd be grateful.

  • Dashboard fonts not displaying correctly

Hello. In Dashboard, the default Apple widgets (Weather,Calendar, etc.) have outlined white fonts instead of filled in fonts. I think it's a problem with the Helvetica Neue font, but I have resolved all my duplicates and the problem still exists. What else could be the problem?
    Thanks

This did the trick for me. Thanks D Dog!

  • Why is the font so huge when printing from the internet?

Not a huge deal, but I'm using too much paper to print, for example, copies of merchandise orders that are downloaded from the internet.  For some reason, it prints this type of document with a huge font.  Regular printing that I generate myself, is fine.  What causes this?

    Hi,
What is the format of the downloaded files ? Or you print directly from webbrowser ? Please supply more information.
    Regards.

  • Incorrect font display in dashboard = font problems everywhere?

My G4 Silverdoor been hanging and freezing A LOT! Sometimes, several times in a day. When I run Disk Warrior, the most frequent error is incorrect font encoding. I run all of the repairs, and the problems reappear.
In Dashboard, several widgets have incorrect appearance for their bold titles (e.g., Systran tranlation & AccuWeather), so they look like hollow fill with white strokes. Re-installing the fonts does not remedy the problem. Re-installing the system does not remedy the problem. What is probaly wrong, and how can I fix it?

One other thing, perhaps a Finder problem of sorts. I was often freezing while trying to stream Flash content. When I ejected my ohter three internal drives, the freezes ceased. Does this indicate a problem with one of the drives (they test out okay), or some other aspect of my setup?

  • Dashboard font problem

    Hi there
The other day the font on my dashboard stickies changed by themselves and so did the dictionary. clicking the info icon on a sticky reveals that they should still be marker felt but its a standard sans serif font (not sure which) and it stays the same whichever font i try to switch too. Dictionary is screwed up fontwise too (haven't checked other widgets). I thought the problem might go away after updating to 10.4.7 but it's still wrong.
    Any suggestions?

If the new account works OK, then there must be something wrong with your current settings.
You can try deleting the stickies preference file [you will loose your stickies data!]:
    ~Library/Preferences/widget-com.apple.widget.stickies.plist
You can also delete the Dashboard preference files:
    ~Library/Preferences/com.apple.dashboard.client.plist
    ~Library/Preferences/com.apple.dashboard.plist

  • Email fonts turn huge if I choose any system font except default! OS6

I'm running OS6 on an AT&T Torch 9800 - I understand this is not a new problem but I wonder if anyone has run across some kind ot tweak to help.  If I attempt to choose a different system font, everything looks ok except the fonts in the emails triple (or more) in size.  Even if I shrink the system font to teeny, the emails stay huge.  The only way to get my emails back to looking normal and fitting on my screen is to go to the font selection function and choose "Restore Default".  If I keep the default font and just increase the size one or two notches, I'm fine, but the minute the font is different, the emails are so huge they are illegible.
I know this is not a horrible thing but it'd be fun to look at a different font for awhile and it's impossible given this little "feature".  Anyone find a solution?  I would love to email RIM about this but sadly they seem not to want to hear from us...

  • Display font is huge, how do i resize back to normal?!

the font on my screen is huge! i already tried "system preferences, universal access, zoom off" and it hasn't changed back, and the zoom IS off.
does anyone know how i can change it back to normal??
    thanks!
    P.S

Hey, ive been on mac since the 8 systems i think, and i remember there being an option on font size, can you tell me if its your folders and icons that have the large text, everything you see, or just your internet browser? Also, i'm assuming you have a macbook pro, and depending on the size of the screen, (im guessing 15.4), your resolution should be set to 1440 x 900, that is the standard resolution that comes on your computer. again, assuming that its a 15.4 inch macbook pro, but either way 700x480 is very small for the screen size. And i just tried setting my resolution to what yours is, and it does make it look like everything is zoomed in. So try setting your resolution to 1440 x 900, and if that doesnt work get back to here, and ill tell you what to do if its just the fonts.

When you disable LayoutManagers (setLayout(null)) you yourself have to make sure everything has the proper size and location.
This is mostly thought of as BAD, as you'll leave no room for i18n or resizing.
The ... is a JButton "feature" to show that it's text does not fit (although the dots themselves may not fit).
All the advice given in other posts assume you have a LayoutManager (setPreferredSize() etc.), which you don't.

Have you tried Command - (that's the key to the right of 0)?
If that isn't it try Control - Command - down arrow key. You can turn the zoom feature on and off in System Preferences - Universal Access - Seeing.

  • Extremely inconsistent font sizes--tiny on page and huge in textboxes

    Hello,
I am running Firefox 23 on Slackware Linux. My computer is an ultrabook with an relatively small, high resolution screen, so I have had to set a high dpi (190) to get font sizes rendered appropriately. The value of 190 was obtained by calculating the proper value for my screen size and resolution (11.3 inches; 1900 x 1080), and in most circumstances, everything looks good.
However, in Firefox, my fonts are extremely tiny. I have installed an add-on No-Squint to set the default zoom level of every page to 170 %, which works well. However, this results in normal (or even rather small) page fonts, while the fonts in textboxes (like password fields, select-some-value boxes, etc.) are enormous. It seems like the fonts in the textboxes are respecting my dpi value, while the rest of the fonts on the page are not. This means that when the page is zoomed in, the textbox fonts look huge.
What I need is a way to make Firefox either respect my system dpi everywhere or nowhere. I have tried changing the values for layout.css.devPixelsPerPx, and it makes no difference.
    Thanks for any help.

I just noticed you have the older zoom setting of remembering zoom level for the current tab rather than by the site. I'm not sure how that interacts with NoSquint.

  • Strange Dashboard Widget Fonts, HELP

So a couple of months ago my Dashboard fonts suddenly became "strange." It seems as if the Helvetica Neue font became jagged and blocky. It's quite ugly and I'm not sure what's wrong.
I checked up on the Helvetica Neue font in the Font Book and it displays "jagged" there as well. Any solutions?
