Dashboard for pre-10.4 machine

I am using a 10.3 OS now. Does anyone know of an installer for Dashboard?

Hi jetreader,
Tom Gewecke's advice is seconded here! I have been using Yahoo widgets for some time now and have been very pleased. I have an older machine and they run great on my G3 350 + 400 with no problems.
I haven't had any problems yet and there is a great selection to choose from.....
Give them a try....I think you'll like them!
good luck,

  • Why is 4GB of RAM impossible for pre-santa rosa machines?!

ok, i know that older MBP's have an Intel 945PM chipset and i also know about the whole memory overlapping thing. BUT if the Intel chipset can handle 4GB of RAM is this a software issue or a hardware issue? and since OS 10.4.10 is a 32-bit system does that mean if i were to upgrade to leopard, which is 64-bit, this whole RAM issue would fix itself?
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   2.33GHz CPU, 2GB RAM

hey buddy didn't you read the top? i know about the memory overlapping thing! if the board can handle 4 gigs and the cpu has no problem with it. then why can't you have 4 gigs?
"a number of items that must be stored in physical RAM space, and when RAM reaches 4 GB, there is some overlap. "
-Inside the MacBook Pro’s 3GB RAM limitation
ok, well what is setting the number of items that must be stored in the physical RAM space? and is it possible to assign these functions a different space? instead of being between 3GB and 4GB, can't you move it to 4GB to 5GB?

  • Failing to assemble Downloaded Pre-built Virtual Machine for  SOA Suite and BPM Suite 11g

    Hello,
I checked the download checksum of the files downloaded for Pre-built Virtual Machine for  SOA Suite and BPM Suite 11g ( Pre-built Virtual Machine for SOA Suite and BPM Suite 11g ) and they all match checksums.
however, when I try to assemble them with 7zip, I get a corrupt error message.  I have tried downloading with Chrome and Internet Explorer.  I have also tried assembling the 7zip files different ways.
Is there anything else I should try?
Running on Windows 7, 64 bit machine.  (with lots of disk space).
Is there any other way to get the files?
    thank you.

    thanks for the response
I guess I will have to do that as well.
However, it defeats the speed with which can ramp up with the toolset;  thus slowing my time I can allocate to learning it...

  • Installing Pre-built Virtual Machine for Oracle WebCenter Portal error

    Hi,
I am trying to install the Pre-built Virtual Machine for Oracle WebCenter Portal: Framework 11gR1 (11.1.1.4.0) onto a Laptop (500G HDD 8G Ram) running Windows 7 to learn.
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/webcenter/portal/downloads/owcs-portalfw-vbox-284132.html
I want to run in a VirtualBox Linux setup etc.
I have downloaded all the files except the REAVDD-HOL-WC.ovf which would not download so I saved in browser to the same directory etc.
I have set the preferences in Virtual Box to the same directory where I have downloaded the files to but when I Import Applicance and select C:\users\Tony\Virtual Box VMs and select the defaults and import I get an error box stating:
Failed to import appliance C:\Users\Tony\VirtualBox VMs\REAVDD-HOL-WC.ovf.
Could not open the medium storage unit 'C:\Users\Tony\VirtualBox VMs\REAVDD-HOL-WC-disk1.vmdk'.

Anybody got any idea how to fix this?

I've imported this appliance (and others) on Windows 7 32-bit on a Lenovo W500, on an iMac, and on a MacBook. The one error you should encounter during the "import appliance" step is a path error related to shared folder (the canned/hard-coded path in the ovf file points to a place that is not likely to exist on your computer, so just comment out the D:\TEMP\Host path, or make it for that matter).
    <!--SharedFolders-->
    <!--SharedFolder name="Host" hostPath="D:\TEMP\Host" writable="false" autoMount="true"/ -->
    <!-- /SharedFolders-->
You can alter system set memory_target=300M scope=both and set your VM memory to 2.5GB and everything will run fine (using the vmctl script to start up what's needed). The "1" option is all that is needed for the tutorial shown in the documentation. If you run the admin server, you will see things run a good bit slower. Part of the tutorial assumes you know about UCM and how to take the UCM content in the sample files and upload those into the repository. You can delete the file already loaded and then do a single file upload to "re-load" the various directories/folders for the menu/home/etc. Upload the png and other files into the same folder (menu.html, menuBanner.png, etc. all go into the same Menu folder). It's not worth the time to set the bulk upload because you have to go out into UCM and dig around the admin settings, stop/restart, and so on. You can also use the contentadmin user (welcome1) to do the file upload.

  • Pre-Configured Virtual Machine with OBIEE 11g available?

    Hi,
does Oracle offer a pre-configured Virtual Machine with OBIEE 11g? I found an old Virtual Box Image with 10.2..., but nothin newer.
    Thanks for your help.
    Christoph

    Hi,
I don't suppose this is available yet is it? I notice Oracle offer quite a few downloadable images for Virtual Box now, but OBI isn't included in any that I could see.
    Thanks,
    Mike

  • Webcenter PS3 pre-build virtual machine question

    Experts,
I have following queries regarding VM for web center
    1) What are the limitation of using pre-build virtual machine for development/testing environment compared to standard installation?
    2) What are the webcenter features not supported by pre-build WC VM but is supported in standard installation?
I am thinking of using pre-build WC VM for development and testing environment. So, want to know the limitation before using it.
    Appreciate any help on this.
    Ashish
P.S - Standard installation is installing DB (using RCU), weblogic & webcenter suite.

The pre build is very good for demonstration purpose. You can do some development on it but i don't think this is recommended.
The pre build machine is just a plain installation with a DB, weblogic and webcenter suite. If you create your own VM with the same software, than there is not much difference between the pre build machine.
If you don't plan on using a real server for your development purpose than you can use the pre build machine. I don't know if it is allowed so maybe you should check this with Oracle. There isn't a real difference between an installation that you will do an the pre build machine to technicaly, you could use it... Licence wise... you should check it with Oracle.

  • ACS 5.3 Dashboard - Any way to create Dashboard for all users?

I'm at the point of setting up admin access for engineers needing to have insight into the operations and status of our ACS 5.3 systems.
I'm curious if there's any way to create a Dashboard that can be applied to all admin user accounts? (perhaps a custom role?)
I've been able to customize the dashboard for my own account to show what is most relevant, but am unable to figure out how to apply this layout and setup to all other users.
Basically, I have a number of folks that need to see this data, but that I can't exactly count on to setup their own dashboards to show the important details.  If there were some way to build a tab/dashboard/portlet, etc (whatver it may be) and have it apply to all users, that would save me TONS of work so that I don't have to login to each person's account and set things up for them.
For example, I want to have all users see a tab/dashboard that shows the applet "Live Authentications", but with the protocol already configured to display TACACS vs the default which is RADIUS.
    Any thoughts?
    -Chris

    Chris,
I see you are looking for read-only access to Dashboard. Currently there is no way to force all Admins to use same Dashboard and all admins will have full control of the Dashboard.

    ~JG

  • I bought a new external hard drive for backups, but time machine won't do a full back up.  I think it is remembering backing up onto previous external hard drives, which I don't own anymore.  How do I do a new full backup?

I bought a new external hard drive for backups, but time machine won't do a full back up.
I think it is remembering backing up onto previous external hard drives, which I don't own anymore.  How do I do a new full backup?
When I bought the new (used) iMac, I also bought an external hard drive for backups.  It worked fine, but my husband stole it.
Then I bought a new external hard drive (Seagate) and it worked fine for three weeks, then died.
So I just got a new external hard drive, which was put together from an internal hard drive and a hard drive enclosure.
Time machine did the first backup today, and it should have taken 9 hours like it did on the previous first time full back up.  Instead, it took 30 minutes.  That can't be right.  I want to start over and do a full backup to make sure everything gets onto my new external hard drive, but I can't figure out how to do that.  Please help.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below to select it:
    tmutil compare -E
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
The command will take at least a few minutes to run. Eventually some lines of output will appear below what you entered.
Each line that begins with a plus sign (“+”) represents a file that has been added to the source volume since the last snapshot was taken. These files have not been backed up yet.
Each line that begins with an exclamation point (“!”) represents a file that has changed on the source volume. These files have been backed up, but not in their present state.
Each line that begins with a minus sign (“-“) represents a file that has been removed from the source volume.
At the end of the output, you’ll get some lines like the following:
    Added:
    Removed:
    Changed:
These lines show the total amount of data added, removed, or changed on the source(s) since the last snapshot.

I had files stored on a hard drive that were not on my Mac. I used the hard drive for my first Time Machine back up, but it was not enough hard drive space to finish. Now those stored files are gone. Is there any way I can recover them?  No, they were not part of previous Time Machine backups, and I have checked both the hard drive the documents were lost on and the new one that I now use for backups. Any suggestions would be helpful, as the lost files are old pictures that are gone forever. :[ Thanks!

    1. Yes, if both drives are formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
    2. Reformat the drives if needed, open the Time Machine pane of System Preferences, and remove the drive with the pictures from the list of items set to be excluded.

Unfortunately, that drive is long gone, probably back to the mfr. Drives are not returned when they are exchanged. You can go by and ask them, but the chances are slim to none.

  • Partitioning an ext. HD for use with Time Machine HFS+/FAT32

Hi, I hope that this question is not already answered somewhere - I did a couple of searches but couldn't find the answers I need.
I'm setting up an external LaCie 500GB HD (USB 2.0) for a friend, in order to use it for Time Machine backups (one partition) and as a non-backuped "data dump" (music / films etc.).
My plan is the following: Partition the ext. HD into a 200 GB HFS+ Journaled partition for use with Time Machine, and a 300 GB FAT32 partition for data (FAT32 to ensure the interoperability with PCs).
I have a couple of questions (apart from if you think the proposed setup is good in general):
    1. The Time Machine partition would be used to back up a MacBook with a 120GB HD - in your opinion, is 200GB too much/enough/too less space?
    2. In general, does Time Machine work with partitions on ext. HDs as seen in the setup I propose? (or should I use a drive with only one partition?)
    3. are there any possible problems I might run into when partitioning a drive into two different file systems as HFS+ and FAT32?
    4. Is it OK to use the Leopard Disk Utility for this or should I use another application?
thanks a lot for your answers!

    Hi,
Could you please share the answers you found?
I'm going through a very similar situation...
    Thanks!
    Beto.

  • Best hard drive for use with Time Machine

    Hi,
Has anyone determined what the best external hard drive is for use with Time Machine? Is there a particular one that works exceptionally well with Time Machine, or is it much of a muchness?
I'm looking for a Firewire 400 & Firewire 800 drive that STAYS ON all the time, and doesn't automatically spin down or spin up like the rubbish WD My Book drives do.

I can't tell you if it is the "best" hard drive for you to use with TM, but I'm quite happy with the 500 GB Buffalo Technology DriveStation Combo TurboUSB I bought recently. It is quiet, quite inexpensive for the capacity (I paid about $120 for one on sale at Fry's), & completely compatible with OS X & TM.
Best of all for me, it automatically powers down when my iMac sleeps. It also spins down after a time if the Mac's Energy Saver preference "Put hard disk(s) to sleep when possible" is checked; otherwise it remains spun up until the Mac is put to sleep or switched off.
It comes with "Turbo" USB & Memeo "AutoBackup" software, neither of which I installed. (The box didn't claim these extras came in a Mac version but both Mac & Windows versions were included on the CD.) Out-of-the-box, I reformatted the drive with the Apple Partition Map scheme & two partitions, a 160 GB one for cloning my internal drive & the rest for TM. The drive works perfectly for both uses & seems quite fast, as one would expect from a 7200 rpm SATA drive.

  • Partitioning an External 320gb drive for use with Time Machine and...

I want to be able to use my Western Digital 320GB external drive for use with Time Machine and to use as extra storage space on both my Mac and when I boot into Windows Vista.
    Is this possible?
I was playing around in Disk Utility and would I partition the part I want to use for Time Machine with the Mac OS Journaled, and whatever I want as space for windows, use a MS - DOS format?
    Has anyone done this before?
    Cheers-

Unless you are using 64 bit version of MSWindows (64 bit XP/Vista), it won't be able to handle a disk with GUID partition table (GPT). Disks with Apple Partition Map (APM) or GUID partition table are the only ones that Time Machine will work with (not MBR disks). Note also that the MBR/APM/GPT are at the DISK level and not the partition level, so don't mix the format with partitioning scheme. Time Machine disks are meant to live in the Mac universe (for now, anyway) and sharing with the MSWindows 32-bit universe is not possible.

  • Is it possible to assign an extended desktop to be an external desktop for a window's machine?

I have an iMac with Lion and a Windows Vists Laptop and corresponding external monitor on my desk. I'd ideally like to use my iMac as an external monitor for the Window's machine and essentially remove the physical one from my desk.  Make sense?
I already have 4 extended desktops created on my iMac and I'm HOPING that I could assign Desktop 4 (example) as the external monitor to be controlled by the Vista machine. I'd like to be able to flip between my Mac OS and the "extrernal monitor'' via the 2-finger-swipe gesture. Anyone have any ideas?
NOTE: I also have Paralles installed with Windows 7 running on my iMac, but I specifically need the Vista machine to have the external monitor, so please do not suggest this solution.

Thank you!  While reading these directions, I realized that I have the wrong connector.  I have the old Mac Monitor serial port to VGA instead of the MiniDisplay port to VGA needed (didn't even think about this computer not having that port available).  I just bought the correct one from Apple, so I'll attempt these instructions as soon as it arrives.
To confirm: I'll be able to run the iMac as the external display and have Lion open simultaneously, right? (Obviously not both on the screen simultaneously, but the ability to "switch" views) Based on the article, the trick is turning the Target Display on/off with the Command + F2 buttons (as opposed to assigning an extended desktop and using gestures), correct?
Again, thank you for your help!
