Dashboard freezing?

I just got a new iMac 20" Duo Core Intel...
I know there are a lot of post on iMac 20" & 24" duo core Intels freezing up. I thought I'd post to see if anybody else is also getting freezes when adding or using Dashboard.
Seems as if I try to add another Dashboard item, it doesn't give the "blurb water" effect, instead it just freezes and forces me to do a hard shut down by holding the power button in till the iMac shuts down. Is this an example of the issues at hand on these iMacs? I have also came across another where all of a sudden my screen just went blank black but not shut down. As if there is something going but the screen is just a fade of black. Nothing new was even installed, not one program but merely just Software Updates. So with this being a brand new toy what should I be doing? Do we wait it out for Apple to send new Software Update? Should I be wasting time calling Apple Support? Just looking for some suggestions. TIA

I have 2 gigs of RAM. Anyways here's an update of what's going on with my iMac...
I did a fix permission a couple more times after all the initial Software Update which actually included the iMac Software Update 1.1. Unlike many post in which people say that they are having problems with this, I actually only crashed maybe 3 times now and it's been about a week.
Generally the first time I launched a program regardless of what it was it crashed. Then I'd run fix permission utility and found some errors being corrected. Once I do that, I'd go back and run that program without any more problems. I know it sound's weird but it's been working okay for me since which includes Dashboard as well.
(knock on wood)
Maybe it's just as simple as running the Disk Utility - Fix Permission.

  • Third party access to Business Catalyst admin console: dashboard freezing

    Hi,
My client can't access his admin console in Business Catalyst to edit the website we've built for him. He's using both a Mac G5 2.1gh power pc OS 10.4.11 and a Mac Laptop 2.2gh intel core duo 10.6.8. He follows this link http://www.slowhome.co.uk/AdminConsoleXT/#dashboard but the screen just freezes. I've resent passwords, fiddled with admin persmissons but nothing has freed up access yet. Any suggestions, clues or answers please? We're using Adobe Muse to build and Business Catalyst to manage. His browser meets the system requirements.

What browser is he using? The user account for the other admin at the site seems to be properly set up with all permissions assigned. I'm unable to reproduce the problem either. If the problem persists, can you ask the user to try another browser or clear cookies/temp data/cache for the current browser and re-try. If that doesn't help, please try logging into the admin using a different network connection.
You could also try creating another admin account for the user and test it out. This would also help isolating the issue to being account specific. If that doesn't work either, please reach out directly to BC live chat support through http://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html?product=business-catalyst.

  • Dock, Expose, Dashboard freeze and macbook won't shut down.

I got a new Macbook about 2 and a half months ago and since then i have this problem with dock, expose and dashboard where they just suddenly don't respond.
This has happened about 10 times so far and i can't think of anything that causes it.
The problem basically consists of the Dock freezing and not responding and the f9, f10, f1q and f12 buttons not responding for Expose and dashboard. I try to shut it down properly but nothing happens and then the whole thing starts to act slowly. I am then forced to force shut down the Macbook.
When I started up again last night after it happened again it was acting really slowly and froze for a few minutes.
Through all of this all I had open was itunes, limewire, msn and firefox.
I tried force quitting finder and it didnt help. Neither has repairing or verifying disk permissions.
If anyone ahs any help it would be a great help!
    Thanks!

  • Dashboard freezes up

On my work G5 I have a number of widgits on my dashboard, ranging from multiple weather and sports icons, along with the SMS Call Wave (that needs to access my address book when launching for the first time after turning on the computer). I am not sure if this is a contributing factor. But my dashboard whenever I try an launch it freezes up my whole computer immedietly and the only way I can shut it off is manually by unplugging it. I am hopeing someone has crossed this path before, and hope even more someone has figured out how to remedy this situation?

Yesterday I finally got fed up with the freezing - right in the middle of a game of solitaire when I should have been working - and I remembered the bad old days... I selected all the "plist" files for the widgets, trashed them and restarted the computer. No more freezes! And all the widgets fixed their preference files.

  • Freezing Dashboard

    Hi all,
I'm running Snow Leopard and I have just started having problems with the Dashboard freezing if I have more than the calculator, world clock and weather widgets running. The iCal and zidget widgets used to work, but when I reinstall them, or any other widget, Dashboard freezes after about ten seconds. Even running the widget manager causes dashboard to freeze. I've tried deleting the appropriate *plist files and restating my machine, but that doesn't fix anything. Does anybody have any experience with this? Thanks.

  • Lion freezes after selecting dashboard in mission control.

After selecting Dashboard in Mission Control the Dashboard freezes. Have to do a hard shut down to exit.

I have restarted, checked and unchecked options in the Mission Control settings.  I've tried using option to activate the plus sign.  I've updated to the latest release of the software. None of these have worked.  I hope someone can help me.

  • Please HELP iMac 17" (non isight)

Keeps freezing up. Haven't done anything different today than any other day. Came home from work, wanted to check email. Froze right on the spot, dashboard, nothing responds, shut off several times with power button. Just replaced this hard drive no more than 8 months ago.
I tried, that one trick where you disconnet everything, wait a minute, hold the power down until a weird "ding" sound. That tends to get it passed the opening where everything loads, then I'll check mail & dashboard freezes in mid animation!
    What's going on?

Does it boot from the install DVD?

  • Dashboard causing system freeze

I have just upgraded from a G5 iMac to an Intec iMac - I find that when I select dashboard the windows come "in" to about halfway and then the system freezes and a cold restart is necessary (never happened on the G5 with the same widgets). This doesn't happen every time but much too often - I guess I have a rogue widget, how do I determine which one? - John.

    John Ross4 wrote:
Mihalis, Is there any way I can determine which are Universal and which are not? - John.
The following shows a way to determine if a Widget is Universal.
    iStat pro.wdgt/iStatPro.bundle/Contents/MacOS $ file iStatPro
iStatPro: Mach-O fat file with 2 architectures
iStatPro (for architecture ppc): Mach-O bundle ppc
    iStatPro (for architecture i386): Mach-O bundle i386
But, the first first you should do is determine which Widgets are causing you the problems. Unistall them all and install them one by one until you find the problematic ones.

  • Widgets freezing in dashboard!!!

I'm running 10.5.2 on my MacBook Pro. I open Dashboard to view a couple of widgets. They work the first minute, then they freeze. Not only that, but the radio widgets have stopped working altogether. If anybody knows of any solutions, it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I may have figured it out. Just after I made my first post I had a bit of inspirotto. I have a copy of OnyX (freeware) and performed a full clean-up of my system (cache, logs, etc.) All of my widgets are working now. For how long it has yet to be seen, but give it a whirl and see what happens.
I am thinking that there is a residual effect from the cache, logs, etc. when I upgraded to 10.5.3

  • IMac G5 freezing after use of dashboard

    Hey guys,
My faithful iMac G5 has been a great workhorse and is now suffering from a strange affliction. If I go into dashboard it slows down terribly to the point of not being useful. if i click out of dashboard it and try to run an application it basically sits and freezes. any advice, all latest software downloads, 85gig free memory from 250gig drive.

    Hi fishmammal-
Greetings and welcome to the Apple Discussion boards
Is this a new problem or have you had it since upgrading to Leopard? If you click on the desktop during the slowdown will it quit the dashboard and return to the desktop fairly quickly? What other programs are running at the same time?
I believe that adding more RAM to your machine will help this problem.
    Luck-

  • Macbook freezes when dashboard accessed

Two nights ago, I let my computer sleep until the morning (I rarely shut it down at night). When I tried to login to the computer (via the screensaver password prompt), the computer froze. I did a force quit via the power button and when it restarted, the no (slash/circle) sign appeared then the flashing question mark. I then attempted to fix it via the disk utility, but I gave up when the utility searched ad nauseum.
I was able to restarted the computer and use it with no problems until I pressed the F12 key to access the dashboard. The computer freezes when the dashboard is displayed. If I have iTunes open, it will still play, but I can't get access the force quit via altctrlescape route.
I'm in the midst of finals and can't leave my computer at the Apple Store right now.
Has anyone had a similar problem? I recently did the firmware update. Could this be related?
    Thanks for your help.

Maybe you need a new VGA adapter? Can you bring your MacBook and adapter in to an Apple store and have them test your adapter and a known working adapter?

  • Dashboard is freezing :(

Hi everybody! I've a problem with Dashboard, very frustrating, so if anyone can help me, thanks!
Everytime i'm opening it, the widgets works for 5 seconds then freezes, so I tried to delete the dashboards preferences in Preferences, in Cache, even the widgets files in the Library, and restart my computer but the problem can't be fixed. At first i thought it was a problem linked to Snow Leopard, but i opened a new account on my mac in which Dashboard works, so this is coming from my session. I looked all day on Internet and i can't find a solution working for me so i'm hoping someone here will be able to help.
    Thank you!

I looked in the Sync Services folder and no local folder exists just a schemas folder for Microsoft office.
I'm looking under my home user name. This only place I found a Sync Services?
Any other suggestions. It works once in awhile and my overview of th Mac works, apple suggestions works, To do list works but not weather, time, calendar?

  • Dashboard widgets freezing (Lion)

Whenever I login and go to my Dashboard, my widgets start updating yet freeze within five seconds. This happens every time no matter how many times I log out and back in.
Is there any way to fix this?
    Thank you.
Widgets I'm running: TV Forecast, Videotron Internet Usage, Translator, and Weather.

Haha, I don't blame you. Here's a screenshot of the emails between the dev and myself if it makes you feel better
As for it being on the dev's website, I doubt it is unless he released the update already. I think the best bet would be to email him directly. His email can be found here: http://bigbucketsoftware.com/contact/

    Hi,
We're currently experiencing intermitent Answers "freezes" during dashboard editing. The session has to be closed and logged in again. This is causing a massive perception issue before the service goes live.
The only errors I can see are in the saw.log - no errors are seen in the nqserver.log/nqserver.log. The only relevant errors I can see are as follows:

    Hey there user635059,
When you say "freeze", I guess the links/buttons all stop responding and the page just sits there, yeah?
Do you get "freezes" during any other aspect of OBI operation? - e.g. viewing reports in a dashboard, creating reports in Answers, etc. This is only happening when you're editing a dashboard?
