Dashboard gone wacky?

On my Macbook, I once installed a Dashboard widget that allowed for widgets to come off the Dashboard and onto the desktop. After it gave me issues, I uninstalled it and everything was fine. However, this morning, I opened my Macbook and, to my surprise, both a Poker widget and the Dictionary/Thesaurus widget were on my desktop. I was able to uninstall the Poker widget, but the Dictionary/Thesaurus doesn't have that option, so it's now stuck there and quite annoying. Does anyone have any insight into what I should do?

Try activating your Dashboard. Then go to the tray at the bottom of the screen and click the + button (like you are adding one to the screen and making the available Widgets visible). That should place X's on all the running Widgets and you can click on it and close the ones you don't want running.
If that doesn't work go to Applications->Utilities->Activity Monitor and open it and go through the list and find the two Widgets you don't want running and highlight it and Quit the Process which should stop it from running.

Help me with this. my dashboard gone crazy

Help, everytime I press the volume button of my macbook, my dashboard appears instead of increasing the volume. but when I press the original keys for the dashboard, it wont appear. I created a mess! I feel like my macbook is so dirty. How can I bring back the original settings of my dashboard. uuggghhh. pls help me. Btw, im new to mac os so pls understand. no harsh comments

Just check the Dashboard and Expose setting and just fix the shortcut keys there.

Jpeg images gone wacky in CS4 bridge

I will try and make these two issues as coherent as possible, both issues began out of the blue (after installing camera raw 5.3?):
1. I make corrections to a camera raw file and save as a jpeg. the jpeg that appears in the folder w/ the raw file does not reflect any changes made, though the raw file does. when i open said jpeg in PS, I can see the correctly saved image.
(Canon 5D)
2. When viewing files taken with my Canon 5d mk ii, I cannot see a preview for the raw file. When I save the raw file as a jpeg, the jpg that shows up in bridge is gobbledy **** looking. When i reopen the jpeg, the photo is available as saved, I just can't view it in bridge.
Why are jpeg images not showing up in bridge correctly? Does it have anything to do with the plug-in? Or something else?
I have a macbook pro, PS CS4, and use canon cameras.

In order to rule out non-human malfunctions first , trash your Bridge preferences by holding down the Option key as you launch Bridge. Then Purge the Cache for the offending folder(s) through the Tools menu in Bridge (not the global command in Bridge preferences).
If you still see issues after doing the above, please report back providing detailed info about your setup, the exact version of Ps (have you applied the 11.0.1 update) and the OS you are running, what your working color space is in Ps, what color space you are using in Camera Raw Workflow Options, whether you are embedding the color profile in your JPEGs or not, etc., and what your settings in the Bridge preview options are:

Rss has gone wacky

about a week ago, I discovered several problems using the RSS reader built into Safari (latest version).
1. doesn't show new article numbers on feeds that have new stuff
2. doesn't clear read articles on some feeds unless I go into feed, select to show all and then back to the 'last seven days' that i have everything set to
3. it's showing the tags on the summaries instead of the rendered HTML the way it should
any suggestions on how to fix this. I thought at first it was a problem with livejournal which is where a bunch of the feeds are from, but then I was checking my non LJ feeds and they were mucked up also.

Sadly ( ! ) one of the reasons I switched to mac a week or so ago was because of the RSS functionality in Safari.. I know that sounds uber geeky, but RSS is very important to me, and I was due for a new machine anyway! (I hand code my own feed in textedit and formally notepad - and always use an online feed validation tool like feed validator)
I have tinkered about with various standalone feed readers and various plug ins for Firefox. When my brother told me about Safaris RSS support, I was more than delighted to give it a try....
Like many others here, I have been having issues around the updates not showing at the correct times and mostly, updates not showing up at all. Even after resubscribing to the feeds, the issue remains.
An additional feature I would like to see (aside from it generally working as designed!) would be the ability to force a refresh of all subscribed feeds or to generally have more refresh options than the lowest of 30 mins, especially usefull when testing your own feeds)

Time Machine gone wacky

I am working on upgrading the original HD in my 17-inch, Early 2011 MBP from a 750G to a 1T drive.
I successfully restored a Time Machine backup to a larger drive in an external enclosure. I was able to boot with that external drive and have yet to have any issues with it. I've used it for quite some time.
But then when I ran TM to backup from the new disk I encountered a weird problem. And this is a strange problem like I've never seen on OS X.
Time Machine eventually locks up and characters on the screen are "confused." Some are missing and some appear to be the wrong ones. This happened on two separate attempts.
Thinking that there is an issue in doing what I was hoping to do (a TM restore to a new disk and continuing to use the existing TM backup) I reformatted the TM disk and tried again. I got the same results.
I am aware of and followed (to the best I could) the great information on http://pondini.org including Terminal commands - all to no avail.
Disk Utility has been run a number of times throughout this ordeal and reports that all the drives concerned are okay.
I am stumped as to how to proceed at this point.
Has anyone seen this kind of issue or can you guide me through getting TM to work ?

Screen gone wacky

My daughter was playing a game on our eMac and suddenly the screen went into widescreen mode, I cannot see the apple menu, or anything on the right side of the menubar. the font is like reading thru a pair of too strong glasses. I checked the games' prefs, the eMac's display prefs, nothing amiss. Does anybody have an idea of what I could do. ( I have used Onyx.) Thanks in aadvance.

Well I guess it's time to start with the basics!
Navigate to HD > Users > Your Home Folder > Library > Preferences: In this folder, locate, and move to the Trash, this file com.apple.systempreferences.plist.
Restart the eMac.
If that works, you can empty the Trash, and reset any custom preferences you had configured.
If it doesn't help, you can either leave the the new com.apple.systempreferences.plist that was created, or replace it, with the old one that's in the Trash.
Then run Repair Disk & Repair Permissions. Advise if you need instructions.

G5 Quad Loud Fans, Color on Monitor Gone Wacky.

I have read as many of the "loud fans" topics I can on here again today and nothing suggested seems to be helping. I have a late 2005 G5 Quad all stock video card 250 gb HD with 75gb to spare, with 4 extra gb of ram. The G5 ran fine until about two weeks ago when the exaust fans would just come on and run at 3200 rpm all the time on both a/b cores when idling. Here's what I have tried. Reinstal Os 10.4, ran Memtest on ram twice yes about half a day wasted there but everything checks out with the ram I even pulled the added ram with no change, repaired disc permisions, zapped pram, reset SMU. Oh and the office I am in is usually around 77 F from a thermometer/clock about 3' from the ceiling on the wall. It was actually warmer in the office during Jan/Feb around 82F and the fans never cut into full speed they would rev up a bit when rendering a DVD or a filter on a huge Photoshop file but quiet back down in no time. Now when the fans first started running all out I remember I had one Kernel Panic that did not store a panic file. After that the Monaco calabrated monitor I was using developed a magenta to blue gradient from top to bottom on the monitor. Anyway, in dealing with the loud fans and the thought that my monitor was going down and possibly causing the video card to get hot and make the G5 run hot silly I know but work was getting backed up. I Ran out and bought a brand new monitor. I unplugged the old trusty lacie CRT and plugged in the new monitor without any other drives or USB/firewire plugged in yet. Turned the G5 on and it looks just like the old crt! Almost identical color shift from top to bottom and the fans are still loud as before. After more research on here I decided to run Apples hardware test today on the G5 to find out what it had to say. Everything goes fine and I start with just the basic test to see if anything will come up. It sees everything including the video card starts to test the logic board and at exactly 2:52 seconds into testing the G5 freezes and a red light inside the front grill comes on REAL bright. I shut down, and Yes, tried 4 more times and at exactly 2:52 the G5 freezes, bright red light and I shut down. I'm guessing there is some serious problem going on here unless I have missed something in a "magic" thread I have yet to find here or on the WWW. Any ideas or is it time to back up all of our work and contact Apple and send it in. We are still under warranty and I am NOW going to buy my first Apple Care after owning Macs since 1999 with no problems from any of them.

Personally I would hang on to the system discs - or get a signature - in blood, preferably.
This is probably a good moment to consider cloning to an external firewire drive. If you don't have an external firewire drive, it's probably a good moment to consider investing in one.

(you should disconnect any iSight during cloning and test the clone several times for 'bootability')
Not only will it be useful in your current situation, it means that you have an alternative boot if you have, or suspect, problems with your internal boot drive in the future. You can re-clone to the external before updating OS X, or anything else, so that you can get up and running again in the [unlikely...] event of problems; you can also clone the external boot back to your internal, after formatting and writing zeros, which gives you a clean internal drive, and also tidies the file system up a bit.
How you partition the external depends on how much you have on your internal. Today, for ease and peace of mind, you may wish to make it one partition/volume, and clone the whole internal to it. Later on, when the dust has settled, you could partition it into one volume large enough for the system and applications and a larger volume for Users. You can select which parts of your internal drive are to be cloned in the cloning utility. Plus your usual backups, of course.

USB Drive and iPod do not show up on desktop

Hello,
I put the computer to sleep when I'm going to be away for awhile and overnight. When I come back and wake it, my USB drive does not appear on the desktop. I have to restart the iMac to get it to come back.
Also, when I plug my iPod in, iTunes updates it and then within 10 minutes, the icon does not show on the desktop but I can see the iPod in iTunes.
Any ideas?

I did run the hardware test and everything passed.
For about 3 hours last night, everything was working fine. This morning the USB drive icon is there but not the iPod. I think I will try the OS reinstall but not for about a week. I will be out of town all next week and can't get to it before I leave.
Something may have gone wacky while loading some application. A couple of the suspects would be Adobe Lightroom beta 4 or Google Earth. This issue only started within the last 5 days or so and I think those are the only applications I've loaded in that time.
Thanks for the help in eliminating some of the culprits. I think the OS install should fix. If not, it may be time to have Apple take a look.

I can't seem to find anything about this but my system has gone wacky after pacman -Syu yesterday morning.
I have over 100000 lines of the above message in errors.log
I suppose I will have to build a new kernel.
That is probably inevitable anyway as VirtualBox doesn't work with the default.

If this happens again, there is a 'Folio Producer' link in the Folio Builder Panel flyout menu. This takes you to Folio Producer login on the default browser on your system.

Iphone dies easy?

Lately my iphone 5 has been dying at 20% then when I try to turn it back on it will show the charge icon. When I get around to charging the phone it will turn on right away & say 21% and charge like normal. Why is it doing this?
I am currently running the newest iphone update ios 8.1

Restore your phone as NEW, not using backup at all. You likely have a rogue app or an exchange account that's gone wacky.

Network and Mavericks is all messed up

My network connection to my company network has just gone wacky since upgarding to Mavericks,. it is one of many problems i am having. I can connect to the internet but the wifi icon says no internet connectivity. Also mapped drives on servers are now no longer available and i cannot reconnect to them. BUT i can connect to other folders on that server that were not previously mapped. go figure. someone dig up Steve and get him back in the drivers seat. Details Apple Details!!!!

Yes... the heat in a parked car in Louisiana in August can definately ruin an iPod (or almost any electronic device).
You have a warranty, but unfortunately this is certain to be considered by Apple to be abuse and thus not covered. Sorry. There are third-party iPod repair services available. Google 'ipod repair' and see what comes up. I see ipodresq recommended a lot on these forums.

The height and width settings no longer work.

The settings in Adobe Photoshop CS5 have gone wacky in the canvas size area. Everything shows as 0, whether it be inches, pixels, etc. I tried entering numbers in place of the zeros in the height and width areas, and then it creates huge margins around the picture. If I cut the number in half to try to trick it, it still gives big margins instead of cropping the picture. HELP!

R12 SQL*Plus Access - Application Manager

Hi Guys,
Finally managed to get my R12 up and running on Linux Redhat 4. I'm trying to get client SQL*Plus access to the database but i'm having a few problems.
If i remember correctly on 11.5.10.2 as sysadmin you need to log on as Application Manager and change a security setting to allow client based SQL access.
Is this the same for R12 and where has the application manager dashboard gone?

Oracle Applications Dashboard is access via System Administrator responsibility, same as 11.5.10.2 with ATG.H RUP 4.
There is no tcp.validated_node restriction in R12 Vision, if you have the tnsnames.ora information, you should be able to connect directly from sqlplus. I can connect from multiple hosts to the R12 Vision via sqlplus without any additional setups. Copy your tnsnames.ora entry for the database to the sqlplus oracle home you are trying to connect from.
