Dashboard missing, OS X Mavericks 10.9.5

When I click on the dashboard, all of the widgets went missing and it doesn't let me add them back.
I tried to click the "+" sign on the bottom left but there is nothing on the page.
I also tried to search for the file "~/Library/Caches/com.apple.dashboard.client" as suggested but I can't seem to find it in my computer.
Thank you for helping in advance!

Some of your user files (not system files) have incorrect permissions or are locked. This procedure will unlock those files and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Enter the following command in the Terminal window in the same way as before (triple-click, copy, and paste):
sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags -h nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown -h $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -h -N {} + -type d -exec chmod -h +x {} + 2>&-
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
          Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button
Select
           ▹ Restart
from the menu bar.

Could anyone please help in this?
    OR
Provide steps on how to use SFTP with FTP Adapter.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply.
As per client's requirement, we shouldn't be using java service for this functionality.
And as you said, the oracle adapters are not taking anywhere, but guess have no other choice..

  • All my imovie events are missing after latest maverick and imovie 10 update

    Hi,
I updated to Mavericks, and updated iMovie. I opened up iMovie and it says that all the original files are missing. It suggests to try and re-import the files, but I cannot find them anywhere on my computer. I am missing hours of footage, and I have no idea where it has gone.  It appears that the old iMovie is there, and I can click it open, but all the files are missing from there too.  Anybody have any ideas as to what happened, or what can I do to get my movie clips back?

    Same issue here.
Deleted the UpdatedToiMovie10 file (0 bytes) and relaunched iMovie. Starts off OK, then
Then although I can see the names of all the project files in the sidebar and they are still in the iMovies9 folder, and iMovies9 still works as normal, iMovies10 just displays
    But that doesn't work either.
Tried running the permissions repair and there were hundreds flagged as incorrect, but that didn't cure it either.
    Any ideas?

  • Firefox No longer Loads - Profile Missing - Mac OS Mavericks

I have Mac OS Mavericks 10.9
I attempted to run Firefox, and I got the error "Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible."
I read through the documentation, and I uninstalled Firefox, I also removed the profile.
    /Applications/ - deleted Firefox
    /Library - no firefox
/Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/ - deleted Mozilla and Firefox folders
Then I downloaded Firefox25.dmg and installed it. I still get the same error. And there is no longer a Firefox or Mozilla folder under the Users/Library folder
I am using Chrome, as I can no longer use Firefox. So there is no troubleshooting information.

This happens when there is a profiles.ini file, but the default profiles listed in this file is missing.
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
You can use the Profile Manager to create a new profile.
    See "Creating a profile":
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile (in case there is still one) to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem.

  • World Clock widget in Dashboard - missing hands

Prior to Daylight Saving Time (South Australia) all clock hands [hour, minute etc.] on the world clock widget in the Dashboard were visible.
However, the day after the introduction of Daylight Saving Time the clock hands had gone. I've heard of people who believe that curtains fade due to DST, but clock hands? :-)))
I downloaded another world clock ('Stationsklok') but that was also minus the clock hands. The same was done with a digital clock widget ('Flip Clock') and the numerals were missing.
I removed the original world clock and replaced it with another - no luck. Trashing the world clock plist files has not brought any luck either.
Can anyone suggest anything else that I can try?

  • Missing Apps in Mavericks

I've just upgraded to Mavericks from Lion. I find that iPhoto, iMovie and iDVD are all missing in the new OS. Can I restore them from my Time Machine backups? If I do, will they work with Mavericks?

If yours was one that shipped with Lion preinstalled, the iLife disks may have been removed, and you downloaded the short list from App Store.
iMovie does not do what iDVD does. You can create a movie with all the effects and such, but you cannot “author” it to DVD format with menus and playable on a DVD player. You still need Authoring software to do that.
I’m not sure exactly when (near about 2010), the iLife apps were on the gray install disks. My daughter’s Macbook (2010-ish) came with an actual iLife DVD.
But, if you didn’t find any software restore disks that came with the iMac, then that is all irrelevant.
You could try contacting Apple and see if they can send you the disks that should have been bundled. They check the serial number, so they may just say what you already know, that it didn’t actually come with disks. If they do have disks for it, make sure it has the bundled apps.

  • How do I restore a missing Calendar in Mavericks?

I upgraded my MBP to Mavericks last week and noticed yesterday that one of my calendars in the Calendar app is missing.  Additionally, some of my other calendar titles that I had changed previously are set back to their original titles from years ago.  All of the events in the missing calendar are gone of course, since that whole calendar section is gone.
I've tried looking into Time Machine backups with no luck.  I've been unable to access any old files and am lost at how to restore my calendar since the Calendar app has changed so much with various system updates.  Other discussions I have looked at gave instructions about how to restore calendars, but I don't seem to be able to find or access any of the files listed within Time Machine.
Any advice?? I would REALLY like to retrieve my old calendar events since this is the only place I have a record of various meetings, etc.  THANK YOU.

I have the same problem. Mi iCloud calendars were first duplicated, then as I delete one copy, both of them
    woud dissapear.
Not to mention the problems I have with Apple Mail.
This iCloud integration brings back memories of the MobileMe days.
I think I would nerver writh these words: "I  use Outlook". If Apple does not fix the Cloud soon, I will migrate
    to some other platform.

  • I have icons missing on OSX mavericks in Launchpad

    hi guys,
how would i remedy this bug? in my context menu (open with) i am constantly seeing missing icons for apps and then in launchpad i have icons missing again, only the name appearing. if i click on them they do still open apps if i click on them but id like to see the blooming icons still!!!
this is ever since i updated OSX mavericks to the latest version. 10.9.1 i think.
please help or if u are experiencing it too lemme know if theres anything we can do!
i dont want to uninstall and then re-install these apps so that is not an option!
    thanks all

If they were purchased from iTunes then connect the phone to your Mac's iTunes and the File > Devices > Transfer Purchases should copy them over. If they came from other sources (e.g. copied from CDs) then you will need a third-party program on your Mac to copy them back - there are some listed half-way down this page : Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
If by 'missing' you mean that you have them listed in the Music part of your iTunes library but get the 'would you like to locate' message when trying to play them then you will need to delete them from there for the Transfer Purchases to work - otherwise that will see those entries in your library and assume that you still have them somewhere and not copy them back.

  • How to restore missing fonts after Mavericks upgrade

If your fonts are not working in Pages and other software after a Mavericks  'upgrade', it might be that you still have them, and simply need to turn them back on...
    1. Go to Font Book
    2. Find the failing fonts.
    3. If they are marked 'Off' then right click them and highlight 'Enable Fonts' option.
    Hope this helps!
    Dan
FWIW Mavericks has wasted DAYS of my time this week... it disabled fonts, made my WD HDD incompatible, trashed Time Machine and lost my Google Drive folder, so my files don't sync etc.

There's a very old thread about this for CS2. Domingo Chavez listed the required fonts and where they belong for that version, and even posted them for others to download and replace. I don't know if the collection has changed, but judging from my system I think not, so it would be worth trying the older files. As always, back up first..
Start reading at http://forums.adobe.com/message/1308262#1308262 where you'll see the lists, and a bit further down you should find the links to where the files were posted. The first link is to a.rar archive, further down is a link to a slightly freindlier .zip version. What the heck, here's that link, which still seems to be active: http://public.newrandom.com/Reqrd.zip
But read the thread, anyway, so you understand what's up.

  • 50,000 missing emails in Mavericks - what is going on Developers?

I have not had a problem with lost mail since OS8.1 ('98/99) and then came Maverick 10.9...
SO I import my mail folders and preferences as normal from backup.... Mail is importing 50k messages, but then nothing, zero, zilch....
I have backups and I have other machines, but actually I want my mail, on my laptop and now would be good.
All the usual tricks tried (delete envelope index, unable to 'import' message folders though..)
This Amazes me - on iOS all my mail settings sync effortlessly and it 'just works', but the Beta testers and developers seem to have forgottne to check Maverick. Good name...

This is OLD news: article was posted on Jan. 30, and there are at least two threads already on it.
If your question is is it a better deal for UK iPhone users, then clearly it is.
What is your point? Are you comparing AT&T's package with that of 02, or the price of the handset; if the latter, then after taking into account sales tax and shipping, there isn't much in the difference, as far as I can see.

  • BootCaches.playlist missing after update Mavericks

After updating my iMac (with OSX 10.8.5) to Mavericks, I only get a gray screen and logo. The verbose mode stops with message "/var/db/BootCaches.playlist 2:no such file or directory". I tried repair mode: repair disk and repair permissions, but I still get a gray screen.
    What else can I do?

    Thanks for your support Ari,
I tried every solution I could find on the internet: nothing helped. Then I tried every solution in your mentioned document: no working solution, but I used part of one of the solutions.
    - I reinstalled a backup from my TimeCapsule.
    - Download Mavericks: no installation
    - I made a startup USBdrive with Mavericks
    - Booted from USB
    - Deleted everything of my startupdrive, and repartitioned.
    - Installed a clean version of Mavericks
    - and YES!! it started!!!
    - I allowed it to migrate my stuff from my TimeCapsule
    - and on reboot: I only had a "beautiful!?" gray screen and nothing else!
I was back where I started, but I thought there was one more solution:
    - rebooted from USB-drive
    - Deleted everything of my startupdrive, and repartitioned.
    - Installed a clean version of Mavericks
    - and YES!! it started!!!
    - I did NOT migrate my stuff from my TimeCapsule
    - I let it go untill I had a desktop
    - I did a warm, and then a cold reboot, and a still came on the desktop
    - then I migrated my stuff from TimeCapsule EXCEPT the "machine and networksettings".
And this did the trick for me: Mavericks still works, even after several reboots!
    Thanks Ari

  • Am I missing something installing Mavericks?

I have a mid-2009 macbook pro running mountain lion with 8gb Ram which looks like the required spec to install mavericks.
I replaced the hd with a SSD (480gb named 'SSD') recently which I think maybe the problem but I'm not sure. It's now the only drive in the system.
On installtion, the 'SSD' drive icon is shown but it says "OS X cannot be installed on SSD" - no reason why not, just this!
having endured a whopping 5.5gb download, I hope to God it's possible to install on my SSD?
    any ideas?
    thanks in advance

Off hand I'd be concerned if the SSD is not defective. In any case, I would start from scratch with it.
Install or Reinstall Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
The above should work if you actually have purchased Mavericks. Otherwise, you will need to reinstall Snow Leopard, update it to 10.6.8, then purchase and download Mavericks.

  • Dashboard Sticky recovery in Mavericks?

I don't have a Library file in my user folder, and i cannot find the database file for my dashboard stickies.  What can i do to restore these?

    Do a backup.
    Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library/StickiesDatabase. Recover from your backup.
Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.

    Hi guys
yes it's another complaint to Mavericks mail app. I had an email randomly disapeer in my inbox. this is for my Outlook/hotmail/live mail using the new IMAP settigns that microsoft posted a few months back. Not only has the message disapeared on me in my mail app inbox but it's also synced with my web mail!!! the one time microsofts IMAP actually works for me!!! Are Apple looking into this?? or are they just focusing on Gmail?
help would be great if anyone knows how to recover it. or will i just have to wait for it to right itself
also I've checked all sub folders, junk and trash and all other email accounts on the app...no luck

    Restore Mailboxes and their Content
Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.
