Dashboard playing up

Within a few days of updating from 10.4.11 to 10.5.8 Dashboard widgets were intermittently not functioning correctly. Dashboard closes down bring up an Apple dialogue box offering to report the problem to Apple (which I have). Has anyone else experienced this behaviour?

Are there any Apple included widgets causing the issue?
Or are there widgets that are older, from the earlier installation
which may have new versions available for download from the
Widget section of the software downloads support site?
There probably are some indications of what may be going on
behind that matter, in the Console utility's crash & report logs;
and could other logs in System Profiler> Software> Logs.
The Activity Monitor may also show if some of the widget items
are responsive or taking up resources and not working, etc. I
use a widget called DashQuit to quit all widgets. This works well
and I can relaunch Dashboard from the Dock to get them back.
You may need to check out the entire system and see if performing
general maintenance routines can help have it run smoother. Even
starting in SafeBoot mode, run Disk Utility's 'repair disk permissions'
and then when done, quit the utility and restart normally, may help.
There may be some preference files for widgets, you could trash.
Usually, a major upgrade in OS X system version invites a full new
installation of the system on a wiped/zeroed hard drive, correct new
partition map chosen and reformatted to the proper one for that Mac.
Then, install a new system from scratch on a clean hard drive. If you
have a bootable system clone, you can migrate user info into the
new installation; some older Apps may also need a newer version.

Dashboard playing random web clips - help!

This is by far and away one of the weirdest problem's I've ever had with a computer. Nothing dire, but it would be nice to get dashboard back to normal.
For reasons I don't understand, when I open dashboard it plays audio from a DailyShow clip (the same one) every single time, it seems to seek it out on the web. I removed all widgets, installed the 10.5.3 update, and it still is happening. I've restarted my computer several times, it is still happening. My guess is that dashboard "caught" a script while I visited a website, and now it can't let go of it.
As much as I love the Daily Show, does anyone out there know how to get things back to normal? Is there a way to completely remove dashboard, and then start again from scratch? Or is there a way to seek out this really annoying audio at its root?

I couldn't actually find the file, but that audio kept playing. So I made a web widget of your comment from yesterday, and for whatever reason that killed the feed.

How can i play the youtube songs on the dashboard with the new IOS6 Software

since apple is not associatied with youtube anymore in the new IOS6 we have to download the youtube app. But now i dont know if we can play the music while on the dashboard. Is there a way that you can play it. I think personally this update has done more harm then good but if you have any suggestions please feel free to comment.

IR Dashboard report from new query not getting all Quick Filter selections

I inherited an IR Dashboard .bqy and my user recently added a new Query, Result, Table, and Report section to it. I cannot get the report to dynamically filter based on the date chosen in the existing Quick Filters section. It seems to be filtering the Location properly (drop down in Quick Filters section), but not the date. Her result section refuses to show anything less than ALL dates from the query.
The other reports/pivots already on the dashboard work fine with all QuickFilters.
In my attempt to integrate her new report in to the dashboard I add a new hidden "dummy" pivot (based on the existing query btw, not the new query-could that be the issue? it's dummy though so i figured it was ok), reference this pivot in the Embedded Targets object I found by adding "Object~Pivot4|Type~9|Target~Casket Margin Summary" line,
went to Dashboard Studio and was able to Associate this report in to the right frame, etc.
In the script behind the QIQ date "Set Filters" button I saw this code for the existing "Result_Detail" section so I added a line for my new "Results_Merch Detail" section.

I tried it with and without an extra semi-colon at the end of my line. Is that the right way to tell it to apply it to more than 1 Result??
Worked with this for hours now and can't find whatever else is hidden which tells the QIQfIlter Date to refresh this NEW query/result when chosen.
I tried to make sure all Filter items exist in the new query's Request line, one was missing. i haven't gone back to Dash Studio since then and re-saved, does THAT matter? I saved the .BQY and re-processed, still no luck.
can anyone help? I'm desperate for suggestions.

This has been resolved. The main thing that kept it from working was I kept launching the Dashboard Studio after I was in Design mode so any time I got to the QIQ Filters setup screen it looked like cryptic code and there was nothing to alter or play with to try and force the filters to take effect, so I never changed anything.
This time I launched the Dashboard Studio while accidentally in regular mode, blessing in disguise. on Step 1 of the wizard I chose QIQ Filter Properties from the configuration drop down list which pops up the Local Filters setup window, now in place of code syntax there was english-like words & action items for me to play around with so I chose my new result set from the drop down list and highlighted all the limits and clicked "Set Filters". Presto, that did it.
Also I had to make sure all the columns referenced in the QIQ drop down lists and pick list was in my request line in the Query & Result section, repeat the above, and it's all working great now.

How can I stop iTunes from launching and playing by itself?

iTunes launches and plays by itself, which is very annoying, given that there is no discernable reason for it to do so.
Nothing in preferences should allow this. No device is connected. The library is not being shared.
Has anyone found a solution to this?

Check Dashboard to see if you have any iTunes-related widgets running. If so, close them and see if that makes a difference. Similarly, look for any third-party apps that may be related to iTunes, such as apps that copy "now playing" information to a web site.
Another possibility is external speakers, if you have them. Another user here found that a loose speaker connection may cause random launching and playing on iTunes. Try wiggling the speaker plug and see if that causes iTunes to launch. If so, unplugging and reconnecting the speakers may cure the problem. If not, you may have a defective speaker jack or an off-size plug on the speakers.

What is the data type for the Data Dashboard XY Graph?

I am playing with the new Data Dashboard (!!) on my iPad 2 and am having trouble setting up the shared variables that host data to the XY Graph.
On my PC, in my Project (inside of a variable library) I have set up shared variables for all of the other controls/indicators available in the app; They all work great. However, I have not been able to identify the data type that is for the XY Graph in Data Dashboard. Of course, inside LabVIEW, I use a cluster of 2 arrays; this is not an available data type that I can select while creating a new variable on the hosting side. I have even gone so far as to create a custom control from my XYGraph in LabVIEW and then creating the data type "From Custom Control..." with no success.
What gives? Am I missing something obvious? Thanks for the help!!

Great question, Aerogoob.
The XY graph can be bound to a 1d array of "points", where each point is a cluster of two numerics (X and Y). To create a shared variable of this type, you can set the data type to "From Custom Control..." in the shared variable properties dialog. Of course, first you'll have to build the custom control of the correct type: array of cluster of two numerics.
If any of that doesn't make sense, please post back and we can walk you through it in more detail.
Also, just for completeness, the chart indicator can be bound to a scalar numeric or to an array of numerics. The graph indicator can only be bound to an array of numerics.

Using variables in the SQL Results in Dashboard Prompt

I use the ff query to limit my results on my dashboard prompt. The variable value is given by a dashboard prompt within the same page.
SELECT Owner.Name saw_0 FROM "iSupport Service Request" WHERE "- Service Request Attributes".Platform =

It works fine with this query, only when selecting a particular selection in the prompt that feeds the variable data. Is there anyway to have this particular prompt by default(when the page first loads, load all the values possible prior to filtering by the variable?

The frame labels are 1,2,3 etc
sym.setVariable("subselect" , 0); // in the stage composition ready
Then in the menu you can set the "subselect" variable to 1,2,3 and then call sym.play(sym.getVariable("subselect"));

How to: Embed YouTube in Ibook/Location of File, Open in Dashboard Widget Code?

I am new to the whole Mac experience and loving it after 25 years locked into the MSGATES paradigm. I have been playing around with Ibook and have made a book. I would like to embed a You Tube file and it seems it is not as simple as slecting an HTML widget and then dropping in the Youtube embed code. Or is it?
Instructions are to create a widget and then drag the widget code into the HTML widget in iBooks. I was able to make it as far as to learn I can make my YouTube video a custom dashboard widget using the "File," "Open in Dashboard" method in Safari.
Once I did this I was able to select the portion of the YouTUBE page and click to make the YouTube widget. Presto, easy as pie. But where is the .wdgt file (and/or other related files to this custom dashboard widget) stored? I was able to find the widget directory in my root but only the preinstalled widgets were there--not the the widget I was able to make with the "File," "Open in Dashboard" method.
Is this the most straightforward way to embed a You Tube file, or is there another way?
It seems this should/can be as easy as just dropping the embed code into the HTML widget in iBooks. perhaps a consideration for the next version of iBooks...

We use a container thats ratio matches the video and insert following format into the folio overlay controls for Web Content: https://www.youtube.com/embed/ jyOFS5lAG68 *PLEASE NOTE: there is a space between the embed/ the video ID. Remove it to see how the video looks when you paste the link.

Dashboard - defaulting to a custom Dashboard - is this possible?

Hi Everyone,
I have created a custom sales dashboard and I would like to set it as the first dashboard that our Sales Reps see when they click on the tab. Is this possible? because I can't seem to find any info on this.
I started playing around with Custom Web tabs, and I can add the URL from the Sales Dashboard - but I get a picture in a picture problem where there are two sets of the action bar and tabs at the top
Has anyone had similar challenges? How have you gotten around this?

We're actually looking for the same feature, but no luck yet.
Prior to the custom dashboards in R15, we used Custom Web Tabs. We still keep the "top 3 dashboards" as Custom Web Tabs as they are more convenient to run. With the Custom Web Tab dashboards, we've linked each up to a Narrative report. Narrative reports use HTML code to combine several different reports into one report.
I've never tried to link the URL from a custom dashboard to a web tab, maybe you can give Narrative reports a try.

How to create 'NOT in between' dashboard prompt on a column

Hello Guys,
I have a simple request where the dashboard prompt has to send in data for 'NOT in between'. OBIEE does not give this option by default..
Any one who tried this .. can you please help with some pointers on this.
Column1 less than 100 or greater than 2000 --> This condition has to be sent from the dashboard. So my option in SQL is to use NOT in between 100 and 2000.

in the prompts you will have not between condition check out....if not write a SQL like this for the prompt
SELECT FROM table_name WHERE column_name not between 100 and 2000*
(OR)
SELECT FROM table_name WHERE column_name >= 100 AND column_name<= 2000*
you want values in that range then the SQL should be
SELECT FROM table_name WHERE column_name between 100 and 2000*

Building a BI based dashboard in Visual Composer

Dear,
We are using the Visual Composer to build a KPI dashboard based on BW KPI's from multiple queries (NO SEM in the background !)
What we need is to place the keyfigures in the rows and the keyfigure value in the colums. In the colums we further also need an arrow that indicates the trend based on the keyfigure value (ascending, descending,...)
this is how it should look

(*) The trend is based on a calculated keyfigure that compares this month's values with previous month's values.
In Visual Composer I'm trying to fit this in a table. After playing around I found that I need to place my keyfigures (column A) in a structure in the Rows in the BW query. Afterwards I can use the "characteristic" Key Figures and place it in my column in the VC table together with the value and the trend.
However, now my real problem occurs. I want to link trend with an image but the image should not be based on a condition linked with the main keyfigure from my row A but on another calculated keyfigure that I do not want to show in my rows at all. I'm affraid this is not possible since I don't see an option.
If anyone has an idea, please share. This kind of VC cockpit apps you see quite often on slides and Xapp presentations but I'm affraid they were all created with SEM cockpits in the background so I hope to be proven wrong.

Id'try the following:
a) your trend-field is in your query, but unselected in the field list
b) build a formula on this unselected field which selects the image (from the Image Manager)

How to get webi data into dashboard for non-users of webi.

I need to find a way to get data from a WebIntelligence Report (essentially 3 numbers: Average This Year, Average Last Year and Target This Year (eg, 40, 63, 55)) into a dashboard, where the data is refreshed each day. The resulting dashboard will be published on my external web site where anyone can access it. It is essential that a connection to the webi server is not required, so I can publish the report data to a text file on a network drive and pick it up from there. The data will change daily so this must be reflected in the dashboard.
Webi has no capability of saving to XML, so it's excel, text, csv archive or PDF only.
I have been playing with the "From Text" option in the Data tab, but changes to the data do not show when the .swf file is run. When in dashboard mode, I can click on preview to show the dashboard and the data doesn't change, however when I exit preview, the data is updated in the spreadsheet of the dashboard. It is just never reflected when the dashboard is displayed. I have dicked the refresh ever 1 minute, refresh data when opening the file, overwrite existing cells options in the External Data Range Properties page for the From Text option and am looking at the data via both a Grid object and an Spreadsheet object.
Could anyone please suggest what I am doing wrong, or anything else I may be able to try instead.

SWF not Playing in Web page

I have a swf embedded in a webpage that is not playing when accessed on the server or client machines. In the index.htm I have the following: When I go to the page in the browser I get no image or error message just nothing shown. What am I missing? Thanks Mark

I am receiving the error message 2148 on connection refresh. Here is where I am at now with the work flow:
1. Published a swf that is connected via xml maps to a folder called call center on my server.. When I open the swf from that local location on the server it works perfectly(open from file not thru http). Updates and functions on refresh.
2. Server is an application server running IIS. Using Front page to publish files to local intranet web pages. Import the swf to frontpage embed into index.html inside a flash movie player. Save, when viewed thru Internet explorer the error comes up 2148. Accessed from the server thru HTTP or on the network can see the dashboard and functions after you click OK to turn error off, but when you refresh the connection the error comes back.
3. Have global settings to the rootwww folder as always allow.
4. Have a crossdomain policy file in the root directory rootwww saved as crossdomain.xml:
