Dashboards in WEBI

We want to develop dashboards for our company. We dont have crystal Reports Xcelcius. We have WEBI and other Business Objects tools. What will be the easiest way to build dashboards with WEBI. Any thoughts and ideas will be greatly appriciated.
We want to use an existing universe and build dashboards. Once we build the dashboard we want to drill down to more details and see a more detailed version of the data.

If you do not have all these other tools and you are limited by licenses i.e budget, then you can of course build some dashboards using Webi. Basic, but possible.
You will only get static displays - no interaction
You will only be able to use the graphing capability available as stadard functionality.
You will be able to create alerts as per the Webi way.
You will be able use other images and so forth to make the "report" look attractive and display nice icons instead of text and so on - webi alerts have this functionality.
In a nutshell, still today, many exec's and management refer to a dashboard not in the sence of Dashboard Builder and the likes, but a simple high level report with some alerts (red, green etc)... if you want to go the smart and falshy route, then Webi will most probably fall short of the expectation.

I want to know how does the Dashboard using webi prompts work?
I am aware of the scheduling method in which u can schedule the report daily and in excelcius we can use the Latest Instance of the scheduled report.
But what if one wants to use the option On Demand with webi prompts.
Secondly if the prompts are entered in webi,how to capture those values in excelcius and with what component.

Thanks for reply but can anyone send the xlf file using prompts.
I know the when webi passed/changed, the data changes in the spreadsheet of the xlf files.
And that webi prompt is captured in single cell of the excel using drop down box.So when you change the drop down box value the corresponding data changes in the spreadsheet of the xlf files.
But how to implement this while previewing the dashboard.
Plz send some print screen or xlf files to get better idea of this.

Dashboard with Webi Report link - Cannot access external data

Dear Gurus,
I've a dashboard with access to WEBI report for Language setting.
All works fine for the group: Administrators.
If I take the Users out of the Adminstrators group and assign them normal power user group, I get the message that the external data cannot be accessed. No Error # or so is displayed.
Even if I grant the usergroup Full Control / Power User on the
Universe,
the Connection
Dashboard itself,
WEBI Application
Webservices
Still it does not work.
As far as I can see is, that it can't be a Network (Firewall)-Problem, because it works for the memebers of the Adminstration groups - What else can it be?

Company code restriction for dashboard and webi reports in BOBJ

Hi Friends,
We have a requirment where we need to restrict user on company code level in bobj.
we have some dashborads and webi reports which need to be restricted at company code level, hence i have created a role in BI and restricted the queries (bex queries) on company code level and same role and user i have imported in BOBJ.
Now i can see the role and user in BOBJ and also i can login to BILAUNCH PAD with authentication as SAP But unable to run the webi reports and dashboard hence i have added those reports to this user in bobj and now i can run the reports, but restriction is not working.
In BI I am able to restrict user but in bobj its not restricting. kindly let me know if i am missing anything?
We are having BO 4.0 SP6.

In BI its wokring perfectly fine.
I can run the query for specific company code and data is being populated as the respective compay code.
I have also configure SSO between BI & BO using below link

Passing Parameter from Dashboard to WebI

Hi All,
I need to pass the value that I select from the dashboard to a WebI document.
I have the code below which is not working.

Now in the above code when i remove
="+[Year]+"
from the last and put the year as
2001,2002 or any..It use to give me the result.It opens up the reprot with the year showing 2001 or 2002 etc.
Please help me in the code to pass the value that i select in the graph of a dashboard.

If you are going to a WebI document, I think you should be using the OpenDocument feature. Are you familiar with OpenDocument? If not, it is described in be_xi_r2_opendocument.pdf

Add Comment to Xcelsius Dashboard and Webi Intelligence Report

I created a Web Intelligence report based on that report using Live Office I am creating Dashboards in Xcelsius.
The Business Request is that each day when the report is refreshed/scheduled at 2:00 am, next morning the BA looks at the report checks the data and add some comments.
These comments should be availble/ displayed on the dashboard.
Where should the BA add the comments and how can I bring it in report and dashboard
I have tried few things nothng is working. any suggestions .

I forgot to mention 1 important thing.
If the user wants to run a dashboard or report (WITH HISTORICAL DATE) the comments should be displayed for that particular historical date.

I am on BI 4.0 Sp6 and would like to create a BO Dashboard based on Webi Instance. What is the best approach to do the same.
1. I want the BO Dashboard data to be visible on Ipad ( hence no data source connections)
2. In case of live office , how does the refresh mechanism work
3. Does add on tools like XWIS help in mitigating the issue

If you are using LO connection, then its not mobile supported connections & struggled a lot to make it stabilize. but still its a good connection to view the data in dashboard design time.

In case of live office , how does the refresh mechanism work
Refresh can be done webi side by scheduling the report in repository or you can keep a refresh button in dashboard to refresh the data. I hope automatic refresh is not possible here.

Add Xcelsius Dashboard to Web Dynpro via Flex Wrapper

Hello all,
I'm trying to get my application, similar described in [https://websmp105.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700001894392008E.pdf].
When running the app in Flex Builder 3 i got the following error in firefox(i guess flashplayer debugger?!)
SecurityError: Error #2047: Verletzung der Sicherheits-Sandbox: parent: file u2026bin-release/xyz.swf kann nicht auf file u2026bin-debug/xyz.swf zugreifen.
     at flash.display::DisplayObject/get parent()
     at mx.managers::SystemManager/executeCallbacks()
     at mx.managers::SystemManager/docFrameHandler()
Help: Because the description of the error is in German, I'll try to translate: file xyz.swf cannot access file xyz.swf!
(xyz.swf) is both times in the same folder, so I suggest, that would be the same file... But where can I change that? And where in Flex Builder do i have to add my swf exportet from Xcelsius? Any help available?

I found that documentation before, but my Slider is embedded in an Xcelsius-Dashboard. I tried to get the event-handling working, but only in VC, and not in Web Dynpro4J.
I use the GenericXcelsiusWrapper.swf as Wrapper for the Xcelsius Dashboard, and I can write data in the Flash Island and display it, but after a change in WD the changed value will not be displayed in the TextView.
Do I have to handle an GAC-Event-Property, and if yes, which name should I use?
Hope, anyone has experience with that or has a document, because I didn't find any, and can help.

Dashboards with Webi Live office Objects issues

Hi All,
I have created a dashboard (Dashboards 4.1 SP4) connecting to webi crosstab tables which in turn sources data from Bex queries (version of SAP BW 7.1 SP5) . Initially I published the crosstab data as BI web Services and consumed these as query as web service within the Dashboards. But datasets have variable columns and changes on data refresh everyday. Therefore, I decided to use Live office connections to automate the dashboard.
As number of posts suggested, firstly, I created Live office connections for the webi queries to pull the data into excel model spreadsheet. I have created 26 live office connections in total and everything works fine until this step. Re-opening the excel document refreshes the live office connections. When I import the same excel spreadsheet into the dashboard, the import operation is running forever and then Dashboards stops responding. I would have to close the Dashboard using task manager.
To test, I tried creating the live office objects within the dashboard spreadsheet and it creates the connections fine. I do not create the live office connections through Data -->Connections--> Live office connections. I go ahead and publish the dashboard onto the portal and it gets published successfully. If I re-open the dashboard, the connections I created would have disappeared.
Also,when I create the live office connections on the dashboards Data -->Connections tab and try to publish the dashboard, it publishes forever. The generating swf window was running until I came the next morning which means that it does not publish to the BO portal. I am not sure what else I could try to get this working.
I have created OLAP connections to the Bex cubes and created webi reports using these connections. I am not sure if OLAP connections would be a problem. To test it, I created relational Universe using UDT tool and created a webi report on top of it to test and tried importing the excel with live office connection to dashboards, but it gets stuck forever.
Could anyone advise me on any of the missing steps or something else to try to get this working?

The excel takes less than a minute to refresh all the datasets when refreshed from outside dashboards. I also do not think this is a performance issue.
Today I tried importing the excel with live office connections on a different desktop with Dashboards 4.1 SP5 and it got imported instantly. The machine I was trying had Dashboards 4.0 SP6 base version and was updated with 4.1 SP4. I suspected the install might be corrupted and re-installed Dashboards 4.1 SP4 after uninstalling all the versions. The excel got imported instantly and I could see all the Live office connections and got refreshed on document open as well. I saved it to the BO platform without setting up Live Office connections through Data Manager and it got published successfully.
I closed the Dashboard and re-opened it later and setup the Live Office connections and tried publishing on the BO Portal, its running forever with Generating Swf window. Not sure what is going wrong. In the task manager, I do see two excel processes running which I think is one of dashboard and one of Live office.

Have you tried using an opendoc call to bring up the SWF?

You would also need to establish the session with BOE first, in order to pass the CELogonToken.

Integration from dashboard to WebI report in BI 4.0

Hi All,
I have migrated dashboards(created in Xcelsius 2008 SP3), reports (created in BOXI 3.1), and corporate dashboards(Created in BOXI 3.1 environment) to SAP BI 4.0 environment. The dashboards and reports are working fine when they are not integrated with each other. The corporate dashboards(BI Workspaces in BI 4.0) contains a dashboard and a report. According to the selections in the dashboard, the report should be triggered with the parameters passed from the dashboard. But when I migrated, the BI workspaces are not passing the parameter from the dashboard to report. I had verified the parameter passing and Content linking.
Since I am new to SAP BI 4.0, I am not aware of the problems may happen in the migration of Corporate dashboards from BOXI 3.1 to BI 4.0. So can anyone please help me to solve this issue?

I have never worked with FS commands. But i doubt some restrictions are there for FS commands in adobe flash 9 and above. Please confirm it by referring the topic 8.2.3 FS command restrictions in the Dashboard and presentation design user guide. see the link below.

Dashboard Builder - WebI not display

Hi Experts,
I have load WebI documents and Univeres to BO Edge platform. When viewing WebI in the document list all works fine.
Now I want use WebI in DashboardBuilder. But only the frame of the WebI document is displayed and the data load and load.
So I connect the Universe directly to analyse items. In Firexfox nothing displays. In IE I get the failure that the dataprovider dont generate.
I think the data connection dont works correct. But why I get data when I show a normal WebI document? Any ideas?

How to get webi data into dashboard for non-users of webi.

I need to find a way to get data from a WebIntelligence Report (essentially 3 numbers: Average This Year, Average Last Year and Target This Year (eg, 40, 63, 55)) into a dashboard, where the data is refreshed each day. The resulting dashboard will be published on my external web site where anyone can access it. It is essential that a connection to the webi server is not required, so I can publish the report data to a text file on a network drive and pick it up from there. The data will change daily so this must be reflected in the dashboard.
Webi has no capability of saving to XML, so it's excel, text, csv archive or PDF only.
I have been playing with the "From Text" option in the Data tab, but changes to the data do not show when the .swf file is run. When in dashboard mode, I can click on preview to show the dashboard and the data doesn't change, however when I exit preview, the data is updated in the spreadsheet of the dashboard. It is just never reflected when the dashboard is displayed. I have dicked the refresh ever 1 minute, refresh data when opening the file, overwrite existing cells options in the External Data Range Properties page for the From Text option and am looking at the data via both a Grid object and an Spreadsheet object.
Could anyone please suggest what I am doing wrong, or anything else I may be able to try instead.
