Dashed lines in windows
I am occasionally getting odd display artifacts in the application windows. The artifacts typically show up as pink dashed lines. I can scroll the lines out of the displayed pane but they are still there when I scroll back.
Any ideas? Are they an indication of impending failure? My G5 iMac is a Rev. 2 (Ambient Light Sensor) that falls into the last set of serial numbers listed under the extended warranty for the logic board/power supply issues.
Thanks
Arne
I ran the TechTool Deluxe application that came with my Apple Care. The RAM test failed. Everything else passed including the video RAM. The Tool then provided a troubleshooting check list I will perform tonight. I will have to boot off of another disc and run the tests again. If I dig out the restore disc for this process, I can also check out the hardware diagnostics.
At least I have my Home directory backed up. It only took a couple of tries. The iMac locked up overnight because the OS crashed. The fans were on full blast and the power light was on steadily. I was able to shut the computer down with the power button since the computer was not responding to the keyboard or mouse.
In any case, the artifacts are still there. And, one fan is starting to sound like a model airplane buzzing around. Oh joy.

FM10, Dashed Line Pattern
In the Graphics Toolbar of FM10, when I select "Set Dashed Line Pattern", as soon as I select the dashed line, the window closes down, before I get a chance to click "Select" at the bottom of this window. I am thus unable to select the style of dashed line I want to use. Is this a bug in FM10, or am I making a mistake in the way I try to do this action? When I try to click "Selected Dashed Line Pattern" next to it, nothing opens up.
Kathi,
It sounds to me like a misunderstanding of that little pop-up box. It serves two purposes:
Select the dash style using the Set button, which opens the style selection dialog
Select whether the current graphic object will use a solid line or a dashed line using the upper two buttons
The assumed workflow might be this:
Click Select and select the dash style you plan to use most of the time.
Select any graphic object and click either the Dashed Line or Solid Line buttons.
If you want to change the dash style of an already dashed object, select the object and then use the Select button to open the dash settings window and select a new style.

Illustrator CS2 adds mysterious white dashed line thru my linked Photoshop file
Im using Windows XP, Illustrator & Photoshop CS2, Acrobat 7.0 Professional.
I have an illustrator file with a linked PSD file that has this mysterious thin white dashed line going through the entire image & I have no idea what it's from or how to repair it.
My trouble shooting thus far includes:
- In illustrator - I hide all the layers to see if there was an odd graphic on another layer that was causing the line, nothing. I tried to select the dashed line, not possible. I've created a PDF of the file, and the dashed line is in the PDF too (to verify it wasn't just Illustrator). Oddly in both Acrobat & Illustrator when I zoom in & zoom out, the dashes maintain their on-screen viewing proportions (like the dash spaces recalculate to the same tiny thin dashed line no matter what zoom Im at)
- In Photoshop - I zoomed in until I couldn't zoom no more and there is not the slightest dashed line in the graphic.
Lastly, I have this exact linked setup repeated throughout several different files (basically its the same ad but laid out to different dimensions for each)... and none of the others have this mysterious white dashed line.
here's a screen capture from Acrobat... zoomed into 6400%
argh - can someone help? Thanks!
kristinHi guys (and sorry for the tremendous delayed response).
No the line doesn't print on my local b/w laser printer. However I have seen the lines print in 1 newspaper publications... (this is out of 50 different publications)
Yes, the image is rotated slightly in illustrator, and I always flatten prior to making the PDF (cuz of the transparency/drop shadow).
It's really making me nervous that ALL our ads have these lines appearing during onscreen viewing... Im making a new batch of ads for our campaign & there are more lines than before!
Any tips theories remedies my friends? -

Missing photos -- dashed lines
I recently installed iPhoto 6.
In the default, "organize" view, several pictures have now been replaced by rounded-square outlines in dashed lines. The pic titles are still there, but no pics. Double-clicking to edit these missing photos brings up a blank screen in edit mode.
I'm not even able to delete these squares.
What's up?Select one of the files in the Originals folder and bring up the Info window on it, Command-I. Then under Default Application assign Preview and click on the Change All.. button. If that doesn't help check my posts in this thread.

Hi folks,
I'm trying to increase the length of the individual dash
strokes (i.e. shorten the gaps between the dashes). Does anyone
know how to do this; alternatively, is there a way I can make a
custom dashed line?
cheers

To create a new dashed stroke style:
1. In the Object panel, hold down Alt (Windows) or Option
(Macintosh) as you select a dash from the dash style pop-up menu.
2. To set dash sizes, enter values in any of the On text
boxes in the Dash Editor. To set the space sizes between dashes,
enter values in any of the Off text boxes.
3. Click OK to add a new dash to the dash style pop-up menu
and apply the new dash to any selected paths.
Note: The dash style pop-up menu can display up to 255 dashed
strokes. You cannot remove styles from the menu.
Reading the manual or Help File is sometimes a good idea. The
text above is copied from the latter.

JTree - dashed lines and + and - icons not visible
Hi,
I implemented a TreeCellRenderer for my JTree:
public java.awt.Component getTreeCellRendererComponent(javax.swing.JTree tree, Object value, boolean sel, boolean expanded, boolean leaf, int row, boolean hasFocus)
Object userObject = ((DefaultMutableTreeNode)value).getUserObject();
if (userObject instanceof Struct)
this.setLeafIcon(this.iconStructClosed);
this.setClosedIcon(this.iconStructClosed);
this.setOpenIcon(this.iconStructOpen);
else if (((DefaultMutableTreeNode)value).isRoot())
this.setLeafIcon(iconEmptyClosed);
this.setClosedIcon(iconEmptyClosed);
this.setOpenIcon(iconEmptyOpen);
/*else
this.setLeafIcon(iconDatatypeClosed);
this.setClosedIcon(iconDatatypeClosed);
this.setOpenIcon(iconDatatypeOpen);
return super.getTreeCellRendererComponent(tree, value, sel, expanded, leaf, row, hasFocus);
...the icons of the nodes are displayed correctly, but the dashed lines to visualize the level of a node and the + and - icons for collapsed or not collapsed nodes are not visible. I am using Windows LAF. What's wrong ?Please provide following information also:
1) Are you using the default images?
2) What is the Image URI?
3) Snapshot of the Structure window, property inspector window?
4) Are you using any switcher? -
Vertical dashed lines and bad shading on Satellite P30-109
Hi
Sorry for my bad English,
I have a TFT problem on my Satellite P30-109.
Regular vertical dashed lines and bad shading.
I have formatted the hard-disk with the recover-disk but nothing changed.
An irregular visualization is present while windows is starting.
What can it be?
Have you any suggestion? I have to discard my PC?
Thanks for your help.
StefanoCan you connect your Laptop to an external screen?
If the lines will appear there too, then it might be a broken Graphics card.
If there are no lines on your externel screen, then your TFT screen might need replacement.
Either way, it'll need service from a Toshiba service center.
Is it more like this: http://www.laptoprepairguy.com/wp-images/reddish-screen.jpg
or like this? http://www.laptoprepairguy.com/wp-images/laptop-screen-vertical-lines.jpg

Problem with dashed line spacing when printing to pdf
Hi all,
this may be a problem with my pdf program (I use bluebeam), but maybe someone will have an idea how to fix it whether in indesign or bluebeam.
so I made a dashed line using the stroke command in indesign. I need to have the spacing set to 3pt dash and 2pt space. I also need to keep the lineweight to 0.5...this all works fine and appears correctly in indesign when I preview
the problem is that some of the dashed lines, but not all of them, change size and spacing in the pdf when I view it. it seems to change when I zoom in and out as well. I thought maybe this was just some odd feature with bluebeam and it would still print to the correct size, but it does not, it prints the lines as different sizes. does anyone have an idea why this happens and how to fix? ive viewed and printed from adobe reader and it seems to be okay there but this file will be accessed by multiple other people and they may not be opening and printing in adobe reader..
thanks guysWhen you export a PDF you will notice that you are exporting to Adobe PDF. Using any reader beyond Acrobat Pro or Reader is a crapshoot.
For issues with Bluebeam I suggest you contact the developer. -

Hi all, Is there a way to make the end caps of an imported
dashed line (say from Illustrator or Canvas) straight? They seem to
always come out round.
I have tried making them straight lines instead of dashed
both before and after importing them to Flash but the end caps
still come out rounded. Flash does not let me change the end caps
of dashed lines at all. So even if I set it correctly when it's
still a straight line, as soon as I turn it into a dashed line, it
turns round and I can't change it.
Very frustrating.
Thanks for your help,
AryehSeems like an oversight from Adobe to me. Submit a bug report
at the following address, and maybe they will add that
functionality.

I suspect the answer is simpler than I expect, but it has been eluding me none the less, so I've been wondering how to draw a continuous dashed line, as per the title. I'm cleaning up a photo I made a while back and would to create a flowing line and set it to be dashed as you can do in Adobe Illustrator, where you could draw a line and edit the line type to be dashed, or dotted, or a bunch of snowflakes or what have you.
I can hear you asking, "why not just use Illustrator?". Well, I do not have it. I used Illustrator and Photoshop CS6 in an art class senior year of high school, but it has been a little while so I'm trying to re-learn the ropes a little bit.I was able to use Filter - Other - Minimum with a particular set of parameters, followed by a Median filter to smooth the results, to get something not unlike what you showed, but given that I derived the parameters empirically from your very limited image, at exactly the size given, I wouldn't be surprised if the characteristics of this sequence of operations are way off from what you want.
In any case, if you'd like to see this "proof of concept" action to understand what I did, here it is:
http://Noel.ProDigitalSoftware.com/ForumPosts/BlackFindingAction.zip
Keep in mind this will be VERY sensitive to the thresholds and sizes chosen for the various steps, and is crafted to work at an image with just the resolution you showed above.
